00:00Trade unions and workers' organizations around the world show their solidarity with the Panamanian Trade Union's movement in general's strike against Molino's government.
00:22The National Congress of Honduras approved the electoral budget that will guarantee the elections on November 30th.
00:30And Israel has continued to pound Gaza, killing close to 100 people in the last 24 hours across the coastal enclave.
00:43Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Eteresús Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:48We're making it with the news. Stay with us.
01:00Trade unions and workers' organizations around the world have shown their solidarity with the Panamanian Trade Union movement, denouncing the government of José Raúl Molino's violent response to legitimate demands of the Panamanian working class.
01:14Organizations from Indonesia, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and Brazil, as well as the International Labour Organization itself have expressed their support for the leadership of Panama's National Union of Construction and Similar Workers, SunTracks, in light of the national government's violent attack on them.
01:30Several representatives have gathered outside Panamanian embassies around the world to voice their concerns about the situation in Panama and remind the government that the right to peaceful protest must be upheld.
01:43In Colombia, President Gustavo Petro denounced plans to undermine his government and announced that he would call for a referendum by decree.
01:55The President asserted that there is a legal attack promoted by far-right-wing sectors in alliance with the United States to hinder his government.
02:03The head of state took the opportunity of his speech to defend his decision to call a popular consultation by decree, a mechanism that, as he explained, seeks to strengthen citizen participation in the midst of what he described as an onslaught of the elites against his political project.
02:18In this regard, he detailed that the Constitutional Court will be in charge of deciding on the realization of the referendum, assuring that the judicial entity must guarantee that the will of the people is expressed.
02:29The pension reform depends on the Constitutional Court at this moment as a law of the Republic approved by the Congress of Colombia.
02:43The Constitutional Court will have in its hands the other judicial instance, if not the institutional court, the decree of call for popular consultation that I will make this week.
02:52I know that everything will fall on me and I know that I will accelerate the threats against me, but the people must express themselves because they are the owners of the political power in Colombia.
03:10In Colombia there is no other owner and what Senator Cepeda did was a VAGABO and the AGE in the people and his vote is illegitimate because he never put the Senate of the Republic to discuss the favorable or unfavorable concept of the popular consultation.
03:28In this sense, President Gustavo Petro detailed that the country is on the verge of a neo-slavery according to what was determined by the Senate's commission.
03:37How is it that there was a concept of social rule of law ordered by the constituent constitution of 1991 and the people of Colombia?
03:49Then we are on the verge of neo-slavery according to what was approved by the fourth commission of the Senate.
03:54There is only one reason the constitution of Colombia was co-opted and transformed de facto by a political and economic class that does not know about social rule of law that does not know about equality that does not know about freedom that does not know.
04:09About what it island a universal right the right to work and job stability says the constituent is a universal right for all Colombians the right to education is a universal right not for elites who if they can pay have education no or not and have excluded millions of young people in Colombia because they have nothing to pay and condemn them to these mafias of which I have spoken.
04:38The right to a pension is a universal right not a privilege of those who can contribute or are not.
04:45In other topics on Tuesday night the National Congress of Honduras approved the 12 articles of the electoral budget that will guarantee the elections of November 30th.
04:58During the session 1,737 million lemprias just over 62,000 euros were approved with 105 votes in favor out of the 106 congressmen present.
05:10In addition to approving the budget for the electoral process permission was granted for transfers to be made to the political parties.
05:17The liberal bench abstained from validating the vote arguing that it was illegal.
05:22However the free party clarified that according to the legislation if a principal deputy is not present their position may be occupied by the substitute.
05:29In Honduras heavy rains affecting much of the western part of the country have left at least one dead and over 2,000 affected.
05:52The victim is a 22-year-old identified as Orlin Josue Herrera from the department of Lempira.
05:58Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the death to determine whether a young man jumped into the water was swept away by the current.
06:05In this context it has also been purported that more than 2,277 people have been affected by the severe storm as many communities are currently without power.
06:15The weather forecast warns the rains will continue in the coming days so authorities are calling on citizens to be alert and comply with official instructions.
06:26In Nigeria a series of unprecedented floods have caused several deaths and material damage, specifically in the town of Makwa where more than 200 deaths have been registered.
06:37Let's see more in the following material.
06:42Last week's unprecedented floods in Nigeria caused more than 200 deaths, a death toll that may rise due to hundreds of missing persons.
06:49The town of Makwa was one of the worst affected.
06:52There, the floods destroyed more than 250 houses and devastated the village.
06:57Hundreds of houses were swept away due to the lack of maintenance of the pipes installed to evacuate the flood water, which were obstructed by debris.
07:10We feel very bad, there is no help coming from anyone, not even the government.
07:14Of the 18 family members we lost, only four bodies were recovered.
07:18The others are still missing, and our husband goes out every day to look for them, but they still have not been found.
07:27The large number of people reported missing several days after the tragedy raises fears that this overflow of the Niger River will cause more deaths than all the floods recorded in 2024 in Nigeria, which left 321 dead.
07:41We need intervention from the government and other people to help us with shelter, money and other necessities to start a new life because we don't want to live in this same environment again.
07:52Climate change increases extreme events, but in this catastrophe there was also negligence.
07:58Climate change increases extreme events.
08:02Days before the disaster, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency warned of the risk of flooding between Wednesday and last Friday, in 15 of Nigeria's 36 states, including Niger.
08:13In this East African country, floods wreak havoc every year.
08:20Poor drainage infrastructure, the construction of houses on watercourses and the dumping of garbage in the sewers cause hundreds of deaths.
08:26We have our first break coming up, remember you can join us on Tik Tok at Telestringlish, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and much more.

08:43Welcome back.
09:02On Tuesday, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel hosted Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohamed Baquer Kalibaf at the Palace of the Revolution in Havana.
09:11During the meeting, Cuban leader welcomed the Iranian official visit and praised the historical importance of relations between the countries.
09:18Diaz-Canel also ratified Cuba's support for the Persian nation's right to its nuclear capabilities.
09:24For his part, the legislative president, who previously visited the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, expressed his gratitude for Cuba's support and recalled the historical friendly ties between Havana and Tehran.
09:36Both rejected the imposition of coercive measures against free nations.
09:39In Ecuador, social movements, political movements and personalities have expressed their rejection of the recent approval of a reform to Article 5 of the Constitution, which eliminates the prohibition to establish foreign military bases in the country.
09:58The reform was approved by 82 votes in the National Assembly, promoted by the government of Daniel Neboa, with the objective of strengthening the fight against insecurity.
10:07One of those who showed rejection was the movement of plurinational unity, Pacha Kuti, from where they reaffirmed that the measure violates national sovereignty.
10:15In a statement, the movement warns that the experience in other countries shows that the presence of foreign military forces has not only failed in the fight against crime, but has also been used to repress social movements.
10:26And Nicaragua highlights the successful network of maternity homes program, a model that saves the lives of mothers and newborns.
10:38Nicaragua has expanded its network to 182 maternity homes between 2007 and 2025, a national strategy promoted by the Sandinistic government to guarantee timely medical care for pregnant women, especially in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
11:06Those that have not arrived at the medical post are detected and brought to the mother's house, which is where we are.
11:18Once she comes here, we dedicate ourselves to attending to her health so that she receives, for example, the tests that need to be completed.
11:27All the women who stay at the maternity homes come referred from the community, either for some risk or just to wait for her delivery.
11:35What is the purpose of this? For her to have a safe delivery.
11:42In these centers, pregnant women receive lodging, medical follow-up and wait for their delivery either natural or cesarean, according to specialized indications.
11:55In addition, they participate in handicraft workshops that enable them to generate income through entrepreneurship after their recovery.
12:03At the present time, I am 39 weeks pregnant and I am expecting a normal delivery because my first baby was a normal delivery.
12:14At home, we don't have the facility to know how our baby's heart is or the position if it is cephalic and being here we do know.
12:21It is like a home for all of us pregnant women because here we all live together.
12:27They have brought us talks on motherhood, they have brought us activities on how to make pinata, how to undertake further on makeup and all that.
12:42My experience in this maternal home full of hope for life because they are giving me the real care for my baby, especially because I am a pregnant woman at risk because of my high blood pressure.
12:54The maternity homes also offer recreational spaces to reduce stress and promote a healthy pregnancy.
13:07As part of the program, the kangaroo family method is implemented for low birth weight newborns, which consists of skin-to-skin contact with the mother or a family member for 24 hours, this improving neonatal survival.
13:32And with the mother's warmth, this bond is strengthened and we effectively save lives.
13:39They took it out of me because I had no fluid due to preeclampsia at seven and a half months.
13:53The doctors told me that I had to stay here until the baby weighed more and now by almost five pounds.
14:03The children have been more and now by almost five pounds.
14:09According to data from the co-president of Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, with the government neoliberal in the year 2006, there were 20 children's maternal homes and 29 children's homes.
14:20The children have been more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more than six months.

15:45Tariffs en steel and aluminum imported into the United States, which were said at 25%
15:49would increase to 50% as of this Wednesday following the entry into force of President
15:54Donald Trump's decree. The measure signed this Tuesday at the White House became effective
15:58at midnight Washington time. Although the government's decision is still under review by the U.S.
16:03courts, once again the executive overruled the judiciary with President Trump assuring that
16:07the measure is intended to safeguard the country's security. This decision has taken place in a very
16:12tense context of negotiations with several countries with a deadline of July 9th where
16:17the United Kingdom is the only exception and maintains the levy at 25% subject to further revision.

17:09Welcome back. Israel has continued to pound Gaza killing close to 100 people in the last 24 hours
17:21across the coastal enclave. Palestinians mourn over the bodies of their relatives at the Nasser
17:25hospital in Han Junis after they were killed in an Israeli drone strike and attend for displaced
17:30people near the Al Hanawi school in the south of the enclave. Also Gaza's health ministry accused
17:35Israeli forces of striking a hospital building in the Al Bala saying they hit the roof of an
17:40administration building at Al Aqsa Martyrs hospital. In all, at least 95 Palestinians have been killed
17:47and 440 injured in Israeli attacks across Gaza in the past 24 hours.
17:57In this context, the Israeli army warned Gaza residents not to travel in areas leading to aid
18:02distribution centers after leveling them as combat zones and shooting to death 27 Palestinians.
18:07An Israeli military spokesman stated on Tuesday that the roads leading to the distribution centers
18:12set up by the Gaza humanitarian foundation were considered combat areas. In this context,
18:18in a message posted on social media, the GHF announced that its distribution points would remain
18:22closed on Wednesday for upgrading organizational and efficiency improvement work. The organization also
18:28said that it was discussing with the Israeli army the possibility of reinforcing security measures
18:32beyond the immediate perimeter of GHF centers. And as attacks continue on Gaza, TELESUR English brings
18:43you the latest in the region through its socials as well. Let's see.

19:37Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has pledged that Iran will not abandon its
19:59Iranian enrichment, rejecting a key demand in a United States proposal.
20:03The comments came in a speech delivered on Wednesday as the U.S. and Iran continued to negotiate
20:07the details of a possible nuclear deal.
20:10The issue of uranium enrichment has remained a sticking point in the talks, with the U.S.
20:14reportedly demanding a total halt for low-level enrichment in exchange for the lifting of
20:18Western sanctions against Iran.
20:19In this context, the Supreme Leader stated that the U.S. proposal contradicts its nation's
20:24belief in self-sufficiency and added that the issue of uranium enrichment remains key to
20:28Iran's quest for energy independence.
20:33The proposal put forward by the United States is 100 percent against our motto of WE CAN.
20:47The impolite and insolent United States leaders keep repeating this demand to dismantle the
20:53Iranian nuclear program with different wordings.
20:56South Korea's new President Lee Jae-myun nominated veteran lawmaker Kim Min-suk as his first Prime
21:06Minister.
21:07Kim, a senior member of the Democratic Party and a close ally of President Lee, is known
21:11for his extensive place-led ifan policy experience.
21:14The nomination announced during Lee's first official briefing requires approval from the National
21:18Assembly.
21:19The Democratic Party holds a majority.
21:21President Lee also named several other key officials, including Lee Yeon-suk as intelligence
21:26chief and Kan Hun-sik as chief of staff, signaling a focus on experience and political unity in
21:31his new administration.
21:33President Lee, I am the president of the United States.
21:40Together with individuals who possess loyalty and responsibility toward the people, as well
21:46as competence, we are embarking on a new beginning for a government by the people.
21:51Firstly, I nominate lawmaker Kim Min-suk as the candidate for Prime Minister position.
22:03I judged him to be the right person to tackle the task of overcoming crises we face and reviving
22:10people's livelihoods.
22:11I believe Kim will be the starting point for an era of unity under the new government, while
22:16playing the role of a moderator who bridges the gap between the cabinet, people and parliament.
22:23I believe we have come to the end of this news brief.
