Moyes on Everton 2-0 Forest win
Transcript
00:00David must be really pleased with that.
00:26I was hugely pleased. It was some result for us to come here. We were sort of depleted
00:34side and get a result. I thought Nottingham Forest played incredibly well against Man
00:39City. We were unlucky not to get something out of the game. Obviously there was probably
00:44a big need for points as well. It always meant that we would be under pressure. The atmosphere
00:50inside the stadium as well would always play a part here as well. I think great credit
00:55to the players and to the ones who come in who haven't played much football. Big praise
01:00for them. How kind of depleted was it? You didn't really want to include Jack. How tough has
01:08it been? I think we've got eight out at the moment. The two boys are away at AFCON. We
01:14never had a huge squad anyway. Without me going too deep, I think we've got nearly 30% of our
01:19players out at the moment, which is difficult to come to terms with. We won't be able to
01:26continue unless we start to get some of those players back. It will be too difficult for
01:29us because we had two players today on, four bookings, could have got booked and we've been
01:34shot again. It was an all-round brilliant performance by the players what they've done today to come
01:40up against a team who I thought Nottingham Forest played really well, put lots of crosses
01:45in the box, attempted to score, but didn't quite do it because we defended brilliantly
01:51well. I understand there will be some great scenes at the end as well.
01:55Yeah, quite right because we've actually had, I think we've, many is it now away from home?
02:00Nine. Nine calendar year. Nine in the calendar year. You know, this is never an easy place
02:05to come and get results. So I'm incredibly pleased with two away games, which everybody's
02:12had, not just us. So to get a point at Burnley in three today and take four from the two away
02:17games is a good return on two away games in the Premier League. So really pleased with that.
02:22A goal of assist for Jimmy Garland, I mean he was outstanding.
02:25He was. He was fantastic, Jimmy. So I think his goal was terrific. It was a good pass through
02:32by Dwight in the last and he finished it well. But the second goal, he'd done great. He wriggled
02:39out a tight situation. I think it was with Morel possibly. And he made a great pass through
02:44for Tierno. So Jimmy had played terrifically well in the game. He really did. He played so well.
02:49David, with apologies because you will have answered this before, but obviously Jimmy's
02:53out of contract at the end of the season. What's the status with that? Are you quite
02:56relaxed about that situation?
02:57Yeah, I'm quite comfortable, yeah.
02:59And no games or anything happening in January?
03:01Well, I don't know. I'm just saying I feel quite comfortable about the situation, yeah.
03:05Have you seen him develop this season?
03:07I think he's hugely developed as an individual and is a bit of a, I think even when I came
03:14I still saw a bit of a boy. And I think I now see someone who's turning into a really good leader
03:20as well, beginning to take a bit more responsibility and, you know, grow up and beginning to start
03:29to act like a real midfield player and wants to take responsibility, happy to come up against
03:34the best players like he's coming up against a couple of really good players and sort of
03:38Anderson and Gibbswhite, etc. So I thought he looked as good as MD tonight.
03:43David, big away wins have been a theme of your second stint at Everton.
03:48There are quite a few already, but given the circumstances tonight, when does that rank
03:52that must be one of the best players?
03:53Yeah, I think it's one of my best, not my best, personally the team's best, because of what
04:00we had available to us. And sometimes when you go into the games like this, no you're not,
04:04I thought it was going to be a difficult night for us really. And sometimes, you know, those
04:10nights change around, that's what football does to you at times. And, you know, great
04:14credit to the likes of, you know, Pato coming in, Merlin, you know, Tyler's playing sort
04:19of second game right off, and they stuck at it. And we didn't have many changes, so it
04:24meant that most of them were going to have to find themselves playing the best part of
04:2890 minutes.
04:29That felt like he was a performance from Tyler, some of the things he did obviously
04:32could track him back as well, but also he drew a lot of important fouls, like he learned
04:35a little bit from Jack and the element of it.
04:38Yeah, well he should do, he's only young, so he has still earned, and I think the biggest
04:42thing for me, he showed real character to keep going in the games, and he is, he's just
04:47starting, we want him to be a bit more dynamic in what he's doing, we want him to try and
04:51score more and create more. But I think overall, he's ball carrying at different times today,
04:56it was very good.
04:57And in relation to Alcaraz and Keane, obviously both missed out today, do you think Ivan and
05:01Light is trapped before the weekend, or are you looking more concerned?
05:03I'm not giving any details on that just now, I'll see how it goes over the next few days.
05:08And just in relation to, yeah, thank you very much, obviously January opens very shortly,
05:12will you reach a conclusion on Harrison Armstrong, particularly given the nature of the squad
05:17at the moment?
05:18Yeah, yeah, more than likely we'll bring Harrison Armstrong back.
05:21Thank you very much.
05:22Thank you very much.
05:23Any further questions?
05:24Anton?
05:25Yeah, just, obviously, David, as it stands, eighth in the table, but I know you've got
05:28limited resources player-wise at the moment, but it feels like this could be a really special
05:33season if you can get everyone back.
05:35Yeah.
05:36I'm hoping that, you know, the players coming back, you know, and a lot of them don't,
05:39including the AFCON boys, I'm sure the same as what Nottingham Forest have got to do,
05:43or somewhere mid-January, hoping that some injured players can start to be back in those
05:48months with a bit of luck, or in that month with a bit of luck. Look, we want to keep pushing.
05:54We went to Chelsea two or three weeks ago, knowing that if we could beat Chelsea we might
05:59have gone fourth or fifth in the league. I've got a hope that maybe I get a chance somewhere
06:04in February or March, I get an opportunity to do that again. So the only way we can do
06:08that is by hanging in at the moment. But, you know, if we lose today, you could have
06:12been 15th, you win, you could be fifth. So it's really difficult for everybody to sort
06:17of weigh up the league, but I think the most important thing is that the more wins we're
06:21getting, the further we're getting away from the bottom end of the league, that's for sure.
06:25OK, thanks. Cheers, thank you.
06:28Congratulations. Cheers, thank you. Cheers. You too. Have a new year to you all.
06:33Yep.
