00:00At its first weekly meeting since the start of officially monitoring for the Tobago House of Assembly elections, the Council for Responsible Political Conduct says political parties and candidates have largely upheld the integrity of the campaign so far.
00:14The Council noted that parties have publicly committed to running clean campaigns ahead of the January 12, 2026 polls. Earlier this week, all political parties were invited to sign the Code of Ethical Political Conduct. However, only two of the four parties participated.
00:31Despite this, the Council says the invitation to sign the Code remains open. While acknowledging the overall positive tone of the campaign, the Council says concerns have been raised, particularly regarding conduct on social media.
00:46As Election Day approaches, the Council is reminding parties, candidates and supporters to adhere to key principles, including avoiding discrimination, reframing from false or defamatory statements, and respecting the private lives of candidates and their families.
01:03The Council says these standards are critical to protecting the integrity of the electoral process and maintaining public trust.
