Everton lost their final game of the season, and missed out on European football.
Transcript
00:00Everton lost their final game of the campaign to Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, ensuring that the North
00:08London side would stay in the Premier League.
00:13But for David Moyes, it has been a disappointing end to their campaign.
00:18They lost four games out of their last six and different results could have meant that the club were playing
00:25at Champions League or Europa League next season.
00:31For a while, it looked as if it was the first time Everton may finish above Liverpool in the Premier
00:37League, but their form heading into those final six games really tailed off.
00:43In an interview after the game, David Moyes explained that certain decisions had prevented his side from going into the
00:51final game with a good headspace.
00:55The manager also reflected on his long time at Everton Football Club over two spells.
01:02He mentioned that when he first came to the club, it was about surviving by Easter time, but that he
01:08hopes it is not the same with this group.
01:12Yeah, I'm disappointed in the last six or seven weeks.
01:15Well, probably for three quarters of the season, we've been very good.
01:18The last six or seven weeks, we've been really disappointed, but not always.
01:23And I'm saying it in every interview I do at the moment is you cannot forget the handball at West
01:28Ham or the penalty kick at Man City.
01:30If we were coming here with two points more, we'd have had a different mindset completely.
01:37We've got a group of players coming here, comfortable position in the league.
01:43We would have been coming here needing to get a win probably or a draw to be in Europe.
01:49So there's been a lot of things that have played the part.
01:51Probably more so this season I've felt that than ever before, certainly from my point of view.
01:57Joe?
01:59David, as I just said, you finished the season one point better off than last season.
02:02Do you think that's a fair reflection on the campaign?
02:06Probably not, but I think it's more of a reflection of what the Premier League's been like this year.
02:10I didn't think for a minute that Tottenham, West Ham or Nottingham Forest could go down.
02:14I thought their squads were too strong.
02:15I thought their teams were too good.
02:17I couldn't see how that could happen.
02:18But obviously, a couple of teams sort of just dropped away a little bit,
02:23but I didn't see how any of those teams could be involved in it.
02:26I really didn't.
02:27So for us not to be near it, and let's be fair, probably for most of the season,
02:32we've been talking about we've been in the top eight, nine.
02:37But you have to play all the games.
02:41And I remember when I first joined Everton 10, many years ago it was, 15 years ago,
02:47Everton used to always just get safer at Easter.
02:50Get safe at Easter, that was it.
02:55Hopefully that's not the same with this group.
