00:00:00and the Las Vegas Hilton here the scene for tonight's triple header on Showtime
00:00:06Championship Boxing coming up next two-time world champion Julian the Hawk
00:00:11Jackson is hoping to make Thomas Tate his next knockout victim
00:00:16what happens with the knockout punch is that the body state of alertness
00:00:29is automatically stopped the nerve impulses that keep our mental alertness our muscles intact
00:00:41stop firing and you have the collapse of the knockout a rotational blow in which the brain
00:00:53actually rotates on its stem and that's probably the key knockout blow
00:01:08the main quality that a knockout artist has is that he wants to knock out his opponent
00:01:15you need that aggression to want to knock the other guy out not to win not to box but to knock the other
00:01:28guy out
00:01:43obviously Julian Jackson is one of the prime knockout artists we have in boxing today he combines accuracy
00:01:52of his punches aggression and an intelligence that he takes in to his fight with the opponent that very
00:02:01few other fighters have I believe some guys naturally have the ability to punch and once they are guided
00:02:09you know from the trainers and could be perfected makes it even more devastating when I hit a guy square
00:02:18for instance Terry Norris and Buster Drayton
00:02:22I will feel a shot run
00:02:25to my elbow from my fist to my elbow
00:02:28and I would know that they will not be able to stand
00:02:32and that happened pretty often and everyone that I hit
00:02:36and I feel the shot never got back up
00:02:38if they did they couldn't continue
00:02:40I don't know if I could have a medical opinion as to whether Julian Jackson is the best pound for pound fighter
00:02:45but I can tell you as a fan
00:02:49Julian Jackson embodies all of the qualities of the great knockout artists and it's fun to watch
00:02:56and it's fun to find the watch
00:03:03well Julian Jackson says he trains to go the distance despite so many quick endings
00:03:09but in his last fight against Ron Collins he almost seemed too anxious for the early knockout
00:03:14throwing several wild misses and even getting tagged himself
00:03:17Bobby give us the pros and cons of knockout strategy
00:03:20well certainly the pros are that a big punch early is very dangerous
00:03:23and if you don't combat that with something you the judges won't figure in the decision
00:03:27it'll just be a knockout
00:03:28the cons are that if he gets aggressive overly aggressive a little too anxious
00:03:31he'll start telegraphing punches if you start to miss him
00:03:33he could then wind up tired in rounds four five six and seven
00:03:36and that's when a boxer can also take advantage and catch him
00:03:39how do you defend against a knockout artist like Julian Jackson
00:03:42very very carefully
00:03:43I mean the man can hit with both hands from any angle
00:03:45I think what has to happen is you have to get in there and use your jab
00:03:48you have to work and move give him some movement
00:03:50but every fighter has to get his pound of flesh and and establish that he too can punch
00:03:54and you have something to fear from him
00:03:55so I think that's something that Tate may have to worry about
00:03:57but I think down the road we'll see
00:03:59well offensively do you try to box the guy or try to push him more with him
00:04:03I don't think you can push him more you might want to stay on the outside for the first few rounds
00:04:07boxing has got to be the smartest way but you have to be careful with your defense too
00:04:10you cannot be lax for a moment
00:04:12does Thomas Tate have the credentials that you speak of
00:04:14well I've worked with brother Frank down the gym in Houston Boxing Association
00:04:17I've seen him work out he has good boxing credentials
00:04:20and he has some power too
00:04:21and if he uses them properly and puts it together right tonight
00:04:23we could have a hell of a fight
00:04:24all right so we are just moments away from the WBC middleweight championship
00:04:29Julian the Hawk Jackson versus Thomas Ice T Tate
00:04:32is it Hawk time or tea time I guess only time will tell
00:04:36and let's take a look at the challenger Thomas Tate
00:04:40the younger brother of former IBF middleweight champ Frank Tate
00:04:43if Thomas pulls off the upset you've got the first set of brothers to win middleweight crowns

00:05:56Thomas and Frank looking to become the sixth tandem of brothers to become world champions.
00:06:02It won't be easy, though, for Thomas against knockout specialist Julian Jackson.
00:06:06And Thomas was telling us he's got a lot of pride about
00:06:09that he and his brother are trying to make some boxing history.
00:06:29And let's check out the man he is going to face in just a couple of minutes.
00:06:33Julian Jackson.

00:06:43A knockout of this match isню.
00:06:44од off.
00:06:45A knockout machine.
00:06:46He's got some waps.
00:06:47Oh!
00:06:48What?

00:06:50Yeah!
00:06:51Yeah!

00:07:02Yeah!
00:07:03Yeah!
00:07:05Yeah!
00:08:06Just to hear your own song.
00:08:09Julian Jackson who has not got
00:08:10the distance in over 10 years
00:08:1236 of his 42 knockouts 4 rounds
00:08:14or less so be advised if you're
00:08:17planning a trip to the fridge.
00:08:19This may not be the best time.
00:08:23The numerical breakdown the tail
00:08:24of the tape at 31.
00:08:26Jackson is 5 years older than
00:08:27take the height is even 510 and
00:08:29a half both or 159 pounds and
00:08:32right edge to Jackson and the
00:08:35rules according to the World
00:08:36Boxing Council 10 point must
00:08:38system three judges scoring the
00:08:40fight no standing eight count no
00:08:42three knockdown rule only the
00:08:43referee can stop the fight and a
00:08:45fighter cannot be saved by the
00:08:46belt except in the last round.
00:08:50So it is bout number two on the
00:08:52docket here at the Las Vegas
00:08:53Hilton the WBC middleweight
00:08:55championship Julian Jackson and
00:08:56Thomas Tate.
00:08:58We are just about set for the
00:08:59introduction.
00:09:00So let's go to ring announcer
00:09:02Jimmy Lennon, Jr.

00:09:44And introducing the referee in
00:09:46charge of this bout, he will be
00:09:47giving instructions after the
00:09:49introductions, Richard Steele.
00:09:52Well, fans, here we go.
00:09:55This featured event is scheduled for 12
00:09:57rounds of boxing for the WBC middleweight
00:10:00championship of the world.
00:10:03Introducing to you first the challenger on
00:10:06my right, fighting out of the blue
00:10:08corner.
00:10:09He is wearing red trunks and hailing from
00:10:12Houston, Texas.
00:10:14He weighed in at a ready 159 pounds and a fine
00:10:18record, which includes 24 wins, only one
00:10:21defeat, 19 wins by way of knockout.
00:10:25He is ranked the number 10 middleweight
00:10:27contender by the WBC.
00:10:29From the well-known boxing family, please
00:10:31welcome Thomas Ice-T Tate.
00:10:35And his opponent across the ring.
00:10:40On my left, fighting out of the red
00:10:42corners, the defending world champion.
00:10:45He is wearing white trunks with
00:10:46multicolor trim, which celebrates the
00:10:49Virgin Islands silver jubilee.
00:10:52He is fighting out of and representing
00:10:53St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, and he
00:10:56weighed in at the same weight of 159 pounds.
00:11:01His tremendous record includes 44 wins, only
00:11:04one defeat with an impressive 42 big wins
00:11:08by way of knockout.
00:11:10He is the former WBA junior middleweight
00:11:12champion and the current WBC middleweight
00:11:15champion of the world.
00:11:17Introducing Julian the Hawk Jackson.
00:11:23Once again, here is your referee, Richard
00:11:26Steele.
00:11:28Okay, I spoke to both fighters in the dress
00:11:31room.
00:11:31I'm telling you again, obey my commands at all
00:11:33time, let's make sure I keep the punches up, the neighbors here.
00:11:37Anything below your cup is a low blow.
00:11:40Keep them up.
00:11:40Shake hands.
00:11:41Good luck.
00:11:41Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
00:11:52Let's go, hold on.
00:11:57Julian Jackson, who has explosive knockout power, particularly in his left hook.
00:12:02Keep an eye out for that left hook.
00:12:03Also an excellent right hand.
00:12:05He goes straight in with destruction on his mind.
00:12:08Almost every punch is thrown with evil intent to knock out his opponent.
00:12:11Although he told us yesterday at the weigh-in, Bobby, that he plans to box more.
00:12:16So he might see a bit of a different side to Jackson.
00:12:19It'll be interesting.
00:12:20I mean, Tate's coming out doing just what we figured he might.
00:12:22Had to use a jab, keeping his hands very high.
00:12:24Already the left hook on the side of the glove.
00:12:26Big, hard punches with Jackson's hands.
00:12:29Tate does have some knockout power.
00:12:31Nine of his 19 knockouts in the first two rounds.
00:12:3315 of his 19 of the first four rounds.
00:12:37Likes to throw combinations.
00:12:38He is pretty strong defensively.
00:12:41And he said he'll try to keep Jackson away with the jab.
00:12:45Well, he's been using the jab.
00:12:46He's been using his feet to also keep him away and keep a little more distance between him
00:12:49so that left hook can't get loaded up on him.
00:12:53Jackson feels that he is the lowest paid champion in boxing today.
00:12:59He's very adamant about that.
00:13:00He'd like a big money bout with somebody like Terry Norris, a man he knocked out in the second round three years ago.
00:13:06But he's gone on to win the WBC Super Loneaway title.
00:13:09Or he'd like to unify the middleweight championship, meet the winner of the James Toney Mike McCallum IVF title fight August 29th.
00:13:16Or perhaps take on WBA middleweight champ Reggie Johnson.
00:13:19He told me it was very simple.
00:13:21Whoever pays the most, that's who I want to fight.
00:13:23He doesn't really care who it is.
00:13:24Should he win tonight?
00:13:24That's all he's looking to do.
00:13:26Establish himself as a big money fighter.
00:13:29He's knocked out his last 15 opponents.
00:13:31Has Jackson since being stopped by Mike McCallum.
00:13:35His only loss back in 1986 for the WBA junior middleweight.
00:13:38The title, a second round knockout.
00:13:40Tonight, Jackson's fourth title defense.
00:13:47He's 8-0 in title fights.
00:13:51Thomas Tate's showing some good movement.
00:13:52He's getting out of the way of some of the big punches.
00:13:53Julian certainly has loaded up on more than just a few.
00:14:02There's a heavy right by Julian Jackson.
00:14:04He's spun out of there by Thomas Tate.
00:14:06Right now, Tate's in a little bit of a defensive mode
00:14:10while trying to make some points with the jab.
00:14:12But he's not taking any chances yet that he doesn't have to.
00:14:17Jackson, an interesting story.
00:14:18Used to be in a street gang as a kid growing up in the Virgin Islands.
00:14:22Turned his life around with boxing and religion.
00:14:26His brother as a pastor helped him tremendously in turning things around.
00:14:29He said he also found faith and found out who his real friends were
00:14:33after the loss to McCallum back in 1986.
00:14:36I think that's something very generic to the trade.
00:14:39It's just one of those things.
00:14:40They all leave when things get bad.
00:14:41The defeat really opened his eyes to life.
00:14:44I think you can really relate to that.
00:14:46A lot of people say a defeat is a measure of greatness.
00:14:49I think Muhammad Ali used to say that.
00:14:51And Julian Jackson says it now.
00:14:54Well, for a man, when he comes back from defeat,
00:14:57if he can improve, become better, and do more and accomplish more,
00:15:00he becomes great with your friends.
00:15:01If they stay there through it and everything is bad
00:15:03as well as when the good is, that's how you judge a friend.
00:15:20Come on, man.
00:15:21Come on.
00:15:24Little neck there, maybe from him.
00:15:26Little blood from him.
00:15:28Not from you.
00:15:29Right?
00:15:31Use the jaw.
00:15:32Nothing beautiful.
00:15:33Show him down real nice.
00:15:35When you continue that,
00:15:37throw your straight punches down.
00:15:38Don't try straight to the head of the head.
00:15:40Get it down, right?
00:15:41Right.
00:15:43Yeah.
00:15:46Yeah.
00:15:46You get shot overpowered.
00:15:48What job is he set that?
00:15:49Drop that tongue, drop that right hand.
00:15:51It's not at all.
00:15:51How to jab.
00:15:52Okay.
00:15:52Yeah.
00:15:52Okay.
00:15:54All right.
00:15:55Yeah.
00:15:56Keep your hands up.
00:15:58Keep your hands up.
00:15:59Okay.
00:15:59You're doing a good job.
00:16:01Okay.
00:16:02Yeah.
00:16:02He's going to have a round two
00:16:04scheduled for twelve Julian
00:16:06Jackson and Thomas Tate both very
00:16:08personable young man they told us
00:16:10yesterday he calls his fight a
00:16:12dream come true talks about his
00:16:16brother a lot Frank the former
00:16:18IVF middleweight champ biggest
00:16:20difference between Thomas and
00:16:22Frank according to Thomas Frank
00:16:24his season he knows what to
00:16:26expect.
00:16:32And I asked him the most
00:16:34important thing he learned from
00:16:35Frank and he said patience and a
00:16:37good support team.
00:16:38He told me today earlier that he
00:16:40was going to need a lot of
00:16:41patience and using that jab
00:16:42patience patience patience pick
00:16:44his spot to land his big shots and
00:16:46his defense would have to be there
00:16:47and eventually a lot of
00:16:48combinations once the fight gets
00:16:50on.
00:16:51And Bobby so far Julian Jackson
00:16:52living up to his words saying he
00:16:54was going to a box more rather
00:16:56than go for the quick knockout in
00:16:58his last outing against an
00:16:59imprepid southpaw named Ron
00:17:00Collins.
00:17:01Early on Jackson made no
00:17:03adjustments to Collins southpaw
00:17:05style he still came straight in
00:17:07he didn't try to get around the
00:17:08left hander.
00:17:09He also boxed more than usual
00:17:11but he did get impatient looking
00:17:13for the big knockout as he seems
00:17:15to be right now.
00:17:16He seems to have a little bit of
00:17:17even his boxing more a little
00:17:18bit of a predetermined mindset
00:17:19I'm going to hurt this guy early
00:17:21and get him out of there and I
00:17:22can see it in his eyes and
00:17:23certainly in his motions.
00:17:24You can see in the last fight
00:17:26with Collins in Mexico said he
00:17:27got a little frustrated early on
00:17:30and threw several wild rights
00:17:32even got hit himself in time.
00:17:36I guess the keys to fighting a
00:17:37guy like Julian Jackson is you
00:17:39touched on earlier try to box
00:17:41him you don't want to maul and
00:17:42push with the guy and you got
00:17:44to have a lot of heart and you
00:17:46got to know how to survive.
00:17:47Good chin wouldn't hurt.
00:17:48Yes.
00:17:49Good chin wouldn't hurt.
00:17:50Here you see Frank picking some
00:17:52spots he threw a couple of big
00:17:53right hands to the body.
00:17:54There he tried to get land one
00:17:55to the head.
00:17:56He's picking his spot he's
00:17:57fighting a smart fight right
00:17:58now.
00:17:59By no means talk to Jackson
00:18:00during the fight Ron Collins
00:18:01did that in the fourth round
00:18:03saying things like you can't
00:18:04hurt me.
00:18:05Not advisable.
00:18:07He tried to make Jackson punch
00:18:09himself out but he wasn't
00:18:10about to do that.
00:18:11That can happen with big
00:18:12fighters that do as we talked
00:18:13about earlier when they wind up
00:18:14with those big shots take just
00:18:15as much energy to stop that
00:18:16punch as it did to start it.
00:18:17What is your reaction when your
00:18:20opponent starts talking to you.
00:18:23I really don't pay it too
00:18:24much of mine.
00:18:25I've even had him talk to
00:18:26themselves on occasion which
00:18:27worried me a little bit.
00:18:29So it's the same in the ring
00:18:30as it is here ringside.
00:18:32You're paying no attention to
00:18:33me either.
00:18:34No it's not that bad.
00:18:37By the way two times Bobby
00:18:38Chez has heard the bell and
00:18:40inflicted punishment on me.
00:18:42It was a nice total of
00:18:43flashback.
00:18:44I couldn't help it.
00:18:45You do have a good left.
00:18:50Final 20 seconds.
00:18:52Round two scheduled for 12 and
00:18:54Jackson to the body with that
00:18:56left uppercut.
00:19:02I think it's been a better
00:19:03round for Tate though.
00:19:04A little bit better than the
00:19:05first round.
00:19:06Well it has to be a
00:19:07confidence builder.
00:19:08No question about that.
00:19:09Right.
00:19:15And standing by in his dressing
00:19:17room we look at a three time
00:19:18world champion Julio Cesar
00:19:20Chavez.
00:19:22The astounding mark of 80 and 0.
00:19:24Longest undefeated streak in
00:19:25boxing today.
00:19:26Tonight the eighth defensive is
00:19:27WBC super lightweight the
00:19:28championship arguably the
00:19:29most punishing body puncher in
00:19:30any division many feel the
00:19:31best finisher of the sport
00:19:32today.
00:19:33Yeah.
00:19:34And tonight it is Frankie Mitchell's
00:19:35turn to step in the ring with
00:19:36the legend Julio Cesar Chavez.
00:19:40the coach is going to go down there.
00:19:41Yeah.
00:19:42It goes.
00:19:43If you want to go this.
00:19:45Here.
00:19:46He wants to go down there.
00:19:47Yeah.
00:19:48You want to go this.
00:19:49This.
00:19:50Yeah.
00:19:50You've got to beat him to get up
00:19:52once you go down there.
00:19:53Yeah.
00:19:57And.
00:19:58It is round three scheduled for
00:20:00twelve.
00:20:01Pretty good second round by
00:20:03Thomas Tate.
00:20:05Against.
00:20:07The.
00:20:08The.
00:20:09The.
00:20:10The.
00:20:11The.
00:20:12The.
00:20:13The.
00:20:14The.
00:20:15The.
00:20:16The.
00:20:17The.
00:20:18The.
00:20:19The.
00:20:21The.
00:20:23The.
00:20:24The.
00:20:25The.
00:20:26The.
00:20:27Gillian.
00:20:28Jackson was almost forced to
00:20:29retire back in 1989 after
00:20:30surgery for an detached retina.
00:20:32In his left eye and a torn
00:20:33retina in his right eye.
00:20:35Here you see that Thomas Tate
00:20:36is trying to counter a little
00:20:37more to make Julian miss the
00:20:38big shots and make him pay for
00:20:40it.
00:20:41But that also can be a very
00:20:42dangerous game.
00:20:44Tate although he does have
00:20:46who likes to throw combinations.
00:20:53Oh, there was a heavy right hand by Thomas Tate.
00:20:57And a counterpunch by Jackson. Yes.
00:21:01And that seemed to really wake Jackson up.
00:21:06Jackson has demonstrated at very least a good chin, too,
00:21:08but he seems so determined and so anxious right now.
00:21:11I'm wondering if he's not taking himself out of his own game plan just a little bit.
00:21:16These are real heavy punches by Jackson.
00:21:24And that one nearly had Tate in trouble, able to spin a word.
00:21:30Julian ran into one of his own just now,
00:21:32and I'll tell you, I'm getting to be a little bit more impressed with the resilience of Tate.
00:21:36Because these are thunderous deliveries by Jackson.
00:21:40As I spoke about earlier, Tate is getting his pound of flesh and letting his presence be known.
00:21:50And Thomas Tate with a good plurie.
00:21:53That gets a rise from the crowd.
00:21:58It was just two fights ago, Bobby,
00:22:00that Jackson knocked out Ismail Negron 50 seconds into the fight.
00:22:03The fastest knockout in middleweight championship history.
00:22:07But Thomas Tate, so far, is a different story.
00:22:10Well, he's rising to the occasion.
00:22:11He knows what he has in front of him, and he's fighting that type of fight.
00:22:14The first time you see Julian Jackson getting backed up.
00:22:31And Jackson got hit with a left jab by Thomas Tate.
00:22:36And he is keeping him at bay with the jab.
00:22:39And a right by Thomas Tate that landed.
00:22:42See, I think it's key there, too, when he gets backed up, that he tied Jackson up.
00:22:46Otherwise, he's going to be receiving all sorts of blows that won't be any good for him.
00:22:53But you're wondering, after seeing Jackson so many times,
00:22:56so effective with the knockout punch,
00:22:58if he's playing possum here and just looking to work on his boxing.
00:23:02But as you said, that could get him in some trouble, too.
00:23:07Well, fighters do that, but especially punching, you've got to be careful.
00:23:12I'm going to go, you're going to go, you're going to go, you're going to go, you're going to go, you're going to go.
00:23:17Okay?
00:23:19You're doing good.
00:23:20Take your time.
00:23:21You're doing.
00:23:22Take your time.
00:23:23You're walking up right here.
00:23:24You're walking up right here.
00:23:25Okay?
00:23:26You're feeling good?
00:23:27Okay?
00:23:28Come on.
00:23:29Take a deep breath.
00:23:29Take your head, man.
00:23:30Let me stay on the bottom.
00:23:31I'm waiting for him too long.
00:23:33Okay.
00:23:33And I've got to keep walking there.
00:23:36Come on.
00:23:36Let's get some.
00:23:37Keep using that jab.
00:23:37Come on.
00:23:37And right now, let's go over to Steve Farhood.
00:23:45Steve, I have Jackson ahead 30 to 27.
00:23:49I've given him all three rounds, although that third round, obviously Thomas Tate did his best work.
00:23:54It was a real brawl of a round.
00:23:56But the difference is Jackson's punching power is far superior.
00:24:01All right, Steve, we'll be hearing from Steve Farhood throughout tonight
00:24:04with his unofficial scorecard during the two championship fights.
00:24:07Round four, scheduled for 12.
00:24:12Excellent round for Thomas Tate really hearing it from the crowd,
00:24:18getting encouragement from Alpine Bolden, who trained Ron Collins against Julian Jackson
00:24:23back on April the 10th in Mexico City.
00:24:26So he knows Jackson very well.
00:24:28I think if you notice, Jackson's calmed down a little bit.
00:24:29He's not rushing, swinging wildly.
00:24:31He's sitting a little more, looking to time, Tate a little.
00:24:33He's trying to draw him in still.
00:24:34And there's that jab once again by Thomas Tate.
00:24:40As I predicted earlier, this had the makings of the best fight of the night.
00:24:46And I think if it keeps up like this, it certainly will.
00:24:49Back comes Julian Jackson right above us.
00:24:52Thomas Tate not intimidated at all by the championship atmosphere
00:25:06and the knockout artist Julian Jackson,
00:25:10who is a two-time world champ, former WBA junior middleweight title holder.
00:25:14He's impressed with Thomas Tate savvy.
00:25:17He's waiting.
00:25:18He's playing his game the way he wants to play.
00:25:20He's not letting Julian take him out of his game plan.
00:25:23And he's got some real decent defense.
00:25:25And a very decent resume as far as his amateur career.
00:25:30220 wins, 18 losses over 11 years.
00:25:33He began his amateur career at the age of 11.
00:25:37Won a lot of championships.
00:25:41He got hit with a good right hand that really got his attention prior to that flurry.
00:25:45And he's been moving right now strictly in the defensive mode.
00:25:47In 86, Tate won the gold medal at the U.S. Olympic Festival.
00:25:54Come on, Brian.
00:25:54Was runner-up to Michael Moore at the USA ABF Championships.
00:25:58In 88, he was the U.S. Olympic Trials Western champ
00:26:01and lost a close decision in the Olympic Trials Championship.
00:26:05Heavy right there by Tate.
00:26:09Tate is showing me something here today.
00:26:10I haven't seen him in a fight like this.
00:26:12And obviously, Julian Jackson, one of today's very best,
00:26:14this is, even in a loss here, this is going to do a lot for his career.
00:26:18Tate is 24-1, 19 knockouts.
00:26:21Had 22 consecutive wins, 18 by knockout before his first defeat.
00:26:26Suffered his first and only loss in his 23rd bout in December of 91,
00:26:31losing a 12-round decision to Percy Harris.
00:26:34Julian Jackson with a combination.
00:26:36He stood in trade right there, punch for punch, hooks in right hands.
00:26:39Both of them got hit clean, but obviously, Jackson's punches did more damage.
00:26:43And the chase is on.
00:26:46Julian Jackson looking to blanket Thomas Tate.
00:26:59And Tate is in trouble.
00:27:02He goes down to one knee.
00:27:05You notice he looked to his phone and said,
00:27:07don't worry, I'm all right.
00:27:07He went down to avoid getting hit with that big bomb.
00:27:09Good move.
00:27:11Hey, give me a blow.
00:27:13As the bell sounds to end round four.
00:27:17Tate shaking it off.
00:27:19The original left hook really, really hurt him,
00:27:21and he saw himself that he was going to be in a little more trouble,
00:27:23and he just sat down to get the rest.
00:27:24He's not a big hit.
00:27:27Come on.
00:27:29Oh, that's good thinking now.
00:27:30Okay?
00:27:31You gotta settle down a little bit.
00:27:32You gotta settle down and get the jab.
00:27:33Reach it out so you can stick that jab up a little bit.
00:27:35Okay?
00:27:37Get that right hand in there.
00:27:38You can hit this fucking with the right hand.
00:27:40You doing great, man?
00:27:41Fine.
00:27:42How's it going?
00:27:43Okay?
00:27:46There we see that sequence again.
00:27:48Got his back to the corner in a dangerous position again.
00:27:51Jackson always with the left hook again to start it.
00:27:53Tate's hurt.
00:27:54He realizes he needs a rest.
00:27:55Just takes it to one knee to take the rest.
00:27:57He gets his eight count, and he looks clear-eyed to me.
00:28:01Another angle of the same thing.
00:28:03His back's getting toward the ropes.
00:28:04Boom, the left hook.
00:28:05His punches are so hard that you can net let him hit.
00:28:08He can't hit you with anything.
00:28:13And round five, it is scheduled for 12 for the WBC Middleweight Championship.
00:28:18The champion, Julian Jackson, in the white with the Virgin Islands motif.
00:28:24The challenger, Thomas Tate, in the red.
00:28:28Well, Jackson seems to have gotten things back on track.
00:28:31I'm sure the knockdown was a big confidence builder, and he is stalking with a vengeance.
00:28:36He had Thomas Tate down at the end of round four.
00:28:41And once again, all over Tate.
00:28:43He must be in incredible condition to take so much energy to throw punches that hard every single time.
00:28:54Every punch has an evil intent.
00:29:01He looks like he's closing in for the kill.
00:29:04It's almost like a Mike Tyson in the middleweight division.
00:29:09Scary.
00:29:11He's getting hit, too, but he's dishing out a lot more.
00:29:15Julian Jackson.
00:29:18And Tate once again staggers.
00:29:20Remember, this is Richard Steele, who's known for stopping these kinds of situations.
00:29:26Let's see how he reacts.
00:29:28He's watching Tate closing and telling Tate to fight back.
00:29:33Tate's just trying, like hell right now, to just counter with the left hook.
00:29:36Oh, and he hurt Jackson with the left hook, but here comes Jackson back.
00:29:40And Jackson is stunned.
00:29:43And Jackson with the left hook.
00:29:45Look at this exchange.
00:29:47This is incredible.
00:29:52Tate took Steele's advice and did fight back.
00:29:55Jackson looking again, waiting to load up.
00:29:57Watch the hook.
00:29:58There's another hook by Tate.
00:30:02Is Jackson in trouble?
00:30:06I think Jackson's a little tired now, too, all those big punches.
00:30:09Tate throws a little quicker, a little more accurate.
00:30:13Less than a minute to go in a furious fifth round.
00:30:17And both seem arm-weary.
00:30:23Keep him up!
00:30:36Keep him up!
00:30:37Thomas Tate!
00:30:39Landy!
00:30:41No holding, says Richard Steele.
00:30:45the team. After getting hurt early in the round, Tate has come back to win this round.
00:30:51And this is the man who was on the deck at the end of round four, Thomas Tate. What a
00:30:55comeback here in round five. Now you see Julian Jackson doing exactly what we had before. He's
00:31:01moving and Tate is the aggressor. Thomas Tate showing he's got a chin too. And that is it
00:31:12for a three crowns.
00:31:22Take a deep breath.
00:31:26You've got to jump down with your punches. You're going over his head and missing him too much.
00:31:31Any time you get in that position, haul him. Don't let him get off. Haul him. Haul him.
00:31:37Come on now. You're going back to the basics.
00:31:41You get a lot more confidence now. Take some deep breath. Take deep breath. Come on.
00:31:46Well.
00:31:51Jackson's doing what he's been doing for a lot of the fight. Aggressive. Aggressive.
00:31:53Always punching. Backing him up the ropes. He's got Tate in a little trouble.
00:31:56Richard Steele at one point in time even had to mention to take the fight back.
00:31:59And take counter with the left hook. Taking Richard Steele's advice. Getting Julian Jackson
00:32:06a little bit of trouble. A couple left hooks in a row. Back him up. Right hand. What a fight.
00:32:14Round six. Scheduled for 12.
00:32:17A very confident challenger. Thomas Tate is trying to do what most thought was the near impossible.
00:32:22Tate the WBC middleweight title away from the two-time champion Julian Jackson.
00:32:30He comes off a tremendous fifth round.
00:32:33Right now, Jackson is still on the retreat. I'm not sure if he's tired.
00:32:37If he's trying to lure him in again for one of those big bombs.
00:32:40But it's going to be an interesting fight right now. Tate seems to have a fire.
00:32:45Oh, Tate landed with a right.
00:32:48Tate is showing absolutely zero fear here. And I have to admire this man.
00:32:53He came here to do exactly what he said he was going to do.
00:32:58Tate boring in again. Going to the head. And making contact.
00:33:03As we talked about earlier, when the big punchers don't land those big punches
00:33:07or they use too much of them in a wild manner, they can run out of gas. That may be the case.
00:33:10Prior to that miss, another right by Thomas Tate. And Tate again barreling in.
00:33:17Both missed big right hands.
00:33:22There's the explosive left hook by Julian Jackson, but defended well by Tate.
00:33:29Right now, Jackson's looking to harness one or two big ones at a time.
00:33:32And I'll tell you, Tate is just looking to work, working, working, working, working.
00:33:39It has developed into a slugfest.
00:33:42Midway through the sixth.
00:33:44Looks like Tate is looking to measure Jackson out with the jab and finish it with the big right.
00:33:58Without the jab, it would be a dangerous move for him.
00:34:01But as long as he uses that jab, it's going to be very effective.
00:34:04Not landing in that story, Tate.
00:34:07I have him winning this round, too.
00:34:09The crowd reacting to everything that Tate is throwing.
00:34:14As they root for the underdog.
00:34:19Some of those body punches look like they bothered Tate a little bit.
00:34:28Again, Jackson, one or two really big ones.
00:34:31And when they get tired, all it takes is one of their shots and it bites over.
00:34:38Tate landing with combinations in their hands!
00:34:40He's got it!
00:34:49We have done several Jackson fights and I've never seen this kind of reaction from Julian Jackson.
00:34:55Well, his heart's going to get tested right now in his determination, that's for sure.
00:35:01The last time Jackson went six rounds, 1989.
00:35:04Frank, stop, man. Keep it up in front of him.
00:35:07Shark up another one.
00:35:10Heard up.
00:35:15Stealth!
00:35:17Stealth!
00:35:19Take the deep breath, take the deep breath.
00:35:21Keep the deep breath.
00:35:22baqd bbbbbbfd.
00:35:32You're waiting for him to throw his right hand.
00:35:39Here we see Tate turning the tables, pushing Julian Jackson back, pushing him into the ropes,
00:35:44getting off on him.
00:35:45He's not throwing his punches as hard, but he's throwing a lot more of them, and he's being more accurate with it.
00:35:49Later in the round, here he comes again, doing the same thing.
00:35:52Julian Jackson, his back to the ropes, combinations instead of the one-two big-time big punches.
00:35:57Let's go over to Steve Farhood right now.
00:36:04Check in with his scorecard.
00:36:06Steve, I have Julian Jackson still ahead, but Thomas Tate has clearly won the last two rounds,
00:36:11and he's got all the momentum now as we move forward.
00:36:14All right, Steve, the big round for Jackson was round number four.
00:36:17He had Tate down at the end of the round, so automatically scores a 10-8 round there.
00:36:23We headed around seven, scheduled for 12 for the WBC middleweight title, and it has turned out to be a good one.
00:36:30Thomas Tate is trying to pull off the unthinkable.
00:36:35I think Tate's jab right now is going to be key for him, and Julian Jackson's going to have to unload a little bit to the body and slow Tate down,
00:36:40because he has a little more gas right now.
00:36:49Punches always hurt more when you're tired, and both of these fighters right now are unloading with all they have.
00:37:01It looks like a mouse developing under the right eye of Thomas Tate.
00:37:08With as many punches as both these fighters have taken, I'm surprised they're not in a lot more shape than they appear right now.
00:37:15A little bit of a resting round for both fighters.
00:37:17They've exerted an awful lot of energy, and right now they're sizing each other up a little bit and setting themselves up for later in the fight.
00:37:23Still a long way to go.
00:37:33Thomas Tate took a huge jump in the rankings to get this fight.
00:37:38It looks now like he is deserving of that height in the rankings.
00:37:43He went from something like number 22 to number 10.
00:37:46Well, he's certainly earning it tonight.
00:37:47He's earning every step he took up that ladder.
00:37:52Some people thought it was a mysterious jump, but he did make the jump, however.
00:37:59The boxing is mysterious in all aspects.
00:38:02You can say that again.
00:38:05That right hand just missed, just braised Thomas Tate's head.
00:38:13He's still looking for that one or two big punches to get him in trouble.
00:38:17Then the adrenaline takes over, and all of a sudden, ba-da-boom, there comes old punches that they're right now.
00:38:22They're dormant.
00:38:23What was that, ba-da-boom?
00:38:26That's usually how it sounds in Newark, where I train.
00:38:33What do you think about the gas tank now for both Jackson and Tate, Bobby?
00:38:45Well, it takes more energy to back up, and so I think Tate's exerting a little more right now.
00:38:49Their legs appear real good, but I'll tell you what.
00:38:51They have to be a little arm-weary, especially Jackson, because of all the energy he uses in those shots.
00:38:55He told us he trains to go 12 rounds, to go the distance, despite the fact that he has so many early knockouts.
00:39:05We may have to find out time.
00:39:07Well, the canvas seems to be very hard, not bouncy, which would be conducive to a boxer as opposed to a puncher.
00:39:16Come on, get the water, please.
00:39:22Small piece, small piece, come on.
00:39:24Okay, you're still messing with the right hand, trying to throw it into the head.
00:39:28You've got to move from the head and throw it down.
00:39:30Come on.
00:39:37Deep breath, deep breath, Jackson.
00:39:38Water.
00:39:41What rung is there?
00:39:42What rung is there?
00:39:43You just can't get to kill it.
00:39:44Get the hand-setting cross there.
00:39:45Come on.
00:39:46Hit them jabs in his face.
00:39:47Don't run from him.
00:39:48Move your head up about so you get some good shots at him.
00:39:50You hear me?
00:39:51Yeah.
00:39:52Okay, okay.
00:39:53You're doing great.
00:39:54You're doing great.
00:39:55We got him where we want him in the later round now.
00:39:57We got him where we want him.
00:39:59He's going for you, baby.
00:40:00Okay, you hear me?
00:40:02Don't forget the jab, he's going for you.
00:40:03Don't forget the jab.
00:40:04Don't forget the jab, okay?
00:40:05New kid on the block.
00:40:06New kid on the block.
00:40:11You heard the team tape, Carter.
00:40:12You got it where you want him in the later rounds new kid on the block
00:40:17Jackson's come out a little bit as a revived individual a little bit a little more determination his eyes certainly a little more pop to the punches
00:40:25Julian Jackson hasn't gone the distance in over ten years that includes one knockout loss and he does seem resurrected here in round eight
00:40:32It's a very big and most motivational speech and emotional speech in the corner of Julian Jackson
00:40:37Before him to go out there and work like if they know he can
00:40:39Jackson 44 and 142 knockouts the only loss was to Mike McCallum for the WBA junior middleweight title in 1986
00:40:50She takes speed now here starting to take it
00:40:55Big right hand
00:41:01Landing with that right is Jackson
00:41:05He's got tape on the run
00:41:07One big punch
00:41:18He was looking for he's got it now let's see what happens
00:41:20Maybe punch himself out again. Maybe he doesn't
00:41:24Try to just get tape off balance swarming
00:41:27Jackson looks extremely focused right here
00:41:33He's right above us as we look right into his eyes
00:41:37And he'll hit you anywhere on top of your head under your jaw around your rear and your back
00:41:41And his punches do damage
00:41:43He is destructive with just about every punch
00:41:45I think after the fight Thomas Tate will tell you that
00:41:48He is going to be one hurting man after this fight
00:41:52Last takes corner said we got him in late rounds
00:41:56That's where he won obviously don't have to take a little bit later
00:41:59Thomas Tate out of the Motor City of Detroit
00:42:0324-1
00:42:0519 knockouts
00:42:07Tate again going to the jab
00:42:18And things have settled down again
00:42:20He has withstood another onslaught by Julian Jackson
00:42:24Again it's the speed getting to Jackson when he gets caught
00:42:35He winds up with a big shot
00:42:37And again he runs into another right
00:42:38He can take a punch
00:42:50His defense is good
00:42:51He can give a few punches to now all of a sudden you have the tides turned again
00:42:54A flurry by Tate
00:42:55Tate showing he is in excellent condition
00:43:05We're into round eight
00:43:08He has taken a lot of punishment
00:43:09The jab here has kept Julian Jackson at bay
00:43:13What a round
00:43:14It's a man's man fight
00:43:15Great one
00:43:17Here at the Hilton Center
00:43:19And the fans appreciating it
00:43:21I'm walking in to him
00:43:22Make him get back
00:43:23Okay
00:43:24You're way too low to stop that right hand
00:43:26You got it cop
00:43:27Take some deep breath
00:43:29Listen to me
00:43:31Hold up
00:43:32This is your fight time
00:43:34Now all you gotta do is stay here
00:43:35Stay
00:43:36Stay
00:43:36You hear me?
00:43:37You hear me?
00:43:38Okay
00:43:38You got to step in
00:43:40You got to make it
00:43:41You're waiting
00:43:43You got to do a job on the right hand
00:43:44You're not doing that
00:43:47You're waiting to get a big bum off
00:43:49And one alone can do it now
00:43:50All right
00:43:51All right
00:43:51Come on
00:43:53Move it
00:43:54Move it
00:43:54Move it
00:43:55You have water
00:43:56Nothing still?
00:43:56Yes, I don't want any other one
00:44:00Tap down a little bit
00:44:01Round nine scheduled for twelve for the WBC middleweight championship
00:44:17Jackson comes right out
00:44:18Trying to establish his dominance again
00:44:19But they both look a little fresher than I could possibly even expect him to
00:44:23Up to this type of faith
00:44:24Not to mention the abuse they've taken
00:44:26And Bobby water cascading
00:44:29From the boxing trunks of Thomas Tate
00:44:32Sometimes they take a little cold water
00:44:35And put it down there
00:44:36And believe me
00:44:36It'll wake you up a little bit
00:44:37They may have put too much
00:44:39Like a river
00:44:43I always wondered what would happen if Jackson got taken into the rounds
00:44:52Late rounds at that type of pace
00:44:54So far it stood up pretty well
00:44:55But being the big puncher
00:44:56He has to slow down in areas where take and just throw those little quick punches
00:45:00It's just not Jackson style
00:45:01But right now they both look to be in incredible condition
00:45:04This is uncharted territory as far as Julian Jackson is concerned
00:45:09It will be most interesting to see how he reacts
00:45:11And the tape team feel
00:45:14Feels that they have Jackson where they want him in the late rounds
00:45:18I spoke to Thomas Tate strainer and he said if it goes past seven or eight rounds
00:45:23He said we're going to be in territory that we really feel good
00:45:26Well Thomas Tate certainly putting out an impressive performance here
00:45:32When it looked like he was down and out in the early going
00:45:35He was knocked down late fourth round by the champion Julian Jackson
00:45:39Came back strong in the fifth round
00:45:42And has done well since
00:45:45Julian Jackson looks as if he's harnessing some energy of his own right here
00:45:48He may be more tired than he's letting on
00:45:50But again
00:45:51He may have to reach deep down into the reserve for this one
00:46:01He's starting to box a little more punches
00:46:03They've got a little bit of a little bit of speed to him
00:46:05And they're chanting for change they want to see what he can do
00:46:08And it looks like a near capacity crowd
00:46:12They seat 9,000 here and it's a tremendous crowd
00:46:15Of course Julio Cesar Chavez with Frankie Mitchell up next
00:46:19Well as I stated earlier and suspected I thought this was going to be the fight of the night
00:46:23And it's turning out to not let me down
00:46:25And it's turning out to not let me down
00:46:42Little cat and mouse going on here. They're both a little tired, both trying to set each other up and get that big one across again
00:46:46They're both a few punches by Jackson to the body
00:46:48Just a few moments ago to take
00:46:51Less than 20 seconds to go in round nine
00:47:09And this one is history
00:47:10Here at the Las Vegas Hilton
00:47:19It's a big triple header on Showtime
00:47:24We are seeing a dazzling fight between Julian Jackson and Thomas Tate for the WBC Middleweight Championship
00:47:31Steve Albert with Bobby Chess
00:47:33Let's check in once again with Steve Farhood's unofficial scorecard
00:47:36Steve? Steve, I have Julian Jackson ahead by four points
00:47:40And I really think that Thomas Tate made a big mistake
00:47:43In the seventh round giving away the momentum and starting to back up
00:47:46So on my card at least
00:47:48Tate would need a knockout or a 10-8 round along the way
00:47:52To get back into the fight
00:47:56If you have time, you're doing a great job
00:47:58Don't get tens over there, baby
00:48:00Okay, you're looking good
00:48:02Let's go, baby
00:48:03Let's go
00:48:04Let's go
00:48:05New champ, Thomas
00:48:06Give me a nice break
00:48:07Will he become the new chap?
00:48:13We'll find out as we go into round ten
00:48:16They took off the last round a little bit, so I'm expecting a little more action now
00:48:19We'll blow there by Julian Jackson cautioned by Richard Steele
00:48:28Good right by Jackson to the head of Tate
00:48:30It's been a pretty clean fight
00:48:36Again, you saw Jackson took off the last round a little bit
00:48:38Oppressed the action, but not too much
00:48:40And now he comes out saved up with some big bombs
00:48:43Good left hand by Tate
00:48:48Tate is a great counter hook
00:48:50He just feels the punches hit him and he unloads it
00:48:52He's on the mark most of the time
00:48:56And not many people, Bobby, have been able to
00:48:59withstand the punches of Julian Jackson over the years
00:49:02And Thomas Tate showing everybody a lot
00:49:06I noticed that the three knockdown rule wasn't in effect
00:49:08With Julian Jackson
00:49:09If they go down more than twice and get up, I wouldn't believe it anyway
00:49:12Tate able to block that left hook by Julian Jackson
00:49:21I think Tate has certainly gained the respect of not only the boxing public
00:49:24But the general public
00:49:25And he will become more revered if not feared in the future
00:49:30I don't think there's any question about that
00:49:35There's no question that he is respected by Julian Jackson right now
00:49:39There's no question about that
00:49:42Midway round 10
00:49:45Except for possibly Mike Tyson
00:49:46I don't think I've ever seen a man more intent on aggression and vicious attack than Julian Jackson
00:49:51And yet the complete antithesis outside the ring
00:49:55Very soft-spoken and mellow
00:49:58Super nice guy
00:49:59Great
00:50:02Again, there's the key for Tate
00:50:03Use that jab to keep Julian Jackson off balance
00:50:05If he doesn't do that
00:50:06He's gonna start loading up again
00:50:07There's that left hook by Julian Jackson
00:50:09And back comes Tate
00:50:10But Jackson is scoring here in the 10th round
00:50:16There's no quitting Tate
00:50:17And Julian Jackson is probably gonna have his hands pulled for the rest of this fight
00:50:21And look out!
00:50:22Tate goes through the ropes!
00:50:25Oh!
00:50:26It was ruled to slip and it was
00:50:27He hit the water in the corner and went right down through
00:50:29So it is not ruled as a knockdown
00:50:31Although
00:50:32In very animated fashion and dramatic fashion
00:50:35Something you don't see very often
00:50:37Thomas Tate slipping and going through the ropes
00:50:43So we're seeing a little bit of everything in this one
00:50:45Oh! What a right hand by Tate!
00:50:48He comes back from outside the ring
00:50:50To unleash a big right
00:50:52And another one has really hit him in the temple
00:50:54And that hurts
00:50:57And now he's trying to swarm all over Jackson
00:51:01But Jackson comes right back
00:51:03There's no quitting either one of these men
00:51:04I'll tell you I can't tell you the men of respect I've gained for both of them
00:51:12And for only the second time in his career
00:51:15Julian Jackson will go to the 11th
00:51:17As Tate has a little trouble finding the corner
00:51:19There's his brother
00:51:21Former IVF middleweight champ
00:51:23Frank Tate
00:51:24And boy, does he have to be proud
00:51:26Of his kid brother
00:51:28Six moments
00:51:30Six minutes
00:51:32One round and it's actually two
00:51:33Okay, now let's get busy
00:51:35Keep your eyes open
00:51:36Use the jab
00:51:37Everything you do is up the jab
00:51:38We'll snap right in
00:51:39Back him up
00:51:40Get on over that
00:51:42Here we see him backing up
00:51:43Thomas Tate to the corner
00:51:45He hits the water and his feet just separated slips
00:51:47And he just falls clean through the ropes
00:51:49No punches involved really
00:51:54Just to show he wasn't hurt
00:51:55He unloads some right hands
00:51:57And get and actually get Julian Jackson a little bit of trouble
00:52:01Tremendous recuperative powers by Thomas Tate
00:52:03Keep it clean
00:52:05Keep it clean
00:52:06Keep it clean
00:52:07Keep it clean
00:52:08Keep it clean
00:52:09Keep it clean
00:52:10Keep it clean
00:52:11Round 11
00:52:13Keep it clean
00:52:14They touch gloves
00:52:15Showing
00:52:16Tremendous respect
00:52:17Usually you only do that
00:52:18In the last round
00:52:19Boy, as we get showered with water
00:52:22The Frank Tate was yelling only one more round
00:52:24Maybe the fighters heard him and thought that he was correct
00:52:26Yeah
00:52:27But there are two more
00:52:2911 and 12
00:52:33Frank Tate yelling to his younger brother Thomas
00:52:36Keep boxing
00:52:37Keep boxing
00:52:38And that looks like
00:52:39What Taylor's doing
00:52:41Again, it's that jab
00:52:42Double jab that sets up that right hand
00:52:43That's when he is the most effective
00:52:44It keeps Julian Jackson with the jab in his face
00:52:46And hitting him
00:52:47Good
00:52:48Follow up right
00:52:49After the left jab by Thomas Tate
00:52:50And it was a nice counter by Jackson
00:52:51He's starting to counter back as Tate was doing to him all night
00:52:56Man, the toughest fight for Julian Jackson in years
00:53:01I really wonder if he even expected it
00:53:04I really wonder if he even expected it
00:53:06I really wonder if he even expected it
00:53:09I really wonder if he even expected it
00:53:12Tate a huge underdog coming in
00:53:21Although he did tell us that the way in yesterday
00:53:23He expected a mind game
00:53:25Yeah, he did say he thought a little bit of a chess match would take place
00:53:28But this has just been all fight
00:53:34He did say to us that Tate will try to move around a lot
00:53:38Thomas Tate impressing a lot of people with this performance tonight
00:53:45As we talked about fighters getting their pound of flesh
00:53:47Tate has certainly got his today as well
00:53:57Right hand by Tate
00:53:58I think
00:53:59I think
00:54:00Gillian Jackson's showing me a pretty decent fit himself
00:54:02He's been hit with an awful lot of shots very clean
00:54:04I think right now it appears to me that Gillian Jackson saved himself for a big finish,
00:54:14only really fighting with a nominal amount of aggression.
00:54:18I think in the next round, I think all hell's going to break this.
00:54:22Tough act to follow after what we've seen.
00:54:30You are going to have some sore, swollen faces after this one.
00:54:34A straight right by Gillian Jackson.
00:54:37Push on the face of Taylor.
00:54:39Three or four fights like this could take 10 years off of career.
00:54:42Unbelievable punishment that these guys are withstanding.
00:54:47Come on, work it, get out of here. Work it, get out.
00:54:53Julian's punch is just so heavy, you could probably hear him without a microphone.
00:54:56You know, we've been talking about Gillian Jackson going the distance for the first time in a long while.
00:55:01I can't remember the last time Richard Steele has gone the distance.
00:55:06Yeah, there's been some controversy with him stopping fights a little too early,
00:55:08and certainly this will help him because he let it go and it turned out okay.
00:55:11Take the last one, sir.
00:55:21Small piece, small piece, Tim.
00:55:24Take the small piece.
00:55:27Come on, sir, this is the last one.
00:55:29He's going to fight everything.
00:55:30Okay, this is your last and final round.
00:55:32Let's keep it clean.
00:55:33Use that jab.
00:55:35Let's have that, let's have the bag, let's have the ice bag.
00:55:39You need a jab, this is fun, final round.
00:55:41Let's keep it clean.
00:55:42Tap the shit off the wall.
00:55:43Tap the shit off the wall.
00:55:45You hear me?
00:55:45You understand me.
00:55:46Six minutes.
00:55:46I mean, three minutes.
00:55:47All you got is three minutes.
00:55:48Okay, fight when you want to fight.
00:55:50Fight when you want to fight.
00:55:51Locks, lock, use the jab.
00:55:52You got to get busy.
00:55:53You got to hit him anywhere.
00:55:53Chats, anywhere.
00:55:54Stay busy, man.
00:55:56Big upset, Thomas.
00:55:57Ladies and gentlemen, we're approaching the 12th round for the trophy, gentlemen.
00:56:05The look of brotherly love there.
00:56:08Brother Frank and Florence.
00:56:11Thomas Tate.
00:56:12Here comes Thomas.
00:56:13Here comes Julian as they touch gloves for round 12.
00:56:17What a tremendous fight this has been.
00:56:20This may sound strange, but I'd rather be in Thomas Tate's shoes than Frank's.
00:56:23When I rooted for my brothers when I was younger, the stress is unbelievable.
00:56:27Bobby coming in.
00:56:29Thomas Tate, a 12-to-1 underdog.
00:56:32I reckon the odds makers will change things in the near future.
00:56:35Yes.
00:56:38A little too late for this one, though.
00:56:41Well, certainly he hasn't fought like a 12-to-1 underdog.
00:56:44He's fought almost as if the fight were...
00:56:45Hold him, Bryce.
00:56:46Stop it.
00:56:47Keep it clean.
00:56:47Keep it clean, guys.
00:56:48Richard Steele continuing to tell the two fighters, keep it clean.
00:56:53The Tate corner said, continue to box.
00:56:55Use the jab.
00:56:56Stay busy.
00:56:58Hopping on!
00:56:59Hopping on!
00:57:00Keep him in front!
00:57:02A couple of the rounds that were close.
00:57:04You can't tell where the judges are, but I'll tell you what.
00:57:06Tate's going to need some kind of finish here to bring it in with any chance.
00:57:10Jackson looking to end it with Thomas Tate staring to the ceiling.
00:57:15But Tate refuses to give in.
00:57:20Blood coming from the nose of Tate.
00:57:24Both fighters are showing a lot of signs of defense right now.
00:57:28Once again, I'm great!
00:57:29Step back!
00:57:30Let me go!
00:57:30Go home!
00:57:31Go home!
00:57:31It is extremely hot.
00:57:33It's over 100 degrees outside.
00:57:36It's hot under the lights.
00:57:39The place is packed.
00:57:40A lot of body heat.
00:57:42You can't even conceive of how hot it is up in the ring right now.
00:57:47I mean, Jackson just turned his back and started to walk away.
00:57:50I don't understand.
00:57:51And I thought he might be in a little bit of trouble.
00:57:53Jackson's in some trouble.
00:57:54He was staggered there.
00:57:56His legs are not under my...
00:57:57That was just for sure.
00:57:58That sure was trying to illustrate that he's all right.
00:58:04But usually it's just the opposite when they do that.
00:58:07Go home!
00:58:07Go home!
00:58:10One minute to go of the fight for the WBC middleweight championship.
00:58:14Go home!
00:58:17Give it to me, man.
00:58:18Let's go!
00:58:20Julian Jackson with all he can handle against Thomas Tate.
00:58:23All this went through the rope.
00:58:24Tate ran into a big shot.
00:58:26He got a little too aggressive, a little too wild.
00:58:27Ran into a big shot.
00:58:29Bleeding heavily from the nose now could be busted.
00:58:32But what a smart fight being fought here by Tate
00:58:35against the champion, Julian Jackson, no matter what happens.
00:58:42And look, Jackson is almost out on his feet.
00:58:45Jackson right now is exhausted, and he's digging hard, too.
00:58:48He's looking for one or two shots just to keep Tate off.
00:58:51He is totally fatigued.
00:58:52Can Tate take advantage with 15 seconds to go?
00:58:55Well, I think he probably went in the last round, but the fight may just have been a little
00:59:00too far out of reach.
00:59:01The problem is Tate's out of gas, too.
00:59:03What a fight.
00:59:04Anyone that paid for this fight got the money for it.
00:59:07And it ends!
00:59:08In a flurry.
00:59:09Oh, what a show of emotion by Thomas Tate, thanking the man upstairs.
00:59:25And Julian Jackson doing the same.
00:59:29What a fight.
00:59:30And Frank Tate raising his brother.
00:59:42The former IBF middleweight champ embracing his kid brother, Thomas.
00:59:48Oh, that's right.
00:59:56Yeah.
01:00:01What seems like that?
01:00:06You need it.
01:00:06That's right.
01:00:07That's right.
01:00:08We need that.
01:00:08What?
01:00:09the unofficial scorecard before
01:00:11we get the official results.
01:00:12So if we're set let's check in
01:00:14with our Steve Firewood.
01:00:15Steve Steve I have Julian
01:00:17Jackson winning this fight and
01:00:19retaining the title 115 112.
01:00:23I think that Tate might have
01:00:24taken that last round.
01:00:25I think he clearly took the last
01:00:27round.
01:00:27I don't think it was enough.
01:00:30All right Steve.
01:00:31Thank you very much.
01:00:32That's the way Steve Farhood
01:00:33saw it ringside.
01:00:36We'll get the official word
01:00:37momentarily.
01:00:39It's a good one.
01:00:40He's a good one.
01:00:41He's a good one.
01:00:42He's a good one.
01:00:43He's a good one.
01:00:44Billion Jackson looking to
01:00:46retain his WBC Midway title.
01:00:49Yeah.
01:00:50He was good.
01:00:51Let's flash back to the only
01:00:53knockdown of the fight.
01:00:55This was late round four.
01:00:56Again there's a left hook he's
01:00:57pushing him back.
01:00:58He hits him with it.
01:01:00Didn't see it probably come
01:01:01around the gloves.
01:01:02Tate's in trouble but clear
01:01:03headed enough to just go down
01:01:05to rest.
01:01:06And he see turns and says I'm
01:01:09all right.
01:01:12But then in round five Bobby.
01:01:14Well again here's his counter
01:01:15left hook he keeps countering
01:01:16every time Julian Jackson
01:01:17throws counters the hook
01:01:18follows it up with some right
01:01:19hands.
01:01:20And let's face it.
01:01:21I mean he threw a lot of
01:01:22punches Julian Jackson absorbed
01:01:23quite a bit himself.
01:01:24What a comeback by Tate after
01:01:30being decked in the fourth
01:01:31round.
01:01:34Well we're just about set now for
01:01:36our official announcement.

01:03:23McCallum aside the toughest fight
01:03:24of your career.
01:03:25Hey it was a tough fight man.
01:03:26I must tip my hat to Thomas Tate.
01:03:27He came out to box me.
01:03:28They worked on their plan.
01:03:29And it worked beautiful.
01:03:30I boxed much more than a lot of
01:03:31people expected.
01:03:32And I would grade myself.
01:03:33I would grade myself.
01:03:34I would give myself at least a seven.
01:03:35All right.
01:03:36Now two quick questions that are
01:03:37obvious.
01:03:38One is how did he take your punches.
01:03:39And two is how did you take his punches.
01:03:41Well he took my punches very well.
01:03:42He went down I took his punches.
01:03:46I got stunned.
01:03:47I must say he punched pretty well.
01:03:48There's no doubt about it.
01:03:49I could take a punch a lot of people
01:03:52tonight, Julian Jackson has what it
01:03:53takes to be a champion.
01:03:55Julian Jackson has what it takes
01:03:57to be a champion.
01:03:58And the game husband has the
01:03:59champion.
01:04:00And I want to take the Jordan
01:04:02to take a punch.
01:04:03I could take a punch a lot of
01:04:05people tonight.
01:04:08Julian Jackson had what
01:04:09it takes to be a champion.
01:04:10be a champion julian do you remember the last time you were backed up in a fight there were
01:04:14rounds there were where he backed you up oh definitely man you know i'm not you know i'm
01:04:20not saying that i'm i'm iron man i'm you know i'm made of steel you know i had to do what i had to
01:04:25do to get away from the punches and i did them you know split split uh instinct all right julian
01:04:31tremendous effort let's let's get in thomas tate also right here i'd like to say hi to my family
01:04:36new york uh claudia john my father and the people in the virgin islands i love you all and god bless
01:04:42each and everyone and stay faithful to jesus okay stay here julian while we talk to thomas
01:04:46thomas tate tremendous effort you took the punches of the best puncher in boxing do you feel you won
01:04:52the fight yeah i feel i i feel i want it but uh you know i uh julian good fighter uh he uh he took
01:05:04everything i had and i i uh just kept on going but uh you do think you won the fight though yeah
01:05:09i thought i won the fight but uh you know both of us as men feel as though he won and i feel as
01:05:17though i won but uh i know clearly that i won you know he shot big shots but majority shots you know i
01:05:22took uh the round that i went down i didn't want to shoot him to shoot uh heavy shots to get knocked
01:05:27out a lot of guys stand up and and just take his punches but i just did the smart thing just kneel the
01:05:32one knee and then collect myself and then goes to go back let him throw wild shots and just try to
01:05:36uh counter on some shots i had him hurt a couple times uh uh thomas you you took his punches you
01:05:44came back and you got momentum of the fight then in round seven you started moving you took a little
01:05:50rest i thought it was a turning point in the fight what do you think no i don't think so what
01:05:53happened is uh i just tried to collect myself and try to uh not really get in his exchanges with him
01:05:59and just like i said collect myself and get back round to back back to round eight i know i have
01:06:04full five more rounds to go so you know i just try to uh conserve myself but then again just let
01:06:09them go and just throw wild bombs and stuff and you know just count on them and uh i did but uh
01:06:15like i said julian julian uh been around a long time man my time will come i'm not worried about it
01:06:20all right your time will i know i'll be right back so i'm gonna be champion i i'm not gonna even
01:06:25worry about thomas you you had his chance you know every king be the throne so uh what do you
01:06:29what do you think is next for you what what is next i for sure right now i'm just gonna uh go
01:06:34back and collect myself and uh uh see what don's up to and uh see what's on the bargain table okay
01:06:40i ain't really worried about it just uh i i'm all right down to i'm all right julian i'm all right
01:06:44you know he know what maybe you'll get julian again julian same question for you
