Michelle Obama discussed her daughter's heavily guarded prom send-off, the legalization of gay marriage and more when she stopped by 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' on Thursday to promote her new book, 'Becoming.'

00:06Michelle Obama and Ellen DeGeneres stopped by a Costco for a special book signing.

00:11The former first lady also discussed her daughter's heavily guarded prom send-off,

00:15the legalization of gay marriage, and more when she stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show

00:19on Thursday to promote her new book, Becoming.

00:22In the book, Michelle details her oldest daughter Malia's prom experience.

00:26When Ellen asked her about it, Michelle revealed that three cars with security detail

00:30had to follow Malia and her date to the dance.

00:33And Barack was like, this makes running for a second term all worthwhile.

00:37My daughter is being followed by men with guns to crime.

00:41In the book, Michelle also wrote about the night gay marriage was legalized.

00:45She told Ellen that she and Malia tried to sneak outside to celebrate with the crowd

00:49gathered in front of the White House. After first being stopped by security, Michelle said

00:54they eventually made it outside and stood along with the cheering crowd off to the side

00:58so no one could see them.

01:00The talk show host also shared a special video that gave a look back at the former first lady's

01:04impact on America.

01:05It is our fundamental belief in the power of hope that has allowed us to rise above the voices

01:11of doubt and division, of anger and fear.

01:16The surprise tribute video made Michelle visibly emotional.

01:19And she even joined Ellen in a pre-recorded segment where the two hosted an impromptu

01:24book signing at a Costco.

01:26Ellen used a megaphone to announce to customers that Michelle would be meeting fans

01:30and signing copies of the book.

01:31No surprise, Ellen also did her best to embarrass the former first lady throughout the segment.

01:38Oh my God.

01:39What?

01:40Michelle, you can't do that?
