01:43close in on a night of non-stop boxing that will include a pair of world championships
01:53hello again everybody i'm steve albert welcome to las vegas and tonight's five fight boxing telecast
01:58this is about as wide-ranging a fight card as you'll ever see both sexes will be represented along
02:03with a total of five different weight classes going from bantamweight all the way up to super heavyweight
02:09it is a roster that includes a playboy model and another traffic stopper so to speak named
02:14butterbean you'll also see a former world champion trying to climb back on top and two world title
02:20fights featuring some of the biggest and baddest little men in boxing with that let me bring on
02:25my ringside partners first the fight dr freddie pacheco and freddie for those out there looking
02:29to spice up their lives with a little variety i think they've come to the right place in terms of
02:33tonight's undercard this has been the best night for people at home to watch boxing you got a little
02:39bit of everything you got comedy you got melodrama you got glamour and you got a shootout at the okay
02:44corral we certainly have comedy when butterbean comes on this is the only four-round fighter who's had
02:49an over and under in the sportsbook i never heard of anybody in a four-round having an over and under
02:54bobby and i agree that's kind of a strange thing the other thing is the beauty of of this girl mia who
02:59comes in here i don't know why to box and then again the drama of uh yuri boy campos who either
03:05is at the end of his rope or at the beginning of another career into the title and of course
03:10the shootout that we're all waiting for when tappy and ayala square weight that's going to be
03:15fireworks so we got a little bit of everything for everybody's day here and if that's not enough
03:21there's more as we turn to our other ringside partner bobby chez to talk about the main event this
03:26one seems like it has all the elements of a pretty good close competitive fight tapia ayala well you
03:32know steve tap is not only a great fighter he's a great performer he's exciting he loves the fight
03:36night he loves the adrenaline and all the drama this is one of the things that makes him come to the
03:40game time and time again now after recently winning a bantha way title he's not satisfied he's not happy
03:44already three titles he wants at least two more move up to super bantam and then maybe new featherweight
03:49for paul ayala he's got plans of his own this is his second shot at the big apple second shot of the
03:53title he doesn't know how many more shots that he'll get to have at a title
03:56not only that he doesn't just want any title he wants tap his title and all the fame and acclaim
04:00to come with it so i think the main event's got to be a terrific shootout that is our main event

12:24talking about compass he'll come out firing and i agree with bobby's uh uh analysis and and say
12:31yes try to keep from getting hit to the body with this guy is hard i mean this guy goes to the body
12:37compass said that he hasn't fought since december by design he just needed a rest now feels totally
12:44rejuvenated invigorated very strong and that could be a huge factor here tonight
12:49well you know steve he's not even 30 and he has that many fights you know so many fights it's just
12:54he's got to give his body a break from time to time that's an inhuman number of fights for that short
12:59of time to fight i mean he'd sometimes have 10 12 fights a year weaver feels compass is slow and
13:08telegraphs his punches he said he'll stay away from his best punch with which is the left hook
13:14for his size campus has extremely short arms i have short arms at 68 and a half his are 67 and he's
13:20got a half inch i mean height shortest left hook i've ever seen for a man his height
13:25compass with 11 first round knockouts in case you were wondering weaver has six
13:32compass basically straight up straight ahead forces the pace good short crisp quick right hand
13:37it's an excellent ko punch but his real big punch over the course of time has been the left hook
13:43bobby white and still two shots he just put in there the capitals oh yeah that's his thing he's the
13:47body man yeah it's his thing that's all mexicans after there's there it is again after they watch chavez
13:53have such a victorious victorious uh career they don't neglect the body they go right there very
13:58accurate and economical with those body shots a la chavez ron weaver calls himself a boxer puncher

14:12the problem here is that in the last few fights your boy looks like he's caved in when he got hit
14:16i mean sooner or later you can't keep up that attrition now whether that's six months help them
14:22we'll see sometimes uh taking that time off helps usually not when your jaw starts to crumble it's
14:28gonna crumble camp is not throwing a lot of jabs to the worker's way and he leads off with big hooks
14:33for the head and by sometimes that's the best way to get caught on the way in good stiff jab there by ron

14:47shotgun jab again by weaver body that's what he needs to do steve he needs to keep campus on he has to
14:51reach make him look for some openings and when he does slow that lower that left hook on it he did very
14:58well there for a brief moment he's got to keep that up he's going to keep this guy off of the junior

16:56And back comes compass to the body and the head he's putting them together as well
17:00He's combining two and three punches at a time, but he's known to do that. He can punch it bunches
17:04I've seen tapes of Weaver and he can throw
17:07Debilitating body shots as a pesky straight right and a quick sneaky left
17:11Well, what are you gonna find out tonight is can he take a body shot because he is getting pummeled to the body?
17:17And compass is as bobby pointed out the reach is short, but he's quick handed
17:21He's busy and sometimes smothers you especially when he gets you in trouble and he cuts the distance
17:26He's not oh what a nice shot nice right hand compass coming on
17:31Partially blocked by weaver, but I'll tell you what this is closing the gap because of the short arm and going to work
17:35And once he's on the inside he has all the leverage at those short arms
17:38There's a good straight left jab a reply by weaver of the resounding right hand and then followed by a number of punches
17:46Partially blocked, but he sure got his attention sure got his attention
17:51Top is also very good at picking off punches then coming back with connecting lefts and rights. He can counter

17:58What a left uppercut right to the gloves of weaver another there's a right uppercut by compass
18:04See compass is so effective on the inside weaver cannot allow his back to be up against the ropes to get work like that
18:09compass continues to press forward dictating the pace bouncing around
18:14Now we were doing a little shift to the left. Yeah, but he got he had to pay a little price. He tried to slide by and got shot right to the stomach

18:22There's a beautiful right hand by compass that connected and compass continues to wail away at the bottom and it looks like it's weak and weaver

18:32By shot really took its toll. I could see the winston weaver he actually caved on his side a little bit took the steam right out of weaver here in round two
18:43He continues this but miguel diaz won't have to worry about five rounds
18:47Yeah, this guy's a champion remember. I mean he got here because he knows how to finish you got here because he knows
18:58He I'll tell you what he landed a couple of beautiful overhand right thing to a nice left hook underneath himself
19:03Well, we need to do something to keep walking and he still think he doesn't keep walking
19:13Again those potty shots by compass but weaver answers back but compass throwing a lot more
19:22What a punching machine is accomplished
19:24I want to dab right here around you look good around it. You look better than that baby

19:46You're going to see him he comes in nice jab and right in there
20:01He wants to stay at this range short in tight closing the gap keeping the punches coming shorter arms all the leverage on the inside
20:09Very very effective and this is where you see his championship form he sticks there
20:12He likes to keep this weaver's coming back here and he throws a nice uppercutting overhand right and he throws a few more
20:20But he needs a little bit more space
20:24In the first two rounds weaver fought mostly going backward though
20:27He did score at times with left hooks
20:30But you have to say that compass was effective in finding the gap between weaver's gloves especially on the inside
20:36And landed some straight right hands that are doing damage they're not landing flush, but they're doing damage
20:43That's as good as his straight right hand has looked in a while too party

20:47He's right down the pipe bobbing weaver answering back
20:51With combinations to the head
20:54And he's getting compasses attention of compass just smiles back at him
20:58He might have got a little more than his attention. He might have got a little respect with that combination
21:02Well, that that was a series of good combination. That's what he's got to do to fight back and get this guy off of
21:07That isn't just once and gone that's a three-minute job he's got ahead of him
21:11He's got to fight three minutes like that to keep campers off
21:13Well, we're showing us that he has a little speed too steve so maybe he can use that too
21:17Compass again digging to the body with left hooks now straight rights to the chest to the left quick uppercut by compass
21:26Showing his entire repertoire
21:28See the spurts that we were giving us a little too far a few between
21:35And these continue to be debilitating body shots by compass
21:40Yeah, unless we can get in one of those lucky big punches of his to really really hurt yuri

22:03I remember when he caught trinidad very clearly trinidad one of the premier punchers in the division hit him and teed off with everything

22:19He shot really taking their toll now on ron weaver the uppercuts are all finding your mark to campus is throwing the uppercut thing coming right back with the hook to the body
22:32Getting through too cleanly for weaver to be able to sustain himself look how busy compasses and he's connecting

23:50This is where he's effective. He closes that gap gets right inside. There's the hook
23:54And it comes around the right uppercut and another hook. I mean, he's just beautiful at it
23:57He closes that gap shuts it down the space and gets the punches off round after round

24:55Had it eight to eight one on one and eight to two and I thought it was over was I in the same fight they were judging
24:59I I thought it was a much closer fight even though I thought I'd won so
25:02Sometimes you're flying and your body are under such stress and you're just trying to do one thing
25:06You can't think about how you're looking see that last round was kind of adopt one as far as he's concerned because he got some big shots from weaver
25:12Weaver fought a good campaign in there in the middle
25:15So he's saying that I wouldn't
25:17Get body shot to that upstairs goes campus
25:19That's pretty much dominating the fight to this point round four
25:25I think right now that weaver has figured out that he can't keep this type of pace and he has to just cover up and pick and
25:32Pick and choose his spots and burst out maybe maybe get him in trouble
25:35But he can't he can't hold the pace and we go back and we go back to bobby's initial points for weaver stay off the ropes
25:41And look at where he's at on the ropes. So bobby you're right again. Stay off those ropes. He can't do it. He's pinned there with this guy
25:47Oh nice shot two nice shots by weaver and there he goes back to the ropes again part of the reason those shots weren't as effective
25:54As they could have been weaver was going backwards while punching forward momentum weight not with his punches
26:02They build punches but don't do I mean they build points but they don't do damage
26:05They didn't do any damage done so far but blood first appeared from weaver's nose at the two-minute mark of round three
26:12approaching the final minute of round four
26:15And one thing is for sure murray boy is coming forward with all these his punches carries his momentum and his cosmic punches
26:26Nova no uh knockdowns thus far in a minute remaining around four
26:32He's just absorbing too much he's blocking as well as he can with just too many punches to try and block
26:37He's not really moving out of the way of many all blocking the punishment is taking its toll on weaver's body
26:43I don't know how much weaver can do of this and stay here for 10 rounds
26:49Weaver with terrific resolve though keeps battling back as best he could
26:54But he is losing this war
26:56Oh look at he's smacking left hooks to the side of the head by compass but weaver trying to come back
27:01Missing and those shots being blocked by compass there's definitely no quinn weaver
27:08I just think he doesn't he hasn't a master rope the amount of power he needs to in the short burst
27:12He doesn't have the energy to keep this pace and it's really hurting what he wants to do and the experience of a former world champion also coming through

28:34It's pretty much a shutout weaver's made some marks but uh not enough to win a round
28:39That's what he looks like he can keep on coming the other guy comes right back and and erases everything all the good work

28:51While while we're looking at a shutout we're looking at a nice fight because this guy's not quitting he's in these
28:56Throwing some heart you get the feeling this guy with one punch could change his time this thing around
29:00And we know we've ever had that one punch ability he has a big left hook and a good right

29:10We sat here saying we're losing this guy's losing these guys
29:17Couple of upsets of late frankie lyles losing carlos gonzalez losing both losing their titles
29:24Relatively unknown fighters nothing like a good upset the perk of the day

29:40I think the energy factor is going to be huge
