00:00This time on Rides Down Under,
00:29Aussie Truckers.
00:30We meet father and son trucking team, Rocky and Daniel Princey.
00:35Then head to Wandon Valley Farm to load freshly picked cherries and get them to market on
00:40time.
00:41Don drops into Pearlcraft to check out the custom interior parts for the 610 Kenworth
00:46Build.
00:47But first up, work continues at Diesel's Doctor as Nicole adds the silverback front
00:52flares to the newly named Golden Eagle.
00:59We're trying to design the back bump bar at the moment.
01:11We usually go for the one piece bump bar for the lights across.
01:15But once again, this is going at the outback, rough roads.
01:19So I've told Nicole what I want to design is separate pieces.
01:22So I don't want it to, but if something gets damaged, hit a roo, anything like that, doesn't
01:27matter what it is, we change section by section.
01:29So Nicole's come up with this little design down here, if you want to lift it up Nicole.
01:34The section of lights, we'll still drop it down a little bit, but this will be our section
01:40of a bump bar each side, so obviously they'll be uniformed on the other side.
01:44And we have the ice pack in the middle, which we'll shoot just a little bit.
01:48So we'll come up with another section here, so it'll be a three piece back bump bar.
01:53So anything happens, whatever, we can change whatever we want at the time.
01:58So one, two, three, but the designs are all different.
02:02So we've come up to design for each side.
02:05Now we can try to figure something for the middle.
02:07So I still like my lights, so we'll dress it up with lights and chrome and just see what
02:14Nicole comes up with.
02:15She's got to put her little thinking cap on and we'll go from there, eh?
02:19Yeah, that's the fun part.
02:21I've also designed the sidebars so that they don't sit out as far, so it's less likely
02:28that it's going to get hit.
02:30So, I mean, this is going to be a working truck.
02:33And that's my first and foremost, I want to make sure the drivers can access it and they
02:37can fix it on the side of the road if they need to.
02:40And it's just easy to maintain.
02:42I'm making polis my guts.
02:49So we don't have the poles that will come out.
02:51They'll dip down and they'll be attached to the chassis.
02:55So they really need to be very strong because they've got to withstand a lot of corrugated,
03:02rough roads, heavy loads, all of that stuff.
03:04So I've made it out of a 5mm thick 75 by 50 tube.
03:13I've got a 10mm plate which has been cut to measure exactly on the holes there.
03:18So that's going to sit, that will sit there like that.
03:31And then obviously the pole, which you won't see, which will come out here.
03:34So that comes straight down and the pole will come out at a 90 degree angle to the plate.
03:44I've made these flares to fit on the steers of the truck here.
03:58We are going to offset these wheels.
04:01So when they come out a little bit more, they're going to look really good.
04:04And that's why I wanted to go with this particular type of flare.
04:09When we put it on though, it just stuck out so far, this bit here, while it's alright
04:15at the front because it sort of aligns with the front bar, the back here just sort of stuck
04:20out.
04:21So just created a little stainless steel piece and it just fits perfectly.
04:26I actually really love how it turned out.
04:36Now, we've got a little bit of play so we can align it so that the two look the same
04:46and that their heights are the same as well.
04:52So, as this is one of Don's first new prime movies that he's ever got, we're really having
04:58a little bit of focus on making sure that we take good care of it, that we maintain and
05:03look after it.
05:04So one of the ideas that Don came up with, and because he also had it on his dad's truck,
05:09so it's a little bit nostalgic for him as well, is putting the perspex back in to protect
05:16the lights and from stone chips and stuff.
05:18So that'll be sitting in behind here, which we'll bolt in, we'll probably do, we'll probably
05:26tap in the screws.
05:27We'll have an aluminium border around the back so it looks like it's meant to be there.
05:32We'll frame the perspex using the aluminium, which we'll polish as well, obviously, to maintain
05:37the uniformity across the front bar.
05:40And that'll slide in there and then that will bolt onto the bar itself.
05:45You know what?
05:46It's pretty good.
05:47I can't have a plane.
05:48That's good.
05:49That's good.
05:50Here we go.
05:51Chin-ching.
05:52Salute!

07:07I'll wrap your 82-ником
07:08for a time later, but keep going.
07:09Thanks for coming this time.
07:10Support McHenry
07:19TCB and I, Donny there, and Maria and Jess, I've known them for, I couldn't even tell
07:31you how long.
07:32A long time.
07:33Donny's a bit of a character, so we have a bit of a banter between each other.
07:38Daniel's 15, my son Daniel's 15, and they've seen him pretty much born.
07:43Donny and Daniel, they get along like a house on fire.
07:47Daniel, one question, mate, what's the better looking truck, TCB or yours?
07:52Probably mine.
07:53S***!
07:54Yeah, it's really good to see how Daniel and Donny get along, and they have a bit of a banter
08:02between themselves.
08:04We're very close, you know, and I think we'll be close to the day we die.
08:11I work with Wondon Valley Farms, I'm a sixth generation of this family business that grows
08:17cherries in this region for over a hundred years in the Yarra Valley.
08:21We've grown cherries, plums, apples in this region for over a hundred years.
08:25The first documented cherry growing experience around here was in 1893 by, I think, my three
08:31times great-grandfather, Henry, and we've been growing cherries since then in the family.
08:36We've already had a couple of B-doubles in.
08:40They've come from the farm in Bowyer.
08:41They've already unloaded cherries and reloaded empty fruit bins to go back.
08:46We're empty at the moment, so we're going to set up for market for tonight and export.
08:50So what we've got to do is trucks, they run up to Bowyer.
08:53We do it early in the morning, so we're sort of loading about midnight, one o'clock in the
08:56morning is the best time.
08:58So we get the fruit here, say six, between six and seven.
09:02So these guys can put in a cool room.
09:04There's all different varieties, so then they know what they're packing for the day.
09:08So then if we run late and the packers are sitting here, well, they've got nothing to
09:13do.
09:14We've got to be here, so these guys are ready to rock and roll.
09:16So when the workers come in, there's fruit on the packing machine and they're ready to
09:19be packed.
09:20So when we come in with doubles, sometimes we come in singles, but the majority is B-doubles.
09:26We come in, we're back to that B-double up.
09:29Normally what we do is we unload the B-trailer first with fruit, load it up with empty bins,
09:33take it off the dock, disconnect it, put the A on, unload, reload, hook up the A-trailer
09:39back to the B.
09:40Just sort of go back to the yard and sort of park it up for the day and sort of start again
09:44at 10 o'clock at night and trucks go.
09:46It depends on what we're doing, what the season is.
09:49Normally during the day they're parked up a bit, but they work in the evening onwards and
09:53right through the night.
09:54Wondon Valley Farms is a family owned business.
09:58We have three, four orchards.
10:01We've been dealing with Rocky for a long time now.
10:03Rocky, we've grown together.
10:05Our businesses have both sort of developed over time and Rocky's, he's really looked after
10:10us.
10:11He values our product.
10:12He values us and making sure that he's doing the best thing by our fruit and delivering
10:19it in the best cool chain environment that's required.
10:24And also travelling at times, you know, that aren't always conducive, but making sure we've
10:29always got fruit here to pack and delivering it safely and coolly and in a timely fashion.
10:36He also takes our fruit into the market, to the airport.
10:40Today we've been carping cherries back from the farm where they grow them, bring them back
10:53to here, the sorting shed, and then we unload them.
10:56They take them into the cool room, load empty bins back onto the truck, and then we head
11:01up again tonight.
11:02Once you get to know it, you've still got to earn it a bit, but there's a lot of hills
11:08coming up in Dewwandan and tight driveways and tight loading docks.
11:13But once you know it, it all just becomes the second nature, so yeah, keeps it interesting.
11:19Yeah, just work for Princey in the harvest season, just keeps it pretty busy through then.
11:23Summer and, you know, part-time through when the hay's on as well, so I'll jump in there
11:28a bit and help out.
11:29Fruit, you've got to keep it temperature controlled.
11:31It all comes out of the cool room, so you've got to keep it, have the van bodies cool already.
11:38But as for that, it's pretty straightforward.
11:40As long as here on time, they're happy.
11:42Up on the full weight, sort of 62 tonnes, so yeah, so we're always going heavy.
11:47So what comes in here, we'll go into market tonight, or for export, see the fruit market
11:53out at Epping, and depending which export place they've chosen for the year, that's
11:58where we'll go, go overseas.
11:59Yeah, I've been driving trucks off for about 30 years, yeah.
12:02Just love it.
12:03Love the trucks.
12:04Love just getting out on the road and, you know, being with other mates, and yeah,
12:08it's good fun.
12:09We start last night, head up to the farm with a trailer load of empty bins, get up there,
12:13forklift's up there, and a forklift driver, and unload all the empty bins.
12:19Straight away, they're chucking the full bins out of the, and it's just been hand-picked that
12:24day.
12:25It's literally picked into the call room, straight into the truck.
12:29And then we bring them first thing in the morning here, they unload it, and they start
12:33packing it tonight.
12:34They've got a big crew up there, so imagine what it'd be like, you know, 40 degree a day,
12:37it'd be pretty hot stuck out in those trees.
12:39But they do a good job, all the hand-pickers, they just come in and smash it out.
12:42Well, I'll jump out and get on the fork and help them out, so it just makes the process
12:46quicker.
12:47I've been driving trucks for a little while around the farm, unhooking, re-hooking up
13:00trailers to trucks, and organising paperwork, and yeah, Dad lets me drive a bit around the
13:08yard or on the farm.
13:10I want to take over the show and run it, take it off Dad's hands.
13:15I'm 15, just about 16, yeah, just love doing it all the time and couldn't be around it
13:22anymore.
13:23So yeah, we needed to bring the B-doubles around, unhook the B, put the A on the dock,
13:28put the B on the dock, unload, reload, re-hook up the B-double, move that away, and then
13:34do it for the next B-double, and then the next one.
13:37They'll go all around Australia and some will even go overseas.
13:40We do a lot for this company, for Wanda Valley Farms.
13:43See a lot of drivers come around here and still think I could do it a bit better.
13:58Next we catch up with all the action for the 610 Kenworth build.
14:05Kenworth build.
14:12Jens' Equipment is a distributor for global leading brands such as BendPak, Sturtle Coney,
14:19Byers Bath.
14:20So we supply hoist lifting equipment, specialised testing equipment throughout Australia in all
14:26segments, whether it's a car dealership right the way through to a car enthusiast, or a truck
14:31dealership right the way through to truck enthusiast.
14:33The difference we see with the BendPak hoist is not just with the ergonomical technology
14:38that we use when we're operating the hoist and lifting the hoist, it's all about safety
14:42and longevity.
14:43We can put anyone under the hoist and we know they're safe.
14:46With the BendPak hoist, there's no complicated buttons to use.
14:50When we want the hoist to go up, we press the button.
14:52In return then when we want to lower the hoist down, it's just a matter of lifting a handle
14:56and that releases the safety locks.
14:58We just press the button and it steadily brings that car down.
15:04In our BendPak range, we have the two-poist hoist, which is very, very popular.
15:07But we do the four-poist hoist, and that's anything from a car to a truck in the four-poist range.
15:12So the versatility for whatever you're using in any type of application in a workshop,
15:17we've got the hoist there to accommodate that.
15:26So this week, we've got all hands on deck for this 610 SAR.
15:33We're trying to do a review on this weekend coming.
15:36I think we've got about three days to go, and I've got everyone here.
15:39I've got Nicole and her team, the diesel doctor.
15:41I've got the other side of the diesel doctor, the mechanics, trying to recreate exhaust systems here.
15:47I've got electricians here.
15:48I've got sign riders here.
15:49I've got everybody here trying to get this thing done.
15:52It's a special truck for us.
15:53It's a special edition.
15:54We've called it the Golden Eagle, hence why we've made another Eagle here, which is gold,
15:58not like the other trucks we have.
16:00Big shout-out to Exotic Graphics.
16:02I rang little Nick to get this Eagle done.
16:05I gave him one day.
16:07He thought I was a good joker, but I was pretty serious.
16:09And then, you know what?
16:10All credit.
16:11One day, he's done this design, printed this Eagle.
16:14I can't believe it.
16:15And it was someone's good idea to put a new exhaust on.
16:19I don't know who that was.
16:20It was probably me, which is coming out of a real headache.
16:23Brackets don't fit.
16:25So much modification to do.
16:27But, you know what?
16:28I've got to thank the guys from Silverback.
16:30They have come to the party and given me these exhaust systems.
16:34A nice chrome 8-inch exhaust.
16:37So the general ones are, I'll put that away to build a present day at the moment.
16:41They usually come in 5-inch.
16:43I want 8-inch straight up.
16:45So it's a bigger task than I thought.
16:47So this is really stressing me out at the moment.
16:49I'm not really sure this will get done.
16:51But we've got to work back.
16:53I have to get it done now.
16:55These trucks will go for this weekend.
16:57So this is a 610SAR.
16:58So the whole exhaust system is different to another conventional truck.
17:03So I've never seen it done on this particular model.
17:06So hopefully, fingers crossed, there's a doctor come up with the first system to fit this exhaust up.
17:12This is an 8-inch, as I said.
17:13It comes down to 5-inch.
17:15We've gone extra sizes.
17:16But it's everything.
17:18Modifying, dropping the exhaust system down below the cab.
17:21Because the 8-inch hits the actual cab.
17:23So we've got to drop it down.
17:25Redo the brackets.
17:26It's actually a little bit too short to fit the Y section.
17:29So we extend the Y section underneath the cabin.
17:32And then all the bracketry on the side of the cab.
17:35Completely different.
17:37Nothing suits.
17:38Nothing matches.
17:39Which is fine.
17:40But it's just all modifications.
17:42Hands full at the moment to do this.
17:44And hopefully it all works out.
17:51So these are the brackets that come with the truck.
17:54So these basically bolt onto the side of the cabin up there.
17:58So you can see the Dyneema is only 5-inch.
18:01Silverback.
18:02Good friends of mine.
18:03Come up with a 8-inch bracket.
18:05So that's the 8-inch.
18:07And that's what I want on the truck.
18:09You can tell the size difference.
18:11Once that's clamped up, we'll have the 8-inch exhaust.
18:14But it's not that easy.
18:16These holes here don't match these holes, for example.
18:20So we have a cut and shut that.
18:23Put that on the truck.
18:25Put the exhaust on.
18:27Go to the next bracket.
18:29The next bracket underneath the truck.
18:30So it is a task.
18:32I must admit, I don't usually get stressed out.
18:35But at the moment, I think the blood pressure's going right through the head here.
18:38And I don't know, we've got to get it done there.
18:40We can't come back there, because everything's apart.
18:42So we've just got to make this happen.
18:44But you know what?
18:45That's what we do, isn't it?
18:47Makes it fun.
18:52We've spent a lot of time and effort in this truck.
18:54Sionite is different to this one, where we've put all gold, 23-carat gold leaf.
18:58Sionite on this truck all over it.
19:00Put the Golden Eagle.
19:02So it's completely different to what we do for other standard TCB trucks.
19:07I've gone all out.
19:08Got things happening on the fuel tanks, the back bumpers, they're getting wrapped as well.
19:12Oh, so much.
19:13The steel wall hasn't come.
19:15The ear knob hasn't come.
19:16Nothing's coming yet.
19:17I've got a funny feeling everything's going to come in at once.
19:19It's just going to go bang, bang, bang.
19:21Hands on.
19:22Let's just do it.
19:23Get into it.
19:24We've got to make sure we do it right and safely too.
19:25Well, the pink stripe in this truck's a little bit different as well.
19:30As I said, it's all gold leaf.
19:32I've actually put the number 97 on the bonnet and people ask me why it's 97.
19:37So that's when TCB was established, 1997.
19:39So this is a special truck.
19:41Put 97 on it so people will know that's when we started and, you know,
19:45hopefully the next generation takes it through.
19:47After my time, who knows?
19:48And we'll just follow on.
19:50TCB taking care of business.
19:51Once this reveal will be gone up north,
19:53start doing road train work.
19:55But it's fitted out.
19:56I mean, driver comfort.
19:57It's got two fridges in it.
19:59TV, microwave, ice pack on it,
20:02which is a heater and air conditioner for the bunk, you know.
20:04I had none of that when I was driving.
20:06I had a window, heater, air conditioning.
20:09That was it, you know what I mean?
20:10So the driver's can't complain.
20:12Give them more comfort.
20:13They rest better.
20:14And they perform better during the day.
20:15So that's what it's all about.
20:17My choice of truck is Kenworth.
20:18I've always had good runs out of Kenworth.
20:20The reliability.
20:21It's just a man's truck.
20:23I just, that's my opinion only.
20:24It's a man's truck.
20:25And, you know,
20:26when you're sitting behind a badge or a Kenworth,
20:28you know you're driving.
20:29So that's the feel I like, driving.
20:31Yeah, so at this stage we're just going to go, go, go.
20:33And hopefully by the end of the week it's done
20:35and we have a good, nice reveal
20:37and hopefully everyone enjoys it.
20:38That's what it's all about.
20:39Other people enjoying the product we do
20:42and we all can share the love.
20:43It's great.
20:53Yeah, so this week's a really busy week for us.
20:55Apart from putting the 610 SAR on the road,
20:58the logistics side's very busy.
21:00I've got a friend of mine, Vinnie Raffa,
21:02with Raffa Fields.
21:03They're very big in asparagus.
21:05Just purchased 40 huts
21:07that take out of Footscray to Turridan
21:09in a short amount of time
21:11and we're really under the pump this week.
21:13This week's been absolutely full on
21:15from the delivery side
21:17to maintenance side
21:19to modification side.
21:21It's just crazy.
21:23Absolutely crazy this week.
21:24These huts are oversized.
21:25So they're 3 metres by 12 metres.
21:27So every load's oversized.
21:28There's 40 of them, as I said.
21:30So you've only got curfew times as well.
21:32So trying to throw as many trucks as we can on it
21:35because we only have a short amount of time to do it
21:37and hopefully the weather holds out as well.
21:39So if it rains, deep trouble
21:41because we can't get on on site
21:43and things like that.
21:44So that's the only thing in construction.
21:46Weather depending.
21:50Vinnie's a very good friend of mine
21:51and he asked for some help
21:52and I was gladly to give him some advice
21:55how to do it.
21:56And we jumped on board
21:57and went and did some site inspections
21:59and make sure it's all good
22:00and we're on our way.
22:01Yeah, so TCB and Desert Doctor this week
22:03is absolutely crazy
22:04but you know what?
22:05It pumps me up.
22:06That's what I like.
22:07It gives me adrenaline
22:08and, you know, we just do it.
22:18Coming up, we head to Pearl Craft
22:20and get a look at the new interior pieces
22:22for the 610 can work.
22:30Hi, I'm Colin.
22:31If you're looking for tyres,
22:32mechanical service
22:33or just general advice,
22:34come on down to Moonee Pines Tyres.
22:36We offer a full range of servicing
22:37from tyres to brakes
22:39to all sorts of general mechanical repairs.
22:41Every vehicle will get an inspection
22:43to make sure the vehicle is safe.
22:45In terms of tyres,
22:46we do a large range of tyres
22:47from the smallest lawnmower tyre
22:49right the way up to the largest earthmover tyre.
22:51We do wheel alignments.
22:52We do batteries.
22:53Any time you need any tyres,
22:55just come and see us.
23:16So this morning we're at Pearl Craft in Pakenham.
23:18Come and see good friends of mine,
23:19Pat and Sam.
23:20They've got a little project for me
23:22that they're doing on the 610SAR.
23:24So I'm really excited to see the progress.
23:26TCB and Diesel Doctrine and Pearl Craft,
23:28we all team up
23:29and we help each other out.
23:30So I'll give them referrals.
23:31They give me referrals
23:32and I like their product.
23:33It's absolutely brilliant.
23:34I put them right through all my equipment.
23:37So it just gives that shine, cool look.
23:46So down at Pearl Craft, as you know,
23:47I found Pat.
23:48He was pretending to hide down the back there.
23:49Pretend to be busy,
23:50but I don't think he was doing anything at all.
23:52So come and check up on my gear, Pat.
23:54How you going, mate?
23:55Yeah, good mate. Self.
23:56I'm putting the pressure on,
23:57but I've become uniformed, Pat.
23:58I'm wearing your hat soon.
23:59Good man, good man.
24:00I'm sure he's making me pay for this
24:01somewhere along the line.
24:02I'm telling you.
24:03It's good.
24:06So Pat's gonna show us around today
24:07and give us a bit of a tour of what he does
24:09and how he does it.
24:10Don, we're doing the steering wheel.
24:12We're doing the rails.
24:13So the 610 has the four rails,
24:14front and back of the cab.
24:16And we're also doing the Eaton extension.
24:19Eaton and the extension
24:20and the base cover on the floor.
24:22All in velvet red.
24:23And we'll give you a bit of a rundown
24:24of what we do, but yeah.
24:25How we do it's kind of been a secret
24:26for a long time.
24:27But we'll be able to show you
24:28some sort of before and afters.
24:29And yeah.
24:30That's why they call them the kernel.
24:32That's it.
24:45All right.
24:46So we've got the rails here.
24:47They're just getting to the stage
24:48of getting ready to polish.
24:49All the heavy lifting's done.
24:51And now we're getting to the polishing
24:52and clear coating of the rails.
24:54Sweet.
24:55So how does it all happen?
24:57Obviously I gave this bare plastic material wasn't it?
25:00Yep.
25:01These are metals.
25:02So then we prep it all.
25:03Ready for us for our application.
25:04And then it's a hand applied resin
25:05that encapsulates the rails.
25:07Then you polish it up.
25:08Polish it up.
25:09Yeah.
25:10Very durable.
25:11So once these are done,
25:12they'll be done forever.
25:13There's obviously a lot more stuff though.
25:14There's the steering wheel
25:15and other equipment.
25:16The gear knob and...
25:17Yeah.
25:18So that's right.
25:19So traditionally it's the steering wheels.
25:20But obviously the add-on is
25:21the rails, the extensions.
25:23We have done dash panels.
25:24But yeah.
25:25So what room is this?
25:26We call this our spray room
25:27since we do the clear coating
25:28and what not as well.
25:29We're going to build another room
25:30over the other side
25:31which we'll get into later
25:32which is going to be for our resin room.
25:34We're working with resins.
25:35I've got coal in my ear here.
25:37This is padded pie.
25:38So...
25:39Once we're cooking our lunch.
25:40Lunch?
25:41Yeah, lunch will be on.
25:42Hopefully lunch is ready
25:43and we'll have a good feed here.
25:44What do you reckon Pat?
25:45Definitely.
25:46Alright mate.
25:47Good chance.
25:54Jock, we're getting into polishing these up.
25:56You're getting into polishing these up today.
25:57Beautiful.
25:58Get them ready for Alex
25:59and they'll sparkle.
26:00They will.
26:01Great product.
26:02Anyone who needs anything done,
26:03steering wheels,
26:04grab handles,
26:06extensions,
26:07extensions whatever,
26:08Eatons.
26:09See you down at Pakenham,
26:10Pearl Craft.
26:11See Pat
26:12or his lovely wife,
26:13Sammy.
26:14She's probably the better half
26:15of the relationship I gather
26:16and go from there, eh?
26:17Yep.
26:18For sure.
26:19Beautiful.
26:28At Pearl Craft,
26:29we're specialising in customising
26:30car and truck steering wheels.
26:32Rails, grab rails for trucks.
26:33We do extensions for cars.
26:35We do the dash knobs,
26:36window winding knobs,
26:37things like that.
26:38The wheels are the main piece.
26:39And then we branch out into
26:40sort of your accessories as well.
26:42So Pearl Craft actually began
26:43back in the 40s
26:44by a gentleman named Bill Clark.
26:46Used to be called Clark's Plastics
26:47back then.
26:48He had a shop down in
26:49Mount Alexandra Road
26:50in Flemington.
26:51He ran that up until
26:52in his mid 70s
26:54where another gentleman
26:55called Wayne Buszynski
26:56bought that off him.
26:57And then Wayne took that over
26:59and kept running that for a while.
27:00We ended up buying that off him
27:02about 10 years ago.
27:03So when we first started
27:0410 years ago
27:05when we purchased the business,
27:06myself and my wife Samantha
27:07both had day jobs
27:08so we did this as kind of a side hustle.
27:10We did that for about two years
27:11working two jobs
27:12and then she went out
27:13and did this full time on her own.
27:14So she carried the workload
27:15for about three years after that.
27:17And then we just got too busy
27:18and I stepped out of my day job
27:20to take over full time as well.
27:21So I started off in a residential workshop
27:23and then on to bigger and better things
27:25moved into a factory down here.
27:26So we're located out in Packetham
27:27which is a really good area
27:28for industrial areas, yeah.
27:30The business is sort of split into two halves.
27:31So you've got your classic custom cars.
27:33So anything from your 20s up into the 60s.
27:35So we will take off that particular style of wheel.
27:38We would take the customer's wheel.
27:40We will restore that wheel,
27:41fix up any cracks,
27:42rebuild what we need to rebuild and fix
27:44and then apply our plasticised resin over the top.
27:46So it's coating that encapsulates the wheel.
27:48We started doing work for Don many, many years ago
27:50when I was working my daytime job as well.
27:52So we've had a long term relationship with Don.
27:55And over the years we've grown that relationship
27:57into what it is today and become mates.
28:00Keeps me busy that's for sure.
28:04It's a hand applied resin
28:06and the process itself, the bones of the process
28:09hasn't really changed over the 80 years.
28:12It's become more show quality.
28:14So more clear coats, more presentable.
28:17Back in the day when Barkey was first doing wheels
28:20it was more of a hygiene thing.
28:22So the old Bakelite truck drivers
28:24would get black hands from the Bakelite.
28:25So the pearl coat or the pearl resin
28:28would stop that from happening.
28:33We like to evolve the business
28:34and continue to grow and try new things.
28:36So we're actually now making our own truck steering wheel.
28:39So your classic four spoke wheel.
28:41So we have the frames made here in Australia.
28:43They either go off to get chrome or gold plated,
28:45come back to us
28:46and then we resin on a solid resin rim onto that frame.
28:49And then there's a lot of work polishing,
28:51bringing that up to a completed finish.
28:53So the benefits for that is
28:54it doesn't have to be a pearl steering wheel
28:56but the big benefit is it's a solid resin
28:58so that wheel won't wear off.
29:00Solid resin all the way down to the core.
29:02So that way we can do translucent colours, blues, reds,
29:05whatever you want to sort of go in that range of colours.
29:08Or we can do solid colours.
29:09We're going to work on a wood grain finish,
29:10so a resin wood grain.
29:12So give it that wood grain look
29:13to blend into the dash panels and whatever else.
29:15Next, young Daniel Princey is cutting and baling hay in Gembrook.
29:29So today we've come down to Gembrook
29:45and we're mowing, raking and baling 50 odd acres.
29:50I did all the mowing by myself.
29:52I did a job on a John Deere 8 320 with a set of class triples.
29:57Where the farm we're at today, it's not very flat ground.
30:00It's on a fair bit of a hill.
30:02Just got to be careful when you're mowing and baling it.
30:04We've got two sets of triples and two big square balers
30:07and I've been driving the big square since I was about seven years old.
30:11Always growing up around it.
30:13Yeah, not many people can do it and it does take a special skill.
30:17Yeah, so the farm's like on a hill and then it's got like a second hill.
30:21There's a fair few different angles, so like an angle, angle.
30:25And when you're mowing it, sometimes the mowers like drag you to the side
30:29so you can miss like little hairs or when you're baling it,
30:33you just got to be careful so you don't roll the baler.
30:36So no balers go for a wander into the creek.
30:39A set of triple mowers there, nine metres wide.
30:42So you can cut a fair bit of ground with that.
30:44And then our rake is another nine metres and puts it into a wind rake.
30:50And then our baler comes in and bales it up and leaves it in rounds.
30:54Or we've also got, we've got two round balers, two big square balers,
30:58so that leaves them in big squares and we've got a little small square baler.
31:01Look, it's a bit steep, nothing to really stress about, but there's a bit of steepness to it.
31:08It's a bit bumpy.
31:09They used to grow spuds here years ago, so it's still got a bit of rucks in it.
31:13So yeah, just when you're baling it, you've just got to be on your game
31:17so you don't lose bales down the hill in the creek.
31:20I mean, today's alright.
31:22But sometimes they'll run away, jump fences.
31:32Yeah, so Daniel came by himself, he mowed it.
31:34He knows what to do, he's done it for a long time.
31:36I know he's done little, but he's been doing it for quite a while.
31:40And so Daniel came up and mowed it for us with the John Deere and the triples.
31:44So they're conditioned, so we cut and we condition the grass.
31:48This has mergers, so we could actually merge the grass into a windrow
31:53or we just cut and drop, which Daniel did and we came with the rake and raked it up.
31:57Like any farm kid, boy or girl, they're pretty capable, you know.
32:02Either they're cropping or they're hay production or they're dairy farm or whatever.
32:07They're pretty on it, you know.
32:10And safety, they're onto the safety side of it.
32:13Like I'm sure their parents, and the same as myself,
32:16they really push the safety side because it's dangerous.
32:19So yeah, so look, he's good.
32:22But like I said, there's, I think any agricultural, anyone in ag that's growers,
32:29you know, from livestock to cropping, I think their sons and daughters would do what Daniel does.
32:35You can't bale hay with lots and, like, a heap of moisture because it'll go mouldy.
32:42And the bales will catch on fire because they'll combust and they will catch on fire.
32:47So you've got to be in that 12 to 15 percent moisture mark, which it was.
32:52It was on that sort of 12 percent.
32:54Yeah, you've just got to cut it.
32:55Sometimes it takes three, four days.
32:56Sometimes it takes a week to dry out.
32:58This one took, you know, a day or two.
33:00And then, yeah, rake it and bale it in straight away.
33:03Yeah, just trying to get in and get out quick.
33:05You know, otherwise two bales is better than one, you know what I mean?
33:07So you sort of get to the next drive or go home, you know,
33:10because it gets too hot, you can't bale either.
33:13They can catch on fire.
33:14So yeah, so just, you know, teamwork, I suppose.
33:18So we do a lot of our own crops and then we also contract out.
33:23We do a lot sort of through the rim around the mallee.
33:26So we've got two crown high density balers, six stringers.
33:29So we do a lot of large squares, vetch, cereal, hay and whatnot.
33:34We run two sets of triples.
33:36So when we cut in crops down, you sort of got a small window to cut.
33:40It's only a real small window to do it.
33:42So if we're doing vetch,
33:44so this is sort of pods, start seeding where you've got to cut.
33:48Otherwise, vetch is grown for nitrogen in the soil.
33:52So it puts nitrogen in the soil.
33:54So if it pods and grows seed,
33:56it pulls all the nitrogen back out of the soil.
33:58So it defeats the purpose.
34:00So you've got to go in and cut.
34:02But everyone plants at the same time.
34:04So if you've got, say, three or four customers
34:06and they want, you know, three, four thousand acres done,
34:09well, it's only a real small window.
34:11So we run two triples.
34:13We can get in and get out real quick.
34:15And with the balers, once it's ready to go,
34:17the crop's ready to go,
34:18we're just trying to bale what we can
34:20because it has to be 15% moisture.
34:25You know, there's not much variation in big squares,
34:27because they will catch on fire.
34:29So sometimes we might only have a two-hour window
34:32all day to bale.
34:34So, you know, we've got two balers
34:36and we can do a fair bit with them, you know.
34:39And the rounds, look, the rounds are pretty forgiven.
34:41You know, you can go probably 18% moisture, like no issue.
34:45But, yeah, we do a bit of cereal hay with them or vetch,
34:48but mainly just pasture grass, you know.
34:51So we've got quite a few customers
34:52and just happy to take it for their horses
34:54and a few cattle and whatnot.
34:56So, yeah.
34:57The day drags out, you know what I mean?
34:59So, you know, they're air-conditioned calves
35:01and it's all good.
35:03You know, it's pretty comfy.
35:04But at the end of the day, I mean,
35:06you know, you don't want to sit in them all day
35:08nor night either, you know.
35:09If you have to, you will.
35:10There's no issue.
35:11But in the same token, you know,
35:13we can do something else after this, you know.
35:15No, no, really good.
35:16I'm happy with the hay.
35:17Like, you know, it's not too bad.
35:20A little bit light on.
35:21I thought it would have been a bit more, but that's okay.
35:23We can't get any trucks in here.
35:24Like, the driveway's too narrow.
35:27It's a bit of a goat track.
35:29So we're going to have to take them out
35:31to the top of the hill where the road is
35:34and just load them off the road.
35:35So it's going to be a little bit of a process too.
35:37Good process for Daniel.
35:39Oh, gee, I think we've got 64.
35:42Nah, 74, I think it was.
35:45And I think the other one was about 70, 75.
35:48It's 150 bales.
35:50It's not too bad.
35:51It's not too bad.
35:52Where there's good rainfall, like here,
35:54we should get eight to 10 bales an acre, you know.
35:58You should get eight bales an acre.
36:02So the bales we got out today,
36:04they can do multiple size bales.
36:07But today we're baling five foot bales.
36:10With approximately 350 kilos each bale.
36:13It's a fair bit of a drop.
36:15So you just need to be careful.
36:16Because, yeah, if a bale starts rolling,
36:19there's no stopping that.
36:20The tractor getting into the paddock was pretty narrow.
36:23A couple of sharp bends and just fit the bales and mowers
36:27and right down there, millimetres to spare.
36:30It's 38 degrees today and just got to be careful.
36:33Make sure the grills and radiators are clean on the tractors
36:36so they don't overheat.
36:38So you obviously have air con.
36:40Coming up, head mechanic Jesse from Diesel Doctor
36:54has his hands full of blown engines from the TCB slink of 65 trucks.
37:00We have the engine that blown this year,
37:15and unfortunately this is not repairable because, as you notice it,
37:21you've got two holes on both sides of the engine block.
37:24In the last couple of months we've been servicing the trucks
37:28and we've had a bit of bad luck.
37:30A few engines have come in that shouldn't sound how they should
37:33so we just pull them apart, give them a fresh rebuild
37:36and put them back on the road.
37:38But it's not one or two, it's a few.
37:40So just get them done.
37:42That's what keeps the boys busy.
37:43They get them in and out, rebuild them,
37:45and get them back on the road.
37:47In this industry, what we're in, it's just the way it is.
37:50The boys do big kilometres.
37:51They work hard.
37:53And it just happens.
37:55What do you do?
37:56It's just part of the game.
37:57It's not nice but it is what it is
37:59and everyone's on the same boat.
38:01They do what we do, transport.
38:02So when the kilometres come up, that's what happens.
38:05Things happen.
38:06They break down.
38:07They just turn to s***, really.
38:10There's all sorts of reasons why these things go.
38:12Could be kilometres, they're doing so many kilometres,
38:15or just pure bad luck.
38:16We've got one just sitting beside me here,
38:18piston went straight through the block,
38:20it's got a hole that that big
38:21and that's probably the third one that's happened.
38:23We maintain them.
38:24We service them.
38:25We tune them.
38:26We try to do all the right things.
38:27But unfortunately, they break down.
38:29So that's the way it is.
38:31So I've got a 108 I'm doing up as well.
38:39It's been sitting there.
38:40So I decided to jump back on that
38:42and dress it up how we want.
38:44Put it on the road.
38:45That way it makes operations,
38:46the job a little bit easier.
38:47More trucks on the road, more freight we cart
38:49and that's the name of the game.
38:50This truck here, we're not going overboard.
38:52It is a work truck and it will work up north as well.
38:55So we just want to dress it up, make it look pretty,
38:58but put it on the road and get it happening.
39:00We've still got to make a TCB truck, don't we?
39:02So it's going to have lights on it
39:04and this particular truck,
39:05I decided to go a little bit excited over the exhaust.
39:08So I put nice 10-inch fat pipes on it
39:11and black as well.
39:12So that'll make it stand out its own personality
39:14and that's what we want.
39:15We want every truck we do have its own personality.
39:18Even though it's got a TCB brand on it,
39:20but it has its own character.
39:21So Nicole will be busy working on that one
39:23and every other truck here I suppose with the mechanics.
39:25So the good thing is they all work together,
39:27they all communicate.
39:28So one thing leads to another
39:30and they all put in, get the truck on the road.
39:36This is the Campy Pistol Grip.
39:38I don't really think it's something that I will use,
39:41but I like the fact that I have the option.
39:43I'm pretty sure it just glides in here somewhere.
39:47It's ghostly.
39:49So the hook's on underneath it, the screw there.
39:53Just click straight on.
39:54You've got all that weight that you would have typically
39:57on your wrist here.
39:58All much more ergonomic through your arm
40:00and of course you've got the neck you can rotate to
40:03to whatever position you would like.
40:05I've got a toolbox here.
40:06I've just got to finish welding it up.
40:08It's going to get put on the side of a truck.
40:10We're always needing toolboxes.
40:12I'm just ready to weld the top end on
40:14and then we're going to put the front angles on as well
40:18so I can then put a roof on it.
40:21I want to MIG it together
40:22because so far I've been using the TIG
40:25and it's a very slow process.
40:27I feel like I'm going to get so many more toolboxes done now.
40:30I've got this MIG alley ready to go.
40:32So we're going to weld up this toolbox
40:34but I think before we do it I'd like to do a few dry runs.
40:37I always like to do dry runs because the metal is always different.
40:41The temperature is always different.
40:43There's always...
40:44So I just like to make sure I know what my run's going to look like.
40:47So I always like to do a dry run before I actually start on my actual piece.
40:52Especially for something like a toolbox
40:54where it's going to be visible for everyone to see every day
40:56when it's out on the truck.
40:57So always best to set the machine up first.
40:59Yeah, no pressure.
41:01So Genesis Equipment, we're a company that provides solutions to most workshops.
41:10We're a distributor for leading brands,
41:12Benpak, Sturl & Coney and Barspath Equipment.
41:14So anything inside a workshop,
41:16we will provide our customers the solution for their needs.
41:20And that can be anything from vehicle lift
41:22to specialised testing equipment for wheel equipment.
41:25Even right away across the broad range of workshop small equipment,
41:29what we call small assets in presses, benches, parts, washes, etc.
41:33We also offer solutions for turnkey solutions.
41:36So if a customer is going to be building a brand's new workshop,
41:39then we can help with that process straight from the staff,
41:43straight from the drawing plans, you know,
41:45and how the workshop can be laid out and the efficiency running the workshops
41:48to the best equipment to operate for all of their mechanics
41:51that are working on the vehicles,
41:54whether it's a motor vehicle, a motorbike, a big truck,
41:58or even a train.
42:00You know, we work in all of that space.
42:02So our main warehouse facility, our distribution centre,
42:05is based here in south-east Queensland, in Yatla,
42:08which is basically in the middle of Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
42:11And we distribute right away through Australia-wide.
42:14All of the equipment, all of the top brands that we do.
42:17So in effect, we ship all of the products,
42:19whether it's coming from America, from Benpak,
42:22or Sturtle Coney in Europe, or Buysbath in Europe,
42:26those products will come into our factory here in Yatla,
42:29and we will store them here.
42:30And we will then distribute them out to all of the states in Australia,
42:35no matter where the customer is based in Australia.
42:37That could be regional or obviously metro areas.
42:42So every bit of equipment that you see within our warehouse here,
42:46all goes through Australian compliance.
42:48To break it down for a workshop that has a vehicle lift,
42:51it's very tight safety factors that we've got to comply for
42:55the Australian standards.
42:56So every one of these equipments will get tested
43:00for what we call Australian design registration purposes.
43:03So we know that when that vehicle hoist goes out to our customer,
43:07it's not only a great product and it's reliable and we have longevity,
43:10but it meets all of the safety factors for Australia.
43:13So anyone then that's operating this equipment
43:16can feel assured they're very, very safe.
