00:19The electoral crisis in Honduras deepens as the electoral bodies certify their previously shared results after refusing to count all the tally sheets.
00:32And Israel has announced that it will suspend the operations of dozens of aid organizations working in Gaza within the next hours.
00:43Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Derezu Studios in Havana, Cuba. We'll begin with the news.
01:05The Venezuelan Armed Forces presented a report for the Strategic Operational Command for the year 2025.
01:10The report highlights with evidence and supporting documentation the performance of the Civic-Military-Police fusion guaranteeing security and peace.
01:18The report, which accounts for the forces' commitment inspired by the Bolivarian ideal, details the destruction of clandestine airstrips and the fight against organizations linked to drug trafficking and other criminal enterprises.
01:30The report also accounts for the deployment of troops carried out to guarantee in addition to peace and security.
01:36Democratic exercises such as the electoral processes that have taken place in the country.
01:42It provides a clear and detailed overview that contrasts with the widespread rumors promoted by the United States media,
01:48which formed part of the psychological warfare against the Bolivarian nation.
01:56The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is a territory of peace. Our national territory is impregnable.
02:02And here we are in perfect popular military and police fusion, enshrining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Venezuela.
02:12My commander, Venezuela is expected. Venezuela is a territory of peace.
02:16And in regards to the fight on drugs, the authorities provided updated information on the results achieved so far.
02:22The Bolivarian National Armed Forces seized more than 52,800 kilos of drugs in the western region during the year 2025.
02:30The drug cargoes were intended to be smuggled illegally into Venezuelan territory through the state of Zulia, Falcón and Lara.
02:36The report also indicated that they destroyed approximately 45 camps, 40 logistical structures, 35 laboratories, 17 shipyards, 3 semi-submersibles, 122 outboard motors, 223 firearms and arrested 1,630 people.
03:01And on Tuesday, while touring a special unit of the National Guard in Kotiza, north of Caracas,
03:06Venezuelan defense minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez praised the loyalty and unity of the people and the armed forces in the face of U.S. threats and demoralizing campaigns.
03:15We have shattered the trap of treason. On the 28th, President Nicolás Maduro told us that loyalty is put to test in these circumstances.
03:26While imperialism wanted to divide us, demoralize us, and bury us in the mud of betrayal, we have responded with great unity and cohesion.
03:39When the President of the United States says that these lands are theirs, that they belong to them, that everything that lies here on the ground belongs to them, all the natural resources, the water, the biodiversity, the oil, the gas belong to them,
04:08what he caused was great indignation among the people of Venezuela. Great unity among the people of Venezuela. Great awareness.
04:26And the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry shared on Wednesday an end of year message highlighting the unity of citizens and vowing to continue working for the well-being and sovereignty of the nation.
04:36Through a post shared on social media by Foreign Minister Ivan Hill, the diplomatic body extended its gratitude and hope to all the people who have managed to maintain unity and dignity in the face of adversity and threats of all kinds.
04:50In this context, the Foreign Ministry shared that 2025 leaves us with lessons and strengths that reinforce our ability to resist external pressure and to build, through solidarity and peace, a more just future for all.
05:03In his final remarks, the diplomatic body shares its look towards 2026 with realistic optimism, convinced that the great possibilities that are opening up in dialogue, unity, solidarity, greater popular power and economic development can and must translate into greater benefits for Venezuelan families.
05:22And on Tuesday, representatives from the tourism sector reported that Venezuela expects an increase in inbound tourism during 2026, driven by the expansion of air connectivity and the arrival of international visitors.
05:38The president of the Venezuelan Association of travel and tourism agencies, Vicky Herrera, indicated that next year presents an opportunity to strengthen tourism activity, highlighting the efforts of national airlines to increase their flight offerings to international destinations.
05:55According to the association, the activation of new air routes has made it possible to connect foreign cities with key tourist destinations such as Margarita Island and the Los Roques Archipelago.
06:06In addition, new alliances aimed at diversifying the country's tourism offerings are expected to be formed during the first half of 2026.
06:21And in Colombia, the national government is strengthening military and air control in Catatumbo to contain criminal activities and reduce violence in the region.
06:29Defense Minister Pedro Arnulfo Sanchez announced the strengthening of public force measures in the region,
06:34activating coordinated operations with the Army and the Colombian Air Force.
06:41The deployment includes air reconnaissance, fire support and traffic control.
06:45These measures aim to protect communities and guarantee safety, keeping roads open and without restrictions.
06:51In addition, citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activity through confidential hotlines.
06:56And Brazil's economy reached a historic milestone in November 2025 when it raised an unemployment rate of 5.2%, the lowest figure since official records began in 2012.
07:13In addition, the employed population also reached a new record, achieving an unemployment rate of 59% of the working-age people.
07:20Currently, only 5.6 million people remain unemployed in Brazil, although according to experts, the economy still faces some challenges such as wage increases and the depreciation of the real.
07:31The central bank, led by Gabriel Gallipolo, is evaluating possible rate cuts for the beginning of 2026 and fiscal sustainability continues to be monitored following the recent approval of the national budget.
07:43Meanwhile, thousands of users in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, were affected by power outages.
07:56During the night of Tuesday and the early hours of Wednesday, more than 38,000 customers were without service.
08:01Most of the outages were concentrated in the Edesur concession as a result of the unscheduled failures in the medium voltage network.
08:13Among the most affected areas were Alejandro Corn in the district of San Vicente, where more than 6,000 users were left without power,
08:21and the neighborhood of Almagro, with a similar number of people affected.
08:24Significant outages were also reported in other locations in southern Buenos Aires.
08:29Distribution companies report that repair work is continuing, and that the service will progressively restore over the next hours.

08:59Welcome back. In Honduras, the National Electoral Council falsely certified the results of the general elections after refusing to count all the talent sheets and amid several reports of irregularities.
09:20The declaration confirms the new composition of Congress and municipal governments. However, councillors within the institution itself denounced that the process was plagued by irregularities.
09:30These allegations add to a history of tensions throughout the electoral cycle, including reports of forgery and alteration of official documents.
09:37Following the declaration, Attorney General Joel Zelaya announced that once the results are official, the public ministry will initiate legal actions to uncover the truth of what occurred and ensure that no actions against the popular will go unpunished.
09:50In this context, the Liberty and Reef Foundation party issued a statement categorically rejecting the declaration issued by two members of the National Electoral Council on the election results for president, mayors and deputies.
10:09The political party declared that Jorge Adana won the mayor election, referring to the municipality of the Central District, which includes Tegucigalpa and Comayaguela.
10:20According to the statement, the National Electoral Council is attempting to award the Central District mayoral seat to the national party, despite the fact that there are still 435 ballots that have not been counted, representing the votes of 98,947 voters.
10:34In this scenario, Liberty announced that it would not endorse any spurious declaration at the free electoral levels in what it described as the most fraudulent elections in the history of Honduras.
10:47I want us to listen carefully because this important message is being broadcast through the media to the entire population of the capital.
11:00First, I want to thank all of you, cameras. We won the capital city elections and we are going to defend our victory and demand a full count of the 435 ballots that are missing.
11:12Moreover, the Tegucigalpa mayor assured that on scientific and legal grounds the results presented by the electoral body are not final, the fact that even the councillors themselves admit.
11:27The message is clear. There is no mathematical or legal certainty about the results in the Central District presented by the National Electoral Council.
11:42Today, as stated by the Council themselves, what does that mean? It means that we do not recognize any results until the 435 vote records are counted.
11:57We spent 30 days on the streets, begging, imploring, asking the electoral authorities to count each and every one of those 435 vote records.
12:10We did it, peacefully, democratically, and our voice was not heard. And today we are in the situation we are in. There are 435 records that must be looked after because they are the proof of our victory.
12:34There are 100,000 votes from capital residents that today have not been counted, have not been added to the election results.
12:45Who can celebrate a victory like this, leaving 100,000 votes out of the municipal count? They won't get us out of here unless they count the records and the votes.
12:56In an interview with Telesur, the executive secretary of the Bolivian Workers' Central, Mario Arcoyo, denounced a deep social and economic crisis that is driving workers to extreme measures such as hunger strikes.
13:12I am deeply concerned about the political situation in our country. We face a profound social crisis.
13:24Raising living costs, unemployment, and the loss of purchasing power have pushed the poorest classes into desperation, forcing them into the streets and even hunger strikes.
13:34This reflects the anguish of our comrades, while the government turns a deaf ear. As leaders, it pains us to see workers resort to such extreme measures.
13:52But we believe their revolutionary spirit and love for the country have driven them to this path.
14:09In this context, the Bolivian Labour leader reaffirmed the worker-centric commitment to its grassroots, adding that talks require formal government invitation.
14:19We are organic in that sense. Our commitment is with our grassroots. Sometimes they reduce everything to the Bolivian Workers' Central or to myself.
14:33But we are only spokespeople for our social organizations, which are mobilized right now.
14:38We must also clarify that we will only inform and attend if there is a formal invitation from the central government to engage in dialogue.
14:48And on Tuesday, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights granted precautionary measures to 26 disappeared persons in Ecuador.
14:58The 26 reported individuals were detained by members of the armed forces in various operations in 2024, and to this day, the whereabouts remain unknown.
15:07In this scenario, the Inter-American Court also demanded that President Daniel Noboa's government clarify the forced disappearances and the harassment of military forces against women who searched for the disappeared relatives.
15:18The Regional Court decided to extend precautionary measures to six women, mostly mothers, daughters or sisters of the disappeared.
15:25Under the so-called armed conflict decreed by President Noboa, state agencies, in addition to denying information about these cases, have been reported for intimidating and threatening those who seek information about their relatives.
15:38Mexican authorities have declared a state of high alert in response to the forecast of extreme cold for Wednesday, December 34th.
16:01The Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection issued an alert in Tlapan District, where temperatures are expected to drop to minus two degrees Celsius and severe frost is forecast.
16:12The emergency in the capital of Mexico extends with an orange alert for Álvaro, Obregón, Guajimalpa, La Magdalena, Contreras, among other cities, with minimums between one and three degrees Celsius.
16:23For this part, a yellow alert is in effect in the rest of the cities, including areas such as Ixtapalapa, with temperatures between four and six degrees Celsius.
16:31Given this scenario, critical alerts have been issued to the population, such as taking extra care of children and elderly adults and sealing cold air leaks in homes.

17:26Welcome back.
17:27Israel has announced that it will suspend the operations of dozens of aid organizations working in Gaza within the next hours.
17:33According to the Israeli government, the decision is due to these organizations' failure to meet stringent new requirements to hand over personal details of Palestinian and international staff deployed in a devastated territory.
17:45The list of groups affected by the ban includes some of the world's best non-humanitarian organizations, such as Action Aid, the International Rescue Committee, and Médecins Sans Frontières.
17:54The announcement by the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs comes amid fierce storms that in recent days have destroyed thousands of tents in Gaza, exacerbating an already acute humanitarian crisis.
18:06In this context, the foreign minister of 10 nations expressed serious concerns about a renewed deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the devastated territory, describing the situation as catastrophic.
18:22The ministers of Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, among others, called on the United Nations and its partners to continue their work in Gaza and urged the lifting of what they describe as unreasonable Israeli restrictions.
18:34They also called for the opening of border crossings to increase the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, noting that corridors for moving goods remain closed or severely restricted for humanitarian assistance, including Rafa, the largest entry point leading directly to Egypt.
18:50It is important to highlight that under the 20-point agreement that allowed a fragile ceasefire to come into effect in October, Israel is obliged to allow full aid to be immediately sent into Gaza.
19:04Mali and Burkina Faso have announced plans to ban the entry of U.S. citizens into their territories in response to a similar measure by Washington.
19:13The announcements made on Tuesday in separate statements by the foreign ministers of the two West African countries marked the latest twist in the relationship between West African governments and the U.S.
19:23The move follows the principle of reciprocity after the United States included both nations on its travel restrictions list on December 16.
19:30This decision further intensifies tensions between the White House and the military-led governments in the West African region.
19:36In Russia, the head of the Air Defense Troops of the Aerospace Forces, Mayor General Alexander Romanenkov, revealed that the recent drone attack on an official resident of President Biden Putin was launched from the Ukrainian provinces of Sumy.
19:37In Russia, the head of the Air Defense Troops of the Aerospace Forces, Mayor General Alexander Romanenkov, revealed that the recent drone attack on an official resident of President Biden Putin was launched from the Ukrainian provinces of Sumy and Chernigov.
19:42In total, 91 drones were used in an attack that was directed from several directions towards the presidential election.
19:49In Russia, the head of the Air Defense Troops of the Aerospace Forces, Mayor General Alexander Romanenkov, revealed that the recent drone attack on an official resident of President Biden Putin was launched from the Ukrainian provinces of Sumy and Chernigov.
20:07In total, 91 drones were used in an attack that was directed from several directions towards the presidential residence in the province of Novgorod.
20:14Despite the Ukrainian deployment, Russian air defense systems managed to neutralize the threat without causing casualties or damage in the area.
20:22The offensive was described by the Russian military high command as a deliberate and carefully planned act by the Kiev regime.
20:29In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the incident as an obstacle to peace efforts amid negotiations between Russia and the United States.
20:37The strike structure, the number of air attack assets deployed, and their action from the south, southeast, and west directed toward the Russian president residents in the Novgorod region, clearly confirmed that the Kiev regime's terrorist attack was targeted, carefully planned and multi-layered.
21:02As a result of repelling the terrorist attack by the Kiev regime, there was no casualties or damage on the territory of the Russian Federation.
21:12There was no damage to the arresting of the president of the Russian Federation.
21:16And as part of a recent ceasefire agreement, the Thai government on Wednesday released 18 Cambodian soldiers held captive for five months.
21:30The repatriation ceremony took place on the border between the Thai province of Shantaburi and the Cambodian province of Pailin.
21:36The move seeks to enter a crisis that has claimed nearly 100 lives this year and has placed 700,000 people.
21:44The contact between these nations centers on territorial disputes dating back to the colonial era or the sovereignty of ancient temples and civic agricultural areas that both countries consider symbols of national identity.
22:00Despite mutual accusations of violating previous agreements, the release of the soldiers removed one of the major obstacles due to the pursuit of a diplomatic solution.
