00:00Welcome. What a great day to be Irish.
00:14There are moments in this job that can be exceptionally challenging,
00:17but they are more than offset by special moments.
00:21Moments of extraordinary privilege.
00:24The sort of moments that define this university.
00:26What most significantly brought us to this day was that we had available to us
00:32the best possible candidate in America to lead this program
00:37and protect this culture and serve this university.
00:41Ladies and gentlemen, the 30th head coach of the University of Notre Dame, Marcus Freeman.
00:45I plan on leading this team with an unwavering standard.
00:49We will call it the Golden Standard.
00:51The Golden Standard is something that we live by day in and day out.
00:58TGS on two. One, two.
01:00TGS. TGS. TGS. TGS.
01:01TGS is the Golden Standard.
01:03TGS.
01:05So what is the Golden Standard?
01:09Number one is challenge everything.
01:11Challenge everything, man. Find a better way. Never just go status quo.
01:14We're not trying to stay complacent or stay in the same place.
01:20We're trying to get 1% better every single day.
01:23Number two is unit strength.
01:25Unit strength means love.
01:27You choose to love, so you're choosing to love your teammates.
01:30My teammates choose hard. We choose to love each other, gain each other's trust.
01:34And number three is the competitive spirit.
01:37It's creating a winner's mindset.
01:39I believe that leaders are born, but winners are created.
01:44And you're created through intentional actions.
01:48We live or die by those. Those are our standards.
01:51We set the standard, and we don't falter, and we don't fall to nobody about the standard.
01:55And you can either raise yourself to it or fall below it.
01:58This standard will be unwavering.
02:01And this is the standard that will drive this football program to its 12th national championship.
02:05First game under your belt, man.
02:20Yeah.
02:21How you feel?
02:22Well, I liked it to end a little different, but it was good.
02:26Yeah.
02:27Learning opportunities all over.
02:30There's nothing like getting the first one under your belt.
02:33You don't know what you don't know.
02:36You know what I mean?
02:37Like, nothing could prepare you for that moment other than playing it.
02:42I met with CJ and told him I was proud of him.
02:44First game, hostile environment.
02:47You know, he played well versus a really good defense.
02:51Like, overall, he performed really well.
02:53I was like, did he just throw a note of this now?
02:56That's why you're CJ Carter.
02:57That's why you're a starting quarterback.
02:59We are at a better elevation height.
03:02Like, where we're at right now versus last year, game one, I promised for a better team, you know?
03:08But the outcome wasn't what we wanted.
03:11And so, we got to continue to get better, right?
03:15Because it ain't like we got an easy one coming out.
03:18CJ wants to be perfect like we all do.
03:21But at the end of the day, CJ played really well.
03:23And that's going to be the foundation for what his future is here at Notre Dame.
03:30You handled the environment, the play a lot.
03:33You know what I mean?
03:33You were aware.
03:35You're just going to become more and more comfortable.
03:37I could tell you from the first play to the last play, like, I feel like we could see ourselves
03:44be more comfortable as the game went on.
03:46Yeah.
03:46It felt like they couldn't stop us in the second half.
03:49We stopped ourselves in the first half.
03:52That's why this week is going to be important.
03:54Keep going.
03:55Keep leading.
03:55Yes, sir.
03:56Everybody's following you now.
03:57Yep.
03:57Okay?
03:58All right.
03:59Appreciate you, man.
03:59Appreciate you.
04:00Yep.
04:00Yep.
04:00Yep.
04:00Yep.
04:00Yep.
04:01Yep.
04:01Yep.
04:01Yep.
04:01Yep.
04:01Yep.
04:02Yep.
04:03Yep.
04:03Yep.
04:03Yep.
04:04Yep.
04:05Yep.
04:05Yep.
04:06Yep.
04:07C.J., I think, is a very, very competitive person at heart, emotional.
04:14You know, he wants to do well as much as anybody that I've ever been around.
04:18It's important to him that he's the best at what he does.
04:22It was quite an environment for C.J. to start his career.
04:27In this era of college athletics and football and the way the playoff is structured, it's good
04:33to have that early.
04:34All right, if you're going to lose, if you're going to lose, and that's a really talented
04:38Miami team.
04:39So I think everybody's got to put things in perspective a little bit.
04:46It's a hard start to the year.
04:48All right, let's roll, okay?
04:50With tradition comes responsibility, all right?
04:53Well, we get an opportunity, all right, to play in this place, this special place, all right?
04:587.30, Saturday night.
04:59Who it starts with?
05:00It starts with number 10, the quarterback, all right?
05:02He makes the thing go, okay?
05:04He's the leading passer.
05:05He's the leading rusher on the squad.
05:07Marcel Reed raised the ceiling on the quarterback position at Texas A&M.
05:12Now the question is, how good can he be?
05:13Start fast across the board at all positions.
05:18Must have great pursuit and gain tackle.
05:20Get to the damn ball, all right?
05:21That's the mentality.
05:22That's our key to victory.
05:24I think it's just really good for college football to have brands like that clashing early and
05:29to give us those measuring sticks for both of those teams to have a really good sense
05:33of who they are.
05:35Don't be a snooze guy, all right?
05:37Don't be a snooze guy.
05:38Do it now.
05:39You just got to applaud it because not everyone is willing to do that.
05:43Do it now.
05:44Fix it.
05:44Get it done now, right?
05:46Play fast now.
05:47Do it now.
05:48Have that mentality about yourself.
05:52Have a sense of urgency about yourself and everything that you do.
05:55So as soon as you come into this building, have a sense of urgency.
05:58As soon as you get your ass up in the morning, have a sense of urgency about everything you
06:01do.
06:03If you do that, you're going to be that much better.
06:06I know this week we're going to hit the ground running for sure.
06:11Practice is going to be hard.
06:12Take the field.
06:14Hurry up.
06:15Hurry up.
06:25The mindset we play at home is always defend our home.
06:29It's our house.
06:29We don't want someone walking into our house, kicking our front door down and taking our
06:36stuff, especially when you're with your brothers.
06:39Competition is going to be through the roof.
06:41No one likes losing, obviously.
06:43And our team is going to show that, you know, within this week of practice.
06:45The first time to play in Notre Dame Stadium each season is special, and we have to make
06:52sure we prepare in a way of understanding the opportunity that we have.
06:55Step, step, step, step, step, step.
06:58To play in front of our home fans versus a top 25 team, it's going to be a great experience.
07:04Just remember, like, what Coach Mick talked about, the sense of urgency.
07:09I believe your sense of urgency is a reflection of how important something is to you.
07:14So we've got to make sure that the importance of elevating is more important than anything.
07:18Everybody wants it, man.
07:19I say it all the time, but not everybody's willing to do it.
07:23Our choices will reflect what we value.
07:25Everybody understand that?
07:26If it's important, we'll have a sense of urgency to do those things.
07:29Everybody on the same page?
07:31You got a meal?
07:32TGS on two.
07:33One, two.
07:33TGS.
07:54Is this your first leprechaun tribe?
07:56I believe in this group.
07:59We have four leprechauns.
08:01Gold, blue, and then two, green.
08:06Gold is football.
08:08Always football.
08:11There aren't many mascots like us.
08:14We are always striving to be a force for good.
08:16The leprechaun signifies that.
08:19Welcome to the in-person tryout is a combination of a pep rally or in-game scenario, which they're
08:37only given two minutes to prepare for.
08:39They're given an envelope with a prompt and say, hey, now go out there and perform that.
08:43Let's go!
08:47We are Andy!
08:50A media interview.
08:51Marcus Freeman was an excellent coach these past three years.
08:54He's going to continue doing great things.
08:55It's a mental game because you prepare for everything that you can, but then what product are you going to put out?
09:01Are you confident?
09:02Did you freeze up?
09:03I'm McKenna Englehart.
09:11I'm a current senior, and I've been a leprechaun for two years so far.
09:16For me, the process started out as a bit of a joke, actually.
09:20They had sent out a notice about, oh, you can be one of the leprechauns.
09:24And I started to realize, oh, there's a lot more to this than just being there at sports games.
09:31And so that kept me coming back.
09:33Leprechaun McKenna, good to meet you guys.
09:35I think something that's really special about McKenna as a leprechaun is, one, how much she's grown in her role.
09:42We're really happy with the legacy of everyone that comes and plays and gets to be a part of this community.
09:48The last couple of years, she's covered both men's and women's soccer, hockey, lacrosse, and she brings a really unique style to the role.
09:57Awesome.
09:58We are not a traditional mascot in that people see our faces, they get to know our names.
10:05And while we are still conveying that kind of playful spirit of Notre Dame, at the end of the day, we still are a version of ourselves.
10:13This braiding is definitely where the dance experience comes in.
10:18I get butterflies still, I would say, before almost any event I do as Leprechaun.
10:26With tryouts, everyone there is there to see you.
10:30That makes me scared.
10:32We give it up for Leprechaun McKenna!
10:39Anyone can come watch, and they fill one of the gyms.
10:43Oh, come on, come on, let's hear it.
10:45Yeah, okay, this way.
10:51That's probably one of the biggest traditions about Leprechaun tryouts.
10:54Back in the day, like, they would pack kids in, like, her dance, and it would be crazy.
10:58All right, all right, Irish fans, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and most importantly, Irish fans.
11:06How's it going?
11:09Okay, okay, I think you can do better than that.
11:12I said, how's it going, Irish fans?
11:17Now that is more like it.
11:20When we're judging to choose the students to portray the role, we're looking for a lot of different things.
11:26Are they charismatic?
11:29Do they understand that they're representing something so much bigger than themselves?
11:33There's kind of like a spark that they have.
11:36It's hard to put a word on, but you'll know when you see someone, and you're like, yeah, that person, they got it.
11:42Here we go.
11:43We are Andy Mowder.
11:46You want to call some cheers, get the crowd involved, and just show that you're able to think quick on your feet
11:54and engage people with whatever environment you're thrown into.
11:57All right.
12:02Come on, we're ready.
12:04Come on.
12:06And then that's all done.
12:11We can take pictures quickly with our friends and family.
12:14You did a great job.
12:16I'll see you after.
12:17Is it everything you thought it would be?
12:19Maybe more intense.
12:21Okay.
12:21And we go into what is honestly one of my favorite parts.
12:25We change back into our normal clothes, and we get to talk with the panel of judges.
12:30Hi, McKenna.
12:31Hey.
12:32How are you?
12:33Good.
12:33How are you doing?
12:34I'm okay.
12:35Tell us how you hope to continue to impact the role of the program in the university.
12:39I think what's really unique about this role is we each get to try to encapsulate a little bit of this community.
12:46You know, I want to continue leading this university in a way that reflects our core values and what our university stands for.
12:52What Notre Dame is at its core is a set of people, and the honor of the Leprechaun is getting to serve those people in different ways.
12:57Being a part of it, we all know how special it is and how diverse it is,
13:02but I think through this role and showing a little bit of our personality, we're able to remind others around us of that, and that's something I personally hope to do.
13:12All right.
13:12Thanks, McKenna.
13:13We appreciate you.
13:14All right.
13:15We'll see you soon.
13:15Awesome.
13:16Thank you guys so much.
13:17All right.
13:17We appreciate it.
13:18Thank you guys.
13:19The big difference we're talking about between gold and blue is just who's doing football, who can command the larger crowd.
13:28You get a lot of spotlight on you when you're doing football, and you get corrections pretty quick.
13:35Like, you know, people notice when you mess up.
13:37So, candidly, what we have to base it on right now is if they had to do it tomorrow, who would do it best?
13:47Okay.
13:48So, we're feeling pretty good about this.
13:54Hello, hello.
13:57How's it going?
13:59No surprises here.
14:00We would love if you would be willing to portray the Notre Dame Leprechaun for the 2025-2026 season.
14:07Only one favor to ask is that you flip your vest inside out to portray the gold Leprechaun.
14:15Absolutely.
14:172025 will be the first year that there's the first woman portraying the role as the gold Leprechaun.
14:23Thanks.
14:23Congratulations.
14:24And so, her stepping into that gives more little girls all over the world who are Notre Dame fans, Fighting Irish fans, that they can do hard things and they can be in rooms that are traditionally filled with men.
14:37For me and for everyone that knows what Notre Dame is, they know how diverse it is and that no four students can ever perfectly encapsulate that.
14:46Though it's only right that we're here today at the Rockne Memorial to wake up these echoes before marching on to victory.
14:58At the end of the day, I just want them to have the best experience and to get to share a little bit of the magic of this place of Notre Dame.
15:06So, when I say go Irish, you're going to have to shout back at me, beat Aggies, as loud as you can.
15:14Here we go.
15:15Go Irish!
15:17We are here!
15:18Go Irish!
15:19We are here!
15:20Go Irish!
15:22We are here!
15:24Damn, it's good to be back home.
15:29I just want to make sure you guys remember, if you were here last year, the last time we were in that stadium, it was electric.
15:38And we need to make sure tomorrow night you keep that same energy and you guys go crazy.
15:45We were just down at A&M last year and it was pretty loud, but it's nothing compared to what it's going to be like tomorrow night.
15:51So, we love you.
15:54We love you.
15:55I swear we love you.
15:56We're glad to be home.
15:57And I want to thank you guys so much for coming out here and supporting us.
16:00And let's make a crazy environment tomorrow.
16:04You know, last year they said Texas A&M was going to be crazy, but they have no idea what they're walking into coming to Notre Dame.
16:09All right, let's go Irish!
16:10Go Irish!
16:11Go Irish!
16:12Welcome everyone to the 2025 Notre Dame football home opener.
16:27Tonight, a primetime matchup of two ranked teams as the 16th ranked Texas A&M Aggies make their first trip to South Bend since 2000 to clash with the 8th ranked Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
16:42I think the loss two weeks ago just put kind of an extra sense of urgency in everyone from the players, the coaches, and certainly people on the sideline are acting like it is suddenly as big of a game as you can have at this point in the season.
17:00Coach Mix said all week, he's talking about the first thing he said was, with tradition comes the responsibility of protecting this house, right?
17:07The opportunity to protect this stadium.
17:09He talked about having a sense of urgency, right?
17:14And that's got to be the consistent sense of urgency we have throughout the game, right?
17:19He talked about the opportunity, man.
17:21This is the only opportunity that matters.
17:24Nothing else matters but what we got right in front of us.
17:28Our Lady Queen of Victory!
17:29Hey, Russ!
17:30Let's go!
17:30This is the most exciting and electric atmosphere I have ever been a part of at Notre Dame.
17:40Opening drive of the game.
18:09Not even a minute gone so far.
18:11As Reed takes the snap, he'll drop and swing it out.
18:14Pass is caught.
18:16Not going to be enough, and they force a punt.
18:18One of the things we talked about was coming out of locker room and starting fast, and defense forced a punt.
18:24Jordan Faison set to return.
18:26He's standing at the Irish 22.
18:28Oh, the kick is blocked!
18:30Blocked at the 20!
18:31Loose fall!
18:32Picked double to 15!
18:33And this one's going to go for six!
18:36What a turn for the Irish!
18:38Touchdown, Notre Dame!
18:41Special teams does it again!
18:43I don't know exactly what I was doing at that moment, but I didn't even see the blocked punt.
18:52I just saw everybody going crazy.
18:54You've got to do your job.
18:55He almost took the ball away from the punter.
19:01What an amazing play!
19:04This is the Notre Dame we know.
19:09Huge momentum builder for our team and the start of that game.
19:13Well, they give it to Love.
19:16Double reverse back to Carr.
19:17He's got Reardon!
19:21Wide open down the far sideline!
19:22Caught at the 20!
19:24Inside the 10!
19:25Lunging for the pylon!
19:27And he's just shy!
19:29Razzle-dazzle for the Irish!
19:33Saw that early in the call sheet, and I was a little nervous.
19:37I didn't know how it was going to end up.
19:38What a play call, and what an execution by the offense.
19:42Mike Denbrock in his bag a little bit here early.
19:45You know, we kind of saw it develop.
19:47Saw Eli running pretty free, and then you say,
19:50hey, let's execute and throw the ball to where it needs to be.
19:54If it goes really well like it did, it's a huge burst of energy for the whole team.
20:00It's a little bit of a risk, but we execute a lot.
20:04Carr will take the snap, give it to Price.
20:05Running right, cuts inside, has a hole across the five.
20:07Still on his feet, through an arm tackle, and he's in!
20:11Touchdown, Notre Dame!
20:14The price is right for Notre Dame from seven yards out to take the lead.
20:21I didn't think we started fast enough against Miami.
20:24Reed, out of the shotgun, play fakes, looks left, throws one-on-one.
20:27Leonard Moore's there, and it's intercepted!
20:30Wow!
20:30No fly zone when 15 is in the area code!
20:34You go block, punt, and then an interception after that, so it was a great way to start the game, for sure.
20:40Irish on the move, leading by three.
20:42Carr looking on a wheel route, loves wide open, catch to the 20!
20:45He's inside the 10 for the goal line!
20:48Touchdown!
20:48C.J. Carr to Jeremiah Love!
20:5336 yards, and the Irish extend the lead!
21:00They just kind of left him naked out there, and they kind of put a ball, even probably a little too hard out there.
21:06Nobody takes Jeremiah Love, the most dangerous guy on the field for Notre Dame, and a touchdown for the Irish.
21:14When someone's that wide open, just put it on him and let him run, especially Jeremiah, but he made a heck of a catch.
21:20And there is a ton of football left!
21:25Fart.
21:27Just lofts it too high and intercepted!
21:30Scooby Williams!
21:31And this time, A&M is right there for the takeaway!
21:36A late jump pass by C.J. Carr.
21:39He'll want to have ran that one next time he looks at it.
21:50Reed takes a shotgun snap.
21:52Fires.
21:52Craver brings it in.
21:54Another dart from Marcel Reed.
21:57He's slinging it right now.
21:58Well, I think they have some explosive playmakers on the outside.
22:02We knew going into the game they were fast.
22:05And the quarterback, you know, threw some great passes, and they made some plays.
22:10Direct snap to Moss.
22:12Runs between the tackles for the goal line.
22:14Spins, and he's in!
22:15And the Aggies, for the first time all game, have the lead.
22:22Not a whole lot needs to be said, right?
22:24It's 24 to 28, right?
22:2624 is enough, but we need more.
22:28Defense, we gotta step up.
22:31Don't blink!
22:33Did yes on two?
22:34One, two, three, two, three!
22:35Carr has Fields down to the bottom along the near numbers.
22:38Takes the shotgun snap.
22:39Looking that way.
22:40Firing for Fields.
22:41Along the sideline.
22:42Goes up, and he brings it in!
22:44Oh, what a catch by Malakai Fields!
22:46On third and 13.
22:48Brings it in for 27 yards.
22:52Carr stands in a pistol formation with Price behind him.
22:55Gets the snap off, just in time.
22:57Hands it off to Price.
22:58Running left, trying to get to the edge.
23:00Stays on his feet at the 15.
23:01Gets a block at the 10.
23:02Jadarion and Price is in!
23:04Touchdown!
23:05Notre Dame!
23:06And the Irish are back on top!
23:10We have the best, you know, one-two punch at running back in the country.
23:13And all eyes are on J-Love, and then Jadarion comes in and scores two touchdowns for us.
23:20It's huge.
23:21A 17-yard scamper, and Jadarion has done it again!
23:27He is one of the most consistent players we have.
23:30You trust when he has the ball in his hands that he's going to make something positive happen.
23:36He's a selfless individual.
23:37Could be on the field every play, but he makes the most of his opportunities.
23:43And now with 9.06 left, you're looking at a drive that's going to dictate how this game plays out.
23:50The whole second half has just continued to take back the lead.
23:55We'd go up.
23:56They'd take it back.
23:57We'd take it back.
23:58They'd take it back.
23:59Carr's in the shotgun.
24:00They need their own 48 to pick up a first down.
24:04Carr drops.
24:04Looks left.
24:05Throws.
24:05Has fields.
24:06Yes!
24:07Caught it!
24:08Carr dropped it in a bucket.
24:10Incredible accuracy by C.J. Carr.
24:13It was a tight ball game, and our offense had been rolling for the majority of the game.
24:22I wanted to make sure that drive was no different.
24:25You can continue to execute.
24:27Third and a long three.
24:28They need the 17-yard line.
24:294.35 to go in the game.
24:31It's tied at 34.
24:33Carr claps for the ball.
24:34Hands it off to Price.
24:36Stutter steps in the hole.
24:37Lunges forward.
24:37He's not going to have it.
24:38It's going to be fourth and about a yard and a half, and now the decision.
24:42The communication between myself and Coach Dembrock was, hey, I was really thinking about
24:46kicking the field goal and just going up three, and then I kind of took a peek at Dembrock.
24:51We need to go for it.
24:53Pistol formation.
24:54Loves behind Carr.
24:55Play clocks at five.
24:56Now he motions out of the backfield.
24:57Loves by himself.
24:59Kind of the message was, you know, this is it.
25:02Two on the play clock.
25:03Takes a direct snap.
25:04Here goes Love.
25:05On fourth down.
25:06He's got it.
25:07Oh, what a run.
25:08Across the 15.
25:10Jeremiah Love moves the chains with six yards.
25:13Fitting that the best player on offense tonight gets his number called when they need it most.
25:20Gutsy stuff for Marcus Freeman.
25:22Then the thought process was like, okay, let's try to use some of this time.
25:27He'll give it to Love.
25:29Puts his head down.
25:29Breaks one tackle.
25:30Across the five.
25:31He's in.
25:33Touchdown.
25:34Jeremiah Love.
25:35And the Irish lead.
25:37And, you know, the next play, Jay Love scores a touchdown.
25:45With 2.53 to go in regulation, Notre Dame's on top by a touchdown.
25:5140 to 34.
25:53And Love is in the air in South Bend.
26:07Critical extra point from Burnett to make it a seven-point game.
26:12I was on the sideline.
26:13We were getting back to the iPads.
26:15Kind of heard the crowd go.
26:16Oh, no.
26:20They botched the snap.
26:21Tyler Buckner rolling left.
26:23Has to throw.
26:24Incomplete.
26:25Oh, no.
26:27They missed the extra point with a botched snap.
26:31And now A&M with a touchdown could possibly win the game.
26:37Anytime something negative happens, you're disappointed.
26:40But you got to get refocused for the defense going on the field.
26:43And so, you know, you can't dwell on the negatives.
26:46Oh, the special teams have been so good tonight.
26:50And now 40 to 34.
26:52And the pressure's really on the defense.
26:56You got to move forward and win the next play.
26:59Reed takes the snap.
27:01Throws underneath.
27:01It's caught by Craver.
27:02Has a seam across the 50 along the far sideline.
27:05Inside the 40.
27:06Shoved out of bounds by Tate Johnson.
27:08Just like that, the Aggies rip off a 35-yard play.
27:13And they're in business.
27:13They made some great plays because they had some really good players.
27:16And executed well.
27:17Fourth and goal.
27:19Notre Dame leads 40-34.
27:22The season very much on the line right now.
27:29Reed motions.
27:30Concepcion to the left.
27:32Takes the shotgun snap.
27:33Fourth and goal.
27:34Here's the ball game.
27:35Pumps.
27:35Throws for the end zone.
27:37Oh, what a catch.
27:42It's brought in by Nate Borkercher.
27:46A desperation play for the Aggies.
27:49Pays off.
27:49We had the guy covered.
27:52It was one-on-one.
27:53And the tight end made a heck of a play.
27:55The quarterback threw a great ball.
27:59You know, I wouldn't change anything we did.
28:01And that is the ball game.
28:04Texas A&M comes to South Bend and shocks the Irish.
28:09And that is a heartbreaker for Notre Dame.
28:16It stinks.
28:18Nobody wants to start the year off 0-2.
28:21Especially with the talent we have on offense, defense, special teams.
28:25But we are.
28:27You know, that's the reality of it.
28:30How do you address your team?
28:31What's important in that moment when everybody's disappointed?
28:36We've got to get back to work.
28:38You have a leader that's unshakable and unbreakable.
28:41I'm going to lead in the best way I know how.
28:44And that's fast and furious.
28:55These two losses are just devastating.
29:03I'm glad they're still in the top 25.
29:05It's still a very good football team.
29:07They just happen to have gotten beat by two better football teams.
29:16After a loss, you try to figure out why.
29:18What are the reasons?
29:19What do you guys think?
29:49I think that's spot on.
29:54We're 0-2.
29:55It's not going to change.
29:57We're not going to un-lose those games.
30:00We need to go.
30:01That's right.
30:02I trust it.
30:03I know we will.
30:04I know we have the guys, too.
30:07There's nobody else.
30:09I'd rather do it with them.
30:10You guys feel the same way.
30:12How do you think it's half of the battle?
30:15Oh, he did this, that.
30:16Nah, that's not how we play.
30:17You know what I mean?
30:18So we just got to, especially defensively, which is not executing at the same rate we did last year.
30:24You know, you have to be able to collect your thoughts by the time you meet with your team.
30:28Probably 48 hours after the game.
30:33You know, for me, it was just trying to put all the pieces together and make them understand that outcomes don't always tell the true story.
30:41You try not to be outcome-driven, but we're evaluated off of outcomes.
30:45Our focus has to be to reach our full potential, and we've got to attack ways to do that.
30:51Good.
30:52Here we go.
30:57Right, right.
30:58Yes.
30:59All right, let's roll.
31:00You all have to self-reflect and self-eval, okay?
31:06Every person in this room has got to say, okay, we didn't get it done, okay, why?
31:11What didn't I do?
31:12What didn't I do, and how do we make it better?
31:14And until we have that mentality, guess what?
31:17We ain't going to do this.
31:20Until everybody collectively says, okay, where did I fail?
31:25And not point your finger?
31:27Like, I could come in here and sit here and go, hey, guys, we're five points away from being 2-0.
31:33What's that going to do?
31:35Make me feel better?
31:36Make us feel better?
31:38The reality is we're 0-2.
31:41Don't hide from it.
31:42We're 0-2.
31:45That's where we're at.
31:47What are we going to do to get out of it?
31:49I just told the captives, it's crazy how two people can see the exact same thing and have
31:54completely different opinions about what they saw.
31:57People outside of here, Notre Dame football is 0-2.
32:01Offense is great, and the defense sucks.
32:03It's somebody, it's one person's fault.
32:05Buckner, it's your fault because you dropped Drake.
32:06It's your fault.
32:07It's Coach Aster's fault.
32:08It's Coach Freeman's fault.
32:09It's every person in this room's fault.
32:10It's every person in this room's fault.
32:16Everybody looks at last year, man, you guys had a great season.
32:19You guys been in that championship game.
32:20There was some pain.
32:21If you were in this room after New Illinois, that hurt.
32:24I'm telling you, we're going to reach this full potential.
32:27But you got to understand, there's going to be some pain.
32:29We got to go through it.
32:31You got a head coach.
32:31I swear to God, we'll go down swinging every day.
32:33There's only one way to go, and that's four.
32:37And we got to do it together, because that's what family does.
32:41And it starts with this opportunity on Saturday.
32:43Go get our first taste, okay?
32:44But it takes struggling and pain today, and evaluating and owning it,
32:49and making sure we do whatever it takes to get better.
32:52Everybody clear?
32:53Let's go to work.
32:53TGS on two.
32:54One, two.
32:55Yes.
32:57On two, we get to write our own chapter.
33:00Everything right there in front of us.
33:01That's the mindset we got to have, right?
33:04Yeah, we played well, but we ain't played well enough.
33:17None of us want to be in this situation.
33:19Losing sucks.
33:21Can't sleep, can't eat, don't want to talk to nobody.
33:24You know what, man?
33:25Roll our sleeve up, man.
33:26Let's go back to work.
33:26The only thing we know how to do is get better.
33:28Correct all the little details that we overlook.
33:36That alarm clock goes off, get up, ten toes down, go to work.
33:43We played good, but we still can elevate.
33:50Hey.
33:50You're a great player, but you're a better person.
33:55Lead this team.
33:56Let's will it to win.
34:00Yeah?
34:00Yes, sir.
34:01I grew up in Denison, Texas, which is about an hour north of Dallas, Texas.
34:21Small town where everyone really knows each other.
34:22Growing up, it was either your Texas Longhorns fans or Oklahoma Sooners fans, and I wasn't
34:33really much either.
34:35I wanted to do something different.
34:36I wanted to do something that was going to really change my life for the better and put
34:39Denison, Texas on the map and my family on the map.
34:42And that was gold to a random Catholic university in South Bend, Indiana.
34:49Hands it off to Price.
34:51JD is a playmaker.
34:53Running left, looking for the edge.
34:56JD can pretty much do it all.
34:57He can run routes.
34:58He can block.
34:59Run the ball.
35:00Turns on the Jets.
35:01JD made some incredible plays last season.
35:03I see it every single day.
35:04You know, all the eyes get pointed to J-Love, but then you put Jadarian in, and it's almost
35:09like, okay, J-Love's out of the game.
35:11And then Jadarian does the same thing J-Love does.
35:13It makes 11 players on the other team look slow, look like they can't tackle.
35:18Runs through a tackle!
35:19In my eyes, he's the best running back in the country.
35:23Jadarian Price!
35:27I've always had people looking up to me my whole life.
35:29Growing up, I was the older brother of two younger sisters, so I've always had to be
35:37the mature one.
35:38Not always leading by my voice, but just leading by example.
35:43There wasn't any male figures around.
35:46Growing up with a bunch of women in the house, definitely, I would think, made him stronger.
35:53My mom was always there and my sisters were always there, so I knew how to respect people
35:57and do the right things.
35:59Definitely, seeing his mom being a single parent, I think that molded him.
36:04Usually, you would think it would be the opposite, not having a father around.
36:08My mom played a huge role in my everyday life.
36:11She sacrificed a lot of things.
36:13Having to work a job, but also take care of three young kids, and we were all in a lot
36:17of extracurricular activities like football, basketball, track, baseball.
36:20I mean, I played it all.
36:21Her having to navigate this crazy world of sports and keeping us off the streets and things
36:29like that, I bet it was pretty challenging for her.
36:33But it was really important for me to see her do those things.
36:41At the time, I was 30 years old.
36:44At a certain age, you're supposed to do mammograms and breast examination.
36:49And once I went and made an appointment to see the doctor, they did an exam, and they all
36:56came in and closed the door.
36:57And I'm looking, and that's when I knew, and I said, you've got to be kidding me.
37:04When you feel something, it's a lump.
37:05What do you tell a 12-year-old, a 9-year-old, and a 6-year-old?
37:14I was the mature one in the household, but I still didn't really understand how serious
37:18cancer was.
37:19But then I started to look and think, now I have to step up even more for my sisters
37:24and be there for them.
37:26He was humble, still real quiet.
37:29He just observed.
37:31That's what I needed at the time.
37:32Just them being kids and just being around helped me.
37:36Just helped me knowing that I had to be around for them.
37:39Biggest thing for me and my sisters was we wanted our mom to come home from the hospital
37:43to a clean home, yard cut, kitchen clean, things like that.
37:46So just to make my mom happy any way we could because we knew she was going through tough
37:51times.
37:52There was the stages where her hair started to fall out, and that's when I started to
37:56realize, oh, this is like a serious thing.
37:58Like, she's losing her hair, and sometimes I'll walk in on her crying.
38:01And that really hit me deep.
38:04I didn't know how to take it.
38:05I didn't know what, I didn't comprehend, I guess, well, why me, why me?
38:12She didn't know how much longer she had to live at that time.
38:15When my mom was going through those tough times, for me, it was always sports where I could
38:23really push my emotions onto.
38:24You know, football, if you're angry, you can really use the football field and your abilities
38:32to just go out there and express those emotions out there.
38:35In November 2017, I was around 14 years old.
38:45When it was announced that she was cancer free, I remember it was a big thing.
38:48We all met up at this church in Denison, Texas, and the whole family was there.
38:54Everyone had on pink shirts and things like that, and that's when I really knew, like, this is
38:58very important.
39:01Thankful.
39:02Thankful.
39:03Blessed.
39:04It was a miracle.
39:05Don't really think everybody was shocked, because they already knew I was a fighter.
39:12It was so much relief, but it also had changed me forever, you know, just because she didn't
39:17have cancer anymore, she wasn't going through chemo anymore.
39:20It didn't change the fact that I was still the older brother in the household and I still had
39:25to look out for my sisters, because it was already ingrained in my brain to just, you know,
39:30work hard every day, and it motivated me still on the field, because you never know what tomorrow
39:35brings.
39:36I'm super blessed to still have my mom.
39:39Your mom is your rock.
39:43I'm blessed because not a lot of other people still have, you know, their mom and their
39:49mom or both parents.
39:52To this day, I make sure my mom comes to every game whenever she can.
40:01Amazing.
40:03The loudness, how people come together, and the support.
40:08It hadn't hit us yet, reality.
40:12It's not quite hit us yet, because we've been just going through the struggle for so long.
40:17So we're just, just taking it all in.
40:21It keeps me going.
40:23Woo!
40:24Let's go get him!
40:26I think about the 12-year-old me and everything I've gone through my whole life and now ending
40:32up at University of Notre Dame playing football at the biggest stage.
40:36Game day when we hear the song, and it really, it really hits me like this is how far I've come,
40:42and every moment up until now has really meant something.
40:45Let's go, boys!
40:47Yeah!
40:48Woo!
40:49Go get him!
40:50Go get him!
40:51Yeah!
40:52All right!
40:53Woo!
40:54The thing that comes to mind is everything happens for a reason.
40:57God always has a plan.
40:58Go get him, coach!
40:59My mom always told me that.
41:00Let's go, Orish!
41:01Let's go, Orish!
41:02Let's go, Orish!
41:03Let's go, Orish!
41:04Let's go, Orish!
41:05Let's go, Orish!
41:06Let's go, Orish!
41:09Let's go, Orish!
41:12Let's go, Orish!
41:15Let's go, Orish!
41:22Happy college football Saturday, America,
41:25and welcome to Notre Dame football.
41:30A classic college football rivalry is renewed
41:33by Duke Boilermakers and the 24th-ranked Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
41:40Let's be clear.
41:41If you want to stay in the college football playoffs,
41:43you got to start beating the brakes off the teams,
41:46and it has to start today.
41:50We're back.
41:51Here we are, man.
41:53This is the only remedy there is.
41:59It's transactional.
42:00You play harder, you out-execute them,
42:02and we get what we want.
42:07That's all you got to win.
42:09This play.
42:15Everybody clear?
42:16I'm not worried about the game.
42:17I'm not worried about the outcome.
42:18Notre Dame gets the ball now for the first time offensively.
42:21We got to win this play right now.
42:24This is the play we got to win.
42:25C.J. Carr starting his third game of his career.
42:31Takes the snap and play fakes.
42:32Carr looking.
42:33Has a clean pocket.
42:34Taking a shot.
42:35Has fields.
42:36Deep down there.
42:37He catches it at 25.
42:38Across the 20.
42:39He's in!
42:40Touchdown!
42:41Notre Dame!
42:42On the first offensive play!
42:44They strike!
42:47We knew we wanted to take a shot the first play.
42:50Great protection.
42:51Great ball.
42:52And then a great catch.
42:54Great execution.
42:55It's kind of crazy.
42:58You know, first play, first drive.
43:02Tud.
43:03And just like that, Notre Dame is on the board.
43:08Hey, where'd it go?
43:09Where'd it go?
43:10Where'd it go?
43:11Where'd it go?
43:12Where'd it go?
43:13Where'd it go?
43:14Where'd it go?
43:15You already know what I'm going to say.
43:16Coach, don't do a back clip again.
43:18Who did?
43:19Who of you scored?
43:20He did a back clip in the end zone.
43:21No, he didn't.
43:22Hey!
43:25Hey!
43:26They just warned me.
43:27Hey, they said another back clip.
43:28That's 15.
43:29That's right.
43:30Nobody's worth 15.
43:31All right?
43:35You know, set the tone for the game.
43:38Notre Dame is daring to, you know, dominate.
43:41You give it to Love.
43:42And Love's got some room to go and flash that speed.
43:47Had a way to run four.
43:48Had a way to run.
43:49Price gets his first carry running right.
43:50Has a full head of steam across the 10.
43:51Looking for the pylon.
43:52Dives for the goal line.
43:54Touchdown!
43:55Yeah!
43:56Jadarian Price from 21 yards out on his first carry of the game.
44:02Hits the end zone.
44:04That's the way to go, O.
44:06That's the way to go.
44:07Those two guys are pretty special.
44:09They're unselfish.
44:10You know, each of those guys can be on the field at every play.
44:13You can give them the ball every play.
44:15But they know there can usually only be one running back on the field at a time.
44:19They need us a turnover.
44:22Brown out of the shotgun.
44:24Looks right.
44:25Throws on a slant.
44:26Oh, it's picked off!
44:27Picked off in the secondary!
44:29Notre Dame has the football!
44:32That's what we needed.
44:33That was all because of the work of your linebackers.
44:38And that ball popped up into the open arms of Christian Gray.
44:43That's what we needed!
44:45That's what we needed!
44:46That's what we needed!
44:47That's what we needed!
44:48Let's go!
44:50Notre Dame leads 21 to 10.
44:52Carr will hand it off to Jadarian Price.
44:54He finds a hole and tries to get out to the near sideline.
44:56Good.
44:57Hard running by Jadarian Price.
44:59Third and one.
45:00Price gets the carry.
45:01Stutter Steps gets inside to the 10.
45:02He's got the first down.
45:04This is just a wonderful design game plan.
45:08Let's run the ball to the edges in between the tackles.
45:11Carr will hand it off to Price.
45:13Running to the right.
45:14Bounces outside.
45:15He's inside the five.
45:16Looking for the end zone again!
45:17And Jadarian Price is in the house for the second time!
45:21Touchdown, Notre Dame!
45:23Hell yeah!
45:24Way to finish it!
45:25I've just been informed from the officials here that there is a weather delay.
45:31Dangerous lightning too close.
45:34So they are sending players to the locker room.
45:38We're gonna suspend here.
45:40Suspend the game.
45:41Suspend the game.
45:42Let's go.
45:44Locker room.
45:45Everybody locker room.
45:46I think you have to, one, understand how long it's gonna be.
45:58You have to be able to take off your equipment, relax, and then utilize the time efficiently.
46:06And then the hardest part is the challenge is to get mentally ready to go again.
46:12Here's all I gotta say, okay?
46:13Offense, right?
46:14We have to avoid the catastrophic.
46:16Error.
46:17We know that, right?
46:18They had one chance and we had one error.
46:19Okay?
46:20They forced us to fumble.
46:21You gotta take care of the ball.
46:22But continue.
46:23All you're doing is playing harder than them and you're out executing them.
46:25So continue to do that.
46:27Okay?
46:28Defensively, you have to do your job.
46:29That's all it is, man.
46:31That's all it is, man.
46:33Do your job.
46:34Come out the locker room and let's go hunt.
46:37Everybody good?
46:38Let's go.
46:39Here we go.
46:40TGS on two.
46:41One, two.
46:42TGS.
46:43Let's go.
46:44Jadarion Price gonna get his hands on it here from one yard deep.
46:47Bring it back right to left so he can find a crease.
46:49Gets through one.
46:50Tackle.
46:51He's at the 25.
46:52Across the 30.
46:53Breaks a tackle.
46:54He's across midfield.
46:55He's gonna go all the way!
46:57Touchdown!
46:58Jadarion Price kickoff return.
47:01TD!
47:02How about Jadarion Price?
47:04He's got 199 all-purpose yards with three touchdowns in the first half.
47:11And that's really the standard.
47:13Execute no matter the circumstances.
47:15Just get your job done.
47:17Love's the back.
47:18He'll give it to him.
47:19Bounces out to the right.
47:20Puts his foot in the turf on the 40.
47:21Trying to get all the way to the outside.
47:22To the sideline.
47:23Love turns the corner of the 30.
47:24And streaking for the end zone!
47:26Touchdown!
47:27Notre Dame!
47:28What a run by Love!
47:30There's no better feeling than scoring a touchdown at your home.
47:34Notre Dame running the ball towards victory.
47:38Hey!
47:39Hey!
47:40Keep helping.
47:41Hey!
47:42That's what the team needs you to do, man.
47:43I'm proud of you, man.
47:44We need you.
47:45We need you.
47:46Good job, man.
47:47Rooze is dominating.
47:49Carr, from the shotgun, has time.
47:51Looking down the near sideline.
47:52He's got Faison.
47:5320.
47:54Catch to the 15.
47:55Inside the 10 for the end zone!
47:56Faison's in!
47:58Just a perfect ball from CJ Carr.
48:02First and goal.
48:03Price is the back.
48:05Gets the handoff.
48:06Running right.
48:07Inside for the goal line.
48:08He's in again.
48:10Another touchdown for Jadarian Price.
48:13His third on the ground and his fourth in the game.
48:19Good job, man.
48:20I think I've always said this, is that the unselfishness, that's what makes him special.
48:25He understands the leg gratification.
48:26He works.
48:27He prepares.
48:28And he takes advantage of the opportunities that are given to him.
48:32Incredible day for Jadarian Price.
48:34The kind of day that a running back can only dream on.
48:37Congrats on your first win, dude.
48:40There's a lot more to come.
48:42Sorry, all right?
48:43I'm proud of you, boss.
48:45Notre Dame has their first win of the season.
48:48They beat the Purdue Boilermakers 56-30.
48:53And the offense makes a big statement in South Bend.
48:59But the star of the show is Jadarian Price and his four touchdowns.
49:04Who would have thought that I'd be here, small town, Denison, Texas.
49:08And now I'm playing for Notre Dame.
49:10I think about it every day like this is crazy.
49:14Sometimes I have to sit back and come back to reality like this is real.
49:21I knew I wanted to be a college football player since the beginning.
49:24It was always a dream of mine.
49:25And the fact that I'm actually here at the biggest stage is truly a blessing.
49:30This is where you work hard.
49:31This feeling that we all have right now.
49:34There is no drug.
49:35There is no drink.
49:36There is nothing that could give you this type of feeling.
49:39The feeling of victory.
49:40Especially when you put everything into this.
49:43Right?
49:44And everybody now, instead of doing this, now it's time to do this.
49:48Right?
49:49When we have success, it's time to point your finger at everybody else, man.
49:52Because it's the greatest team sport there is.
49:54Appreciate the way you guys stayed together.
49:57Right?
49:58This is the start.
49:59Probably 280 days since we've been able to do this.
50:02Maybe 90.
50:03Right?
50:04You know what time it is.
50:05One, two, three.
