AccuWeather's Anna Azallion warns of heavy rainfall expected to cause dangerous flash flooding, mudslides and debris flows at burn scar areas across Southern California this week.
Transcript
00:00Heavy rainfall has already started in Southern California and we are expecting flooding in LA County, especially this kind of epicenter of the heaviest rainfall in Southern California specifically.
00:11Burn scar areas are especially at risk. Evacuation orders have already been put into effect. I mean, days ago, so people have already evacuated, which is great news.
00:20But expect flooding outside of the burn scar areas, too. I mean, overall in LA, we're talking four to eight inches of rain, which is about months worth of rain in just a couple of days.
00:32We're already on track to get the whole wet season amount of rain in just a couple of atmospheric river events.
00:38The rain continues the rest of the week, but it gets better in Southern California.
00:41The heaviest rainfall shifts back to the north, where, of course, we already have a lot of flash flooding.
00:46So that's just going to get worse. A couple of differences here. This next round is colder.
00:51So we're going to get more snow into the Sierra. So far, it's been rain. Now it's going to switch over to snow.
00:56This is going to have impacts for post-Christmas travel. If you're driving through Donner Pass, for example, or just any of the passes in the Sierra, we could see road closures here.
01:07The wind also continues through Thursday, but a lot of the strongest gusts are over.
01:11Still, a lot of power outages already Wednesday morning. That's just going to get worse, and it'll take some time to get everybody back online because of the continuing wind.
01:21Stay safe. And of course, a reminder, don't try to drive or walk through any flooded roadways. It is just never worth the risk.
