01:39observing these military ships so what exactly was going on oh my god if an airplane was cruising
01:53around in the area that was unidentified and they couldn't establish communication with the pilot then

02:41Fravor would go on record to say he believes that what he saw that day was not from this world

03:55I can't go beyond what I've already stated publicly
03:57the government is not prepared
03:59are we being mapped?
04:05when people think of California they often picture ethereal mountains
04:10breathtaking ocean vistas and mystical deserts
04:14yet the golden state also harbors an unsettling connection to the unexplained
04:21there's no doubt that the state of California is rich in stories and accounts of paranormal experiences
04:31of UFO sightings and these are accounts corroborated by government officials
04:38experts and even scientists
04:41it is one of the places on earth that's really a hub for astronomical research
04:45there are a number of universities there that are all looking to solve some of the greatest mysteries in outer space
04:51and so today a lot of really important research is being done there to try and understand our universe better
04:56that area is sort of primed for people seeing weird things because it's California
05:01since 2001 there's been something like 15,000 UFO sightings
05:07among these hotspots is a picturesque island nestled in an archipelago
05:16located in the Gulf of Santa Catalina known as Catalina Island
05:21the Channel Islands is an island archipelago
05:26which is located in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Southern California
05:32this is really an idyllic picture perfect destination
05:36you've got pristine beaches
05:39you've got the beautiful flora and fauna and crystalline waters
05:44but what you also have is a lot of UFO sightings
05:48Catalina Island's history is rife with odd occurrences
05:54that some claim point to evidence of interstellar visitors to the region
05:58the range of places where there have been UFO sightings in California is simply incredible
06:06it includes the Mojave Desert, the city of Los Angeles
06:11one amazing event in UFO history is of course the Battle of LA
06:16which takes place in 1942
06:18a few hours before dawn on February 25th 1942
06:24a truly inexplicable event is about to unfold
06:29famously dubbed the Battle of Los Angeles
06:32the incident will endure as one of the most enigmatic chapters in the Golden State's history
06:39what you have to remember is that the war was on
06:43and the Japanese with the bombing of Pearl Harbor
06:46showed that they could reach further than you would expect
06:48because they weren't planning to come back
06:50and with other things happening
06:53the submarine that had recently been sighted in the area
06:57there's a lot of concerns
06:58that the war was going to be brought to mainland US
07:02so there was a heightened alert at the time
07:05what we know is that a military radar spotted an object
07:11about 120 miles west of Los Angeles
07:14at 1.30 in the morning on February the 25th 1942
07:19fearing that this could signal an unexpected Japanese assault on the west coast of America
07:27the US Army puts its anti-aircraft batteries around the Los Angeles area on high alert
07:33just after 2 a.m. a city-wide blackout is ordered
07:37shortly afterwards the unidentified target simply vanishes from the radar
07:43but that doesn't stop the ensuing chaos
07:50just after 3 a.m. several accounts from local residents
07:54report a large object over Santa Monica airspace
07:58triggering an artillery bombardment
08:01as the military lights up the sky over Los Angeles
08:03somebody gives the signal to basically start firing
08:09they start firing their anti-aircraft weapons
08:11guns just blazing away in the night
08:15the military was shooting at something that they couldn't really see
08:18they weren't sure that anything was there at all really
08:20you have to imagine that the city is experiencing this
08:25ear-splitting noise of bombardment by the US military
08:30but when the smoke clears
08:32there's nothing there
08:34nothing's been brought down
08:36nothing is in the skies
08:38there's no enemy
08:39there's nothing at all
08:41the story takes an even stranger turn
08:45when it's revealed by the authorities
08:47that there was perhaps never a threat at all
08:50or at least not one of earthly origin
08:53it becomes a mystery
08:56people love mysteries
08:57people love talking about mysteries
08:59and coming up with ideas behind it
09:01and you get into this mass story
09:04that is written together by people
09:06that now has focused on maybe it was alien
09:09it's not until 1947 that the you know modern era of UFOs kind of begins and people start seeing flying saucers in the sky and so it's it's years later when people actually connect the battle for LA to the UFO phenomenon
09:25it's fascinating the way that interest in UFOs goes through cycles
09:31peaks and troughs for whatever reason
09:35and undoubtedly in the second world war it was not primary interest
09:37but if we fast forward to the 1950s the 1970s the 1970s the 1990s people are really focused and fixated on the extraterrestrial and they begin to look at events not only in the present but in the past wondering if the real reason for those events was intervention by forces from beyond planet earth
09:44Across the nation research has found a consistent link between areas of military operation and public reports of UFOs
10:05One popular theory to explain UFO sightings is to connect them to military bases and conflicts
10:22Yes a number of military bases in California I believe it's around 30 31 or 32 all services Navy Marines Air Force
10:34Although UFOologists may be eager to jump to otherworldly explanations
10:39the answer to some of these mysteries could reside not only within the confines of our planet but even within US borders
10:49California has 32 military bases this means there's going to be a lot of aircraft activity and where you have a lot of military bases around you have the potential for people to
11:01interpret new technologies as being UFOs
11:06In the period before the announcement of the B-2 stealth bomber's existence comes to society
11:14people are actually likely seeing this aircraft and interpreting it as a UFO because they don't have any context for how something in this shape and this color could possibly be man-made
11:26While it is possible that some of these mysterious circumstances could be explained by the testing of new military technology
11:33Other possible theories involve the paranormal and the parascientific
11:39It has been said that the sightings around these military sites are attributed to these otherworldly beings who are curious about the way we handle our conflicts
11:51This has been floated as a theory for the Battle of Los Angeles
11:56Aliens who could travel interstellar distances and survive space being knocked down by some 1942 anti-aircraft guns
12:06If not having any wreckage there to show for it, it's hard to believe it was enemy action
12:11What caused it? We won't know
12:15A lot of the sightings tend to be around military activity and one argument has always been that well that's because it's actually military activity and you're misrepresenting it
12:25But some of the other arguments have been put out there is that the aliens are trying to see what capabilities we humans have
12:32Almost 20 years after the Nimitz encounter with the so-called Tic Tac UFO
12:38The US government still hasn't provided any explanation
12:42Let's remember that these reports were coming from trained and experienced fighter pilots
12:49And therefore had to be taken a lot more seriously
12:52Typically a UFO sighting is made by civilians
12:56This is very different because we have a number of highly trained professionals who are very used to seeing things in the sky
13:04That's their job, frankly
13:06And so to get this kind of very detailed report and physical evidence on radar and otherwise is very unusual
13:13It just makes it all that much more credible
13:16One thing that's remarkable about this sighting is that the government very clearly acknowledged that they don't know what this is
13:23And that's very unusual
13:26Governments, especially those with UFO investigation units are very, very hesitant about admitting much of anything
13:34But especially that they simply don't know what's going on
13:37When the US military went public about the Nimitz incident
13:41They did acknowledge that there was no way that the craft involved that was making all these strange movements
13:49And going at great speed, great altitude
13:52Could have been something that the Soviet Union or China could have developed at that time
13:58If this wasn't China, if this wasn't Russia, if this wasn't a US military craft
14:08Then what could it have been?
14:10Doesn't leave many options
14:12What are we talking about with the Nimitz incident?
14:16Very likely, very possibly
14:19A UFO
14:26In May of 2019
14:28A team of scientists published a paper investigating several UFOs
14:33Including the Nimitz encounter
14:35These sightings reported encounters with aircraft exhibiting impossible flight characteristics
14:42The paper concluded that these high-profile sightings were down to either being false claims, errors, or from technology that was far more advanced than what we have on Earth
14:57The authors of the paper suggested that the UFOs and technologies recorded could potentially be of interstellar origin
15:06The Navy possesses some pretty impressive binoculars and telescopes to see objects at a great distance
15:14If the Navy did the investigation, I'm kind of surprised that they didn't have a much more detailed explanation as to what exactly they were looking at
15:23Since the Battle of Los Angeles and the Nimitz encounter
15:29The Channel Islands have remained an area with a startling trend of UFO reports
15:35In 2019, a further disturbing incident involving UFOs and US warships prompted an investigation involving the US Navy, Coast Guard, and FBI
15:47With credible accounts like the Nimitz encounter on record
15:53And countless anecdotal sightings in this UFO hotspot
15:57The new reports of UFOs hovering and flying near Navy vessels in the Channel Islands were given high priority
16:09The video footage from the 2019 sightings is a little unique
16:12There's a couple different kinds
16:14The first one is a little more conventional
16:16It's an unidentified craft, of course, with lights on it
16:20That makes certain movements that might fit in well with the UFO lore
16:25But there's another video that I find more particularly interesting
16:29Of some kind of spherical object
16:31That is in the air and then descends directly into the water
16:35And it descends in a way that appears like it's not really trying to hide itself
16:44Often UFOs are very hard to track, very hard to photograph and take video of because of their erratic movements
16:50But this doesn't quite do that
16:52It descends pretty uniformly into the water
16:55The 2019 incident involving the amphibious UFO
17:00Sparked a sweeping high-level probe into what was going on
17:04Unlike the Tic Tac
17:06It wasn't the speed of the craft which intrigued observers
17:09But rather its behavioral characteristics
17:13This is really unusual
17:16To have a radar signature
17:18To move in an unusual manner
17:20And to descend into the ocean
17:22And then not be detected thereafter
17:24This isn't something that man-made things normally do
17:28The drone speed at 45 miles an hour
17:30Absolutely
17:31Modern drones can reach those speeds
17:33As to the range of 100 miles
17:36That is unusual
17:37That's weird
17:38If we have really slow-moving devices around military aircraft
17:45Or even military installations
17:47The first thing that comes to mind is that it's some type of surveillance
17:51And, you know, when we think about what foreign bodies or even corporations will want to do
17:58Sometimes for nefarious reasons
18:01Sometimes for, you know, bona fide reasons
18:04Is to move aircraft very slow
18:07And map the surface of the earth
18:09Or investigate what's going on at ground level
18:12It has been posited
18:14That some of these unexplained encounters
18:16Between military and unidentified flying objects
18:19Could be directly hostile
18:21Rather than simply wayward or observational
18:26One of the things that we don't always think about
18:29When we think about UFOs
18:31Is that it may simply be foreign technology
18:33So where we have a UFO
18:35It may just be another country testing a device
18:39Or even spying
18:40What comes to my mind is
18:42The recent use of balloons by China
18:45Flying over the US
18:47To capture images
18:49So foreign players
18:51Whether they be countries
18:53Or even corporations
18:54May be developing and deploying devices
18:57That are intended to spy on people around the world
19:01And some of these devices
19:03May be interpreted as being UFOs
19:06There's no doubt that we can be a very warlike
19:09Aggressive, violent species
19:12And for that reason alone
19:14I think that extraterrestrials
19:16Will be very interested in studying us
19:19Studying our damaged psyche
19:21Trying to work out what it is
19:23That makes us so murderous

19:34Lies the town of 29 Palms
19:37A city in San Bernardino County, California
19:40Which serves as one of the entry points
19:42To Joshua Tree National Park
19:45And the Mojave Desert
19:50The stories coming out of the town of 29 Palms
19:52Are interesting
19:53I think mostly because of its proximity
19:55To the infamous site Area 51
19:58And most people who know anything about the UFO literature
20:01Will recognize that of course
20:03As a secret military installation
20:06In really the site of all kinds of strange stories
20:10Aliens of various kinds
20:13All kinds of sightings
20:14All kinds of things that are not explained

20:30More than 50 eyewitnesses
20:32Observe the 10 minute event
20:34Describing a triangular formation of lights
20:37As high as a 2 story house
20:39You can see like an outline or something

20:45It hovers over the US Marine Corps
20:50Air Ground Combat Center
20:51For about 9 minutes
20:53But when marines start firing flares at it
20:56It disappears
20:57Just before they get close enough
20:59To expose the mysterious craft

21:06The UFO sighting at 29 Palms
21:09Is remarkably similar
21:12To the 1997 incident in Phoenix
21:16It looks very similar
21:18It sounds very similar
21:20The accounts are remarkably similar
21:23Initially
21:25The US Air Force
21:26Explained the March 1997 Phoenix
21:28Phoenix Lights in Arizona
21:30As flares dropped
21:31During a military training exercise
21:33However
21:35Skeptics argue
21:36That what they saw
21:37Did not exhibit the behaviour
21:39Of typical flares
21:41The sighting at 29 Palms
21:43Elicits a similar response
21:45Given that the craft seen at Phoenix in 97
21:49And the one seen at 29 Palms in 2021
21:54Seems to be the same craft
21:56It does suggest that this is an alien craft
22:00That is returning over and over again
22:03To the same area
22:05In some kind of surveillance related activity
22:08That it's gathering data and information
22:11That it's gathering data and information
22:15When it comes to the vast open landscape of the Mojave Desert
22:21UFO hotspots appear to extend far beyond the scope of military operations
22:32Some 56 kilometers northeast of 29 Palms
22:36In the early morning on February 21st, 2000
22:39A gargantuan boulder splits in two without warning
22:43Before the incident
22:45The aptly named Giant Rock
22:47Weighed more than 25,000 tons
22:50Covered 540 square meters
22:53And was estimated to have been formed
22:55Some 65 to 136 million years ago
23:00A really enigmatic structure, a giant rock
23:04It's a massive boulder, just unbelievably big
23:08Dubbed the world's biggest rock
23:11Its claimed association with extraterrestrial activity
23:15Draws hundreds of people to it every year
23:19For centuries it's believed to have had some kind of spiritual significance
23:24But it's something that New Agers in particular
23:27Have latched onto believing that it could be a confluence of ley lines
23:33Or a vortex
23:35And that it is emitting some kind of energy
23:39About three miles away from Giant Rock
23:42A peculiar white dome rises in the desert
23:45Reminiscent of an alien spaceship
23:47It is called the Integratron
23:50It was built to be a time machine
23:52That would heal and strengthen humans
23:54And the story of how it came to be
23:57Is deeply connected to Giant Rock
23:59In 1947, an Ohio resident called George Van Tassel
24:06Decides to go and live next to the Giant Rock
24:10He's so enthusiastic about it
24:12He's important to UFO lore for a few reasons
24:15He's important to the development of the contactee movement
24:19People who claimed not just to see UFOs
24:22But to have some kind of contact with them
24:25Whether that was being taken up in the craft
24:27And being given secret knowledge
24:30Or just having interactions with them on the ground
24:34Five years after moving to Giant Rock
24:36In the early 1950s
24:38Van Tassel publishes a book called
24:41I Wrote a Flying Saucer
24:43Where he describes meeting ten space creatures
24:46Who transmitted knowledge to him via telepathy
24:50He claims that while at Giant Rock
24:53He has seen many alien craft
24:56And hitched a ride
24:58Tassel's claim to fame
25:00Tassel's claim to fame
25:01Really is that he was in contact with aliens from Venus
25:06Including an individual called Solganda
25:09And these aliens were there to share their kind of spiritual knowledge
25:16And scientific knowledge with human beings
25:18According to Van Tassel
25:20His contact with these extraterrestrials led him to believe that he was instructed to build
25:29What he called a time machine
25:30And he did so
25:32He built a very strange looking structure
25:34It very much looks like a flying saucer of sorts
25:37It's this very large white dome in the desert
25:40And whether or not it works as a time machine
25:42It certainly was a draw for people coming to hear from Van Tassel
25:46And to try to learn from him
25:48Van Tassel claimed the machine's design came from a 17-page alien equation
25:54But his research in creating his masterpiece
25:57Is actually rooted in science
25:59Implementing ideas from the minds of Nikola Tesla
26:03And George Lakovsky
26:05Van Tassel builds up a cult following
26:08Because he talks about, you know, from his dreams
26:11Having engaged with aliens and then telling him how to build something
26:14But the following is from other UFO believers
26:17The Integraton is the only alien-designed building on Earth
26:24And the purpose of the Integraton was, as Van Tassel mentions in his book
26:29I wrote a flying saucer
26:31That through the use of electromagnetic waves
26:34And through electromagnetic radiation
26:36Cellular damage could be reversed
26:39So it's a time machine in the sense that you can actually heal yourself from aging
26:46That's the purpose of the Integraton
26:48The Integraton's kind of interesting because it is this dome structure
26:52And that's not a typical construction methodology
26:55We don't tend to build a lot of domes
26:57It's also built without any metal
27:00So it's basically doweled and glued together sections of wood
27:05It's a very unusual structure
27:07Not only in its shape, but in its methodology of construction
27:10At the Integraton
27:12There is a geomagnetic anomaly
27:15Basically the Earth's magnetic field is different in this location
27:19Potentially if somebody had a sense for geomagnetic fields

27:25So when you take the potential for infrasound from the underground rivers

28:33That this huge rock split because of an earthquake or bonfires
28:37And they believe that there is a far more credible reason for why it happened

28:51But whilst thoughts inevitably turn to the paranormal
28:55When tremors in the earth's crust are paired with lights in the sky

29:14A magnitude 6 earthquake hits that morning
29:18Injuring over 170 people
29:21And causing severe damage to infrastructure
29:25While earthquakes aren't uncommon in a state living in constant fear of the big one
29:30The mysterious lights seen in the sky were baffling to many
29:34If earthquake lights are a thing
29:37You would expect them in areas of higher geologic activity
29:42When we talk about something like the ring of fire
29:45Which is the entire area of high geologic activity
29:49All the way around the Pacific Ocean
29:52That is an area that has a lot of earthquakes
29:55Has a lot of volcanoes
29:56Has a lot of tectonic movement
29:58So if you're gonna see them
30:00That's where you're gonna see them
30:01They have been dubbed earthquake lights
30:04And scientists are still working on fully understanding them
30:07Earthquake lights is definitely a phenomenon that people supposedly have observed
30:14There may even be some video evidence of it
30:19But it's one of those phenomena that are very rare and very difficult to study
30:24While the Earth's surface in California is often rattled by seismic tremors
30:31Could delving deeper into its depths reveal clues about the origin stories of supposed interstellar visitors?

30:43Legends have proliferated about abnormally large or even giant prehistoric humans
30:50For a long time people have believed that there were a race of giant humans in the past
30:57And to support this there have been bones discovered that seem to indicate the one-time existence of these giants on planet Earth
31:08And that includes bones discovered in California
31:12The theory that giants inhabited the Earth is a very popular and prevalent theory
31:19Catalina Island is one of the places where people have tried to uncover evidence to support this idea
31:26That giants once walked the Earth
31:29In the early 1900s an archaeologist called Ralph Gliddens found the bones of a human being
31:38That was about seven to eight feet tall on Catalina Island
31:43Gliddens went on to claim that there had once been a race of very tall, blonde and blue-eyed giants living on Catalina Island
31:55The concept that links this evidence of giants to extraterrestrials is the hollow Earth theory
32:03Which takes believers deep beneath the Earth's surface to a supposed subterranean world concealed from our everyday reality
32:15It is suggested by its proponents that the Hollow Earth is home to advanced civilizations that have established hidden societies within our Earth's interior
32:25The idea of the Earth is basically that the surface of the Earth is not the only occupied area of the planet
32:35That the inside of the Earth is not dense rock
32:40It is hollow and there are ancient civilizations which inhabit the interior of this Hollow Earth
32:47This race that exists way down below the Earth under our feet is known as the Lemurians
32:57There are different variations on the history of the Lemurians
33:01But they lived on a kind of continent-sized land called Lemuria
33:07Which was destroyed in some kind of conflict
33:10And then the Lemurians went underground
33:14They went below the surface to protect themselves
33:16Possibly in the area of Mount Shasta

33:24Really pushing the idea that this could be real and merits further exploration

33:51They have access to extraterrestrial intelligence which provides them with all kinds of technology
33:58So the UFOs that we see are not necessarily extraterrestrial
34:03We are told they are ultra-terrestrial which means from within the Earth
34:10Tales of alien societies and international portals hidden deep beneath the Earth aren't limited to coastal California

34:29An imposing volcanic peak in Northern California
34:32Which has long stood as a beacon of mysticism and spiritual fascination
34:37Revered by indigenous peoples for centuries
34:41It has become a focal point for seekers of the supernatural and extraterrestrial
34:47Mount Shasta is a stratovolcano part of the Cascade Range
34:54And it is something which is very striking
34:57But it's also a place of high strangeness
35:00Because it has so many stories and so much lore attached to it
35:05Of people living in the mountains without contact with society
35:09Of lost treasure, of UFOs routinely being seen in the area
35:16And it draws your attention and your focus toward it
35:20Mount Shasta is a hotspot for alleged UFO sightings and activity
35:26In 2008, five people witnessed what they described as a jellyfish-like craft
35:33With what appears to be a fire raging inside of it
35:36Hovering silently over a nearby neighborhood
35:40Lifelong resident Dick Carey told the Mount Shasta Herald
35:45I really don't believe in flying saucers
35:48But I do know that something weird is happening here
35:52So Mount Shasta is a kind of like a zoo of UFO phenomena
35:58Every type of UFO has been seen there
36:01The black triangles have been seen there
36:04The burning orbs have been seen there
36:07And also the flying saucers
36:10Flying saucers are drawn to Mount Shasta

36:17A slew of well-documented reports came in of a strange object
36:22Hovering over the potentially active 4,200-meter volcano peak
36:28Experts were quick to jump on an explanation for this particular sighting
36:32A lenticular cloud, they claimed, is often shaped like a lentil or a UFO
36:38And have spawned UFO reports for decades
36:41Might this then have been the apparition seen hovering above Shasta in early 2020?
36:49Lenticular clouds are formed as air moves over a solid object
36:54Or moves between an area of high density and low density
36:58You'll have air moving along towards a mountain
37:02And it might be sitting just below 100% humidity
37:06And when it hits a mountain, it's what we call orographic lift
37:10And it instantly condenses
37:12And then begins on the other side
37:14It drops back down again
37:16So you get a little wave
37:17And what's really neat is
37:19You'll have the cloud form around the top of the mountain
37:22But then if you go further downstream
37:25You'll actually get more lenticular clouds downstream of the mountain
37:30Lenticular clouds quite literally look like motherships
37:34Like, when you see them, you go like, that's a UFO
37:38That is absolutely a UFO because they'll quite often be round
37:42The edges will be perfectly smooth
37:45You'll sometimes have multiple layers of these perfectly smooth shelves
37:50And this is not what people expect clouds to look like
37:56While the explanation is straightforward for some
37:59For others, nothing could dissuade them that what they'd seen was not from this earth
38:06That the US Forest Service was forced to put out a statement denying its extraterrestrial origins
38:13But many remain convinced that Mount Shasta is a portal to another dimension
38:20Mount Shasta is seen as a kind of entry point to the Lemurian world
38:26And they are down there possibly making contact over our heads with the extraterrestrial universe
38:36The theories are rooted in part in the mountain's complex geology
38:40Its lush forests conceal hidden caves and underground labyrinths
38:45Which some believe are inhabited by an ancient race of otherworldly beings
38:51Mount Shasta is kind of interesting because it has these kind of shape-shifting properties
38:56Basically, because of the natural elements and erosion of ice and movement of water and debris
39:03The mountain actually changes appearance periodically
39:07Basically, we've had erosion and loss of material on one side
39:11And a build-up of ice and snow and material and debris on the other side
39:15Which has given the visual impression that the entire mountain has shifted its position within the landscape itself
39:23In 2009, a mysterious hole about 5 meters wide and 18 meters deep
39:30Suddenly appeared out of nowhere on Mount Shasta's side
39:35Despite its impressive size, the hole appears to have been dug out by hand overnight
39:40Using a simple pulley system to remove the dirt
39:44Of course, the natural question to ask if a hole just suddenly appears on the side of a mountain is
39:50How did it get there?
39:51Unfortunately, nobody really knows
39:53There are many theories as there usually are with these kinds of things
39:57But nobody has a clear answer to this
39:59And it's strange given that it's a full 15 feet across, about 60 feet deep
40:06It's a pretty sizable hole for really no explanation to give any credence to it
40:12The tales surrounding Mount Shasta, including the existence of Lemurians in its hidden depths
40:19Exists largely within the realms of folklore and personal belief
40:23Rather than any established science
40:25The idea is basically that, again, it comes back to Hollow Earth, right?
40:33That underneath Mount Shasta one can gain access to the lost continent of Lemuria
40:38Just as Atlantis is supposed to have been a civilization that is kind of lost
40:43Lemuria is another civilization that is supposed to have also been lost
40:47And Mount Shasta is the last, one of the last remaining doorways, entrances to the continent of Lemuria
40:55In more extreme versions of the theory, Mount Shasta has been linked to the idea of a human alien secret breeding program
41:07That is going on beneath Mount Shasta, deep underground
41:12A mere 110 kilometers from Mount Shasta
41:16A team of researchers is scouring the skies for scientific proof that humanity is not alone in the universe
41:24The Allen Telescope Array is a group of telescopes that are being used to search for signals in outer space
41:33And in particular for SETI, or the Search for Extraterrestrial Life
41:37So much of the work that's being done by SETI is combing through copious amounts of data, radio signals
41:44Searching, for example, patterns in the data that could not possibly be produced by just random noise
41:50And those patterns might indicate evidence of life
41:54Space isn't quiet, not in the radio
41:57And so, as scientists from SETI listen to outer space, they are constantly collecting data
42:05And that data has noise
42:07And so even if they see something, a blip, something that might look interesting
42:11They have to keep listening
42:13Because if intelligent life is producing it, we would expect to see it repeated over time
42:18One of the most challenging things about this work is we don't know exactly what we're looking for
42:23It's a bit like a needle in a haystack
42:25While the primary objective of SETI is to search for signals from extraterrestrial intelligence
42:32Detecting any signs of interstellar activity of any kind would be of monumental significance
42:42If alien life forms do exist, and are indeed visiting the planet we call home
42:47It's not only a question of why, but why now, and why here?
42:55California, it turns out, may be a perfect place for aliens
43:00There is enormous mineral wealth
43:03There is, of course, a lot of military bases
43:07And California is just generally a fascinating place
43:11And if there's a part of the planet that aliens are going to be interested in
43:15Well, I suggest that California will be that place
43:18Another thing that might draw a UFO or extraterrestrials to California in particular are nuclear power plants
43:26There seems to be some relationship between UFO sightings and nuclear power plants
43:31People have spotted these around them, especially around times of meltdown or disaster
43:35I don't think it's actually that surprising that if UFOs are real that they would be surveilling those sites
43:41They would be gold mines for information, frankly, of how we think about ourselves
43:47And what we're trying to achieve with our nations or with the world in general
43:51And especially the destructive capacity that we're capable of
43:56I am skeptical of alien traffic that enters our atmosphere of any description
44:03Unless they've discovered a new kind of physics
44:06Entering our atmosphere is not an easy thing to do
44:09And it would be noticed
44:12To date, I think there's probably an explanation for any sighting that can't be explained
44:18Either by the naked eye or by a physical identification
44:22To date, SETI has not detected any confirmed examples of signals from extraterrestrial life
44:29But given the sheer opportunities for life that exist out in the universe
44:34Even within our own Milky Way galaxy
44:36I still feel like it's an incredibly important thing to keep listening
44:40And I would not be surprised if potentially even within my own lifetime
44:44We do detect something
44:46But even in this moment, that it could happen
44:49But, if we've seen the same thing as possible
44:50But I think it might avoid something
44:51As if we're looking at the same thing
44:53It is very important
