00:00Monday night football, a massive game in the AFC and the NFC standings here.
00:04The Philadelphia Eagles travel to Los Angeles today to take on Jalen Hurts, Justin Herbert, Chargers at home.
00:11We'll see if the Eagles have more fans actually on a coast-to-coast travel day than the Chargers have.
00:16But how about this, Joe?
00:17The three-and-a-halves that we saw the opening line at, now we're seeing it down to one-and-a-halves and twos in the marketplace.
00:2241-and-a-half listed as the total tonight.
00:24Justin Herbert, broken hand, non-throwing hand.
00:27Jalen Hurts looking to get that offense untracked in this one.
00:29No Jalen Carter for the Philadelphia Eagles.
00:32How does this one play out?
00:33And what's your spread line tonight, Joe?
00:35Well, it's interesting, Donnie, right?
00:36Because we're still seeing tickets and money on Philadelphia, and yet the line keeps moving towards the Chargers.
00:43So it's clear that there is certainly the bigger, more influential bettors are not.
00:49They're out on Philadelphia in this spot, traveling across the country to take on the Chargers.
00:55And really, it comes down to here we are in week 14, Donnie.
00:58Are you what we see?
01:00Can we believe our eyes with this offense or not?
01:04Keep an eye on the Chargers and who's going to be available to them in the backfield.
01:08Is Hampton going to go here?
01:10We know they have issues on the offensive line.
01:13The total is fascinating to me.
01:15This looks a lot like the same total we just had last night, Donnie, with Kansas City and Houston.
01:21Two teams probably much better defensively than offensively.
01:25Could this be another one of these 2013 games?
01:28The market seems to think so.
01:30Ah, boy, we are just getting started on Armchair Quarterback Monday.
01:34College football playoff.
01:35Absolutely hot topics continue.
01:37And we'll get to those in just a few moments as well.
01:39But let's get some hardcore action right now on the football field.
01:43Sonny, right side.
01:44Show in here.
01:44It's Tom Vecchio.
01:45Tommy.
01:45Monday.
01:46So much happened over the weekend, man.
01:47We've got a lot to get to today.
01:49We've got a lot to get to today.
01:51Yeah, we do.
01:51More injuries, playoff spots being taken away over the weekend.
01:55I will say tonight's game is really interesting from a number of different perspectives.
02:00The total is interesting.
02:01The injuries that we're having with players coming back, there's a ton to discuss.
02:05No, there is a lot to discuss.
02:07And yesterday, Tom, just take a look at some of those football games, the way they played out yesterday.
02:11I enjoyed myself.
02:12Had a pretty good day.
02:13But I do want to talk to you about that Texans-Chiefs game.
02:15I thought that game we played to and under, it did.
02:17I thought the Texans win, they did.
02:19And you saw three offensive linemen, Tom, down before the game started.
02:22One play into it.
02:23They're down another tackle.
02:25There was no way that the Chiefs should have been able to compete yesterday.
02:28They actually did.
02:29They made some interesting decisions on fourth downs.
02:31But talk to me, Tommy.
02:33Chiefs, six and seven.
02:34Is it a wrap?
02:36You know, my biggest takeaway from that game is that the Texans' offense is not good enough.
02:41And their defense is awesome.
02:43And, you know, we got to halftime.
02:44I was doing the game last night with Brady.
02:46You know, we got to halftime.
02:48And I was like, okay, it's 10-0.
02:49This game should have been 20-0 based on just the way it felt.
02:52And then the Chiefs come back into it.
02:55And the Texans have chances to put the game away and go up by three possessions and, like, really put the nail in the coffin.
03:00But they didn't.
03:01And credit to the Chiefs' defense because they did their part.
03:04The Chiefs' offense didn't do their part.
03:05But also, there's, like, there's no it factor for the Texans on offense, at least, where it's like, why are you not putting teams away?
03:11Why are you letting teams hang around when you have a top-two defense in the league?
03:15These games should be done and dusted by halftime.
03:18But they're not.
03:18Yeah.
03:20It was a 10-10 game heading into the fourth quarter at Arrowhead.
03:24Kansas City's got no excuse.
03:26Injuries are no excuse.
03:27You had exactly what you wanted in that spot there.
03:31And then you didn't execute down the line.
03:34Ray Rice drops a first down pass, which makes absolute wide open.
03:38So, you got nobody to blame but yourself here.
03:41But moving forward, congratulations, Texans.
03:44You win your fifth straight.
03:46To your point, what's the ceiling for this team, Tom?
03:49Yeah.
03:50The ceiling is what we saw last year when the Chargers go into Houston and Herbert threw four picks, if I remember correctly.
03:58And it's like, well, they're going to win the game.
04:00The Texans are going to win the game.
04:01And Stroud's going to throw for 210 yards and maybe a touchdown, one running touchdown.
04:05They have a defensive touchdown.
04:06All of a sudden, they win the game 24-14.
04:10And it's like, well, they won the game.
04:11They covered.
04:12But how good did they look?
04:15Yeah.
04:15Look, it's going to be an interesting one to play out at this point.
04:18You love the defense that the Houston Texans bring to the table.
04:20But also, take a look at, you know, it's amazing that the Chiefs are not going to make the playoffs.
04:24Like, as long as you have Andy Reid and Patrick Holmes, it shouldn't matter who else you had.
04:27They just can't win one-score games.
04:28And also, you do see the panic start to set in.
04:31Fourth and one on your own 30-yard line.
04:32You don't even hand off to Kareem Hunt, who's an automatic first down.
04:35Like, third and ones and fourth and ones or less.
04:37You pass it.
04:37You lose the football game right on that spot.
04:39Tonight, Tom, we got a good one, though.
04:41And a lot of questions, as you said.
04:43The Eagles are favorites here.
04:45Slipping here.
04:45One and a half, two and a half, depending where you're shopping at.
04:47Total very low.
04:48From 42 and a half to opening numbers.
04:50We saw 40 and a half's out there.
04:51Now back up to 41 and a half.
04:53Herbert's got the broken hand, but it's his non-throwing hand.
04:56The Eagles struggling a bit on offense.
04:57The one thing that we do like, though, you don't have to worry about any weather conditions.
05:01It's in a dome.
05:01Does that play up to the offense, or what are the expectations, Tom, for you tonight in
05:05this Monday Night Football game?
05:07You know, when Brady and I were briefly discussing this game last night, you know, I said if this
05:10total was 45 or 44 and a half, I would love the under.
05:14I would absolutely love the under in that spot.
05:1641's a tough, it's a tough number, knowing that you can have, like, a modest offensive game
05:20and still lose your bet.
05:21There's so many different things pulling in different directions.
05:24First off, with Herbert coming back, as you said, coming back, but he had surgery last
05:28week on his non-throwing hand, I don't know if dropping him back 35 or 40 times is a plan
05:34to win, considering that the Chargers have had plenty of offensive line issues literally
05:38since training camp this season.
05:40So we know that Amari and Hampton, their rookie running back, is coming back.
05:43So this leads me immediately to look at a Herbert under 32 and a half pass attempts as
05:48one of my favorite props.
05:49We see the Chargers with a 58 pass play percentage on the season.
05:52That has dropped to 50% over the last three weeks.
05:55That is bottom eight in the league.
05:56With Hampton coming back and Herbert dealing with this hand injury, him being exposed to
06:01more hits is not the game plan.
06:03Vidal was a viable running back when Hampton was out.
06:06Now you have him, you have Hampton back.
06:09I don't think they're both going to run for 100 yards, as we saw last week with the Bears,
06:12Joe, when we did that game.
06:13But at least you have competency in the backfield, plus Herbert throwing the ball 25 times.
06:17Just don't expose him to extra hits.
06:19He gets hurt one more time.
06:20Their season's actually done.
06:21This feels, doesn't it, Tom, like a Harbaugh kind of game.
06:28He is going to take the air out of the ball.
06:30He is going to move.
06:31We just watched the Bears do it.
06:34And really, at week 14 here, Tom, is there anybody redeeming on Philadelphia's offense,
06:38even the back in the prop betting market or in this game?
06:42To me, it would be A.J. Brown.
06:44That's the only player that I like this week.
06:46We could talk about the off-field things.
06:47We could talk about the locker room, the quotes, this, the, that.
06:50You know, realistically, he's had 300-plus-yard games over his last five.
06:55So I like him over 60.5 receiving yards.
06:59He's too good of a player for them not to get the ball to.
07:03And we've got to remember, like, the Eagles of where they've been slipping,
07:07this is not like they have the first seed or the division locked up at this point.
07:11I know the Cowboys lost, but it's actually not over for the Cowboys.
07:14So this has to still be a very, very rational and smart, straightforward game from the Eagles.
07:21Also, Tom, play this angle for me because we watched so many times.
07:24Like yesterday in Buffalo, you knew it was going to be up to Josh Allen in the snow.
07:28If I have to move the football with my legs, I'm going to do it.
07:30Let me ask you this question on Jalen Hurts.
07:32He hasn't run as much this season as we've seen in the past because the Philadelphia Eagles
07:36don't really run much read option anymore.
07:37Now that you're talking about a team that's looking to make it into the playoffs,
07:41win your division, I see Jalen Hurts at 29.5.
07:44Nick Sirianni more influenced here this week, as they're saying, in practice
07:47and also in the meeting rooms of what the offense is going to look like.
07:50Talk to me about Jalen Hurts' angle tonight, at least with his legs at 29.5.
07:55I don't mind it, but frankly, seeing two 23.5 passing plus rushing,
08:00that I really do like, where he should be able to move the ball effectively in the air,
08:04at least somewhat.
08:05But, you know, you give me 30-ish yards on the ground,
08:07which would be like a super, obviously sweaty, just rushing.
08:11But you add in the potential for him to even throw him for 225 plus just in the air,
08:15like isn't a game that we're going to write home about.
08:17But it still gets you over that number.
08:18So I would prefer the passing plus rushing.
08:20223 seems like a very, very doable line for him.
08:23Tom, what we love talking about here, I'll hit you this quickly,
08:26the touchdown score is done at every single player,
08:28at least on FanDuel, is plus money tonight with a total of around 41.
08:32Any thoughts early?
08:33Because you know where I go on the double up with the Eagles.
08:35Where are you going tonight?
08:36Any thoughts?
08:36I would say Ladd, McConkie, plus Johnston, or something like that.
08:41Ladd plus Gadsden.
08:42Two receiving options from the Chargers.
08:44I'm telling you, pick two for the Eagles, two for the Chargers.
08:47You got a payday.
08:47That's Tom Vecchio.
08:48He's used to getting paydays here.
08:49Down to the right side, Joe Aniri.
08:51We will be right back after this short break.
08:52Don't go anywhere.
08:53Eagles tonight.
08:56Chargers tonight.
08:57Live from L.A.
08:57And by the way, Joe, is this one of those slime time, you know,
09:00Nickelodeon games, I believe, cartoon?
09:02Will you be watching this on the live feed, Joe,
09:04or the cartoon feed, I believe, tonight?
09:07Oh, the Nickelodeon feed?
09:08Yeah, no.
09:09No, we'll be doing that.
09:10Or though, that might be more exciting than this game, Donnie,
09:14because something tells me if you're hoping for offense,
09:17this is not the game that you are going to be excited to watch here
09:21because this feels very much like the game that we just watched last night
09:25where first one to 17 or 20 is going to win this game, Donnie.
09:30Yeah, two 8-4 football teams going to get it underway tonight.
09:33And by the way, just looking at the standings here,
09:35the Chargers sit at 8-4 in the sixth spot right now.
09:39They dropped to 8-5.
09:40Now you bring in the Texans who won last night
09:41and also the Colts who are struggling here,
09:43and it starts to say, all right, now you're in a fight.
09:46A win by either one of these teams would be massive,
09:48particularly for the Philadelphia Eagles, just to hold off the Cowboys.
09:50I believe the Eagles win tonight.
09:51That really shuts the door on the Dallas Cowboys.
09:53If they lose, sort of creeps that door open just a little.
09:59Oh, there we go.
10:00Yeah, it does creep it open just a hair there, Donnie.
10:03You're right about that.
10:04But listen, Dallas, they're our own worst enemy.
10:08They created their own issues.
10:10But Philadelphia, to their credit, is bad
10:13and is inconsistent as they have looked.
10:15They certainly have an opportunity here to be able to say,
10:19okay, Dallas, you left the door open.
10:22Now we're about to slam it shut because we're going to beat the Chargers on the road,
10:27which, by the way, I'm continuing to look here,
10:31and we have got nothing but Philadelphia money and tickets in the marketplace.
10:37And yet this line continues to move towards the Chargers.
10:41I mean, right now, you could have gotten it, what, two and a half, now down to one and a half.
10:46The money line is also getting a ton of money right now.
10:50So, yes, while Philadelphia really controls its own destiny,
10:55this is not a great matchup for them, given the current state of this offense.
11:01And we had just mentioned, you know, no Lane Johnson.
11:03Both of these teams are missing two of the most valuable starting tackles in the NFL.
11:09Joe Alt out for the Chargers.
11:11They've had to deal with that all year long.
11:13And Lane Johnson for the Eagles.
11:16And he is not walking through that door anytime soon.
11:19And we have seen what this, how much Lane Johnson means to the offense of the Eagles is crazy.
11:26Absolutely crazy.
11:27Just ask Saquon Barkley how much and how valuable he is.
11:32Ask Jalen Hurts.
11:33The numbers, I mean, they drop almost a full yard per play worse when Lane Johnson is not on the field.
11:40They can't run.
11:41They're having trouble in the passing game.
11:43Everything looks disjointed.
11:45Now, on the other side, you don't have Jalen Carter,
11:48who is one of the better run stoppers in the NFL, one of the top five run stoppers in the NFL.
11:55And now he's not going to be here because we told you earlier last week that somehow he had surgery on both shoulders.
12:02And he's going to miss at least a month.
12:05So now they're coming off a game in which the Chicago Bears ran it right down their throat.
12:11They're taking on a Chargers team with a head coach in Jim Harbaugh that knows what the blueprint is now for the Eagles,
12:19who are going to miss their best run stopper.
12:22You know, it doesn't shock me that the money is coming in on the Chargers and has been all week.
12:29The public looks at this Philadelphia team and still sees a world champion.
12:34But the influential bettors are looking at this team and going, it's week 14.
12:39The idea that they are just going to flip a switch right now and everything is going to be well with this offense,
12:45it's not going to happen.
12:46They're talented on paper, but they are about as disjointed a team right now with this much talent that we have seen in a long time.
12:55Now they got to go cross country, play on a Monday night.
12:58Harbaugh has dominated Monday night football here, not to mention the Chargers in a very good spot.
13:05Even though Herbert had that surgery on his non-throwing hand there, I don't think it's going to be a problem one way or the other.
13:14He has always said he's going to be available here.
13:17We knew he was going to be available here.
13:19Heck, he broke that hand and was still available in that Raider game, came back in.
13:25So you weren't keeping Herbert out.
13:27The big question I have is now if Hampton is back, Vidal is almost untackled.
13:33I mean, you can't tackle the guy.
13:35There's missed tackles all over the place with this guy in the backfield with Kamani Vidal.
13:41This all of a sudden now, one of the weak parts might be one of the best parts for the Chargers here with this running game.
13:48So there's a lot to like about the Chargers.
13:51There's still far too many questions with Philadelphia.
13:53And Dallas is sitting at home to Donnie's point.
13:57They're going, all right, Chargers, let's go.
14:00Keep that window of opportunity open for us.
14:03It's up to Philadelphia to slam it shut.
14:06We'll see if they can do that.
14:07We'll have much more on this game as another hour of the early line straight ahead here on the grid.
14:14Now's the time of the show.
14:15We like to reach out and see what the public's digging on, Joe.
14:18Here's Fade the Public.
14:23Get down on it tonight.
14:28Monday Night Football from Los Angeles.
14:30The Eagles versus the Chargers.
14:32At SportsGrid, we ask this question as we do Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
14:36What is your best bet for Eagles Chargers on Monday Night Football tonight?
14:40Over, under, Eagles or Chargers?
14:42Leading the pack right now.
14:43The Eagles at minus one and a half.
14:45Which, by the way, did catch a little steam this morning while we were on the show, Joe.
14:48I'm seeing two and a halves across the sports landscape right now.
14:52Where are you going?
14:52Yeah, I mean, listen, we had mentioned it, Donnie.
14:56The public very much believes Philadelphia is the better team here, which is why we're starting to see it.
15:04It's never going to get the three, but I think I would only look at the home dog in this spot just simply because this is the kind of game with this low total that Jim Harbaugh coach teams have dominated in his career in the NFL.
15:19And it's tough.
15:21You know, the advantage on the sideline is big in this one, Sirianni versus Harbaugh.
15:26Give me the birds tonight.
15:28Of course, I'm going to go with the my Philadelphia Eagles.
15:29All right, let's get to some action today, Joe.
15:31We got to give the people what they want on a Monday.
15:33Start the week out in style.
15:35Here's bye-bye-bye.
15:36Bye-bye.
15:43Bye-bye, people.
15:44Where are we going tonight, Joe?
15:45The world is yours.
15:46Monday Night Football on the ice, on the hard court.
15:48Where are we going?
15:50Well, listen, all the trends and all the numbers here for this Monday Night Football game certainly look like the Chargers have an edge.
15:58Except for one, Donnie, in which I think is the best way to approach this game.
16:04We mentioned it earlier.
16:05Lane Johnson is everything that is offensive Philadelphia, and the numbers speak volumes.
16:10However, even when he hasn't been in, you know where they've been very good when they've had to travel out west, Donnie?
16:16They've been great in the first half.
16:18Philadelphia has actually covered and won the first halves in their last five trips heading out west.
16:25We've seen them do it this year.
16:27We've seen them in the first half look really good, and then the wheels fall off.
16:32So I'll take the Eagles in the first half to have the lead at the break.
Be the first to comment
