00:00The Arizona people continues the massive enlistment in the Bolivarian militias to defend its sovereignty amid U.S. threats.
00:19More than a hundred cities around the world are holding a day of solidarity with Venezuela and Latin America and the Caribbean amid the ongoing U.S. aggression in the region.
00:30And in Palestine, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen, with the death toll now exceeding 63,000 since the conflict began on October 7, 2023.
00:49Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Dele Sus Studios in Havana, Cuba. We'll begin with the news.
01:00The Venezuelan people went to the streets again on Saturday throughout the national territory to participate in the fourth day of military enlistment called by President Nicolas Maduro as part of the plan for sovereignty and peaceful defense of the country.
01:19The Bolivarian militia has once again set up more than a thousand points in the main squares and other emblematic spaces of the nation, accompanied by regional leaders, military authorities and community organizations.
01:30The activity is being held under the slogan, Venezuela is not a threat, it is a hope to express a firm rejection of foreign threats and U.S.-driven destabilization attempts.
01:39The country's combat forces joined this new day of military enlistment, reaffirming their commitment to peace, security and the well-being of the country.
01:48Let's go now live with our correspondent Amarero for more details on what is happening on the ground.
02:00Hello guys, we are still here in the Bolivar Square and we've been here all day seeing people support in a government enlisting themselves to fight for the dignity of Venezuela.
02:25Venezuela, we can see there are still people here silent, not only young people, but elder people.
02:34Here are the militias of women who are fighting for the sovereignty of Venezuela.
02:42They are here supporting the government of Nicolas Maduro and also defending the right of the well-being,
02:52people living because this is what Venezuela deserves.
02:56We are here watching the people who are enlisting.
03:01Here are coming more elder people because they are the most have seen in Venezuela through the years and are the ones that are enlisting first because they know what had been live before and they don't want it to repeat.
03:20And that's the reason why they are enlisting.
03:23And as we can see, we are here in the Bolivar Square.
03:28We will keep informing and we will send more information as soon as we have.
03:34Soon we have the people here still enlisting and that's all the information by now.
03:41So we'll be right back to the studios.
03:46Thank you, Ana, for this information and we're going to stay tuned for everything that is happening in these Bolivar squares or across the country.
03:52Let's continue with other topics.
03:54In this context, representatives from the Swapo Youth League in Namibia expressed their solidarity with Venezuela through the following statement.
04:02District Secretary Justin Iumpumbu expressed that in Venezuela she witnessed not a threat to international peace and security but a nation determined to short its own course free from external interference.
04:16People rich in culture and history who, like us, have fought long and hard for their right to self-determination.
04:23Venezuela is not a threat. It is a country exercising its sovereign right to self-governance just as we have done in Namibia.
04:30The accusations leveled against Venezuela are not grounded in truth or rather in a geopolitical agenda that seeks to destabilize and undermine the legitimate will of the Venezuelan people.
04:40And around 40 social organizations gathered in Brazil's capital Saturday to demand the government's support amid the U.S. military threat against the Bolivarian nation and to reaffirm Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace.
04:57The Brazilian landless rural workers movement has always supported the Bolivarian revolution since Hugo Chavez took the lead.
05:08For 22 years, the movement has had an internationalist brigade that contributes to and learns a lot from the Bolivarian revolution.
05:17We are here to show our solidarity with the Venezuelan people who have decided to be sovereign and defend their territory.
05:25That is why the MST says no to Donald Trump's invasion because the Venezuelan people have decided to live in peace and in a sovereign way.
05:36Let's continue with the analysis on the topic.
05:39And for that, we have our next guest, Daria Kirchemanania, political scientist and expert at the Center for International Interaction and Cooperation.
05:47Welcome, Daria, to From the South.
05:50Hello, thank you for having me.
05:52It's a pleasure.
05:53Daria, my first question will be, what is your take on what is happening right now in Venezuela, the support that the people have expressed as this is the fourth day of enlistment,
06:01and people we have seen on the images have come en masse to register to enlist in the Bolivarian national militia and express their complete unity in the face of the U.S. threats?
06:12Well, thank you very much for that question, because actually the reaction of the Venezuelan people that we see is an obvious reaction,
06:19and it's the only one and correct reaction that could be towards the aggressive actions of the United States.
06:27Because, honestly, we know, I think, not only we in Russia, but people all over the world, the analysts all over the world say that the Washington statements about fighting the so-called Cuttle of the Suns are utterly unfounded.
06:40And this is a fabricated and cynical pretext to keep exerting pressure on the government of Nicolas Maduro Morris.
06:50And actually, the ultimate target of the operation, as we think, is the very principle of Venezuelan sovereignty and the Bolivarian project itself.
07:02And, of course, the United States of America, as it already happened several times, they keep doing, they keep sticking to that policy of gunboat policy,
07:16trying to suppress, trying to show and exert pressure to the people of Venezuela and to the region itself.
07:25And the main thing, the main objective of that, one of them, is actually trying to fear the people.
07:32And now, what people should do is actually unite and strive to protect their country.
07:38As you were saying, they were using this excuse of the drug trafficking to exert this pressure.
07:45But we saw the U.N. report saying that only roughly 5 percent of drug that is produced in Colombia goes through Venezuela.
07:53Do you think that the U.S. was expecting this strong reaction from the Venezuelan people against the intimidation threats?
08:00So actually, I think the U.S. should have awaited that reaction.
08:07But the problem is that the United States of America and the new government of Donald Trump, they keep refusing to accept that the world has changed.
08:18They no more have the hegemony over the world, nor do they have the hegemony over the Latin American region in particular.
08:26The thing is, what we saw is a huge pushback, is a huge support from all over the world.
08:33So first of all, I would like to emphasize that the countries of the region, United, took back Venezuela and to condemn the United States of America's actions.
08:42So we saw some declarations of Miguel Diaz from Cuba.
08:48We saw some declarations from Mexico.
08:50And actually, not only that, this is just one part.
08:54This is the regional support that is super important in terms of the current context,
08:58because the region should stay united and choose sovereignty, not subordination to the United States.
09:05And another thing that we see is the international support from powers all over the world.
09:11So these are Russia, these are China, these are Iran and some other countries that strongly condemned the actions of the United States of America
09:19and called them the interference into the internal affairs of Venezuela.
09:23That is the violation of the UN charter basis.
09:28You were referring to the international support, but not only in governments.
09:32We have seen the people as well have taken to the streets all over the world.
09:35As today, people in several countries are holding a day of international solidarity with Venezuela.
09:41And with all this outcry of international solidarity both from governments and the peoples,
09:46what do you think is the role of international organizations at the UN that have remained silent to what is happening?
09:53Well, actually, this is just one of the examples that are typifying that the world is changing.
09:59There were many, I would say, cases when the United Nations states silence in the view of some atrocities,
10:07in the view of some blatant violations of international law.
10:11This is no exception.
10:13However, I would say that this is not just a negative point.
10:16That's also a positive point, because as you have mentioned, it's not only the states, not only the governments,
10:22but also the people all over the world, the population all over the world actually came to support Venezuela
10:28and to launch some declarations of support.
10:32And that's actually a huge and very important signal showing that the world is changing
10:38and some new international organizations should arise that should be taking into account all the interests of all the states.
10:49Thank you very much, Maria, for your time and your input here from the south.
10:53Thank you for having me.
10:55It's our pleasure.
10:57We are going to continue with more topics after this first, first break.

11:06I'll be right back. Stay with us.
11:08Welcome back. The Bolivar Alliance for the Peoples of Aromaricado by TCP inaugurated Saturday a shipping route among its member countries.
11:31The ceremony was held at the Mariel Special Development Zone in Cuba with the arrival of the Venezuelan vessel Manuel Gual,
11:37which carried food and other essential goods to the Caribbean island.
11:40The new route is part of the regional bloc's strategy to promote the economic development of its members as well as their food sovereignty.
11:47It also represents a response to the deployment of U.S. military forces in the Caribbean as well as to Washington's disinformation campaign
11:54to justify its provocative actions against the Bolivarian nation.
12:03And the justice system in Argentina is raiding drug companies and state agencies for the denounced payment of bribes.
12:08Malay's executive is focused on discovering who is responsible for the recordings that target top officials.
12:14Despite being surrounded by one of the most damaging corruption schemes of recent years,
12:18the executive's priority is to find out who recorded Carina Malay, sister of the Head of State and Secretary of Government,
12:24after a new audio links her to the collection of millions of U.S. dollars through overprices at the National Disability Agency.
12:30While the audios implicating members of Malay's party continued to come out,
12:33Prosecutor Franco Picardi and Judge Sebastian Castanello carried out new raids at the agency and the main implicated drugstores.
12:40And on Friday, a U.S. appeals court ruled that most of Donald Trump's new tariffs are illegal
12:52but can stay in effect until October 14th to give time for a Supreme Court appeal.
12:56The split decision from the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C.
13:00addressed the legality of what Trump calls reciprocal tariffs imposed as part of his trade war in April,
13:05as well as a separate set of tariffs imposed in February against China, Canada and Mexico.
13:10The court ruled that the president does have the legal authority to impose narrow sectoral tariffs
13:15like those on steel and aluminum imports, but he far exceeded his power with the global tariffs on imports he first declared in April.
13:22Despite the legality of Trump's actions for having exceeded his powers,
13:26he remains optimistic and assures that he will get away with it in court.
13:31And in Hungary, the Foreign Minister Peter Sijarto assures that the European Union is isolated from world politics.
13:43On Friday, during his speech at the Transit Politico Festival, Sijarto stated that this situation was reached
13:48through a series of bad decisions and dramatic mistakes by the president of the European Commission,
13:53as well as the political elite, who are mostly in favor of the European war.
13:57In this regard, he cited the bloc's failed attempts to sanction Russia under the pretext of ending the conflict with Ukraine.
14:04The Foreign Minister also added that these mistakes have definitely led to Euro-Parisian a point today
14:09where its competitiveness is not even politically decisive on a global level.
14:15We now have our second break coming up before we invite you to join us as we tour Cuba in search of community projects
14:25that work every day for the countries present and future.
14:28The Cuban way from Monday to Friday at 4.30 pm Caracas and Abana time only on Telesur.
14:34We're going to be right back.
15:04Welcome back.
15:09In Palestine, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen with a death toll now exceeding 63,000 since the conflict began on October 7, 2023.
15:19Gaza's health authorities reported that 59 more people were killed and 244 injured in the past 24 hours alone,
15:25bringing the total number of deaths to 63,025, with over 159,000 others wounded since the start of the genocide.
15:33On the other hand, 23 people were killed on Thursday while trying to receive humanitarian aid,
15:38raising the number of aid seekers killed in Gaza to more than 2,200.
15:42The growing hunger crisis also claimed five more lives, including two children,
15:46pushing the number of starvation-related deaths to 322, according to health officials.
15:52After learning on Friday that the United States government would not grant a visa to the Palestinian delegation
16:01to attend the United Nations Summit in September, voices of rejections rise worldwide.
16:06The Palestinian government rejected Washington's decision and demanded to reverse the measure,
16:11as Palestine ratifies that it is an action contrary to international law.
16:15The Organization of Islamic Cooperation also showed deep concern and expressed its rejection of the U.S. decision.
16:21In addition, several Arab countries, such as Jordan, Qatar and Lebanon, rejected the White House conduct,
16:26as well as the governments of Spain and Ireland, while countries like Canada, France, the United Kingdom and Australia
16:31called for an immediate reconsideration of the resolution.
16:34The spokesman for the U.N. Secretary General, Stefan Tujarek, recalled the importance of the presence of all states at the meeting.
16:41And in Spain, three years at the death of Colombian youth Brian Rios in police custody, family members and activists demand justice.
16:59A correspondent, Andres Flores, with more details.
17:06Brian Rios was Colombian and arrived in Spain with his family in search of a better life.
17:11In 2022, he was arrested by the local police in Ruby in the province of Barcelona.
17:17He died in police custody, under circumstances that are still being investigated.
17:24He was arrested on the night of August 20, after attending a family barbecue celebration.
17:30He went out to buy beer. He didn't return.
17:36When we went to look for him, we found that he was being detained by the local police.
17:43At around 11.30 p.m. they took him to the Cap Mutua in Taraza, where they gave him three doses of sedatives.
17:49And 30 minutes later, less than 30 minutes later, they transferred him to the Masostei Squadra police station,
17:55where he died around 4 o'clock a.m.
18:02During these three years, Juliana was accompanied by activists and lawyers.
18:07Together they made progress in the case, although there is still work to be done.
18:12At the beginning of the year, forensic doctors, nurses who were at the CAP, the CAP doctor, and the Masostei Squadra police were called to testify.
18:25From the platform, we are disappointed that the local police, who made the arrest, were never called to testify.
18:33At this point, the doctor is charged with medical negligence and we are waiting for a trial date.
18:38And we are waiting for a trial date.
18:42Both family members and activists emphasize that this is a case of police racism
18:48and insist on the need for justice to be done and that migrant lives matter.
18:53The justice for Brian Rios platform views these cases of police racism with great concern.
19:00And above all, the lack of transparency about what really happened.
19:04Why was Brian Rios arrested?
19:08This racial profiling that we have normalized in the arrest of migrants or racialized people is a real danger to our lives.
19:14Migrant lives are in danger in police custody and if there is no family or support network behind them, these cases go unpunished.
19:21Activists, family members, and friends demand truth, justice, and redress.
19:30André Flores, Telesur, Barcelona.
