Joe Root smashed his first ever Test century on Australian soil, but 40th in total as England fought hard on day one of the Brisbane Test.

After being 264 for 9 at one stage, the visitors closed on 325 without any further damage.

Root is unbeaten on 135, while Mitchell Starc has picked up six wickets in the day/night contest.
