00:00This is the fifth iteration of the National Indigenous Art Triennial.
00:06The exhibition is called After the Rain and explores the themes of rebirth and renewal.
00:12The show features 10 diverse and immersive projects by First Nations artists from across
00:18Australia.
00:19What does After the Rain mean after the referendum, where a majority of Australians voted no in
00:26the inclusion of Indigenous people in the constitution?
00:28So it offered, I think, a really broad curatorial opportunity for artists to respond to, but
00:34very much based on planting new seeds.
00:39Some of the artists featured are established names, like acclaimed portrait painter Vincent
00:43Namajira.
00:44The Namajira Room pays tribute to the pioneering work of his great-grandfather Albert Namajira.
00:50It's like me standing at home with my family, with the paintings, with the works.
00:56It's like standing on country, bringing the country to the big smoke.
01:00The exhibition also spotlights the work of emerging First Nations artists.
01:05Dylan Mooney's large-scale banners celebrate queer black love.
01:09It feels very special and empowering to be shown with such amazing First Nations artists,
01:17people that I've looked up to.
01:20After its time on display in Canberra, the exhibition will tour nationally for three years,
01:26giving more Australians a taste of the rich diversity of contemporary First Nations art.
