00:00You are about to meet the suspects, weapons, and rooms of the VCR mystery game, Clue.
00:20Watch carefully, and I'll be back in a few minutes to tell you about the game.
00:30I'll be back in a few minutes, and I'll be back in a few minutes.
00:59White wine.
01:12Colonel Mustard.
01:13White wine, Mrs. P. Mark.
01:26Mr. Green.
01:39Professor Plann.
01:43Er, no, thank you, Mrs. White.
01:44What time is it?
01:56Hmm, there's no clock in here.
01:57Then what does that sound?
01:58Sorry, I'm timing a roast.
01:59Well, I don't trust her.
02:00That's all I have to say.
02:01You don't think we're having roast?
02:02Not her.
02:03That body woman.
02:04Madam Roach.
02:05Yes.
02:06Don't you think it's strange that she should invite us back here so soon after her brother's murder?
02:14Poor Mr. Body.
02:15Poor Mr. Body.
02:16Police never did find out who killed him.
02:17You don't have a clue.
02:18Could have been anyone.
02:19You're all here.
02:20Good.
02:21I suppose you're wondering why I invited you all back so soon after my poor brother's day.
02:24Never gave it a thought.
02:25I'm anxious to hold a seance.
02:26Communicate with his spirit.
02:27I thought bringing back all his old friends.
02:28Ah, there is another reason I almost forgot.
02:29The lawyer.
02:30Lawyer.
02:31What lawyer?
02:32Mr. Body.
02:33You don't have a clue.
02:34You don't have a clue.
02:35Could have been anyone.
02:36You're all here.
02:37Good.
02:38I suppose you're wondering why I invited you all back so soon after my poor brother's day.
02:40Never gave it a thought.
02:41I'm anxious to hold a seance.
02:45Communicate with his spirit.
02:47I thought bringing back all his old friends.
02:50There is another reason I almost forgot.
02:52The lawyer.
02:53Lawyer?
02:54What lawyer?
02:55Mr. Brunette, where are you?
03:00Sorry to be late.
03:02How's it where they are now?
03:04There seems to be some irregularity in Mr. Body's will.
03:09Irregularity?
03:10You see.
03:12I assume everyone here knows each other.
03:15No strangers?
03:16No strangers.
03:18Good.
03:20This page, a stranger.
03:23Hello there.
03:25It's just poor and cats and dogs.
03:27I was wondering if maybe I could use your phone.
03:30I seem to have got my silly self lost.
03:32Go right ahead.
03:34My car's on the bridge.
03:36I hope that's okay.
03:37Why is the river?
03:39Pardon?
03:40Will we be able to leave here tonight?
03:42The river's flooded.
03:43The river's flooded.
03:45Roger Gray, the police.
03:48Folks!
03:49The bridge is washed out.
03:51Total loss.
03:52Washed out?
03:53Somebody parked their car on it.
03:54Oh dear.
03:55What with the rickety timbers and the flood.
03:58Looks like we're all stuck here for the weekend.
04:06Welcome to Body Mansion.
04:08I am the butler.
04:09Did it.
04:10One to five murders will be committed here this weekend and it's up to you to solve them.
04:15Ten suspects are in the mansion.
04:17Some will be murderers.
04:18Some will be victims.
04:20I am never a victim or murderer.
04:22You have just witnessed the introduction.
04:24If you already know how to play, then get on with it.
04:27If you've never played before, I've prepared a special introductory game based on the action you've just seen.
04:33The object of the game is to discover who are the murderers and victims.
04:37The room in which each murder took place and which weapon was used.
04:41First thing, make sure everyone takes a sheet from the detective notepad.
04:46This fact sheet will help you keep track of what you learn about the suspects, room and weapons.
04:52Just for this introductory game, let's forget about the part on the left that says players.
04:57That's an exciting part of the game, but I'll explain that later.
05:00Now we look up the details in the case book.
05:03We're going to play game one.
05:05Let's see.
05:06Oh, three murders.
05:07Busy, busy.
05:08That's three victims, three different murderers, three rooms and three weapons.
05:13That means to solve this case, you must complete the first three lines of this accusation.
05:18And to do that, you have to play the cards.
05:21There are three kinds of cards.
05:23The colorful clue cards, the gray investigation cards and the black suspect cards.
05:28For this game, we'll use only the blue clue cards and the investigation cards.
05:32Put all the other cards away.
05:34I'll explain them later.
05:36Shuffle the investigation and clue cards together and deal out five to each player.
05:40Stop the tape until you've finished dealing.
05:42The clue cards show facts numbered one to six, each pertaining to a different mystery game.
05:53We are playing game one, so only the fact numbered one on your clue cards will count for this game.
05:58At the end of each fact is a scene number to which it refers.
06:02All the facts in game one refer to the introduction.
06:05If you remember what you've just seen, you can start to solve the mystery right now.
06:09Your fact sheet will help.
06:11Grab a pencil and we'll do it together.
06:13I have a fact that says the woman who wore the red dress committed murder with the knife.
06:18That was Miss Scarlet.
06:20She's a murderer and her weapon was the knife.
06:23Now mark all that down on your fact sheet.
06:26Now let's try another.
06:28The weapon held by Mrs. Peacock was used to commit murder in the kitchen.
06:33Now Mrs. Peacock held the knife, so that means the knife was used in the kitchen.
06:39I can note that by connecting them.
06:41But if I know that Miss Scarlet used the knife and the knife was used in the kitchen, Scarlet committed murder in the kitchen.
06:49I can enter that right here on the accusation.
06:52Now, who was it she bumped off?
06:55Another fact.
06:56The man who smoked a cigar died in the room with brown tile floor.
07:02Green smoked a cigar, so he's a victim.
07:05But brown tile?
07:07I'll make a note till it comes to me.
07:12Of course.
07:13The kitchen.
07:14Green died in the kitchen.
07:16That makes him Scarlet's victim and we've solved one of the three murders in this game.
07:20Are you grasping the idea?
07:22Clue cards give you information.
07:24You want to keep them secret if you can.
07:27Investigation cards give you opportunities.
07:29Most investigation cards give you a choice of things to do.
07:33On some cards there's something about personal identity facts.
07:36Ignore that just for now.
07:38Pick one of the other options instead.
07:41You might get to steal a clue card.
07:43Any one you want from an opponent's hand.
07:45Or you might ask someone to give you a clue card.
07:48One that he or she selects.
07:50You might ask another player to read a fact aloud.
07:52Or you might be forced to read one yourself.
07:55When you do read a fact aloud, state the scene to which it refers.
07:58Clue cards that are read aloud become public evidence and are taken out of the game.
08:03Keep them in the top of your game box.
08:05Anyone may look at them at any time.
08:07Investigation cards must be read, played, and then put face up in the discard pile.
08:13Some investigation cards let you bury clue cards from your hand by placing them in the discard pile with your investigation card over them.
08:20That's a good way to keep juicy facts secret for a while.
08:23You also get the chance to replay a scene.
08:25In this game there's only one scene, the introduction.
08:27But in the real game there are five scenes full of information you might want to review.
08:32The game starts with the player on my left.
08:35If you have an investigation card, you must play it.
08:38If you're holding more than one, decide which you'll play first and which you'll hold to your next turn.
08:42If you don't have any investigation cards, then pick a new card from the stack.
08:47If it's an investigation card, play it right away.
08:50If it's a clue card, keep it and let the next player go.
08:53The only time you pick a card is when it's your turn to play and you have no investigation cards.
08:58When all the cards in the stack are gone, shuffle the discard pile and place it face down to make a new stack.
09:04When you think you've solved the mystery, wait till your next turn, then announce that you're ready to make an accusation.
09:11Use this special red filter to reveal the solution in the casebook.
09:15Now if you're right, announce your findings and dazzle us all.
09:19If you're wrong, you're out of the game.
09:21Return your cards to the discard pile and be a good loser.
09:25After you've proved your brilliance in game one, return to this spot in the tape.
09:30And I'll fill you in on the suspect cards and your personal identities.
09:34Now, there are still two murderers on the loose.
09:37Player on my left, if you have an investigation card, use it.
09:41If you don't, pick a card from the pile.
09:43Now, stop the tape.
09:45It's time to play.
09:54Now you're ready to play a full game.
09:56Select a game from the casebook.
09:58You'll need the investigation and suspect cards and the clue cards that match the chapter you're playing.
10:03If this is your first full game, I would recommend playing game two on the blue cards.
10:08The low number games are easier than the high numbers.
10:11To play a real game, each of you will be one of the suspects.
10:15And to win the game, you must determine not only who done it, but who's who.
10:20Everyone pick a suspect card.
10:22Look at it and put it aside where no one will see it.
10:25Now, write the names of the other players in the columns on your fact sheet.
10:29Then write your name next to your suspect.
10:31That's your personal identity for the game.
10:34The others will try to learn who you are from information that you supply.
10:38As you watch the action, pay attention to your suspect.
10:43Whenever you're asked to reveal a fact about your identity, you must say something true based on your observation.
10:48Like, I'm a female or I wear glasses.
10:51There are a few important rules about personal identity facts in your case book.
10:56Now, read this section aloud before beginning.
10:59Your fact sheet will help you keep track of information.
11:02If Joe tells me he's playing a female, I can eliminate all the male suspects under his name.
11:08If I learn that Patty is Miss Peach, I'll write her name here.
11:13And since no one else could be Peach, I'll eliminate her for all the other players.
11:19I can do the same for my own suspect.
11:22Any remaining suspect cards are shuffled in with the investigation and clue cards and are counted as facts.
11:28Now, if I pick a suspect from the deck, I know that none of the players represents that suspect.
11:33I can cross him or her off as a possibility for everyone.
11:37Hmm. That means Joe is either Peacock or Rose.
11:41Now, if you are asked to read or give away a clue card, you can use a suspect card that you've picked up from the deck.
11:47And you can steal a suspect card the same way you steal clue cards.
11:51Uh-uh. Not that one.
11:54The suspect cards make the game much more exciting.
11:58And the ending can be very suspenseful. I'll show you.
12:01You've watched all five scenes.
12:03You've continued playing your cards until you know the solution.
12:06So, write down the murderers, the victims, the rooms, and the weapons here on your fact sheet.
12:12Then look up the solution.
12:14If you're wrong, return your clue cards to the discard pile.
12:18But keep your suspect cards and stick around in case someone asks you for a personal identity fact.
12:24If you're right about the murders, the next step is to announce the other players' personal identities.
12:30Your opponents must confirm your identifications.
12:33If you're correct for everyone, then announce your solution to the mystery and win the game.
12:39If you get any of the identifications wrong, stop there.
12:42Regular play continues for one more suspense round.
12:45Any player who can, on this last round, solve the mystery and correctly identify all the other players steals the win away from you.
12:54If no one can do this, then you must be the best detective after all.
12:58On your next turn, complete the accusation and win the game.
13:02Well, that's all I have to say. Happy hunting, whoever you are.
13:12Chapter One, The Will.
13:16Let me out! Let me out of here, honey! I've got to get out!
13:21Listen, you can't leave now. It's pouring on someone.
13:24I'm no fool. Trapped in a mansion. Cut off from civilization. We're all going to die.
13:30Now, your car is in the river.
13:32I can't!
13:33Nothing's going to happen to us.
13:35Of course not!
13:37I can swim to the next town.
13:39Come into the kitchen and relax.
13:41Plums make the popcorn.
13:44I will have the professor's formula by morning.
13:47I must cut off now.
13:49It makes me feel so safe having a policeman with us.
14:09Policeman?
14:10You.
14:11Oh, um... I think I have amnesia.
14:16You have had it a long time?
14:19Ever since I can remember.
14:21I've developed an exciting new formula. It's a floor wax.
14:25My, my.
14:26Actually, it's a lousy floor wax. But a terrific poison.
14:30Poison, honey?
14:32Completely undetectable.
14:34Just how did your brother die?
14:37Two of us went on an elephant hunt in Guinea, celebrating Reggie's inheritance of the family money.
14:42A shot in the back.
14:44Did they ever find who did it?
14:47Near as we can figure, the elephant somehow managed to get his paws on the gun.
14:52It was a struggle.
14:53I suppose you were next in line.
14:55I don't follow you.
14:56The family money.
14:58Ah, yes, of course.
14:59Scum.
15:00Mrs. Weigle.
15:01You don't know them like I do.
15:03I know their little secrets.
15:05I hear you're in business.
15:07What kind?
15:08None of business.
15:09My card.
15:12Like the monsoons of Sumatra.
15:21Remember that summer in Sumatra.
15:24I was never in Sumatra.
15:27I think hemlock is quite acceptable.
15:33But curare is better.
15:35Like my daddy always says, give me a good neuromuscular poison any day.
15:40Yes, yes.
15:41Yes, yes.
15:43Yes, yes.
15:44Yes, yes.
15:45Come on.
15:46Stop the tape and everyone give a personal identity fact.
15:49Then play a round of cards before viewing this scene.
15:52Miss Peach
15:57Melba, honey
15:58I've never ever been to a will reading
16:01Monsieur Buddy
16:02He made out this will a few days before he died
16:06A new will?
16:07You cannot trust anyone
16:09Phooey
16:09It seems Monsieur Buddy suspected you, his old friends
16:17Of wanting to kill him
16:19That's ridiculous
16:20Are we disinherited now?
16:23No, that's the strange part
16:25I wish that all who attend the reading of my will
16:29Be declared my legal heirs
16:31According to the following conditions
16:33Wow
16:35It's nice to know he didn't hold a grudge
16:37Does this include strangers?
16:39Maybe you ought to leave
16:40What about strangers?
16:42It says all who attend
16:44Miss Peach, Sergeant Gray, you are in on the deal
16:49I'm an heiress
16:51That's not fair
16:53The only trouble is
16:54None of us can get our hands on the money
16:56Until all the others are dead
16:59What kind of a will is that?
17:03Just like that business in Borneo, remember?
17:05I was never in Borneo
17:07Is this some sort of joke?
17:10I'm afraid not
17:11It is a kind of longevity game
17:14But something like that will just take years and years
17:17And I must say I do have an unfair advantage being so young comparatively
17:22I mean, what are the odds, let's say, of someone like Mrs. Peacock outliving someone like me?
17:28Is it possible to get out of this?
17:31This document is to be read at a weekend party
17:34In the hope that all of my dear friends will kill each other wrong
17:38There's got to be a way of breaking this will
17:40Trying to make us kill each other
17:42Ridiculous
17:43The butler's not in on this
17:44Somebody make a note
17:45Before viewing this scene
17:49Play a round of personal facts
17:51Followed by a round of cards
17:52Professor
18:00Professor
18:01Do you have to do your experiment here?
18:04Am I in your way?
18:05There are bathroom sinks
18:06But I need the heating element in the, the, uh, kitchen
18:10Well, don't blame me if your experiment winds up in the soup
18:13There you are
18:15You've not dressed for dinner yet
18:17What do you mean you're not hungry?
18:21I see what you mean
18:23Poison
18:24Oi!
18:26Did someone say poison?
18:28Oh, really, Mr. Green
18:29Everyone's getting so upset over that silly will
18:32I guess it is silly
18:34The idea of us killing each other
18:36Silly idea
18:37Just for a couple of million dollars
18:40See you later
18:43Is there anything I can do?
18:48That's very nice
18:50There's a salt shaker there
18:51Needs filling
18:52Easy as pie
18:59Mr. Body was quite the fuss budget
19:05He used to make me taste everything before he'd eat
19:08Except salad
19:11He never made me taste the salad
19:14Are you hungry, young man?
19:19Sergeant
19:19Um, Sergeant Gray
19:22How about handing me that red pepper over there?
19:27It was a pleasure working for him
19:29Twenty-five years
19:31Shame he had to die
19:33Is that all right?
19:34Oh, yes, thank you, dear
19:35People just naturally gravitate for a kitchen, don't they?
19:39Would you hand me that green pepper, too?
19:41My second husband loved my cooking
19:45Poor Howard
19:46Amazing the way toadstools can look like mushrooms
19:48Toadstools?
19:50Yes
19:50Lucky for me, I don't eat fungi
19:52Can I be of any help?
19:54No
19:54No, thanks
19:55The salt shaker's done
19:57Oh, my
19:58Poison
19:59You should never leave poison around food
20:01What's that?
20:03I thought I saw something at the window
20:05Where?
20:06There, by the window
20:06How could you see at the window?
20:08The shade's pulled
20:09Oh, my mistake
20:10What are you doing?
20:13Oh, this is good for the wine
20:14It helps it to breathe
20:15White wine doesn't need to breathe
20:17Oh, my mistake
20:18Anything I can do to help?
20:20No
20:21Marbu, my deaf and mute man-servant
20:23Used to love my cooking
20:25Poor man
20:26How did he die?
20:28Train wreck
20:29Poor
20:29Ah!
20:32Madame Rose!
20:34What's wrong?
20:35My God, she's dead
20:37But I don't think the knife hit her
20:38Near as I can figure them
20:40The knife slipped off the wall
20:42Flew across the room
20:44And, uh, missed her by a hair
20:46In some sort of freak accident
20:48Are you all right, madam?
20:50Hate to think of anything happening to you
20:53What kind of death trap have you got me into?
20:56Everything will be fine
20:58Before viewing this scene
21:11Play a round of personal facts
21:13And a round of cards
21:15My, my, what a colourful idea
21:32I'm afraid our little secret is out
21:35Mrs. White is colour-blind
21:38The table looks nice
21:40Lovely
21:41Thank you, madam
21:42I'm afraid we'll have to serve ourselves
21:45It's the butler's night out
21:47And it's very strict about it
21:49A bit of self-sufficiency
21:51Just like in the pond, yeah
21:53Where did you ever find
21:55Did it?
21:56That is his name
21:57Oh, yes
21:58He gave it good references
22:00A pair of brothers in Massachusetts
22:03Spoke very highly of him
22:05The Parkers
22:06Who wants white wine?
22:09Not me
22:10White wine for me
22:11I prefer red myself
22:13Miss Scarlet, a bit of red?
22:16Certainly
22:17Your glass
22:18Mrs. White seems so devoted
22:20She seems so
22:22A little white for me
22:24Don't stand on ceremony
22:26Start in
22:27Anyone else?

24:01Hates you?
24:03Passionately
24:04I'm surprised she hasn't tried to kill me
