A Brisbane fashion exhibition is bringing a whole new meaning to wearable art. The collaboration is showcasing First Nations artists using clothing as a canvas for storytelling.

00:00From country to couture, these runway pieces now exclusively on display for Brisbane.
00:14It's a celebration of First Nations art, design, culture and community.
00:21The exhibition is showcasing 70 artists across 13 regional and remote communities in Queensland,
00:27the Northern Territory and Western Australia,
00:30with designs bringing a whole new meaning to wearable art.
00:34The piece that I'm wearing today is about the Aninti tree.
00:39It's by artist Cassandra Neal from Uwempa Twach.
00:43This story is a bit of a timeline of the tree coming into season, the seeds falling
00:51and then this is the process of making necklaces or jewellery.
00:56They actually heat up long wires and then they pierce all of the different seeds individually
01:03and then thread it to make the bead necklace.
01:06Bold and bright designs that are more than just fashion.
01:10I think being an Aboriginal company, no matter what, you try and act sustainably
01:15and it's all to do with caring for country and making sure that your footprint is as minimal as possible.
01:23Open to the public until October next year.
