00:00Anyway, Pods, let's get into it.
00:01Well, it's not just Pods.
00:03888-957-9570. Why do you hate them?
00:06No, I'm not going to do why. This is just an observation.
00:09And the Warriors, as an organization, they get to do something with this going forward.
00:14That's it. That's it.
00:16This fan base, and I'm not going to say, nothing that we say means everybody.
00:23Like, nothing.
00:24There are so many different opinions and angles from the fan base.
00:28But here's, like, the quick summation of what we've been through today.
00:33We reboot it and let you know that from now until the end of this show,
00:37two-plus hours from now, it's just you, and let's talk out this Warrior situation.
00:43888-957-9570.
00:46Okay?
00:47And the question we're asking is, are they doing a good job?
00:50From Steve Kerr on up.
00:52Because we've separated this into three different sort of topics.
00:55There's the micro, no, I would not have taken Pat Spencer out last night,
01:00even if the dude was tired.
01:02Because we were all watching a story, and I wanted to see the end of the movie.
01:06And the movie ended.
01:08Before it ended.
01:09Because you took Pat Spencer out.
01:11And that was the movie we were watching.
01:13I'm not, like, terribly mad about it,
01:16because I just don't have it in my body to get mad about Pat Spencer
01:20being taken out of a basketball game.
01:23But I was there.
01:25I wanted him to stay in.
01:26I noticed it right away.
01:28I thought to myself, why is he taking Pat Spencer out?
01:30But he took Pat Spencer out, and then you followed it up
01:33with a pods miss and a pods turnover.
01:36And here we go.
01:37So that's the micro.
01:39And you're down seven, and it's pretty much over.
01:41Ball game.
01:42And the whole time I thought the Thunder were going to win.
01:45They're the champs.
01:46They're really good at finishing games.
01:47They're phenomenal.
01:48They're so good.
01:50And they shoot well, and they're deep, and they're fast, and they're tall,
01:54and they're all the things that the Warriors sometimes aren't.
01:58But I still wanted to see the end of that movie.
02:01So that's kind of the micro.
02:03The macro is, are the Warriors doing a good job?
02:07Look, my mind goes to the offseason,
02:09and I still don't really understand why they allowed this thing
02:13to kind of go the way that it did,
02:16which is their offseason got dominated by one person,
02:19and they couldn't make any moves until training camp.
02:22It got weird and wonky.
02:24We had an agent come on the station for like two and a half hours
02:28live from a gym while Jonathan is like performing over his left shoulder.
02:32The whole thing is just weird.
02:34And the Warriors, they allowed that to dominate their offseason.
02:39And could they have gotten into this thing a little bit earlier
02:42and maybe gotten someone who's seven feet tall and could defend the rim?
02:46I don't know, but maybe.
02:47That's my frustration.
02:49So that's sort of the macro.
02:51And then there's what I put in the other category,
02:54which is twofold.
02:57And it's always about Kaminga and Pods.
03:00And here for me is the bottom line.
03:02Jonathan had some nice moments last night.
03:05He had more not nice moments.
03:07Whatever.
03:08It's a Tuesday.
03:09It's not a big deal.
03:10But his agent tweeting about it from the stands,
03:14what the hell are we doing out there in the middle of the fourth quarter
03:16as if Jonathan is the linchpin to the whole fourth,
03:20which was not the case because the Warriors were playing well
03:22and the linchpin people last night were Pat Spencer and Seth Curry.
03:26So his agent is out there contributing to continued toxicity in this relationship.
03:33And then meantime, here comes Brandon Pajemski,
03:36who has had a nice night.
03:38He played well.
03:39He was their leading scorer along with Pat Spencer at 17 points.
03:43And they stick him in the game and they pull Pat.
03:46And Brandon has two bad possessions.
03:48And here we are again.
03:49And my observation is, I don't really even care what the reason.
03:53I don't care why anymore.
03:55Here's the observation.
03:56This fan base doesn't really like Pods.
03:59And it's kind of a problem.
04:01It's a problem for the Warriors.
04:04Like, your favorite NBA team is not built for you to not like them.
04:08But that's where we are.
04:10Because he's got floppy hair, and he thinks he's better than he is,
04:14and he does odd things on the court sometimes,
04:17and he represents something that a lot of fans resent.
04:22Because he represents, oh, you get to play through your bad decisions
04:27while XYZ and my favorite players over there are watching you play.
04:31That's it.
04:32I'm trying to think about the comp,
04:33and the first one I thought about was Patrick Bailey,
04:37where, you know, Patrick Bailey, you get to play even though you hit 210,
04:40and boy, you're a good defender, and you can throw people out,
04:43and you can frame better than anyone.
04:45So you get to play 130 games because you're that guy,
04:49even though we're going to bat you eighth, you're going to bat you ninth,
04:51and you have the one or two great moments a year.
04:54But by and large, you are a net negative as far as fans are concerned.
04:57And I was thinking about the 49er comp,
05:00and it might be Colton McKivitts where everyone thinks that Colton McKivitts
05:05is this turnstile.
05:06And we talked yesterday to John Feliciano,
05:09and if you look at McKivitts as he grades out at PFF
05:12and as he's considered around the league,
05:15he's a good right tackle.
05:17He's not elite.
05:18He's not Trent Williams.
05:19But to me, he's a guy that fans think about worse than the team actually does,
05:23and that's kind of where I'm looking at this, Mark,
05:25because the Warriors look at pods in a way far and above what the fans think about him.
05:31Although, I guess, isn't the comp on the 49ers, it's way too big,
05:35I guess, for a perfect comp, but the comp is pretty.
05:38It's pretty.
05:39It is, but like Kyle loves him.
05:41They paid him $53 million, and the world's looking at him like,
05:43that little guy, the little six-foot guy who can't see over the line,
05:49you gave him $53 million?
05:51I guess that's a fair one because if you look at pods last year,
05:54I think in totality of the year,
05:57and plus-minus for me is only useful when you look at an entire year.
06:00I agree.
06:01And he was plus 265 or plus 270.
06:03He was among the best plus-minus people in the association,
06:07and I just looked this up as far as the Warriors lineups.
06:12Last year, in the three-man combos, which Steve Kerr loves,
06:15three of the top seven lineups last year involved pods,
06:19and this year, three of the top seven lineups involve pods.
06:23Interesting.
06:23So when you look at combos and how the team plays with three of the five guys on the floor,
06:29Brandon Pajemski is a part of at least half of them year over year.
06:33I'm so glad you said what you just said about plus-minus.
06:36Don't do it on a night-to-night basis.
06:38Have you looked?
06:38Do you already know?
06:39Three Warriors last night were in the plus.
06:42Yeah.
06:42Do you know where they were?
06:43Yeah.
06:43I looked at it.
06:44I was going to say, I'd give you $1,000 if you could pick.
06:47Just those of you who watched the game,
06:49who are the three names that would come to mind they were in the plus last night?
06:53Pat Spencer.
06:54Nope.
06:55Seth Curry.
06:56Nope.
06:56And probably Draymond Green.
07:00Nope.
07:00Actually, he was the worst.
07:02He had the worst plus-minus of the whole team.
07:04Right.
07:04I mean, you would think Pat Spencer because, boy, Pat cooked.
07:08And as I woke up this morning, I listened to the roast,
07:10and I listened to Steini and Goo.
07:12I had to go back and look because, in my mind, Pat was amazing.
07:16But for everything that Pat did great,
07:18it felt like Oklahoma City came down and scored on the other end.
07:22Yep.
07:22And they actually did.
07:24Kind of.
07:24There you go.
07:26Oh, hi, Pat.
07:27925 texted in and said, Will Richard.
07:29Nope.
07:30I just keep saying no.
07:32That's why I'd offer $1,000.
07:33What's up, Bay Area?
07:34It's Will Richard.
07:34Nope.
07:35Not you.
07:36The people who were in the plus.
07:38Bay Area.
07:38This is Quentin Post.
07:39Yep.
07:40Hey, Dibs.
07:40I like your stat reading.
07:42Dog Nation.
07:43It's Quentin Post.
07:44The people who got positive plus-minus last night also got pulled and yelled at on the
07:52bench.
07:52Bay Area is Jonathan Kuminga.
07:54Hello, Jonathan.
07:55Yep.
07:55You were one of them.
07:57Quentin Post, you were another one.
07:58And lastly, the pride of Arkansas.
08:01Bay Area is Moses Moody.
08:03There he is.
08:04Hey, Moses.
08:05Get over here and sit down.
08:08Yeah, he was in the plus.
08:09Yep.
08:10So don't do it on a night-to-night basis because it tells you nothing.
08:13The one thing about plus-minus that I have kind of hung my hat on is plus-minus relative
08:18to what the team did.
08:20I think that has power.
08:22For example, if you lose by 12 and you are better than a minus 12, then you were a net
08:28positive on that night.
08:29So, like, Pat Spencer was a minus 5.
08:32The team was a minus 12.
08:33So, for me, you were slightly better than what the overall team was.
08:37I don't even do that.
08:38Like, by that definition, there were only two bad Warriors all night.
08:42And they were Draymond and Jimmy.
08:44Right.
08:46That's it.
08:47It's interesting you say that because Jimmy went to the locker room and didn't come back.
08:51Right.
08:52And Draymond got his fifth foul early in the third quarter, and he sat.
08:56And while he sat and Jimmy was in the locker room and Steph was in the suite, that's when
09:00the Warriors went on the run.
09:01Yeah.
09:02But, I mean, Draymond was 5 of 11.
09:03He hit three three-pointers, 13 points, nine boards, four assists.
09:07He did have a few turnovers, as he always does.
09:09He had a block.
09:11You know, but, yeah, he was the worst on the whole team.
09:15So, I just don't think there's a lot of accuracies when you do it on a night-to-night basis.
09:20Agreed.
09:20Which is why I do think about pods, and you look at last year, and the whole year, he
09:26was one of the most positive players in the association.
09:29And even, you know, this year so far, he has been not as good as last year, but he's still
09:34a plus seven overall on the year.
09:36So, you know, this year, he's still a plus seven overall on the other hand-to-night basis.
