00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this Christmas Eve which is dry for most, it'll be bright for many but the wind is picking up and it's coming in from a cold direction.
00:11High pressure sits towards the north across Scandinavia and this easterly wind is developing, low pressure across Italy, a real squeeze on the ice bars, the air is frigid across much of central and eastern areas of Europe with a significant wind chill coming our way and that's the air that we're inheriting.
00:30through the next few days. A few showers possible also into Christmas Day across the far south west. For most though it's dry with a lighter wind across Scotland where the centre of the high will drift across.
00:43Now through this morning if you are stepping out once the sun rises you'll see some brighter weather if not some sunshine. A mix of cloud and brighter breaks across eastern counties, northern Ireland as well.
00:54We do run into a bit more cloud across central, southern and southwestern areas of England and Wales and that wind fresh coming in from the east-northeast.
01:04However, through this morning watch as this cloud slowly rolls over and turns and also breaks up. So some brighter breaks coming through.
01:13Across eastern Scotland, a bit of a brisk breeze this morning extending towards Shetland. For most though it's a dry day and even where you've seen that cloud you should see some little areas of blue sky just come through as we head through lunchtime and into the afternoon.
01:30A bit more cloud rolling in from the north sea along this eastern side and there will be a wind chill, a significant wind chill where the wind picks up to strong towards the southeast.
01:42So temperatures around 7 or 8 degrees Celsius. It's going to feel colder than that.
01:46Into this evening and overnight. Well good news for Santa and his reindeer. Visibility will be good which is great news and he's used to the cold air which it will be.
01:57So to be honest no problems there as that wind continues. So probably a bit of a tailwind if he's coming from eastern Europe as well because that wind is coming from the same direction.
02:09But into Christmas day it will be yet again a chilly start. A dry one with a frost in places. That cloud comes and goes across eastern counties of England down towards Wales.
02:20But for most it's a bright start to the day. Notice though this wind will be significant across more central and southern parts of England and Wales.
02:29Perhaps even touching coastal gales along that south coast there. And notice through the morning that cloud thickens. There's a chance of one or two light showers just clipping the far southwest.
02:40For most though it's a dry Christmas day and also a bright one but it will be cold outside.
02:47Now the winds will be light across central and northern areas of Scotland. A bit of a breeze across southern Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:53And then that wind increasingly strong further south. And as I said the risk of those gales just touching this south coast here. Temperatures then through the afternoon.
03:04Six or seven degrees Celsius. Through Christmas day evening and into Boxing Day there's not a lot of change.
03:12So windy in the south. Bright for most with some sunshine. Eastern counties may see more in the way of clouds and temperatures struggling.
03:19Five or six degrees Celsius. And not a lot of change as we head into Christmas weekend.
03:24Wherever you are. Take care. We'll obviously keep you posted on all our social media channels right the way through Christmas week.
