The prime minister's former senior political secretary and the businessman are charged at the same sessions court in Kuala Lumpur, before judge Suzana Hussin.
00:00Former Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister Shamsul Iskandar Akin and controversial businessman Albert Teh were charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today with four counts of corruption each involving a total of RM176,829 in alleged gratification.
00:19Shamsul 49 and Teh 37 pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them separately before Judge Susanna Husin.
00:27Shamsul was charged with four offenses, agreeing to receive RM100,000, receiving furniture and electrical appliances worth RM14,580,3, receiving RM40,000 in cash, and receiving furniture and electrical goods worth RM22,249, all from Teh as an inducement to assist firms in which Teh had an interest to obtain approval for mineral exploration licenses in Sabah.
00:55Teh was charged with four counts of giving the bribes to Shamsul.
01:00The charges against Shamsul were framed under Section 17 Paragraph A of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, while Teh was charged under Section 17 Paragraph B of the same Act.
