00:00I wanted to know how can an individual live a life without seeking validation or recognition
00:06from an authoritative figure, especially when it has been withheld in the past?
00:11An external authority or an external discipline is needed only because we lack
00:17there is a higher self within and there is a lower self within.
00:24The lower self says, keep sleeping even through the moments that call you to accept the challenge.
00:33The higher self says, if the challenge is worth it, accept it.
00:37That's the higher self.
00:38Why did I have to bring it to a point where somebody else had to get in and remind me?
00:45Why do I need an external authority?
00:47And if the external authority had to step in, that's not a fault of that authority.
00:52That's my fault.
00:54What you do not want is an external authority.
00:57It's not that you do not want an authority at all.
01:00Let your best discretion be the authority.
01:04How about that?
01:08Rafalam sir, I'm Divyanshi.
01:11I wanted to know how can an individual live a life without seeking validation or recognition
01:17from an authoritative figure, especially when it has been withheld in the past?
01:24No, authority is needed, yes.
01:27Let me reframe the question and then tell me whether I have rightly done so.
01:33What you do not want is an external authority.
01:36It's not that you do not want an authority at all.
01:41What is problematic is an external authority.
01:48Let your best discretion be the authority.
01:52How about that?
01:56Because internally, we are not one being, right?
02:00Have you seen?
02:01One part of you wants to play mischief.
02:05One part of you wants to say, no, what's the point in completing the assignment?
02:09Let me copy it from somewhere.
02:10What's the point in waking up and setting up the alarm and preparing for the exam?
02:17Let me just sleep through it.
02:19It's fine, you know.
02:21That's one part.
02:22And then the other part says, no.
02:24No.
02:25So, there is a higher self within.
02:30There is a higher self within.
02:32And there is a lower self within.
02:35The lower self says, keep sleeping even through the moments that beckon you,
02:46that call you to accept the challenge.
02:48That's the lower self.
02:51Right?
02:51The higher self says, don't worry about the damage you will suffer.
02:56If the challenge is worth it, accept it.
02:59That's the higher self.
03:01Let the higher self be the authority.
03:04And when you have the right authority within yourself,
03:08then you do not require somebody outside of yourself to be the authority.
03:14An external authority or an external discipline
03:18is needed only because we lack internal authority and internal discipline.
03:25Then the external authority comes and says, you be disciplined, you move this way,
03:28you follow this schedule, you stick to this deadline.
03:32That's what the external authority does.
03:34Right?
03:34Sets do's and don'ts.
03:37Operation manuals.
03:40Right?
03:40Codes of conduct.
03:41That's what the external authority does and says, you'll have to take validation from me.
03:47I'll authorize, I'll approve, I'll permit.
03:53All these things can be done by the internal authority also.
03:59The punishment for not having an internal authority is that you'll have to tolerate an external authority.
04:05Do you want to tolerate that?
04:08Then be your own strictest authority.
04:24You see, there are two kinds of people.
04:26One, those who are not doing what they should.
04:36Those who are not doing what they should.
04:39And when the external authority chastises them,
04:44or reminds them, occasionally rebukes them,
04:48then they feel angry at the external authority.
04:53Now, you are not doing what you should anyway be doing.
04:58And somebody comes and tells you,
05:00this is what you must be doing.
05:01This is in your own interest.
05:04If you do this, you'll be a better person.
05:07And who do you get angry at?
05:09The external one.
05:10This is one kind of.
05:12The other kind,
05:13I'm not doing what I should.
05:15And the external one comes
05:17and reminds me
05:19or admonishes me.
05:24I get angry at myself
05:26and I feel gratitude for him.
05:32The situation is inverted now.
05:34Do you understand that?
05:36I get angry at myself.
05:37Why did I have to bring it to a point
05:40where somebody else had to get in and remind me?
05:44This is something that I should be doing on my own.
05:48Why do I need an external authority?
05:50And if the external authority had to step in,
05:53that's not a fault of that authority.
05:56That's my fault.
05:57Because I should have been doing
05:59without needing any reminders,
06:02without needing any stimulation,
06:04without needing any encouragement
06:06to do what I must.
06:08But most of us
06:09lack this mustness in life.
06:13All we have is petty desires
06:14or flow of the past,
06:16flow of habits.
06:17I've not been doing this since two years,
06:19so I won't do this today either.
06:22That doesn't even sound good.
06:24How can it feel good while doing?
06:27So when you find yourself
06:31being disciplined by an external authority,
06:36ask yourself,
06:38what did I do to deserve this?
06:42Don't get angry at that one.
06:45In fact, thank that one.
06:47And that source,
06:49that authority deserves to be thanked.
06:51Because that one has come to tell you
06:53what you must do.
06:54So thank that one,
06:55but internally
06:57make a promise
06:58to yourself.
06:59Next time,
07:00I should not need this person.
07:02This time,
07:03he had to step in
07:04and I duly thanked him
07:06or her,
07:07whatever.
07:08Right?
07:09This time,
07:10this fellow had to intervene
07:11and I thank him for that.
07:13But I commit to myself
07:15that next time,
07:16I will not need this person.
07:17If it's my life,
07:19then it's my responsibility.
07:23If it's my life,
07:24then I have to be the authority.
07:27I'll be the king
07:28and the queen of my life
07:29because it's
07:30my life.
07:32Why should I need somebody
07:33to discipline me?
07:35Right?
07:35Yeah.
07:35Good afternoon, sir.
07:44I'm Siddhi Deshwal.
07:45I am in 11th grade right now.
07:47And first of all,
07:48your words,
07:48they truly inspired me.
07:49My mother is a big follower of yours,
07:51so she's told me a lot about you.
07:53One thing which I really wanted to know
07:55is that we're all 11th and 12th graders
07:57and we all have like,
07:59we all have to deal with failures,
08:00setbacks,
08:01we have to deal with
08:02external responsibilities,
08:04distractions and whatnot.
08:06So,
08:08the Gita,
08:08it's not just a religious book,
08:10it's also a life coach.
08:11So,
08:12any verses in it
08:13or any advice from it
08:14which you would like to explain to us
08:16which helps us deal with that
08:17specifically?
08:20Ignore the
08:21random noises.
08:24Choose the right war.
08:25and then
08:27give yourself
08:28fully to it.
08:36There would be
08:37random provocations,
08:40insinuations,
08:44stimulations,
08:45something pricks from here,
08:47somebody pokes from there.
08:49All those petty things
08:51are to be ignored.
08:54And then you'll be
08:55in a position
08:56to pick
08:57only the right war
08:58for yourself.
09:01The right war.
09:02That's all.
09:04You cannot have
09:05a war
09:06on a thousand fronts.
09:08That's not possible.
09:09You have to ignore
09:11the 999
09:12trivial fronts.
09:14Choose the one thing
09:16that's worth doing
09:16in life.
09:18And then allow yourself
09:19to be fully immersed in it.
09:21Totally immersed in it.
09:23That's what
09:23Shri Krishna is telling
09:24Arjuna.
09:24Now fight.
09:26You have lived
09:27all your life
09:28only to come
09:29to this point.
09:30Now you can't
09:31run away.
09:32Fight.
09:32This is the right battle.
09:35And this is not
09:36something you can
09:36abscond from.
09:39And please remember
09:41Arjuna fought
09:42so many wars
09:43in his life.
09:44The Gita
09:47was not delivered.
09:49The Gita
09:49was not delivered.
09:53The Gita
09:54came to Arjuna
09:55only when
09:56it was the moment
09:58of the highest
09:59battle.
10:01You'll have to
10:02choose the highest
10:03battle for yourself
10:04and then you'll have
10:05Krishna and Gita
10:06for yourself.
10:06If you are
10:13involved in all
10:14kinds of
10:15trivial engagements
10:16locking horns
10:18with this one
10:19brushing shoulders
10:21against that one
10:22you know
10:24getting irritated
10:25by
10:26that one
10:28oh that one
10:29drugged me
10:29the wrong way.
10:32The Gita
10:33is not for
10:34these things.
10:35you need to
10:36have a battle
10:37worthy enough
10:38and then
10:40you'll have
10:41a life
10:42great enough.
10:44Yeah.
10:46Thank you so much.
