Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden announced a new “Youth Guarantee” aimed at supporting almost one million young people currently not in education, employment or training. He said the plan will provide intensive work-coach support, training opportunities for more than 300,000 young people, and subsidised jobs for those still out of work after 18 months, arguing that “Britain’s young people need a better offer.”

00:00We are announcing a policy called the Youth Guarantee today, which is aimed at the almost one million young people who are not in education, employment or training.
00:10Those numbers have been rising steeply for the last four years.
00:14I think Britain's young people need a better offer.
00:17And with the Youth Guarantee that we are offering today, we'll offer them intensive work coach helping, training opportunities for over 300,000 young people.
00:27And ultimately, for some of them, a subsidised job if they're still out of work after 18 months.
00:33It's a big difference from the passivity that we've seen in watching this problem grow in recent years.
00:40We want to do something about it because young people need a better deal.
