The West Indies kept a flicker of hope alive after battling to close day-four of the opening Test on 212 for four.

New Zealand shorthanded in the bowling department extended their lead to 530 runs...

But with four wickets down Shai (Shay) Hope smashed 116 and Justin Greaves an unbeaten half century.

As the West Indies still need a robust 319 runs on the final day to decide the Test.

00:00With two days at their disposal, the Black Caps decided to delay the declaration at the
00:04start of day four. The horse only added 49 runs, but it allowed Kimma Roach time to add
00:10to his legacy.
00:11At 466 for eight, the declaration came, with the Black Caps setting a demoralizing victory
00:23target of 531 runs. For a team that struggles to make at least 300, defeat is the likely
00:30outcome. But the question was whether it would come today or tomorrow, and the Caribbean men
00:35initially looked as though defeat would happen on day four. With both openers gone and losing
00:40Alec Athanese and Skipper Ruston Chase at 72 for four, a collapse seemed on the cards.
00:46But there was a caveat as New Zealand assured two strike bowlers in Matt Henry and Nathan
00:50Smith due to injury. A major concern for the Black Caps, but Shea Hope is their immediate
00:56concern. Even in sunglasses due to an eye infection, Hope showed his class.
01:01Pushes. Well done. Well played, Shea Hope. That is a sparkling hundred from you. Positive,
01:11brilliant from the minute he came out to bat.
01:13While Greaves could take his natural instincts to good effect.
01:16That will be a half century for Justin Graves. Very well deserved, well played. His second
01:23half century.
01:24Their 140 run partnership took the West Indies to 212 for four at stumps. However, the Black
01:30Caps are still strong favorites with a lead of 319 runs. But at least the West Indies have
01:36hope on their side. Terence Clark, CBS Sports.
