Victoria Sanz Moreno, Professor of Cancer Cell and Metastasis Biology at The Institute of Cancer Research says that drugs currently used to treat patients with glaucoma could potentially be repurposed to help fight cancer.

00:00and it's a molecule or a protein that generates force and helps cancer cells move but now we have
00:08seen with our new study that also survive and cancer cells can hijack all this molecular
00:14machinery to help them survive in stressful conditions to move through tissues to spread
00:21around the body but also sometimes even to resist current therapies current standard of care so
00:27those are kind of like the most aggressive cancer cells the ones that you know manage to spread
00:33around the body and survive current treatments so when treatments don't work cells that have high rock
00:39you know are the very dangerous ones so now we have found a way of identifying which patients rely on
00:47this molecule to do this and now the inhibitors of rock kinase rock inhibitors that are currently
00:54being used for the treatment of glaucoma for example amongst other diseases so now we can
00:59treat those cells kill those cells eliminate those very dangerous cells with rock inhibitors
