00:00Hello, everybody, and welcome once again to Giants Live.
00:23We're here in Sacramento, California.
00:25We're almost ready for this year's World's Strongest Man finals.
00:28But while they get themselves sorted here and hopefully reinforce this stage an extra bit,
00:32across the ocean, there's still one more qualifying event to be held,
00:36and it is the World Tour finals from Glasgow.
00:39There, against the rowdiest, most raucous atmosphere you'll find anywhere in the sport,
00:43we're going to be seeing big dogs like Tom Stolman and big logs with the Log Lift Challenge.
00:49Scotland and strength go hand in hand because of that brave heart sort of feeling.
01:0316-year-olds all the way up to 60, 70-year-olds up in Highland,
01:06they're just naturally strong boys.
01:08They live on farms.
01:10People just associate Scotland with being a very, very strong country.
01:13The history of strength started in Scotland.
01:19You know, the historic stones, the Battle of the Clans,
01:22who would be the bodyguard for the clans chief or the king or whoever it was,
01:27whoever could lift the heaviest stone.
01:29And with that in the modern era, you know, Tom and I,
01:32we've really kind of held on to that kind of, that history in it.
01:38You know, and it's no surprise that Tom's the greatest that's ever been at Atlas Stones.
01:42You know, Tom would have been the king's bodyguard,
01:44probably the king of Scotland back then, heaven forbid.
01:48This was a path pre-chosen for him, by whoever it might be,
01:55but this was his path that he was supposed to find,
01:58for him to find that joy in life,
02:00because finding that joy is really special,
02:03and that's what I take from it.
02:05Like, it's where I got that tattoo in my arm of Tom winning the first time,
02:09the world's strongest man in 2021,
02:11that embrace that we had,
02:13because it's one of the most proudest moments of my life.
02:18You know, I'm a straw man at the end of the day,
02:21and I wanted to end a year on a high and come to Irons Live Glasgow
02:24and go out with a bang at the end of the World Tour Finals.
02:29I want to beat Tom.
02:30I've always wanted to beat Tom,
02:32and I feel like, you know,
02:33we've had the potential to beat Tom for quite a few years,
02:35and it'd be nice to actually, you know, finally do it.
02:39Tom's a three-time world's strongest man,
02:41and, you know, he deserves all the credit that them titles obviously carry.
02:44As they're mine, obviously Tom's titles trump mine.
02:48But different comps, different events, you know,
02:50people are beatable, no-one's unbeatable.
02:54You have to bring nothing but your A-game,
02:56otherwise Tom will just walk straight past you.
02:58So when he raises the level, it makes you raise the level
03:01because he is...
03:03He is Tom's total man.
03:08He has won this show.
03:09He is also three-times world's strongest man in the world
03:11because of the titles.
03:11But, uh, to pip him to that first shot,
03:15that'd be something special, wouldn't it?
03:18You want to go after that guy who's on his own turf
03:20because the pressure's on him.
03:22Maybe I am an underdog.
03:24Say the underdog's got the biggest bite.
03:26Well, put a big hole in him tomorrow.
03:28I can't wait.
03:31You know, I'm probably the one that's Jane-hunted.
03:33But I'm going to try my best to, uh,
03:35stay as far away from my play as I can.
03:37Welcome to Scotland,
03:49a country of history,
03:50a country of strength.
03:52Almost a millennia ago,
03:54the three powerhouses were William Wallace,
03:57Robert the Bruce,
03:58and Rob Roy.
03:59Fast forward to present day,
04:01and it's Sir Chris Hoy,
04:03Sir Andy Murray,
04:04and potentially a man who's literally
04:06head and shoulders above the rest.
04:08The three times world's strongest man,
04:11Tom Stoltman.
04:12He's won this event before,
04:14but this time,
04:15there are a number of other men
04:16looking to stop him.
04:19Yes, thanks, Radzi.
04:22This is Glasgow.
04:24So let's start with, well,
04:26the reigning official Scotland's strongest man,
04:30earned him a place at tonight's contest,
04:33Callum Crozier.
04:36The British Bears,
04:39what they call this guy,
04:40the biggest strongman event
04:42of his career to date,
04:44starts now,
04:44Ryan Bennett.
04:47Jack Osborne,
04:49competing in the log lift only tonight,
04:51may look like a geography teacher.
04:53Very powerful man.
04:56From Ukraine,
04:58Pilpyak,
04:59just the latest in a factory line
05:02of incredibly strong men from Ukraine.
05:07From Canada,
05:08they call him the train,
05:10making his Giants' live debut,
05:13James Jeffers.
05:17Another debutant,
05:19former collegiate football player,
05:21came second at America's strongest man last year,
05:24Tim Buck.
05:25The Ghanaian gladiator,
05:29known for his fighting spirit.
05:32A real showman as well.
05:35Lovely muscles.
05:36Evans Nanna.
05:39Another big British star on the rise,
05:42the Flying Flynn,
05:43placed third at Britain's strongest man this year,
05:45Andrew Flynn.
05:46From Canada,
05:50well,
05:50one of their strongest exports,
05:52placed third at world's strongest man in 2021,
05:55the Wolverine,
05:56Maxime Boudreau.
05:59From the Czech Republic,
06:01finished third at this year's Europe's strongest man,
06:03just 23 years of age,
06:06Andre Foytu.
06:10This guy smashed the Welsh deadlift record
06:13at our last event,
06:1414 years as an infantryman,
06:16great at rugby too,
06:17Gavin Bilton.
06:21Two-time world's strongest man runner-up,
06:24very much on a comeback trail this year,
06:27placed third at Europe's strongest man,
06:29the Terminator himself,
06:31Matthias Kuliszkowski.
06:36A two-time Europe's strongest man,
06:39won his second European title this year,
06:41they call him the future,
06:42he's here tonight,
06:44Luke Richardson.
06:46And finally,
06:49the Albatross himself,
06:53three-time world's strongest man,
06:56won this event in 2023,
06:58Tom Stoltman,
06:59in front of a very excited home crowd.
07:10And unless you think you can do any better,
07:12those are your strongmen.
07:13as we move into the world log lift challenge.
07:19And it starts at 170 kilos,
07:21you want to get a British record,
07:23those who are Brits,
07:24221 or above is what they need.
07:27And then,
07:27of course,
07:28there's Iron Bibby's world record at 231.
07:30Will we get there?
07:31Well,
07:31so far,
07:32we've seen eight men drop out.
07:34And I'm afraid Callum Crozier didn't get any lifts at all.
07:38At the top,
07:3842,
07:39he skipped.
07:40As for Kuliszkowski,
07:41a big surprise,
07:42he managed to get up the 170,
07:44but then injury at 180,
07:45and he's out.
07:46I'm afraid the Achilles tendon
07:51that's plagued him for years now
07:54has once again reared its ugly head.
07:58So one of the favorites
07:59has already dropped out.
08:01We go on to 190 kilos,
08:02and we're going to go for two platforms
08:04at the same time.
08:05They can lift in their own time.
08:06Oleg from Ukraine.
08:10And there's Jack Osborne,
08:11who is one of the favorites
08:13for the log today.
08:14He's talked about
08:16getting the British record,
08:17so this should be pretty easy
08:19if he's going to get
08:20anywhere near that today.
08:25And it's very easy for both men.
08:30Synchronized pressing there.
08:31That was good stuff.
08:33190 kilos.
08:35Gosh,
08:35it's not that long ago
08:36that it was Laurence Charle,
08:39actually,
08:39Kuliszkowski's coach tonight,
08:41who did that as a British record.
08:43Things have moved on,
08:45but this would be a record
08:46for Luke Richardson.
08:47190 kilos.
08:48Worry to achieve it.
08:50He'll be going head-to-head
08:52with Big Tom Stoltman,
08:55three-time World's Strongest Man.
08:58Yes,
08:58a man you'd expect to be
09:00200-plus kilos tonight.
09:03So this is a big moment
09:04for Richardson.
09:05This is
09:05to try and not give away
09:07too much of an advantage
09:09to those who are likely
09:10to go on and do better.
09:11Oh,
09:12missed it.
09:13Well,
09:14Stoltman locks out,
09:15gets it.
09:16Now,
09:17will Richardson have a second go?
09:19I think he's worth it.
09:21It's almost as if he
09:22lacked the confidence a bit.
09:23He certainly threw it
09:24fast enough overhead.
09:26He's just got to
09:26stick it and hold it.
09:31Yes.
09:32And he locks out.
09:33Yes,
09:33he does.
09:37So two more go clear
09:38at 190.
09:42Man vs. Log continues
09:43when we return
09:44with Andre Foytu
09:46eyeing up the
09:46under-23 world record,
09:48Jack Osborne
09:49chasing the British one
09:50and Tom Stoltman
09:51looking to beat them both
09:52in his backyard.
09:53Who will come out on top?
09:55We'll find out next
09:55on Giants Live.
10:02Well,
10:08welcome back
10:09to Glasgow
10:10where the
10:12World Log Lift
10:13Challenge continues,
10:14Colin.
10:14That's right,
10:15we're on to round four.
10:16200 kilograms,
10:17440 pounds
10:18and four men
10:19have gone so far.
10:20Tom Stoltman
10:20has been successful.
10:22Richardson,
10:23Polpiak
10:24and Bennett
10:24have all failed.
10:26So,
10:27just two men to come
10:28and it's
10:29Foytu,
10:31the man who's
10:31had his eyes set
10:32on the world record
10:33for a long time.
10:35Skipped 190.
10:36How easy
10:37will 200 be?
10:43Manages it.
10:45Yeah,
10:46he doesn't exactly
10:46dominate it though,
10:47does he?
10:47No.
10:49But it was enough.
10:52We've seen that
10:52in the past
10:53with the likes
10:54of Zabiscus.
10:54He would come out
10:55and skip weights
10:56and not look
10:57pretty convincing
10:57and then pull it out
10:59when it mattered.
10:59Now,
11:00Jack Osborne
11:00looked very convincing
11:02at 190.
11:04He's choosing
11:05all the weights
11:05on the way up.
11:11Almost made it look
11:12easier than 190.
11:13I think he did.
11:14So,
11:15we have three men
11:15going forward.
11:18He's all shoulder power
11:20didn't use his legs
11:20much there
11:21at all,
11:22Osborne.
11:22Very impressive.
11:23Tom Stoltman then.
11:29Will be attempting
11:30210.
11:33Yes,
11:34for Stoltman
11:34this is all about
11:35accruing points
11:36for the overall win.
11:38He won't really care
11:39so much
11:40if Osborne
11:40goes on
11:42and does whatever.
11:43He gets a success here.
11:44It'll be really good
11:45points in the log.
11:46It was quite clear
11:49he wanted big power
11:50from his little brother.
11:53Oh,
11:54the first attempt
11:55a little shaky there.
11:57In fact,
11:58he was just seeing stars
11:59of it.
12:00He's got to take his time.
12:01Step back.
12:03He knows the score.
12:04He knows what to do.
12:05Sometimes you bend down,
12:06you clean it up
12:07and suddenly
12:07it just crushes
12:09your windpipe
12:09a little bit.
12:10Just got to take
12:12a bit more air in
12:13as you pick it up.
12:16Keep it methodical.
12:19Well,
12:20up it goes.
12:22But there it stays
12:24I'm afraid.
12:25Well,
12:26Tom Stoltman
12:26bows out
12:27at 210.
12:31Yeah,
12:31the second attempt
12:32a lot better
12:32than the first
12:33but he'd already
12:33burned just too much
12:34energy
12:35in that first failure.
12:38And we move on
12:39with André Foytu.
12:42Also going for 210.
12:43A weight
12:44he handled last year
12:45at the World Log Championships
12:47comfortably.
12:49So this isn't
12:49any kind of
12:50a personal record
12:51but
12:51is it the stepping stone
12:53to Moore?
12:56Well,
12:56he's pleased with that.
13:00Foytu nails
13:00210.
13:03He's got the lead
13:05now then.
13:05What can Jack Osborne
13:07reply with?
13:09picture of concentration
13:11as
13:12the Czech man
13:13drives it overhead.
13:16He'll be desperate
13:16to at least go 220.
13:17I'm sure
13:18to break his own
13:19Czech record.
13:23For Osborne though,
13:24this
13:24I think is really
13:26the last stepping stone
13:28before a British record.
13:28I can see him
13:29doing that today.
13:30221 kilos
13:31of Luke Stoltman
13:32if he nails
13:33this well.
13:36Oh,
13:36it was better
13:37than the last.
13:38Good Lord.
13:39Jack Osborne
13:40making that
13:41look like fun.
13:43There could be
13:44a lot more in there.
13:45That was
13:46really impressive.
13:47Look at the way
13:47he drove it off his chest.
13:48It flew up.
13:49Barely had to
13:50press it
13:50with his triceps.
13:52And there's
13:52definitely 10.
13:53Maybe more
13:54kilos in there.
13:57Well,
13:57Osborne
13:57has decided
13:58to skip 220.
14:01And for Foytu,
14:02well,
14:02this would be
14:03a junior
14:03world record.
14:06He'll be 24 soon.
14:07Making him
14:08a very old man.
14:09No longer
14:09a junior.
14:11Yes,
14:11and also
14:11a Czech record.
14:12So 10 kilos
14:13past what he did
14:14last year.
14:17If he gets this,
14:18it's an under-23
14:19world record.
14:21It does?
14:22Surely.
14:23And it is.
14:27Well,
14:28he's having
14:28a nice night.
14:31Well,
14:32well,
14:32well.
14:32Pressure on
14:33Jack Osborne
14:34now.
14:34He skips this.
14:35He's going to
14:36go for the
14:36British record,
14:37Osborne.
14:38And that was
14:38really solid.
14:43What can
14:44Jack Osborne
14:45reply with?
14:47His coach,
14:49Laurence Charle,
14:52encouraging him.
14:53into the arena.
14:55Yes,
14:55Charle has
14:55coached him
14:56since before
14:57his first ever
14:57competition.
15:00As we move
15:01on to 222 kilos.
15:06This is for
15:07the British
15:08record.
15:08Here he goes for
15:14one kilo more
15:15than Luke
15:15Stoltman's
15:16British record of
15:17221 kilograms.
15:23Huge breath in.
15:25Oh,
15:25can he hold it?
15:27He can.
15:28And he's got it.
15:30The British record now
15:32belongs to Jack
15:33Osborne.
15:33Well,
15:35what a night.
15:37And I'm sure he'll
15:37probably call it a day
15:38there.
15:39That's a massive
15:40moment for him.
15:41A little stagger,
15:42but he's still got it
15:43up.
15:44Well,
15:44he's with Radzi
15:45now.
15:46Jack Osborne,
15:47you've just made
15:48history,
15:49a British record
15:50in the log press.
15:51How are you feeling?
15:52Ecstatic.
15:52You know,
15:53it's like those first
15:54few lifts were
15:55moving very well,
15:56but as I kind of got
15:57heavier weights
15:57and that going,
15:58I actually started
15:58pressing normally
15:59and properly.
16:00So,
16:01especially having
16:01this huge crowd
16:02here does get
16:03you amped up
16:03and get your
16:03adrenaline going,
16:04especially when you
16:04get to his
16:05heavy weights.
16:05How did you do it?
16:06Because just as you
16:07said,
16:07it seemed to get
16:08easier the heavier
16:09the log got.
16:11Kind of lazy in
16:12training.
16:12So,
16:13when the weights
16:13get heavier,
16:14I actually kind of
16:14like get more
16:16energy into it,
16:17more enthusiasm.
16:18It is lazy,
16:19but having this
16:20huge crowd here
16:21and the bigger
16:21weights on there
16:22does get you
16:23fired up and
16:23that,
16:23and especially
16:24when it's like
16:24a record on
16:25there,
16:25you know,
16:26you have to go
16:27for it.
16:27So,
16:27you have to put
16:27everything in.
16:29Jack,
16:29thank you for
16:30that entertainment
16:31and history made.
16:32Thank you very much.
16:34Osborne with
16:34the British record
16:3542,
16:36setting a new
16:36under 23
16:37world best
16:38and Tom Stoltman
16:39having to settle
16:40for third
16:40behind them both.
16:42While Osborne
16:43now bows out,
16:44the rest of the
16:44field continues
16:45with the
16:45World Tour final.
16:47Radzi has more.
16:48It's time for
16:49event number two
16:50and this one
16:51is a fascinating
16:52one.
16:52It is the
16:53load and push.
16:54It is simple
16:55in theory.
16:56Take those
16:56three implements
16:57in relay form
16:59and load them
16:59into the skip.
17:01The problem is
17:01those implements
17:02are a sandbag,
17:03a tyre and an anvil
17:05with a combined
17:05weight of 360 kilograms
17:08and after doing
17:09all that lung
17:10busting action,
17:11you then load them
17:12into this skip
17:13aka the wheelbarrow
17:15of destiny.
17:16You pick it up
17:17at the end
17:17and run the 20 metres
17:19as long as
17:20humanly possible.
17:21The fastest man wins
17:23and it could come down
17:24to who wants it
17:25most.
17:27Well,
17:27three men have
17:28gone so far
17:28and Ryan Bennett
17:29of Great Britain
17:30has finished
17:31all of it
17:32in 51.58 seconds
17:34ahead of
17:34Maxime Boudreau.
17:36Polipiak,
17:37only two sections.
17:38So Crozier,
17:39Jeffers
17:39and Flynn
17:40next to take on
17:42the load
17:43and push.
17:44I'll be honest,
17:45budgets were down
17:46this year.
17:46This is just a bunch
17:47of stuff we found
17:47in the garage.
17:48And it's Crozier,
17:51Scotland's
17:52strongest man
17:53who's pushing
17:54Jeffers here
17:55for the lead.
17:56All three men
17:57onto the tyre
17:58pretty much equally.
17:59Flynn on the far side
18:00is very quick though.
18:02Starts to make
18:03a bit of a lead here.
18:04That's Flynn
18:05and Crozier
18:06making fast work
18:08of this.
18:0851.58 to beat.
18:11150 kilo sack.
18:13This is a real
18:13brute of a finish.
18:16And that's just
18:17the loading section
18:18as they have to
18:18wheel round
18:19these barrows,
18:21lift them
18:21and go.
18:22This is going
18:23to be a very
18:24quick finish,
18:25very tight finish.
18:27Call this one.
18:29England on the far
18:29side,
18:30Scotland on the near
18:31side.
18:31Who's going to get it?
18:33Well,
18:33it looks like Flynn
18:33to me.
18:35Crozier in second.
18:38And a little bit
18:39more pedestrian
18:40there from the
18:41Canadian Jeffers
18:42in the centre lane.
18:43He'll be a bit
18:44disappointed with that
18:45in his Giants
18:46live debut.
18:47Flying Flynn.
18:52There's a bit of
18:53steering involved,
18:54isn't there?
18:55A little bit
18:55more than you'd
18:56think.
18:56More than you'd
18:57think.
18:58I can't remember
18:59the last time
18:59I drove a skip.
19:01On to Tim Buck,
19:02Evans, Nana
19:02and Gavin
19:03Bilton now.
19:07And they're eager.
19:10That's Big Gab,
19:10the Welshman
19:11on the far side.
19:12Nana
19:12from Ghana
19:14in the middle
19:15and this man
19:16Tim Buck
19:17too.
19:18He's from the
19:19USA.
19:22Nana so quick.
19:24This is just a
19:24tailor-made event
19:25for him.
19:28He's got that
19:28speed, hasn't he?
19:29Evans, Nana.
19:29Yes, he just
19:30loosens his belt
19:31a little bit
19:32there as well
19:32to be able
19:32to get down
19:33to this sack.
19:34Oh, he's a little
19:35bit slow in the
19:36pickup and it's
19:36Tim Buck.
19:38Again, a Giants
19:39live debutant
19:40doing really
19:41well here.
19:43Nana moves on
19:44to the push.
19:45Buck as well,
19:46Bilton slightly
19:47behind.
19:47Now, what's
19:50the grip like
19:50of Nana?
19:51It's normally
19:52tremendous.
19:5449.58 to beat
19:56and he's going
19:57to manage that.
19:58He's charging
19:59towards the line.
20:0151.21
20:02for Evans,
20:03Nana.
20:03I'm not sure
20:04where Buck
20:04thinks he's
20:05going,
20:06but he finds
20:07the line.
20:1157.83
20:12there for
20:13Tim Buck.
20:15Certainly took
20:16the longest
20:16course when
20:17he was driving
20:18down with that
20:19skip.
20:20As for Nana
20:20though,
20:20he looked
20:21really impressive.
20:24Luke Richardson,
20:25Tom Stoltman,
20:27Andre Foytu.
20:29Foytu has done
20:30so well already
20:30tonight.
20:33Well, these are
20:33your three big
20:34favourites now
20:35that Kieliszkowski
20:35is out of the
20:36competition for
20:38this title here
20:38at the World
20:39Tour Finals
20:40in Glasgow
20:40and Luke
20:41Richardson,
20:42a man who's
20:42been plagued
20:43with injuries
20:43and he pull
20:45out something
20:46special here.
20:47He's already
20:47done it once
20:48this year,
20:48winning the
20:49European title
20:50and he's well
20:52ahead of Tom
20:53Stoltman,
20:53the man on
20:54home soil
20:55who is expected
20:57to win.
20:58So much pressure
20:59on Big Tom's
21:00shoulders.
21:02Look at that.
21:03Determination.
21:04He's almost
21:04sinking into the
21:05ground,
21:05Richardson,
21:06as he moves
21:07to the push.
21:09Very quick in the
21:10pickup.
21:11He's got a great
21:11deadlift,
21:12Richardson.
21:12Richardson now,
21:12can he steer
21:13this straight?
21:14Steer it home
21:15and under 49.58.
21:17He might just
21:18do that.
21:18I think he might.
21:20I think he did.
21:22By 600s of a
21:23second,
21:24he has done.
21:24Stoltman,
21:25not far behind.
21:27All of them
21:27are going to get
21:28good points for
21:28this event.
21:3051.91 to Tom
21:32Stoltman.
21:36Poitou,
21:3752.52.
21:41That's Poitou
21:42carrying great
21:42points from the
21:43log, of course.
21:44Richardson just
21:45playing catch-up
21:46here, but that's
21:47the best of
21:47anybody.
21:48He will get
21:49maximum points.
21:50Over to Radzi.
21:52Luke Richardson,
21:53load and push
21:53done, load and
21:54push done
21:54extremely well.
21:55How does that
21:56feel on your body
21:57when you're
21:57performing that?
21:58Yeah, it's a
21:59really tough event,
21:59obviously, it
22:00tests the fitness,
22:00but I'm
22:01fit enough.
22:02I wouldn't say
22:02I'm a fit lad,
22:03but I'm fit enough.
22:04I tore my
22:05bicycle off four
22:05and a half months
22:06ago and had the
22:07surgery for that,
22:08and that bag was
22:10heavier than the
22:11one that I tore it
22:11on about four and
22:12a half, five months
22:13ago.
22:13So, yeah, just
22:14proving again the
22:15amount of people
22:16who said I'm done.
22:17I'm done when I
22:18say I'm done.
22:19So, that's it.
22:20Still winning
22:20loads of events.
22:21I don't care.
22:22What would you
22:23like us to know
22:23about you, by the
22:24way?
22:24Because you
22:24mentioned the
22:25journey.
22:25We know about
22:25the injuries, but
22:27what about the
22:27heart?
22:28It speaks for
22:29itself.
22:30Many a man
22:31time ago.
22:32Not me.
22:33This is my life.
22:34It's what I do.
22:35It's what I'm good
22:36at, and I think
22:36that if you've got
22:36a gift, you should
22:37never neglect it.
22:38So, regardless of
22:39what happens, you've
22:40got to go for it.
22:41And you are going
22:42for it.
22:42Three more events
22:43to go.
22:43Cheers, mate.
22:45Luke with a fine
22:46win by a very
22:47fine margin, beating
22:49Andrew Flynn by
22:50just four one
22:51hundredths of a
22:51second, and less
22:52than a second
22:53separating the next
22:54four men from
22:55Evans Nanner in
22:56third to Tom
22:57Stoltman in
22:57sixth.
22:59Overall, it's
23:00Luke who's the
23:01early leader, three
23:02points clear, with
23:03Stoltman tied in
23:04second place right
23:05now with Andre
23:06Foytu.
23:07A point behind
23:07them, Ryan Bennett
23:08with Andrew Flynn
23:09and Evans Nanner
23:10then very much in the
23:11fight still for a
23:12podium place.
23:14There's work for
23:15three-time world
23:16champion Tom to do
23:17then here in
23:18Glasgow, with
23:19clearly no shortage
23:20of rivals for the
23:21World Tour Finals
23:22crown.
23:23More drama awaits
23:24when we return on
23:25Giants Live.
23:32Welcome back to
23:33Glasgow, where so
23:34far the crowd at the
23:35Ovo Hydro Arena have
23:37had plenty to cheer
23:38about between the big
23:39biceps and the pecs.
23:41Records broken in the
23:42log lift and a three-way
23:43tussle now atop the
23:44overall standings.
23:45What's next?
23:46Over to Colin and
23:47Danny.
23:48Well, thanks, James.
23:48And yes, the carry and
23:50drag.
23:50Very confusing name,
23:51Colin.
23:52What do you do?
23:53You have to carry a
23:53duck walk and then
23:54drag an anchor.
23:5510 metres, then 20.
23:5760 seconds is the
23:58time limit.
23:59And this is what's
23:59happened so far.
24:00Well, out in the
24:02lead so far, the
24:03Canadian Maxime
24:04Boudreau.
24:05Jefferson 42 just
24:06behind as we move
24:07on to Tom Stoltman,
24:09Ryan Bennett,
24:10Callum Crozier.
24:13Scotsman closest to
24:14camera.
24:16And they're off.
24:18First of all, this
24:19duck walk.
24:21Crozier's going the
24:21wrong way entirely.
24:24Out.
24:25I mean, um, if you
24:27want to look cool as
24:28a strong man, this
24:30isn't the event for
24:31it.
24:32Still to do a 360
24:33degree turn with that
24:34weight.
24:34Very impressive, but
24:35it's a, this is an
24:37event he was looking to
24:37do really well at.
24:39This is the harder
24:39element though for the
24:40lighter man like
24:41Crozier.
24:42Big Tom's got that
24:43body weight to power
24:44at home.
24:46Ryan Bennett doing
24:47his very best to try
24:48and catch him, but
24:49surely this will be
24:50Stoltman's 32 seconds
24:52to beat.
24:53He's outside of that,
24:55but he sees at home
24:56and around about 37
24:5861, Bennett in
25:00second and now
25:01Crozier.
25:03Wow.
25:03Two men have
25:04failed to finish this.
25:05He's still going to
25:06finish it despite that
25:07little pirouette with
25:08the duck walk.
25:08Yes, an unusual start
25:10for Crozier that
25:10managed around 49
25:12seconds.
25:13This was the moment.
25:16Yes, a little moment
25:17of madness.
25:19He soon realized
25:21though, didn't he?
25:21Oh, it's painful.
25:24To Evans, Nana,
25:26Andrew Flynn and Luke
25:27Richardson now.
25:29Look how keen that.
25:31Nana, yeah, nearly
25:33jumping and gone there.
25:34Well, it's Luke
25:38Richardson who's
25:39doing very well here.
25:41Oh, my goodness.
25:42Please don't injure
25:43yourself again, Luke.
25:46Now, can he recover
25:47here?
25:47All three men pretty
25:48much equal at the
25:49start of this drag.
25:50Great footwork though
25:51for Richardson, the
25:52Englishman.
25:53But Nana also,
25:54pretty much even
25:55Stephens.
25:55In fact, he's in
25:56the lead, Nana.
25:58Well, Nana
25:59takes it.
26:01Oh, into the crowd.
26:02Nearly takes out
26:03the crowd.
26:0429.85 for Luke
26:06Richardson.
26:0728.35.
26:10I'm sure he's fine
26:10for Evans, Nana.
26:13He went down heavy
26:14there.
26:15He gave everything
26:16for that one.
26:18That's the equivalent
26:18of diving in 100
26:19metre race, isn't it?
26:21As for Richardson,
26:22oh, the big wobble
26:23there.
26:24That could have been
26:25a whole lot worse.
26:26Good recovery from
26:27Richardson.
26:27Probably not the
26:29result he wanted.
26:30And there's 100%
26:31commitment from Nana.
26:33Evans, Nana, what
26:34would success look
26:35like for you by
26:36end of play today?
26:38I think I've already
26:39won.
26:40Why the crowd?
26:42I love they make
26:44time to come see us
26:45and giving them
26:46something to go back
26:47home gives me
26:48happiness.
26:49My mum always said
26:50not everybody to be
26:52a champion.
26:53People are winners,
26:54but a champion is
26:55someone who makes
26:56people's day.
26:57It would give people
26:58something to think
26:58about.
26:59And I'm here to be a
27:00champion.
27:01Well said, sir.
27:02And finally, we can't
27:02take the smile off
27:03your face.
27:04Man, I love what I do.
27:05Seriously.
27:06I've given so much
27:08to be here.
27:09And getting something
27:10back in return
27:11makes my day.
27:13I'm so satisfied,
27:14mate.
27:15We're satisfied
27:16talking to you, mate.
27:17It's a pleasure.
27:17Thank you so much,
27:18brother.
27:19Yeah.
27:19Lovely stuff from Evans.
27:21The Ghanaian winning
27:22the crowd and event
27:23three.
27:24Richardson's second,
27:25despite his stumble,
27:26with Andrew Flynn
27:27flying into third.
27:28Tim Buck, meanwhile,
27:29has withdrawn
27:30from the event,
27:30injured.
27:33Overall now,
27:34Luke Richardson's lead
27:35is up to five
27:36and a half points,
27:37while Nana
27:37moves into second spot,
27:39and Andrew Flynn
27:40is currently edging
27:41Foytu and Stoltman
27:42for the third podium
27:43position.
27:44It's tight, though.
27:45Can he hang on?
27:46He's with Radzi now.
27:49Andy Flynn,
27:50currently top three
27:51at an international show.
27:53Things are going
27:54pretty well for you.
27:55Things are going
27:55very well for me,
27:56and I'll take it.
27:57But it's also
27:58very close.
27:59How are we feeling
28:00at this point?
28:01I always know,
28:01going into this,
28:02that the Wrecking Ball
28:03will be the deciding event.
28:04I think that's going
28:05to set the tone
28:06for, like,
28:07the last event as well,
28:08so this is
28:08all or nothing now.
28:10So with yourself,
28:11we know dynamically
28:11you're brilliant.
28:12You're a brilliant athlete.
28:13How are you statically
28:14when it comes to just
28:15that four and five?
28:16Your arm lactic?
28:16I'm not putting it down
28:17unless my body gives way.
28:19I've done it twice already,
28:20so I kind of know
28:21a guideline
28:22for what I'm aiming for.
28:23About 85, 89 seconds
28:24I've done before,
28:25so I can go
28:26and see what they're doing
28:27and then I've got it
28:28in my mind.
28:29Mate, good luck.
28:29Thank you very much.
28:32Well,
28:32it's the Wrecking Ball
28:33hold now.
28:34That's the Wrecking Ball.
28:36They've got to hold it.
28:37270 kilos.
28:39Just don't let go.
28:41Yeah, 600 pounds
28:41in the hands,
28:42and this is what's
28:43happened so far.
28:44Callum Crozier,
28:44the Scotsman on top.
28:46One minute, 17 seconds
28:48ahead of Gavin Bilton,
28:50Bennett in third.
28:52Well, in fourth,
28:53Tom Stoltman.
28:54Things not really
28:55going his way tonight.
28:57Potentially,
28:58his bicep recovery
28:59still going on.
29:00As we move on to
29:02Foytu and Jeffers.
29:08That's a tough result
29:09for Stoltman.
29:11Probably going to lose
29:12a lot of points.
29:13Let's see how
29:13these two men do.
29:14The only way
29:15this event could be
29:15improved is if we
29:16turned it into
29:17conquers.
29:18Can you imagine?
29:22I like that.
29:23Swinging it in.
29:25Probably be kind of
29:26bad for the back,
29:26though.
29:28Both men
29:28ready to dig deep
29:30in this event,
29:31psychologically,
29:32shutting their eyes,
29:33waiting,
29:35hoping to hit
29:36the other guy,
29:37drop it.
29:38A short handle
29:39they have to hang on to.
29:41Doesn't make it any easier.
29:42The only three fingers
29:43are really on it.
29:44Now then,
29:46we're up past 30 seconds.
29:471 minute 17
29:48from Crozier.
29:49Scotland's strongest man,
29:51which is a
29:51delightful result
29:52for him and the crowd.
29:57Nervous glance
29:58at the clock
29:58from Jeffers there,
30:00but Foytu
30:00remains
30:01inside himself.
30:04Jeffers just
30:04leaning back more,
30:05trying to get his
30:06body weight into
30:07helping him here.
30:08He's got to be careful,
30:08though,
30:08if he starts to rest
30:10that on his thighs,
30:11he will get cold for it
30:12as it slips down.
30:13I think Jeffers is
30:14about to go,
30:15the Canadian on the right.
30:18That's that.
30:20Now, Foytu.
30:21A little smile
30:21on Foytu's face.
30:22He likes that.
30:23A little smile.
30:25Now,
30:251.17 and a half
30:26to beat,
30:27and he has done that.
30:31He's sucking this up.
30:32He's in the lead
30:33by some margin now.
30:34Can he go to
30:351 minute 30?
30:36Looking really strong.
30:39Legs starting
30:39to wobble a bit.
30:40He's going down.
30:42Well,
30:43that is great work
30:44from Andre Foytu.
30:461.31.
30:483.7.
30:49That's a huge time.
30:50Very hard to see
30:52that being beaten.
30:53It's one of the best times
30:54we've ever seen
30:55on this implement.
30:56Such a tough character,
30:58Foytu.
30:59To Wolverine himself,
31:01Maxime Boudreau,
31:03and Andrew Flynn.
31:05He's had his eye
31:06on this event,
31:08hasn't he?
31:08He's in a great position
31:10right now overall, Flynn.
31:11If he can just consolidate
31:12it with a good result here.
31:15For some reason,
31:16his wrecking ball
31:16is spinning.
31:17Yeah, that is a bit
31:17strange, isn't it?
31:18Maybe disco balls
31:19is the way to go.
31:24I'm just throwing ideas,
31:25you know,
31:25I'm just trying to help.
31:28I'll meet you
31:28at the design stage
31:29next time, Danny,
31:30I think.
31:32Flynn looks strong.
31:34He doesn't seem
31:34to be putting him off
31:35anyway.
31:36He isn't twisting
31:37the chain at all.
31:39As for the Wolverine,
31:40he's starting
31:40to wobble around a bit.
31:42Just past the 32nd mark.
31:44We've still got
31:44a whole minute to go
31:45before we get up
31:46to Andre Foytu's
31:47incredible.
31:48One minute,
31:4831.37.
31:51They're passing
31:52Tom Stoltman right now
31:54and things are just
31:54getting worse
31:55for Big Tom.
31:56Boudreau
32:00starting to perhaps
32:02waver Flynn
32:03like granite.
32:07And in a night
32:07where there's only
32:08five events,
32:10a real bad event
32:11like what Tom Stoltman's
32:13had and all these men,
32:14there you go Boudreau,
32:15it might not be great
32:16for him,
32:16but it's even worse
32:17for Stoltman.
32:18It's going to cost him
32:19a massive amount
32:20of points.
32:20Now,
32:20can Andy Flynn
32:21zone in on that
32:231 minute 31?
32:24He's,
32:25I don't think he's
32:26slipped at all here,
32:27he's still holding firm.
32:281 minute and 20,
32:3011 seconds to go.
32:32He's looking at that
32:33clock and he knows
32:34what he has to do.
32:341.31.37 to beat.
32:38Proper stoic look
32:39about him,
32:39he's so close!
32:42He couldn't wait!
32:441.31.75.
32:47He sort of enjoyed that.
32:48He couldn't,
32:49he really couldn't wait.
32:50It's that feeling
32:51when you've carried
32:51shopping for too long
32:52and you've finally
32:53released the
32:54pain is even worse.
32:55Good for Andy Flynn.
32:57The skinning ball
32:57certainly didn't
32:58put him off.
33:03There's a pain
33:03pleasure moment.
33:06Well,
33:06that's certainly
33:06thrown down a gauntlet
33:07to Luke Richardson
33:08and Evans Nana.
33:12Yes,
33:13our final pairing.
33:15Oh,
33:16Nana.
33:16Well,
33:17he should be allowed
33:17to go again.
33:18That was just a stumble
33:19with the kit.
33:20He is,
33:21but his time
33:21will start late.
33:24Yes,
33:25he hadn't locked out.
33:26So that means
33:27he could continue.
33:30I said he lifted it
33:31and held it
33:31for a few seconds.
33:32It would be a different
33:33story,
33:33but Luke Richardson's
33:35just got to zone out
33:36and really focus
33:38on what he's about here.
33:40He looks very solid
33:41now, Nana,
33:42doesn't he?
33:44Sometimes that
33:44jolt of adrenaline
33:45when things go wrong
33:46right at the start
33:47can just drive you
33:48on to an even
33:48better performance.
33:50Five seconds
33:51is the difference
33:53we're talking about here.
33:54So whatever the clock says,
33:56add five seconds
33:56for Nana.
33:58We'll get the official
33:59time from head ref
34:01Magnus
34:01at the end of this.
34:08He's not looking
34:09comfortable,
34:10Richardson.
34:11He's not enjoying this,
34:12is he?
34:14Can you enjoy it?
34:15Is it possible
34:15to enjoy this?
34:17If you're of a strange
34:18disposition, yes.
34:21Ooh,
34:22they're in different
34:22positions,
34:23Nana.
34:23They're starting
34:24to be pulled forward.
34:25Richardson's being pulled
34:26to the ground.
34:26I don't think he's got
34:27any more.
34:28No.
34:28Well,
34:281.13.45
34:30for Luke Richardson.
34:33Oh, no.
34:34Fingers are opening up.
34:35Look at this.
34:37Well,
34:38that's brave
34:38from Evans,
34:39Nana.
34:401.19.81.
34:43His time.
34:44Yes,
34:44the five-second penalty
34:45from this stumble.
34:48He regrouped,
34:49picked it up,
34:50did a great time
34:51in the end,
34:51finishing third.
34:53Andrew Flynn
34:53takes the win,
34:54but edging out
34:55Andre Foytu
34:56by just a few tenths
34:57of a second.
34:58Nana in third
34:59with overall leader
35:00Luke Richardson
35:00in fifth,
35:01and Tom Stoltman
35:02in tenth.
35:03His comeback hopes
35:04look done.
35:06With one event
35:06to go then,
35:07Luke Richardson's lead
35:08is down to
35:08two and a half points
35:09from Andrew Flynn,
35:10who's moved into second.
35:12Evans Nana now
35:12only half a point
35:13clear of Foytu
35:14in the race
35:15for third.
35:16Stoltman lying
35:16fifth,
35:17a remarkable
35:1713 points
35:19off his usual
35:19top spot.
35:21Tom Stoltman,
35:22the day obviously
35:22hasn't gone as you,
35:23dare I say,
35:24have liked it to.
35:25How has it gone
35:25from your end?
35:26Yeah, I mean,
35:27I had no expectations.
35:28I came in saying
35:29I was just doing log,
35:30and then last week
35:31I said I did a full
35:31competition.
35:32I've not competed
35:33in Glasgow
35:33for like two years,
35:34so I thought,
35:35you know what,
35:35let's just do it.
35:36But I just wanted
35:36to get through
35:37this shot
35:37without any
35:38touchwood bicep
35:41injuries or anything
35:42else.
35:42I see how the bicep
35:43held up,
35:43and like I said,
35:44the bicep
35:45falling out so far
35:45so good.
35:46One four down,
35:48one left.
35:48It's the stones
35:49going to end
35:50on a high?
35:51Yeah,
35:51this is what
35:52I'm most scared for.
35:52I've not touched
35:53the stones since
35:54August,
35:54so yeah,
35:55my heaviest stone
35:56I've been up to
35:57in the gym
35:57the last three months
35:59is 140,
35:59so if I get past 140,
36:01totally if I get past 140,
36:02we're going to be happy.
36:04So even Tom Stoltman's
36:05got questions about
36:05the stones?
36:06Yeah,
36:06that's what I tore
36:07my bicep on,
36:08and it's still a wee
36:08bit of a dark spot,
36:10so that's exactly
36:11why I wanted to do
36:11this as well,
36:12to see,
36:12I mean,
36:12this is a heavier
36:13set of stones,
36:14so if I can do this,
36:15I know my biceps
36:16100%,
36:17so I can push on
36:17for next year.
36:18Good luck today,
36:19mate.
36:21The Albatross
36:22hoping to finish
36:23on a high,
36:23but it's two other
36:24British contenders
36:25who will battle
36:25for top spot,
36:27Flynn and Richardson,
36:28who will take
36:29the crown?
36:29The Castle Stones
36:30will decide
36:31when we return.
36:33Welcome back
36:41to Glasgow
36:42and the World Tour
36:43Finals.
36:43Over to Colin
36:44and Danny.
36:45So,
36:46one event to go,
36:47Colin.
36:48And it's Luke Richardson
36:49on top,
36:50Andy Flynn
36:51currently in second,
36:52Nana in third,
36:52and look at that,
36:53Tom Stoltman
36:54down in fifth,
36:55coming into the stones,
36:56the Castle Stones,
36:58and they're the big set,
36:59finishing on 200 kilos,
37:0060 seconds,
37:01to try and do the lot.
37:02So far,
37:05we've had five men go
37:06and it's Gavin Bilton
37:07on five stones,
37:0929 seconds,
37:10who's in the lead.
37:14So,
37:15Ryan Bennett
37:16and Tom Stoltman
37:16next.
37:17Perhaps Tom can find
37:19some redemption here
37:20after a disappointing
37:23night for him.
37:23If he's going to find
37:25redemption in anything,
37:26it's going to be
37:27slam dunking these stones
37:28on,
37:28that's for sure.
37:29Looks pretty good
37:30so far.
37:31120,
37:32140,
37:32160 kilogram
37:33like nothing.
37:3529.98 to beat,
37:37he's halfway there
37:38with one stone to go.
37:40He's going to stumble
37:41on Andy,
37:41it'll be the big
37:42200 kilo one.
37:45Neibolder.
37:45He nails it,
37:4723.52 for Tom Stoltman,
37:49a fantastic result.
37:52That's about seven seconds
37:53quicker than what
37:54Gav Bilton did
37:54so he's way in the lead.
37:56That's a huge result
37:57for him
37:58and in many ways
38:00it sets him up
38:01for what's coming
38:03ahead.
38:05This was really
38:06a test for him,
38:07not so much
38:08just about winning,
38:09just getting through it
38:10and Ryan Bennett
38:12failing to do
38:12the fifth there
38:13but he's had
38:14a great night
38:15in what is
38:16one of his
38:17first ever
38:17big internationals.
38:20Stoltman though
38:21passes the test.
38:23So Foytu
38:23and Nanna
38:24next to take on
38:25the stones.
38:26Don't forget
38:26our podium result
38:27tonight.
38:28Whoever is top three
38:29will qualify
38:30for the world's
38:31strongest man finals.
38:34Nanna from Gano
38:34on the right,
38:35Foytu from the
38:36Czech Republic
38:36on the left
38:37looking really quick.
38:38Neither man
38:39exactly a giant
38:40in terms of height
38:41so these first few stones
38:42can be a problem
38:43and Nanna indeed
38:44clips the stone
38:46on the way up
38:46in the third.
38:47This will be
38:48something else
38:48if Foytu
38:49were to get this up.
38:50He could even
38:50beat Tom Stoltman.
38:52Well only half a point
38:53separates these men
38:54whoever wins this
38:55and I don't think
38:57it'll be Nanna.
38:57Well we will see
38:58Foytu
38:59in the finals.
39:03Nanna didn't hurt
39:04himself there
39:05he doesn't appear
39:05to have.
39:07He just went
39:08too quickly
39:09too early
39:09at the fifth stone
39:10when he needed
39:11just to regroup.
39:12He's had a bit
39:12of time now.
39:14Exhaustion kicks in
39:15of course.
39:16Well Evans
39:16now now managed
39:17four
39:17and may be injured.
39:21What an impressive
39:22run though
39:23by Foytu.
39:23He's really come
39:24face except for the
39:25tacky has stuck
39:26the t-shirt to his
39:28hand.
39:29That was the most
39:29disappointing t-shirt
39:30throw of all time.
39:32He needs to work
39:33on that.
39:35Well he's 23
39:36and he'll be in
39:38the World's
39:39Strongest Man
39:39Finals.
39:41On to Andrew
39:42Flynn and Luke
39:43Richardson.
39:46Final pair
39:47Richardson on the
39:47right.
39:48The man in the
39:49driving seat at the
39:50moment.
39:51Flynn on the left
39:51who's really
39:52attacking his own
39:53no.
39:54That's a bad error
39:55from Flynn.
39:56If it doesn't go
39:56in you've got to
39:57replace it and he's
39:58done that.
39:59He knows that.
40:00This is going to
40:00cost him heavy
40:01though.
40:03Richardson going
40:04through the motions
40:05here now.
40:06Just needs to put
40:07in a good performance
40:07and he will be the
40:08World Tour Finals
40:09champion.
40:10This would crown it
40:11off.
40:12Well here it is.
40:13The final stone
40:13for Luke the
40:15future Richardson
40:16and he does it.
40:1931.03 for Luke
40:21and look at this
40:21from Flynn after
40:23a disastrous start.
40:26I don't know about
40:26flying Flynn but
40:27fighting Flynn
40:28fighting back
40:29doing six stones
40:29in 38 and a half
40:30seconds.
40:31Impressive.
40:32Yes both men
40:33should feel pretty
40:35proud of themselves
40:35there.
40:36This is Richardson's
40:37fiance.
40:40Two titles he's
40:42taken this year.
40:42Europe's Strongest
40:43Man and now the
40:45World Tour Finals
40:45and Flynn podium
40:47one of the big ones.
40:51But it's all about
40:52this man.
40:53The future.
40:54He looks really
40:55solid from start
40:56to finish.
40:58No injuries.
40:59He'll be thrilled
40:59with that.
41:00There he is on top.
41:01He'd like to see
41:02that at World's
41:02Strongest Man.
41:03We'll have to wait
41:04and see.
41:04Foytu and Flynn
41:05round out the podium
41:06but look at Stoltman
41:07hiding a good
41:08performance by a man
41:10looking to get
41:10through this contest
41:11unscathed.
41:13Well tonight
41:13belongs to him.
41:15They call him the
41:16future.
41:17They might be right
41:18and he's with
41:19Radzi now.
41:21World Tour Finals
41:22Champion Luke
41:24Richardson.
41:24How does that
41:25sound?
41:26Yeah it sounds
41:26great.
41:27Yeah I feel really
41:27good.
41:28Body feels good.
41:29It would tough
41:29show that like
41:30I actually felt
41:31a bit better
41:32before Stones
41:32than I felt
41:33for event two
41:33I was flagging.
41:36But yeah
41:36job's done.
41:37Come here
41:37got my gold trophy
41:38go home
41:39see my dog
41:40spend some time
41:41with fiance Laura
41:41and my best
41:42mates
41:42and then back
