29/12/2025

Turf Moor, Burnley, UK

00:01Nottingham Forest, earlier this month, one of the three clean sheets in five during the month,
00:06and going further back, five in your last eight.
00:08What's kind of underpinned that really impressive defensive record?
00:12Well, obviously the goalkeeper makes plays a big part in it.
00:14He's a huge influence, but in the main, the two centre-halves have stood up to lots of things.
00:22And to be fair, last season they had a good record as well,
00:24and probably the season before that, their clean sheets,
00:26it's been scoring goals and making goals, it's always been,
00:30and just in recent games that's been a bit that side of it.
00:33Prior to it, we'd been doing okay, but we've just been a bit short in making goals and scoring,
00:42but the defensive record is a big part down to how well the defenders are doing.
00:48That win took you up to fifth at the time.
00:51How do you assess the picture now?
00:53It's not a big gap points-wise, but it's very hard.
00:56It's very hard.
00:56If you win two, you might move up to fifth.
00:58If you lose two, you might drop down to 15th.
01:00I don't know, I think, the way the league is.
01:03I think what we want to do is make sure that we're in a strong enough position,
01:06and that's why, whatever you say, picking up a point.
01:08Point for Burnley as well.
01:09Probably they would hope to get more.
01:11It's their home game, and they're needing it more.
01:14At the moment, we want to keep picking up points where we can.
01:20Adding to the total, we'd a light three, but our performance didn't merit that today.
01:25You know Barry's first goal for the club, obviously, in that Forrest game.
01:29How do you assess his output and his confidence level since then?
01:32I think he's played well in some games, even today.
01:35When he comes on, the keeper makes a really good save from him.
01:38Sorry, I keep referring back to today because we're talking about Forrest.
01:41But, yeah, look, I think he's improved.
01:44We've tried to give him a run of games to give him that confidence or show what he can do.
01:49But ultimately, any of the centre-fours we've got, they've got to score goals
01:52because that's, if you're a number nine, I think he's got one,
01:55and I think Beto's got one as well.
01:58So, that's not good enough, and we need to find more goals.
02:01When you play teams in quick succession, like you will do with Forrest,
02:05and you've come, obviously, more convincingly in that first game,
02:08how does that change their approach or dynamic?
02:11Yeah, look, I don't think any should be kidded with Nottingham Forrest.
02:14Nottingham Forrest is a team who qualified for Europe last year
02:17and were well up the league and played really well all last season,
02:21got positive results.
02:22So, I think the squad of players are certainly in a far better place
02:27than the league position suggests at the moment.
02:29That's funny for me.
02:30Are you happy to have some of the guys back?
02:33There's a chance, so we'll hope so.
02:36We'll wait and see.
02:38OK, that bit is embargoed till 12pm tomorrow lunchtime.
02:43Any further questions from the written lads?
02:47David, I thought Tim O'Rourke did really well today.
02:51I've seen a tough game against Newcastle a few weeks ago.
02:53I think he's responded really well to that.
02:56Are you glad he's shown that mental strength to come back from that?
03:01Yeah, I thought Tim played really well in midweek.
03:03I wasn't so sure today, but I'm still pleased that where he is,
03:07he's improving all the time.
03:09He generally struggled a little bit in the 90 minutes in the games,
03:12and he's happened to play them because we're short.
03:16We're short on substitution choices and what we can do, really.
03:21So, he's having to find a way of getting through the games.
03:23He's done well for us, so we're pleased with what he's doing.
03:25Yeah, and in terms of going forward,
03:30this is a particularly big opportunity for him with Adrisson up there at the moment.
03:34Yeah, get an opportunity to take the jersey and hang on to it,
03:39play well enough to do so.
03:42He's still got a bit to do.
03:44I mentioned it, I want him to keep playing forward.
03:46I want him to be a bit more positive in his overall play.
03:50But there's parts of his game very good,
03:52his recovery and getting back to win things back.
03:55He's been excellent.
03:56Finally for me, Simley, with Jacob Ryan,
03:59tough one against Arsenal,
04:00and then the penalty, the way he responded today.
04:03Yeah.
04:03No, we stuck at it.
04:05You know, we stuck at it throughout the game.
04:07We could have played much better, as I've said.
04:09But, look, they'd done, they made sure that Burnley didn't score today.
04:15And that gave us a chance of getting something.
04:17And we nearly nicked something,
04:18but it would have been harsh on Burnley if that had been the case.
04:23Okay.
