00:00The Weinstein Company is currently taking bids for its assets, and the winner will be putting
00:04up at least $310 million. But famed director Quentin Tarantino says none of his agreements
00:10should be assigned because he's owed massive royalties. In court papers filed on Monday,
00:14Tarantino was among various stars posting objections and reserving rights.
00:18Tarantino has had a long-running relationship with Harvey Weinstein, whose alleged sexual
00:23misconduct caused the downfall of the once-prestigious indie studio. Tarantino's work
00:27with Weinstein dates back to the 1990s Miramax days of Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and
00:32Jackie Brown. But his most immediate concern is with the four films he directed for the Weinstein
00:37Company in the past decade. According to bankruptcy papers, royalties are owed for
00:41Grindhouse Death Proof, Inglorious Bastards, Django Unchained, and Hateful Eight.
00:46Tarantino wants $300,000 for Grindhouse, $575,000 for Inglorious Bastards, $1.25 million for
00:53Django Unchained, and nearly $2.5 million for Hateful Eight. He's demanding an accounting for
00:59each of these films as well. As for the Miramax titles, he acknowledges that the Weinstein
01:03Company doesn't have right title or interest to those pictures, but nevertheless, he's
01:08reserving his rights to assert objections with more information. Leonardo DiCaprio is also
01:13contesting how the winning bidder would have to pay nothing to cure a default under his
01:17agreement for Django Unchained. Meanwhile, Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams are fighting over money
01:22from the film Southpaw. And Jennifer Lawrence says she hasn't been given enough information
01:27for the proposed $102,623 amount to cure a contract breach for her deal over Silver Linings
01:34Playbook. Her attorneys want the opportunity to inspect the company's books and records to look
01:38at revenues generated by the award-winning film and assess her profit participation. Other big names
01:43making an appearance today include author Stephen King, Heidi Klum, Bill Murray, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts,
01:50the estate of Wes Craven, Lin-Manuel Miranda's in the Heights, John Cusack, and even Harvey Weinstein himself.
01:56As for the objection from Weinstein, his lawyers write,
01:59In this case, the debtors are attempting to sell assets free and clear of any interest at the
02:03earliest stage of their bankruptcy cases. And the court should carefully scrutinize the debtors'
02:08heightened burden of proving the elements necessary for authorization.
