00:00Bowlers ran things rugged and red on the first day of the second test between the West Indies
00:18and South Africa in Guyana.
00:21Seventeen wickets fell on day one as South Africa were 97-9 at one stage, the last before
00:26being bowled out for 160 with Shemar Joseph taking five wickets.
00:31It was then the turn of Wian Mulder as his four wickets ripped out the heart of the Caribbean
00:36team who mercifully ended the day on 97-7, still trailing by 63 runs.
00:43South Africa won the toss and chose to bat in the second test against the West Indies
00:47at the Providence Stadium.
00:49And what a start it was for the home team as Tony Di Zorzi was bowled by Jaden Seals
00:53for one.
00:54And homeboy Shemar Joseph castled Aiden Markram for 14.
00:58Joseph took his second scald by trapping Captain Timber Bawuma LBW for a duck, 20 for 3.
01:03Tristan Stubbs chipped in with 26 for the men from the African continent.
01:10He was dismissed by Jason Holder and it became 57 for 4.
01:14Kavim Hodge was the man who took the brilliant catch.
01:18David Beddingham hit three fours in his knockoff 28.
01:26He was caught behind by Joshua De Silva to give Joseph another one.
01:32Then another catch for De Silva with Seals doing the damage to send Wian Mulder packing
01:36for nought.
01:37Joseph then took his fourth by bowling Keshav Maharaj for no score.
01:41The Proteas were in dire straits.
01:43When Seals grabbed his third, it was 93 for 8.
01:47Kyle Varena was dismissed by Joseph for 21 and it was the bowler's fifer.
01:52Then Dane Peet and Nandri Birger frustrated the West Indies bowlers.
02:00Their partnership was worth 63 runs for the 10th wicket.
02:09Birger was out LBW to Gudakesh Moti for 23, leaving Peet stranded on 38.
02:15South Africa were all out for 160.
02:18When the West Indies responded, Mekhi Louie was bowled by a beauty for no score.
02:23Wicket for Birger.
02:25Then Mulder removed captain Craig Brathwaite cheaply, 21 for 2.
02:29Number 3 batsman Casey Carty took the aggressive approach with Willow in hand.
02:34He would see Alec Athenez and Kavim Hodge being dismissed by Mulder who was on fire.
02:39Birger then took his second by having Carty caught by Maharaj for 26.
02:44Mulder would take 4 on the day by sending De Silva back to the pavilion cheaply.
02:48And the West Indies were in a pickle.
02:51Then came some hope in the form of a 41 run partnership between Holder and Moti.
02:59Moti was outlegged before wicket to Maharaj for 11, while Holder was unbeaten on 33.
03:04The men in maroon closed on a precarious 97 for 7 and trailed by 63 runs going into day
03:092.
03:11Well, it certainly was the headline of the day as West Indies bowler Shaman Joseph said
03:16he was elated to accomplish a 5 wicket haul in front of his home crowd.
03:20I think it's a great feeling especially being at home, doing another 5 wicket haul is just
03:27a great feeling to me.
03:29Speak to me about your mindset before you started your first spell of bowling today,
03:33having the prior knowledge of the pitching conditions here at Providence.
03:37To be fair, I haven't played much game at Providence but I'm always going with a clear
03:41plan and what the team needed.
03:45So I just bowl what the team needed and what I'm supposed to do out there.
03:51How special it was for you to pick up this 5 in front of your family members who are
03:56present here today and playing in your first international match right here in Guyana?
04:01I think it's a great feeling, having the support out there from the family, mum, dad, siblings
04:06and fiancé also there.
04:08It's a great accomplishment for me and also having the team behind your back, calling
04:13your name, every ball you bowl, I don't think you need anything better than that to move
04:17forward in a good spell.
