Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Shai Hope hit half-centuries, but the West Indies squandered the advantage on day two of the opening Test against New Zealand in Christchurch.

The Black Caps resumed on 231 for 9, and were all out without a run added.

In response, West Indies were 100 for 2 at one stage, but were bundled out for 167, with Jacob Duffy taking five wickets.

Batting a second time, New Zealand were 32 for no loss and have an overall lead of 96.
