00:32Yeah, I'm using the word disappointing again, that we couldn't sort of hang on. Certainly when we went 2-1
00:38up, I felt as if we probably had a chance to maybe get another goal. But hey, I thought the
00:44game in general could have been 3-3, 4-4. I thought both teams had several opportunities.
00:53But just our key finishers for all the season have been the likes of Kieran Dewsbury Hall and Elian Jai.
00:59And they've just both slightly gone off the boil as far as their finishing goes.
01:04Thankfully, Beto, Barry have stepped up in recent games, but I thought today we needed their craft just to get
01:10us the winning, to get us maybe even Elie's chance to make it 3-2.
01:14You know, when Kieran got through, who could have put his 2-0 in front, didn't quite. And that might
01:20have just started taking the steam out of Palace, because I thought in the main Palace, Palace played well.
01:25I thought that we never really, we never played at our best level, certainly not with the ball today. It
01:31was a bit of a scrap from my point of view.
01:33Yeah, and there's still a chance of Europe and everything, but you've got to be taking those chances if you
01:39want to be getting into Europe.
01:40Yeah, I've got to the stage now I'm saying, isn't it great that, you know, imagine talking about Everton being
01:44in Europe after the years I've had recently.
01:46And this time last year we were, I think most of the questions were that, hey, you're going to lose
01:5012 players and you're about to leave Goodison and you're not going to move to a new stadium.
01:55How do you think this is going to be? How is this going to, I mean, really, in truth, we've
02:00not had the word relegation too close to us most of the year.
02:05And I don't necessarily see that as success, but I see it from where Everton have come from.
02:09I see it as being certainly a step up.
02:12And I've enjoyed talking about Europe because it's making the Everton supporters dream again and me hopeful that maybe it
02:19can happen again.
02:20And as you know, I've done it at West Ham, so I was hoping that I could get to a
02:23level where we could try and be competitive again at European level.
02:28It's not gone yet, but it's certainly drifting a wee bit away from us at the moment.
02:39Yeah, we did. I mean, we don't necessarily plan not to play the other parts of the half not well.
02:51I thought we did. I thought the first 10-15 minutes we played quite well.
02:54But I thought that after that, after we got the goal, I thought that we allowed Palace a bit too
02:59much room to play.
03:00To play, you know, we didn't put a great deal of pressure on them.
03:04And we let them grow back into the game, which they did do and deservedly probably got a goal back.
03:10The second half we'd started, we were sort of looking for more from the players.
03:14The second half we got back on it again and I thought, OK, we've done it this time, we'll not
03:18fall into the same trap.
03:19But I think it's more to do with how well Palace can play at times.
03:22I think Palace have got some really talented players and the system they play can, when it works, it can
03:30be very, very good.
03:32And, you know, at times when it doesn't work, it looks pretty bad.
03:34But today, they punished us a little bit with it.
03:38You've got points from a good position in these the last four games.
03:43Yeah.
03:43Do you have to pinpoint what that is?
03:45Is that something at the end of the season?
03:46No.
03:47A side in transition?
03:49No, well, I said earlier, we've probably had five games where we've not really got it.
03:55Good sides have to do the business at this time of the season.
03:57Business is the end of the season.
03:59You know, if you really want to be in it, then you've got to get wins.
04:04And that's why we see the big teams in learning to deal with the pressure of winning the games and
04:11how we can do it.
04:15So, yeah, I don't disagree with that.
04:17The facts are there to show it.
04:19But the facts would also say that we've probably not been able to handle bits of it.
04:23And we have to try and do that better.
04:25But we've not been in this position for a long time.
04:28And that's it.
04:29Whether they get Europe or not, it's increasingly unlikely now.
04:34Just to see it back to you, if the business is in the season, it's that, but we're talking about
04:37a lot of education.
04:38Absolutely.
04:40Yeah.
04:41Got to be careful, you know.
04:41It's, we're trying to, we're trying to do our best to do it.
04:46We've been pushing it and we've sort of, from the start, you've already said, I think it could be just
04:50a bit too much for us.
04:52But for long parts, we've been in and around it, never out the conversation, still not out it yet, really.
04:59So I'm hoping that we can, we can somehow sort of muster something up which might happen.
05:04But if not, we'll have to accept it and move on.
05:11I think, yeah, with the last four games obviously being in front of us, it's been a little bit of
05:16a missed opportunity now that you're not quite, you're not in the mix.
05:21Well, nobody, we don't plan to be a missed opportunity, you know.
05:25If you look at the games, I actually think that we've done okay.
05:27But when I look back and I'm sort of saying, hmm, why did we not step up to do it?
05:32I mean, our away form this season in the main has been really good.
05:35We're only, we do it at Brentford, we've lost at West Ham and we've just come and do it at
05:38Crystal Palace.
05:39So we're disappointed, we feel disappointed that we've not done that.
05:43But if you look at our record away from home, it's been so good, really.
05:47So we're up there with the sort of top teams and the number of games that have won away from
05:51home.
05:54But again, just going back to it, you know, it's a different mentality when you're going to games where you
05:58say, hey, we're actually playing for something.
06:02I think when you're getting relegated, you're actually fighting for your lives in a different way.
06:06This has now us got to show that we can play with confidence and self-belief.
06:13And I think we've tried to install that in the players because they've not been in this situation for a
06:19while.
06:20But there's also little bits where we've just not quite shown the resilience maybe at Everton that we've shown in
06:26this recent period.
06:29Okay, cheers.
