00:00Let's get to the highlights here.
00:01Let's start right off the top, man.
00:03Second play from scrimmage.
00:05I should have, real quick, Jalen Knoll had a great opening kickoff, too.
00:08He had two long kickoffs.
00:09I don't know what Jalen Knoll is going to turn into as a receiver.
00:12But for we draft him, he's been worth it as a return guy alone.
00:16He's been great.
00:17He's made a lot of game-changing plays.
00:19Nico Collins also has made a lot of game-changing plays in his Texans career,
00:23including this one, second play from scrimmage to the house.
00:25Second down at eight from the Houston 43-yard line.
00:28Hitser out of the gun now with Woody to his right.
00:31Here's the snap to CJ.
00:32Four-man rush.
00:33He throws over the middle.
00:34Hits Nico.
00:35Left side, 40.
00:35Breaks a tackle.
00:3630, 20, 15, 10, 5.
00:39Rock and roll.
00:41Touchdown, Houston.
00:43Fireworks early at NRG Stadium as Nico Collins takes it to the house.
00:49It just feels like such easy pickings at times when they get the right coverage.
00:54And Nico just did a little bit of a lean to the right before he cut back inside.
01:03And he just creates so much stress in defensive backs because of his ability to run vertically,
01:10but then also to break in or out or just to stop at any given time.
01:15He's so physical, too.
01:17Yeah, I know there's so many times in that game or this season in general in the career
01:21of Nico where he's an unprotected receiver.
01:23And there's times where I really feel like if he was a smaller guy, there would be a penalty
01:29and fine on the defensive back who hits him in an unprotected position.
01:33But in Nico's case, the defensive back ends up getting injured.
01:37That happened yesterday.
01:38It was all yesterday.
01:39It was almost, I don't think he was quite unprotected at the moment,
01:41but it was before he'd even really gotten started.
01:43The guy spun off of Nico and stayed down on the turf.
01:47Yep.
01:48And then Nico still took off and trucked Buda Baker.
01:50Yep.
01:51It just, he's such an, he's a, he's a, he's a Redwood.
01:55He's a, yeah, he's a Redwood riding in a Hellcat is what he is.
01:59He is great.
02:00He is, he is truly great.
02:02And, and that play right there, like when I did the defensive back who was semi-attached
02:07to him there, I'm like, oh, you're going to need to get more hands on Nico than that.
02:10You know, when he breaks the tackle on that play, it takes it to the house.
02:14So that was a, that was a great start to the game.
02:17Texans up seven, nothing right away in this game, under a minute in the, in, in the game.
02:21And they're up seven, nothing.
02:23So the Texans kick off to the Arizona Cardinals.
02:26First kickoff of the game.
02:27Here comes the return guy.
02:29And now here comes Jamal Hill.
02:31As Fairbairn gets ready to fire.
02:34And here it is right down Broadway and Brooks at the one over the five, 10, middle of the
02:41field, 20, 25, the ball is out.
02:43It's picked up by Dore.
02:44He's got it at the 21 yard line brought down there.
02:48An instant takeaway for the special teams unit.
02:52Houston has the ball in scoring range.
02:55Jamal Hill was the one who made that hit.
02:57Yeah.
02:57And the thing I really loved about this for Jamal Hill, who remember it was very raw when
03:01they drafted him very good size, good athleticism, all that, but he was raw.
03:07He was converted safety playing linebacker at Oregon.
03:10And on this play for one, he was staying disciplined and staying in his lane.
03:15He had to fight back across his blocker to stay in his lane.
03:19You talk about trusting the guys next to you and everything, but then he did exactly what
03:23you want out of your young defensive players.
03:25He made, he was making a form tackle, but at the same time getting his helmet on the ball
03:30and just pops it right out.
03:33Yep.
03:33And there's a gumboale, you know, to, to, to catch the deflection.
03:37Jamal Hill making that play right there.
03:39You know, we know about the Texans draft class last year set.
03:42The headliners were Kamari Lasseter and Kalen Bullock.
03:44I'm talking about the 2024 class.
03:47Those are the headliners.
03:48Those are guys who are going to be in the mix for the pro bowl this year.
03:50Both of those guys.
03:51Your fourth, your, your next three picks after Lasseter, Fisher and Bullock.
03:56Kate Stover, a few catches yesterday, really good blocking in the run game.
04:00Jamal Hill forces that ball.
04:03He was picked right after Jamal Hill.
04:04Jawar Jordan.
04:05I mean, you got some nice contributions from some day three picks in the 2024 draft yesterday.
04:11Yeah.
04:11And I think between some of those lesser known draft picks, but then also I thought EJ speed,
04:17you know, very budget signing for the Texans this, this year, him not being on the
04:21field was a factor yesterday.
04:22They missed him.
04:23Yeah.
04:23They missed not it.
04:24Cause they were in their base four, three, a good amount.
04:26And he's just, there's a element of speed and explosiveness and just in flat out swarm
04:32hitting that you don't necessarily have when, when he's not out there.
04:35Yep.
04:36All right.
04:36So the Texans would kick a field goal after that special teams takeaway.
04:39They would get the ball back again and get into, get into the red zone, get into that
04:45dreaded area inside the five yard line.
04:47This was one of the stranger touchdowns that we've ever seen in Texans history.
04:51A miscommunication between center and quarterback, Jake Andrews shotgun snaps a ball with CJ Stroud
04:58under center ball skips back to Woody Marks.
05:00And here's what happened.
05:01Third and goal at the one, Stroud under center.
05:03And they snap it directly to Marks who runs in.
05:06CJ got out of the way.
05:09Marks got the snap, got the touchdown, razzle dazzle.
05:13The Texans score on third and short.
05:15I don't know, Mark, if that was on purpose.
05:17It went through the leg, Jake.
05:21Marks had to pick it up off the ground.
05:23That did not fly to him through the air.
05:26All right.
05:26So, yeah, that was, that was wild.
05:29Now, you know who was mad about that?
05:30Fantasy owners.
05:32Because it was, it was scored a fumble return for a touchdown.
05:37Oh.
05:37By Woody Marks.
05:38Oh, yeah.
05:38So if you only get points for rushing touchdowns, you didn't get six points.
05:43Yeah.
05:43I have Woody Marks, but he's on my bench.
05:45Yeah.
05:46So I, but I was like, man, if I had started him, and it's playoff season now too in fantasy
05:52for people.
05:53What a shame.
05:53Yeah.
05:54Yeah.
05:54Sorry.
05:54Fantasy owners.
05:55Big losers.
05:56Woody Marks, fantasy owners.
05:57I told you, I'm going to generously give the offensive line credit for getting really
06:02good push on that play.
06:03I don't think it, it didn't look to me like the Cardinals defensive line was confused by
06:08the fumbled snap or anything.
06:09I think the offensive line fired out really well and, and just got, they, they pushed the
06:15line of scrimmage three yards deep into the end zone to the point where Woody Marks
06:19didn't even have to, you know, he ran the play that was called and he didn't, he left,
06:26but for no good reason.
06:27He left, he has, he had one more step to go into the end zone, but I think him and
06:33anticipating a wall of humanity that he had seen jumped on the two previous plays
06:37because they got stuffed and the 15 previous weeks, they got stuffed hard.
06:42The two games right before this, right up the middle.
06:44And he leapt and didn't make contact with the defender until three yards deep into the
06:49end zone.
06:49All right.
06:49Let's make sure we get these highlights in.
06:51We'll skip Ryan's on that one, Ben.
06:52Let's skip ahead here.
06:54The, so the Texans go up 17, nothing.
06:56And the Cardinals get the ball for the second time on offense.
06:59They went three and out the first time.
07:01Um, they went on a nice drive.
07:03Uh, they went on a 73 yard drive, five catches for Trey McBride on this drive.
07:10Yeah.
07:10Five.
07:11And the Cardinals would punch it in the end zone to who?
07:13Trey McBride.
07:1430 goal at the 2% under center.
07:16And Brissette steps back, fires to the end zone, caught by McBride.
07:21Touchdown Cardinals as the Texans could not stay with him.
07:25One of the, uh, tough things about this play was that they had, uh, Damian Pierce covering
07:30Trey McBride.
07:31That's what we all thought.
07:32It was number 31.
07:34Number 31.
07:35And you turned to me and you're like, who's 31?
07:38And I said, of course I know who 31 is.
07:42Like, like, oh yeah.
07:43Uh, Damone Clark, of course.
07:44Don't you know that?
07:45I saw his last name on his Jersey and I didn't know who he was.
07:49Like, who's Clark?
07:51Yeah.
07:51Uh, so I, I don't, I mean, they did put defensive backs on, uh, on Trey McBride at times.
07:57Unfortunately, it was Damone Clark.
07:59Yeah.
08:00If this game had gotten closer, do you think that they would have used either Kamari Lassiter
08:04or Derek Stingley Jr. on Trey McBride?
08:07Uh.
08:07He's clearly the biggest threat they had.
08:09Yeah.
08:09I think there were, you know, uh, yes.
08:11Yeah.
08:11I think they would have been, they would have been way more aggressive in a lot of respects.
08:14Yeah.
08:14Um, I mean, there were times in that game where you could look up and just, if you, uh,
08:18if you look up, you know, the cover two or cover four and, uh, in Wikipedia, that's
08:24exactly how they lined up.
08:25And they were just kind of playing, playing vanilla zone defense and just trying to play
08:31classic Ben, but don't break type of stuff.
08:33All right.
08:34So we continue through the second quarter here.
08:36The Texans would tack on a field goal.
08:37They would go up 23, seven.
08:39The Cardinals would get the ball back with around two minutes to go in the half and they
08:44would drive to about midfield.
08:45They get onto the Texan side of the 50 yard line and they went for it on a fourth down.
08:52It was fourth and two at the Houston 42.
08:55So they're on the fringe of field goal range to at least get some points and make it 23 to
08:5910.
09:00So they go for it about 40 seconds.
09:02So when they have fourth and two and the Texans said, nope.
09:04Fourth and two Cardinals at the Houston 42 percent shotgun, one back McBride set up left
09:10side.
09:10They're set to throw pumping and here comes a sack back at the 48 yard line.
09:16The Texans getting all over him.
09:18And it was Danico Autry powering through to the backfield to bring down Jacoby Brissett.
09:24That was good to see Danico Autry.
09:26It's good to see Danico Autry playing well.
09:28It's good to see him out there.
09:30They're going to need Danico Autry.
09:31They, I don't know what the deal is with Mario Edwards.
09:33He left the game with a chest injury.
09:35Yeah.
09:35I mean, they're getting a little thin on the, and I know Danico is sort of a hybrid
09:38guy.
09:39He plays outside.
09:39You don't want him in there on heavy rundowns.
09:42Right.
09:42Right.
09:42He's not your ideal three technique for run, run stuff.
09:45Yeah.
09:46Yeah.
09:46But they like the depth on the defensive line, you know, it's just something to keep
09:49an eye on.
09:50It's a big deal with Tim Settle out.
09:51And this is a defense that's been really good, you know, for most of the season playing
09:55four defensive tackles and rotation.
09:57Last week they went down to three and now you're in that moment where there's, there's
10:02times where they're going to have to be lighter in body weight if, you know, depending on how
10:07much depth they have, uh, you know, there were times yesterday where they had to be in
10:11a four, three, but it meant that Christian Harris is out there as a linebacker as opposed
10:16to having Jalen Petrie be the nickel linebacker.
10:19And the, the, the last three games of the season, the health of the defense is paramount
10:26because they've been the best defense in football, but it's with most of their guys
10:32out there.
10:32Yeah.
10:32Some of these injuries that they're starting to sustain now, you can see where versus
10:36better offenses, it's, it's going to be a lot harder to be that, that peak, a number
10:40one off the defense.
10:41Autry embarrassed that poor guy on this.
10:43It was, you know, I, and I was wondering if the, the guard had maybe caught his heel in
10:47the turf or something.
10:48No, Autry just jacked, shoved him back in the test plate and took him right back into
10:55the quarterback.
10:55Yep.
10:56So Autry, Danico Autry gets the sack.
10:57So the Texans get the ball at about midfield.
11:00They drive the ball into field goal range.
11:02Would have been a long field goal.
11:03Field goal gets blocked.
11:04So the Texans go into halftime up 23 to seven Cardinals get the ball to start the second half
11:09and they go on a nice little drive.
11:1111 plays, 53 yards.
11:12They burn about six minutes of clock for a team that was down 16.
11:16They operated awfully casually at times in the second half of this game.
11:19Nevertheless, they drive into Texans territory.
11:22But as Jacoby Brissett has done in each of the last four games prior to yesterday, Seth,
11:28he threw an interception.
11:29Now Carter motions out left laterally.
11:31Brissett with time.
11:33Fires downfield to the end zone.
11:34Picked off by Lasseter.
11:37Kamari with the IT to stop the drive.
11:40Another Texans takeaway.
11:42What a great play by Kamari.
11:45It was looking, you know, Kamari had outside leverage on that and Kalen Bullock got pulled over
11:51away from it.
11:54And it, this was a classic moment of man, Jacoby Brissett and this offense.
11:59It's just, it's not the same as some of the other ones.
12:02And Kamari was, Kamari was in good position to take advantage of it.
12:05But it was also just, it was being very opportunistic in that moment.
12:10It was a good catch too.
12:11I mean, it was not an easy play.
12:13So Kamari gets the interception there.
12:15He does almost a full backflip at the end of it.
12:18He landed in the Wolverine.
12:19Yeah, I'm not into that.
12:19I don't need him doing things that he could hurt himself on.
12:22On the TV copy, it was hilarious because all you see is him going up for the backflip.
12:27And then he disappears down and Kalen Bullock standing there just looking at him and you
12:32don't know whether, whether he was injured or Kalen Bullock is just curious to see where
12:36all of this was going.
12:37And, uh, but he did the, he pulled the Wolverine pose.
12:40All right.
12:40So the teams would exchange touchdowns.
12:42We're going to skip ahead to the fourth quarter.
12:44The Texans would take that interception, turn it into an 80 yard drive on eight plays for
12:49a touchdown to Dalton Schultz.
12:51The Cardinals would respond with a touchdown to Michael Wilson, who the Texans shut down in
12:57the first half, but he got things going in the second half, 30 to 14 headed into the
13:02fourth quarter.
13:04Um, and then Woody Marks went out of this game with an ankle injury and it turned into
13:08the Jawar Jordan show in the big play here for the Texans was a 50 yard run by Jawar Jordan
13:15that helped set up a, uh, that helped set up a, uh, a field goal.
13:20I believe on this drive, this was Jawar Jordan, longest run of the year from, from scrimmage
13:23for the Texans.
13:24First half of the Houston 34, CJ tosses the ball to Jordan, starts right, cuts left, 40,
13:3145, open field, 50, the 40, left side, 30, 25, 20, and brought down inside the 15 yard
13:38line.
13:40What a run Jawar Jordan takes the ball into the red zone.
13:44Yeah.
13:44Take that back.
13:44This was part of the drive that set up the Schultz touchdown.
13:47I had that wrong.
13:47They ended up having a nice, after this, uh, they were, it was third down when CJ made the
13:52really nice play to throw to a gumbo Wally first down, down in the red zone and then
13:56the touchdown to short to Schultz.
13:58Yup.
13:58So I had the sequence wrong.
13:59So that was a 50 yard run.
14:00Have you watched the, have you rewatched the 50 yard run to see?
14:03Yeah.
14:04Um, for one, I wanted to see CJ had referenced that he, he tried to get down there and block
14:08for him.
14:08He showed up on the screen.
14:10He showed up on the screen.
14:11He was, he carried out the bootleg and was just kind of standing there.
14:14And when he saw that it broke back across the left side of the field, he would have
14:17looked for contact.
14:18Down the field.
14:18Yeah.
14:19Yeah.
14:20I, uh, I don't need him doing that either.
14:22I think there were a couple of good things on that aside from Jawar Jordan doing a great
14:25job cutting back across the grain.
14:27And also I think that Jawar Jordan and Woody Marks and their ability to run to the outside
14:31is really doing a nice job setting up these bootlegs.
14:34So there's that.
14:35But also I think in the first half of the season, somebody would have screwed something up where,
14:42uh, Cade Stover had a situation where he had to kind of pull off to keep from turning
14:46into a block in the back, but then downfield to Nico Collins was having to play that game
14:51of, you know, do I block this guy?
14:53Wait a second.
14:53That's going to be a block in the back.
14:55And then he started boxing them out a little bit.
14:56Yep.
14:57Um, it was just a, a really good job by everybody, including the, a tight end blocking and a
15:03wide receiver blocking on that play.
15:05Yep.
15:05So that would set up Jawar Jordan real quick.
15:07Yeah.
15:08There's a, then again, this is the, I like to, to paint a picture of how much of a breakout
15:13that was for Jawar Jordan up to that point, he'd had a game, uh, a run for no game, a
15:20run for two yards, a run for no game, a run for three yards, a run for four yards, and
15:26then boom, a run for 50, a run for 50 yards.
15:29Yeah.
15:29And then, then Jawar Jordan would get it.
15:32The final touchdown drive.
15:35I know he got, you know, half his yards came on that one run, literally.
15:38Um, but on the final touchdown drive for the Texans, so the Texans would get the ball back
15:44in the fourth quarter with about seven and a half minutes to go.
15:47And they'd go on a 10 play, 55 yard touchdown drive, two yard run by Jawar Jordan.
15:52And then you had a 24 yard pass to Nico Collins, where he ran over a couple more guys like
15:56Nico was just leaving bodies out there, man.
15:59Um, Jawar Jordan for three yards, then Jawar Jordan for 10 yards, Jawar Jordan for five yards
16:05that, and then Jawar Jordan had another 12 yard run in there along the way.
16:09Like they rode Jawar Jordan down into the, um, down into the, uh, into the red zone on
16:15that final drive.
16:16And ultimately it would wind up with a short pass to Nico Collins on third down.
16:22Here's the snap from Andrews.
16:23CJ in the pocket.
16:25CJ throwing back at the end zone.
16:27Caught Nico Collins.
16:28Touchdown Houston.
16:30Touchdown pass number three of the day for CJ Stroud.
16:33Niko Collins with his second TD reception of the afternoon and the Texans are blowing
16:40out Arizona.
16:41Yeah, that was game over right there.
16:42Yeah.
16:42Jawar Jordan got them down there and it was first and goal at the three and they decided
16:47to run that Daria Gumbawale.
16:49I don't know what was supposed to happen on that play.
16:51Xavier Hutchinson's coming around on an end around or something.
16:54This, uh, this touchdown, the interesting thing about this was that Buda Baker was manned
16:59up on Dalton Schultz and that helped clear out the middle of the field.
17:02So Buda, I mean, Dalton Schultz having a good enough game that Buda Baker's manned up on
17:07and then the Cardinals linebackers just kind of lost in space as staring into the backfield
17:13as Nico Collins is just rocketing across the back of the end zone.
17:17Yep.
17:17And it's always, I mean, a really good job of CJ understanding exactly what was going
17:22on in that play and that he was going to have that opportunity.
17:25All right.
17:25So there you go.
17:25Those are the highlights of the game.
17:26Those are the ones we cherry picked out of there in a game with a lot of highlights,
17:2940 to 20, the final score.
