00:00Now, as the new generation taking over the mantle, do you want to continue with that
00:11old definition of success?
00:15See how difficult it is to say no in a firm and resounding way, right?
00:23Because that success just tempts, it's so lucrative.
00:29But I'll be happy if even a few of you say no to that kind of success.
00:38Do you have a few people who would want to definitely reject the kind of success that's
00:46based on obliterating the planet itself?
00:50Do we have a few people ready to say no?
00:57Think over it.
00:59Think over it.
01:00Yes, we all want to succeed.
01:02Yes, we must be winners.
01:06But can we have a more honest, authentic and less violent definition of success?
01:20Does success have to be about exploiting resources and exploiting the poor?
01:29Does success have to be about psychological warfare and one-upmanship and showing yourself
01:35superior to your neighbour or to your batch mate or to your colleague?
01:39Does it have to be that way?
01:45What then, alternatively, can success be?
01:57Contribute to the society, making the world a better place.
02:01All very nice, but also very cliched.
02:12If I want so desperately, if each of us, we all so desperately want to win, what does that
02:22tell about our current condition?
02:26When you are already well-fed, do you still want to eat?
02:32Having slept for eight hours, do you still want to sleep?
02:35Usually not.
02:36Sometimes, yes.
02:37You are already dozing off.
02:45So if you want something very desperately, that's an evidence that you don't have it
02:54right now.
02:55Right?
02:56When you are famished, then you say, show me food.
03:04So if we are constantly saying, show me success, what does that tell about our current condition?
03:13We feel like failures and losers.
03:16So before we come to an alternate definition of success, should we not inquire what makes
03:22us feel like losers in the first place?
03:26Had we not been feeling like losers, why would we clamour for success so much?
03:34If I am not thirsty, while I constantly keep looking at water and dreaming of water, doesn't
03:41make sense.
03:43I have to be thirsty.
03:44First of all, I must figure out, why are we all so thirsty?
03:50And we are not thirsty at this point, at this place, in this condition.
03:56We find everybody is thirsty for success.
04:00Probably we are born thirsty.
04:02Probably it's the fundamental human condition to feel like a loser.
04:10Right?
04:12And that's why even kids, when they fight each other, they want to win, they want to dominate.
04:24They want to be called the superior one.
04:27And that's a tendency we share with animals, don't we?
04:33So there is something within us that's not okay with itself.
04:37And that's why it wants to exploit the other.
04:41The other could be my brother, my father, my mother, my neighbour or the jungle, entire
04:49planet with all its nature.
04:54Because I feel that unless I conquer somebody, I won't be alright within.
05:01That's the fundamental human condition.
05:04That's the point man started from.
05:08He was feeling like a loser and he thought, maybe if I conquer externally, I'll start feeling
05:12good about myself.
05:14Right?
05:16But had he paused for a while, looked within and figured out what is it that really nails
05:26him down, that really makes him feel defeated internally, then he could have maybe given himself
05:35a more targeted medicine, a wiser medicine, no?
05:46Those who have known, those who have known, they have said, your internal weaknesses make
05:56you fight external enemies.
05:59They have not stopped here.
06:04They have said your internal weaknesses make you imagine external enemies.
06:16They have said, when these weaknesses are all raging within, then it becomes compulsory
06:29for you to display a fake strength on the outside.
06:39When internally you feel defeated all the time, then there is great temptation to feel like
06:47a conqueror outside.
06:54And what is this internal defeat?
06:57This internal defeat is something that we are all born with.
07:02But thankfully, it's not a defeat that is compulsory or permanent.
07:06We are all born with no sense of who we are, right?
07:16Seen a newborn?
07:19Throwing her limbs, always possible, making no sense of what's going on, needing protection
07:26all the time, totally dependent on everybody else.
07:29Right?
07:30That's how we are born.
07:33We do not know what's going on.
07:35And when you do not know what's going on, often you want to clutch at everything.
07:40When you do not know what you really need, then often you desire everything.
07:48When you do not know what you really need, then you shop for everything, don't you?
07:52Have you seen that?
07:56You walk into a super mall, which has everything under the sky, but you do not know what you
08:03really want.
08:04So, you end up shopping a lot.
08:08Whereas a fellow who clearly knows what he or she needs, walks in, picks up and gets out.
08:19Those who stay shopping for six hours are those who probably don't need to shop for anything.
08:27Because they don't really need anything, hence they want everything.
08:35And that is what must be known.
08:37What is it that you really, really internally need?
08:41That is the kind of success that your generation must now espouse.
08:50Because the old model of success has totally failed you.
08:53Not only has it failed you, the debris of the old model of success is all upon you.
09:00The old ones have left that debris for you.
09:05And if debris doesn't sound scary enough, let me call it radioactive debris.
09:10How does it feel now?
09:14They consume the planet and the ashes have been left for you to deal with.
09:23The generations before yours, they have burned the planet down.
09:29And it's now upon you to make amends.
09:35That's not a happy place to be in, right?
09:38You cannot carry forward their legacy.
09:40Can you?
09:43So you need to have a new definition of success altogether.
09:48I need to fight the enemy inside.
09:52The enemy isn't out there.
09:54Most of all, the enemy is in here, here, here.
10:07These are the two kinds of successes possible.
10:12Very carefully, you must pick yours.
10:17Do you want to continue the way the oldies went and destroyed themselves?
10:24And the entire planet?
10:26Or do you want to have a new path, a new light for yourself?
10:37What do you want?
10:38The same old beaten road?
10:42A new path.
10:49I'm not sure whether the story was entertaining or…
11:01It needs to be told.
11:03It needs to be told again and again, over and over again.
11:08Because you guys, you will be taking it all on yourself, right?
11:13You must know these things and the media is not bringing these things to you, is it?
11:19Is it there on national news?
11:24Do you find it on entertainment channels?
11:26Are movies being made on these themes?
11:29Even in the print media, are these things being covered?
11:33Rarely.
11:34Rarely.
11:35And even if somebody talks of them, does the algorithm, does the algorithm support that
11:49or promote that?
11:50No, it does not.
11:56You must talk of these things because it's your life, your planet, your future.
12:05Getting it?
12:09It might not be that entertaining, but I hope it is a bit illuminating.
12:13Today, we need illumination more than entertainment.
12:17Do we agree?
12:18And illumination itself has a certain joy about it.
12:24Has it not?
12:25No?
12:26Yeah.
12:27Yes.
12:28Good afternoon, sir.
12:29I am Kataini and I have a follow-up question.
12:31Your answer provided immense clarity on the true definition of success.
12:35But I was curious, how do we know that we are chasing the right version of success?
12:42You have to be with yourself.
12:45It's your life that you have to live, right?
12:48Only you can know what is it that bogs you down internally.
12:56These are your fears, insecurities.
13:00We are vague within, hazy within.
13:02When it comes to taking important decisions, we look around, don't we?
13:06We experience all of that.
13:08And that's what we have to know.
13:10Not just push under the carpet.
13:12We get angry, we get instinctive, we get reactive, don't we?
13:18This is what needs to be conquered, not the forest.
13:24That's the weakness that you have to conquer.
13:26Somebody comes and says, you are Kataini, right?
13:30Not looking good.
13:32And you find, you know, it's bogging you.
13:39Even two hours later, you find it's still here.
13:44Some odd comment by a random stranger.
13:47He just said, no, not looking fine.
13:50Something wrong with you.
13:52And you are still holding on to it.
13:54That's the weakness.
13:57And that's not a small thing.
13:58Because that's what is life.
14:00A series of such micro events, day in and day out.
14:06Somebody comes and says something and you get angry.
14:10And the bigger thing is you got angry at exactly the same thing last month as well.
14:17And the month before that, and the month before that, and the month before that.
14:26That's what you need to conquer.
14:27That's where success lies.
14:30And those who can conquer themselves, they find that they do not desire any kind of nonsense
14:39on the outside.
14:41And then what they want on the outside becomes very readily available.
14:47I'm saying two things.
14:48One, when you are clear about yourself, when you watch your actions, your reactions, your
14:55thoughts, your hopes, all these things.
14:59And these are continuously happening with us, right?
15:01When you watch these things and you know what is it that keeps cooking within.
15:07You have some clarity about that.
15:09Then first thing, you do not rush after random targets on the outside.
15:15Second thing, the target that you now set with clarity, now doesn't remain beyond you.
15:24The one who has conquered the enemy within, finds it relatively easier to conquer whatever she
15:31wants on the outside.
15:34On the other hand, if you have not looked inside yourself and you keep conquering stuff outside,
15:43you find all those conquests are hollow and you are still hungry for more.
15:48And this hunger is what is the devastation of the planet.
15:52Hmm?
15:53Hmm?
15:54Yeah.
15:55Yeah.
15:55.
17:22So, before we come to an alternate definition of success, should we not inquire what makes
17:36us feel like losers in the first place?
17:39Had we not been feeling like losers, why would we clamour for success so much?
17:44If I am not thirsty, why will I constantly keep looking at water and dreaming of water?
17:53It doesn't make sense.
17:55I have to be thirsty.

18:23Right?
18:24And that's why, even kids, when they fight each other, they want to win.
18:34They want to dominate.
18:36They want to be called the superior one.
18:40And that's a tendency we share with animals, don't we?
18:44Don't we?
18:45Yeah.
18:46So, there is something within us that's not okay with itself.
18:50And that's why, it wants to exploit the other.
18:54The other could be my brother, my father, my mother, my neighbour, or the jungle, entire
19:02planet, with all its nature.
19:07Because I feel that unless I conquer somebody, I won't be alright within.
19:13That's the fundamental human condition.
19:17That's the point man started from.
19:20He was feeling like a loser and he thought, maybe if I conquer externally, I'll start feeling
19:25good about myself.
19:27Right?
19:28But had he paused for a while, looked within and figured out what is it that really nails
19:39him down, that really makes him feel defeated internally.
19:44Then he could have, maybe, given himself a more targeted medicine.
