00:22First of all, are you getting your thoughts on the results of the performance?
00:26Well, disappointed with the outcome in the end. Didn't play well in the first half, got much better in the second half. Stuck at it in extra time and went out in penalties.
00:39Did you come to the first 75 minutes or second, but in terms of the way they fought back and got the equaliser and then the depleted squad that you've got to keep someone in the bag and not to match them for half an hour in your extra time, did you take any pride in that?
00:56Oh, hugely in the second half. I thought we didn't do what we wanted to do in the opening part of the game in the first half. We changed it a little bit at half-time to try and get more.
01:11I thought the players showed that, even if it was only just more energy to show the public that we were keen in trying to get through.
01:19I think the players did a great job. We got back in the game through a penalty kick. But really, for us to go on and win, we were struggling to find enough solutions.
01:32Every time we were thinking of a solution, then there was a worry that somebody else could break down and we need to take them off and we were short on those options.
01:40The difficulties in the first half, would you put them down more to the players that you had available? Obviously you're missing so many. In that element of it, would you put down to a failure to deliver your instruction?
01:53I'd say Sunderland are a good team. I think Sunderland have played really well away from home against most sites this season. We knew they would cause us some problems.
02:03They did do, but we'd worked on what we thought we'd do to try and solve it, but it didn't come up. We had to slightly alter it at half-time.
02:14Overall, except for the first half, the players tried their best to get us a result.
02:20What did you make of Adam Asnew's impact? Did that change what you might like to see from the rest of the season? Do you think he could have a role to play with in the Everton squad?
02:30We played him in a different role when we brought him on today. We put him higher up, more as a left winger, on the left and front.
02:37We've got him as a left back. The competition to play in those roles, if you want to take it, are very, very high.
02:42That makes it less likely in some ways, but I was really pleased for Adam. He's a great boy.
02:48He's got bits about him which are ready. Just physically, to be a left back in the Premier League, that's where we're just seeing at the moment where we're needing him to develop.
02:57From a wider perspective, it's been difficult for six days of results. How would you reflect on this week, right now, in terms of where the results lead, in terms of Premier League ambitions?
03:09Well, what I want to do is get back to the levels we've been playing at in recent months and recent weeks. I want to get the players back. But I couldn't say that I'm surprised with the results, with what we were going to have available to us in certain games.
03:28A lot of it's our own doing, so we have to take the responsibility of that. We got players sent off in the last game, so that's our fault.
03:36It's very difficult, you know, if we're picking up injuries and the boys at AFCON was always going to make this a really difficult month.
03:43A 1-1 draw against Sunderland, maybe not the best result, but Sunderland have been doing so well, you know, wherever they've gone, they've made it difficult for teams.
03:55It wasn't, the overall result wasn't so bad. It was just the end part.

04:07What sort of disappointment is there with the nature of the penalties from Beto and Barrio in particular?
04:13It's been a long-running sort of issue with the striking problem this season.
04:18I think, as a manager, do you sort of blame them in any way in that instance, or how do you sort of...?
04:24Nah, but I don't think you blame them when you lose the penalty shootout.
04:28It's something which can happen. The goalkeeper's there to make saves.
04:32But I think there's a way to lose if you're going to do that, and it felt as if we didn't look as if we'd done it in that way.
04:39And I think that's why we've all walked away with huge disappointment, you know.
04:44We've done a great job to get back in the game and get ourselves level with what was available today.
04:50But overall, then, when we get to that point, you're hoping that we go on then, you know, show it, and it was poor.
04:58But I don't want to be sort of, someone has to win a penalty shootout, somebody has to lose it.
05:04But I do think there's a way to win it, and there's a way to lose it.
05:08And I didn't think the way we lost it today was the right way.
05:11That's simply being more emphatic in, you know, yeah.
05:15In the taking it and, you know, and, you know, yeah.

05:23Did it feel like your hands were tired looking at your options on the bench today?
05:29Because Barry was the only senior player who you were attending.
05:33We may have done other things earlier if we had.
05:36But to be fair, the players when they came out of the second half fought themselves back into the game.
05:40And were we going to score a goal?
05:42Not sure, but we were getting closer.
05:44But goal scoring has been the issue, you know, how we're going to score goals.
05:48We're missing really our players who are more liable either to create or score.
05:54Been Kieran and Ellie, Jack today as well, if you were talking about today generally.
06:00So for us to have those sort of creative players in the ones.
06:03And I think Kieran might have been top goalscorer with Ellie.
06:06But actually we've got top goalscorers who are not available.
06:10And it's been shown in recent weeks, really, that we don't look like that.
06:14And we're a little bit stretched in trying to find ways of scoring.
06:19Yeah, make a long pass and obviously pop one off.
06:22Is that just man doing cramping?
06:24They were both cramping up for long before it.
06:27And I tried to keep, I tried not to take them off, in fact.
06:30So that's the truth.
06:31We didn't want to really take them off.
06:33But we knew we'd have to get them through longer
06:35because we were incredibly limited with what we had.

07:15I see what they're capable of.
07:17But sometimes when being given an opportunity
07:20gives you a chance to see them know
07:23young Adam come on and done a great job,
07:25a bit more in a different position than what we got him for.
07:29But he'd done a good job in that way.
07:31Helped us get forward, helped us create.
07:34So, yeah, probably what we see,
07:39what we see is what we know from the players available.
