Prior to his death Charlie Kirk wrote a book titled “Stop in the Name of God”. The subtitle to his book is “Why Honoring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life” In this book Mr. Kirk argues that it is more important than ever before to observe the 7th day Sabbath.
Does it really make any difference what day someone goes to church? Mrs. Kirk, Charlie’s wife, stated on Fox News that “you don’t want to make it legalistic”.
Does it make a difference if the Sabbath is THEE 7th day of the week (Saturday), or can the sabbath be just ANY day of the week, Sunday for example?
Charlie Kirk was explicit in his belief that THEE sabbath was the 7th day of the week. Dr. Thiel shows from the pages of the Bible that there is right way and a wrong way to do things. Choosing to observe the 7th day sabbath is an example of the right way.
Where did the 7th day Sabbath come from anyway? Was the Sabbath created? If so, how was it created and Who created it? God created the 7th day sabbath by resting. The Sabbath is God’s rest. We are invited to enter His rest by honoring and observing the 7th day Sabbath.
Dr. Thiel also points out that the Apostles kept the 7th day Sabbath and quotes Hebrews 4, verses 3 through 6 that God proclaims there will be those that SHALL NOT ENTER HIS REST. Then in verse 9 God encourages us to enter His rest while the opportunity still exists.
Watch this video as Dr. Thiel shines the light of Biblical understanding on the truth of the true Sabbath and listen as the word of God encourages us to enter His rest. Don’t wait until the opportunity passes you by.

00:00Greetings friends, this is Steve Dupuy for the Bible News Prophecy program with Dr. Bob Teel,
00:09bringing you news and analysis of world events in light of Bible prophecy. Dr. Teel, prior to his
00:16murder, Charlie Kirk wrote a book titled, Stop in the Name of God. Could you tell us a little
00:22more about that book? Well, it was a subtitle, Why Honoring the Sabbath? Well,
00:30Transform Your Life. And he talked about the biblical day of rest, gives an argument why
00:35people should observe it. His widow, Erica Kirk, was interviewed about it. She said that if Charlie
00:43hadn't done this, he'd be burnt out. And he felt that he needed this particular rest. When asked
00:50how other people can do this, Erica Kirk herself said, you don't have to make it legalistic.
00:57If you're traveling or something, it doesn't have to be a specific day. Just make sure you
01:01carve it in your schedule and prioritize it. And if there's times you feel you can't do it,
01:06you know, start out slow. Eventually, though, you'll do it as a fun thing. Now, the news article
01:13reported about this properly added the following. God's Sabbath, according to scripture, is exclusively
01:18on the seventh day of the week, as the first book of the Bible indicates, Genesis 2, verses 2 to 3.
01:23It's actually the longest commandment, the famous 10 commandments from God, saying, remember the
01:28Sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days you'll labor and do your work, but the seventh is the Sabbath
01:32of the Lord. The Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and he created things, and he hallowed it. So that's
01:40what that article pointed out. And so, yes, we are supposed to stop our routines and then keep the
01:45Sabbath. Well, could you clarify for us, Dr. Teal, is there a Sabbath day, as Mrs. Kirk stated,
01:52which would be any day of the week, or is there the Sabbath day, which is specifically the seventh
01:58day of the week? Well, according to the Bible, the Sabbath day is the day we currently call
02:02Saturday. Now, it's my understanding that Eric or Kirk was raised as a Roman Catholic and only
02:08recently started to read the Bible. The Bible is clear that those who do what God says, stop in the
02:13name of God, rest on the day God declared as holy. Now, twice the book of Proverbs, Proverbs 14, 12,
02:2116, 25, says there's a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. Now,
02:27while Erica Kirk is correct in promoting the idea of the Sabbath rest, she's also been promoting it
02:33the wrong way. Now, some might think, well, what difference does it make? Well, the Bible is clear,
02:381 Corinthians 1, 25, God is wiser than men, and in Isaiah, it says his thoughts are higher than ours.
02:45Now, in the book of Leviticus, chapter 23, it lists the days that God expects his people to stop and
02:51have special worship. He lists the exact days. Now, toward the end of the second century, there was a
02:57Roman bishop named Victor. He insisted on changing the date of Passover, by the way, to Sunday. Yet,
03:03the faithful Bishop Plycrates of Ephesus said, quote, we observed the exact day, neither adding nor
03:10taken away from what the Bible commands. And he said it was also kept by the original apostles,
03:16quote, according to the gospel. That was the right day, which is part of the right way for Christians.
03:23The Bible specifically teaches that there's a right way, and that's taught both in the Old Testament,
03:281 Samuel 12, 23, and the New Testament, 2 Peter 2, 15. Jesus taught to choose the narrow way that few
03:37would find, not the broad way that most would in Matthew 7. The Sabbath is on Saturday, and that's
03:42an example of it. So, did Charlie Kirk also promote a Sabbath day, any day of the week, or did he promote
03:50the Sabbath day, the seventh day of the week? Well, I watched a couple of videos for it, and he said that
03:57he rested from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday, and he called it the Jewish Sabbath. And he asserted that
04:05young people would be less depressed, anxious, and better off if they kept the Sabbath. He said it's
04:09while the least promoter of the Ten Commandments, it's what you should do if you're going to do what
04:14God says, and it's good for your family and your parents and all those kind of things. Charlie Kirk
04:20taught that his life and the lives of others are better off keeping the Sabbath, and his widow,
04:25Erica, would be better off if she properly kept the Sabbath.
04:27It certainly sounds like Charlie Kirk had a deeper understanding of the Sabbath than his wife.
04:34He also mentioned that it was the Jewish Sabbath. So, is the Sabbath primarily a Jewish Sabbath?
04:42No. God made the Sabbath in Genesis 2. That's about 2,000 years before there are any Jews.
04:48And the reality is that Sabbath has been kept by faithful Christians throughout the entire
04:53church age. The New Testament shows that Jesus and the apostles kept it. And I've got, let's see,
05:02how many translations here that I was going to mention? There's something like 20 different
05:06translations of the Bible that tell us that we're supposed to keep the Sabbath. For example, the NIV,
05:15Hebrews 4.9, after talking about the seventh day, said there remains then a Sabbath rest of the people
05:19of God. You can see the same thing in Young's literal translation, Korean literal Bible, the New
05:25Literal Standard Bible, the original Dewey Rhames, the New Jerusalem Bible. So, one reason a lot of
05:35people in the United States don't know it is that the King James, New King James, mistranslated it.
05:41But if you look at the actual Hebrew, the book of Hebrews is clear that the commandment to keep
05:46the seventh-day Sabbath is in the New Testament. It also shows that those who will not observe it
05:51because of their disobedience argue otherwise. And Paul said he didn't want to be disobedient,
05:58so that's why he observed it.
06:00It was about the aspect of the Sabbath that is related to entering God's rest.
06:06Well, the late Pastor General Herbert W. Armstrong wrote about the Sabbath. He says,
06:13what's it mean to rest? He says, God's concerned with two overall aspects of your life on the
06:18Sabbath. First, he wants your time to be free from responsibilities and activities. Second,
06:23he wants your mind free from thinking about the daily responsibilities and activities.
06:27This makes you free to properly worship God on this day. Certainly, physically rest more on the
06:34Sabbath. The main emphasis rests from your normal toil and activities. You should serve God with
06:39your mind on the Sabbath. Those who can't or don't control their minds call the Sabbath bondage.
06:46They eagerly wait for the end of the Sabbath so they can go about their ways and pleasures,
06:51which they've been thinking about all day anyway. If you're able on the Sabbath to get your mind
06:56and thoughts on God's purposes and God's ways, you'll find what a real delight the Sabbath is.
07:02Quote, then you should delight yourself in the Lord, Isaiah 58, 14.
07:05How do you accomplish this? Devote the original, the additional free Sabbath time you have for extra
07:11Bible study, extra prayer, extra meditation. It's one day of the week. You don't have to worry about
07:16getting to the job, making payments, doing your homework, building fences, etc., cleaning house.
07:22So take care of those things during the week.
07:23He says, notice God's instructions on the Sabbath. This is from Isaiah 58.
07:32If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, that is, don't trample on it, for doing your pleasure
07:36on my holy day, and call the Sabbath to delight, the holy day of the Lord, honorable, and you shall
07:41honor him, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasures, nor speaking your own words,
07:46then you shall delight yourself in the Lord.
07:48So your ways means your course of life, your employment, your finances, etc.
07:56You're not supposed to involve yourself in those things on the Sabbath, but during the week.
08:01Your pleasure, forsaking pleasure doesn't mean the Sabbath's a rigorous day of abstinence,
08:07but it was not designed for activities such as hunting, fishing, golfing, movies, boating, television,
08:19and those things, and I'd say in modern times, playing secular video games, that kind of stuff.
08:26And also he said it's not appropriate for time-consuming hobbies like woodworking, stamp collecting, whatever.
08:32And as far as your words, the Bible says in Matthew 12, 34,
08:37in the abundance of your heart, the mouth speaks.
08:41So we're not supposed to do things our way on the Sabbath.
08:45And the Sabbath, he says, begins at sunset.
08:48Of course, it does.
08:52Now, a deceased Church of God writer wrote, and he wrote a lot.
08:58This is back in 1964, published in the old Good News magazine.
09:03It says, rejoice.
09:04Since the Sabbath is God's day, it's the most important day of the week.
09:08It's a day to look forward to, to eagerly anticipate.
09:12A day of joy and rejoicing.
09:13A day of worship and prayer.
09:15A day of rest from the previous six days of the week.
09:19How wonderful, after working hard previous days of the week, sweating, straining, becoming mentally and physically exhausted,
09:26to welcome with open arms the arrival of God's Sabbath.
09:31Only those who've been observing God's Sabbath truly realize what a joyous and fire and blessing it is.
09:38And I want to interject something.
09:39This is not in my notes.
09:40I was in Israel a dozen or so years ago.
09:46And I was talking to somebody who was, I think he was Greek.
09:52And he did not grow up keeping the Sabbath or anything.
09:56He and somebody else that I talked to in Israel, who were not Jews, said to me, you know what?
10:01This Sabbath thing is really a great thing.
10:03These people get together with their families.
10:05And I think this is really, really good.
10:07But, you know, we don't really have that where I come from.
10:10And that's what he was saying.
10:13And, again, he was just a secular person.
10:16And so I was surprised.
10:17I was actually surprised because I didn't think the Jews really kept it that well.
10:22And a lot of them don't keep it that well.
10:23But they do some version of the Sabbath now.
10:27Anyway, getting back to this article.
10:30It says, you know, basic purpose of the Sabbath is to draw close to God on his holy day.
10:36Worship him and think on his thoughts.
10:39Don't neglect fervent, believing prayer or diligent, inspiring Bible study on the Sabbath.
10:45If you do, you'll be missing an entire spiritual benefit and blessing of the day.
10:50How you spend your time on the Sabbath can be vital to your salvation.
10:53And, by the way, it says in Hebrews 5.9, Jesus is the author of eternal salvation to those who obey him.
11:01And in Acts 5.32, it says the Holy Spirit is given to those who obey God.
11:06And one of the things, the way we obey God is by keeping the Sabbath.
11:10Now, the idea that the Sabbath is good for you and families is not something that no one knew about before Charlie Kirk.
11:17But I'm glad he learned about it, too.
11:21Now, I'd like to read something else that the Apostle Paul wrote.
11:25I'm going to read from 1 Timothy 1, starting in verse 5.
11:30Now, the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and from sincere faith.
11:38From which some have strayed, having turned aside to idle talk, desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things that they affirm.
11:53Remember, there are passages in Hebrews 4 about keeping this, and we're not supposed to follow their example of disobedience.
11:59And I think I, you know, I've kind of just went over those scriptures, and I think I'd actually like to read one set of them.
12:09Let's read this from the New Jerusalem Bible, because people know that Roman Catholics do go Sunday.
12:16Hebrews 4, verse 3.
12:19We, however, who have faith are entering the place of rest.
12:22Verse 4, as one text says, referring to the seventh day, God rested on the seventh day after all the work that he'd been doing.
12:34Verse 9.
12:34There still must be, therefore, a seventh day rest reserved for God's people.
12:40It says that exact day.
12:42Since to enter this place of rest is the rest after your work, as God did after his.
12:48Let us then press forward to enter this place of rest, or some of you might copy this example of refusal to believe and be lost.
13:01Now, that is what the Roman Catholic translation of Hebrews 4 teaches.
13:07And a lot of the Protestant translations get it right, too.
13:11Now, some Protestants, by the way, erroneously think the Ten Commandments were done away with.
13:15We have a free book on the Ten Commandments, e-book at ccog.org.
13:21They don't realize two things.
13:23One, the Apostle Paul wrote, the purpose of the commandment is love.
13:27And two, all early Christians believed they needed to keep the Ten Commandments.
13:32Look.
13:36God loves you.
13:38God loves humans.
13:39The reason God gave us the Sabbath was not to see, oh, it's a terrible burden.
13:44Let's see how difficult I can make life for these people.
13:47But no, he knew how our lives were going to be.
13:49He knew that we would be involved in all kinds of stuff and that we needed a rest.
13:54God loves us.
13:56And he gave us the Sabbath for our good.
14:00To keep and understand the seventh-day Sabbath is an opportunity God gave us to spend the whole day with him.
14:07And that sheds a whole new life on the seventh day.
14:11The day would be nice if Erica Kirk thinks that she should keep as well.
14:16Yes.
14:17Thank you, Dr. Thiel.
