00:00Let me tell you something, this guy is a ball player.
00:03I wish I was as good as Pods.
00:05Bay Area, it's Brandon Pajemski.
00:07You're listening to Willard and Dibs on 95.7 The Game.
00:12Yeah, you are.
00:13Yep.
00:13Yeah, you are.
00:14You are.
00:15Can I just take 10 seconds on Pods?
00:18Please, please.
00:18And I tweeted this last night.
00:20Steve Kerr won Pods Haters nil.
00:24Well, scoreboard Pods Haters because your boy was, he was that guy.
00:31He actually can be that guy.
00:33He cannot be that guy.
00:35And I told you all, if you're a Price Picks underdog person, bet the rebound over.
00:41The rebound over.
00:41Seriously.
00:42Yeah.
00:43It's as automatic as like the metering lights being on at the Bay Bridge.
00:47So, same when they're like, couldn't Giuse Santos score double digits?
00:51Yes.
00:52Yes, he can.
00:53But he had 14?
00:5414.
00:55And the line was?
00:5612 and a half.
00:58Caboom.
00:59At-a-tac-o-t-do.
01:01For three.
01:03At-a-tac-o-moo.
01:04At-a-tac-o-moo.
01:06I was trying to do it all day yesterday.
01:08I knew I was doing it wrong.
01:09At-a-tac-o-moo.
01:10For three.
01:11You got a couple of drinks.
01:12I had the, for three.
01:13I was practicing on BART.
01:15Well, look.
01:16We all tell on ourselves.
01:18At-a-tac-o-moo.
01:20For three.
01:21There's some dude, I don't even know who it is, and I hate promoting it
01:24because, like, Twitter's become just this most awful place.
01:28But somebody, like, I was in a sarcastic mood last night,
01:32so I waited.
01:33I gave it about an hour after the game,
01:34and then I think I tweeted something along the lines.
01:37I didn't use a name.
01:38I just said, hey, is 26 points, nine rebounds,
01:42and one turnover on the road against a top team good?
01:47Because I don't know ball, so someone help me out.
01:50Right.
01:51And then I hit send, and I went off.
01:53You don't know what the F you're talking about, apparently.
01:57Someone responded and goes, dude, he only had one assist.
02:00That's awful for a point guard.
02:02Yeah, good point.
02:02And I'm like, so do you see what we do?
02:05Do you see what we do?
02:06You're out there fishing for something bad.
02:09I'll give you another one, and this is from not me.
02:15And I'm not doing it to deflect.
02:17This was from not me.
02:18But someone asked me this question.
02:20You know, Kristaps Porzingis, how many games has he played since the trade?
02:26Uno.
02:27One, which is considered awful.
02:30And it has Warrior fans being like, man, you bought damaged goods.
02:35How many has Jonathan Kaminga played?
02:38Three.
02:40Three.
02:41Three ridiculous.
02:43Three.
02:44Three.
02:45Which.
02:45The ha-ha.
02:47And he's dunking on people.
02:49Kristaps hit a couple threes.
02:51Cute.
02:52Great.
02:53I'm just.
02:54It's just.
02:56Ah.
02:57Like, it's sitting there.
02:58Like, I.
02:59I'm just saying.
03:02And we all do this.
03:06So.
03:07Just tell on yourself.
03:08We all do it.
03:09I'll tell.
03:09I'll tell on myself.
03:11Like, when you see something, you love to accuse me of doing this with Purdy all the time.
03:16Oh, here we go.
03:16Oh.
03:17Throws a pick, and I'll be like, did you see that wind?
03:20Or, like, did you.
03:21Somebody.
03:22He was under pressure, and he tipped the ball.
03:24His baby woke up at two the other night, and he was the one who went in there and changed
03:28her diaper.
03:29You're all going to find stuff.
03:30You'll find stuff.
03:32You go find stuff to confirm what you already think when the exact opposite, which is as true as a
03:42heart attack, whacks you in the face.
03:47So, pods is not consistent yet.
03:50You know how many blocks he had?
03:52None.
03:53How many steals, Mark?
03:55Probably none.
03:56Exactly.
03:57So, like, defensively?
03:59He's a net negative.
04:00I don't really want to do pods versus Jonathan Kaminga, because, like, my point all along has been, like, these
04:07guys have nothing to do with one another.
04:09Pods does not live in blockistan.
04:11No.
04:11No blocks.
04:14There's no way you could watch last night's game and come out with something negative to say.
04:19You can't do that.
04:21You could look at his eight missed shots and be like, I mean, he was 10 for 18.
04:2510 for 18.
04:27Four for eight from three.
04:28He was efficient.
04:29He was good.
04:30He was their leading scorer.
04:32He was big down the stretch.
04:33He was this, that, the other.
04:35And if you're actually a Warrior fan, flip and applaud.
04:39And if you're not, then just say that.
04:42Just say, I'm here for the Twitter so that all I can do is get flipping angry at all kinds
04:48of stuff whenever I see it.
04:50Or even if I don't see it, then I'm going to make it up so that you think you saw
04:53it.
04:53But just say that.
04:55But if you're a Warrior fan, how can you not like last night on so many fronts?
05:01Right.
05:02I mean, the worst player was probably Pat Spencer.
05:05And Pat Spencer played, you know, 16 minutes.
05:08And if you're talking about Pat Spencer and you're relying on Pat Spencer, then where are we?
05:14And you could look at the starting five and you could say, well, of the starting five, Pods was the
05:19fifth best and plus minus.
05:20So he kind of got carried by the rest of them.
05:23I mean, I'm reaching and I'm nitpicking.
05:25It's Friday.
05:26I'm joking around.
05:27No, I love it.
05:28No, I love it.
05:29I love it.
05:30When Jonathan Kaminga scores 21, he scored 21.
05:34Pods scores 26.
05:36He had one assist.
05:37No blocks.
05:39No steals.
05:40All right.
05:40And Kaminga cooked against Minnesota last year in the playoffs and they lost all four.
05:44So I'm just saying, and this is where it's confirmation bias.
05:49And I'm not somebody who's down on Kaminga and I'm more up on pods than most people.
05:56And I thought last night, it's funny because we all were out to dinner and a couple of times I
06:00looked up because we were all engaged in deep conversation.
06:02And the three or four times I looked up and actually watched, he did bad things.
06:07And then, I mean, he did that like Euro slow step.
06:15Well, I've arrived at Trollville.
06:18I don't even know how else to process and handle this anymore.
06:21So I'm in the middle of Sam's.
06:23And for me, two drinks in is when I start loosening up.
06:26Yep.
06:26You know, and we get to the fourth quarter of a close game.
06:29You and Stiney leave.
06:30I started yelling, let pods cook on every possession in the middle of a bar.
06:35Nice.
06:36And it was just to make guru laugh.
06:38Like, I don't even know, but pods doesn't cook.
06:41That's not his game.
06:42But I'm yelling it in the middle of a bar because I'm just like, this is fun.
06:45He doesn't even toast.
06:46No.
06:47He makes salads.
06:48He does like charcuterie.
06:49He doesn't cook.
06:50I love charcuterie.
06:52I love charcuterie.
06:54I'm a big charcuterie guy.
06:56It depends on what you put out.
06:57I'm sure you put out a nice one, but.
06:59Yeah.
07:01Or order one, whatever.
07:03Yeah.
07:03I like all those meats.
07:05Most of the cheeses.
07:06You can keep your hard cheeses, but I like most of the cheeses.
07:08I'm a big olive guy.
07:10If you got jams in there, hey, let's go.
07:13Yep.
07:13Um, my daughter actually messed it up.
07:16Cucumber, red bell pepper.
07:17Whatever.
07:17Yeah.
07:18Yeah.
07:18Give me some hummus on that thing.
07:20Like, whatever you want to do.
07:22We're doing it.
07:23We're doing the charcuterie.
07:24Yep.
07:24All right.
07:25That's pods.
07:25He doesn't really cook, but he puts out a nice charcuterie, 26 points, 26 and nine.
07:31I'm going to try that after my second drink next time the Warriors play.
07:35Let pod charcuterie.
07:36That's pretty good.
07:37And see what happens.
07:39People will be like, cut him off.
07:41Cut him off.
07:42They're like fentanyl.
07:43Totally.
07:43Dude, it's over.
07:44Fentanyl alert.
07:45All right.
07:46Kevin in Pleasanton.
07:48Hi, Kevin.
07:48Bryce Eldridge, 20 minutes.
07:50Hi, Kevin.
07:50Thanks for calling us.
07:51What's up?
07:53Gentlemen, can you hear me?
07:54We got you, Kevin.
07:57Oh, good.
07:58I'm just trying to do noise cancellation yet, Paul.
08:00Anyway, guys, so, Willard, I got in my car and I heard you say you couldn't believe
08:08a podcast or something about a statement that Joe Lacobin made.
08:14So, here's the thing, man.
08:17And, again, I said my mom played pro ball.
08:19My son's a Division I coach.
08:21And then my other son trades a lot of high-profile athletes.
08:25So, I'm not saying this as an apologist or whatever how it works, but Steve couldn't
08:32give a rat, you know what, about what Lacobin said.
08:34Oh.
08:35And the reason why is, the reason why is because Steve is a diva.
08:40I've said this.
08:40I've come in and said this before.
08:42Steve runs at his own beat.
08:44And that's obvious based on how he's played out, you know, his whole tenure there.
08:51So, what we as fans or observers of the league and what's going on, what goes on internally,
08:58it's like a whole other world.
09:01Sure.
09:01So, yeah, so that's why.
09:04So, that's, I just wanted to call and say that's kind of why.
09:08Right, but Kevin, can I challenge you on the premise, and it's based on this.
09:14I always, my ears go up when I hear someone say, I can promise you that this is a fact,
09:20and then they say why, and they follow with an opinion.
09:24You're like, I can promise you that Steve didn't care about that, and the reason is,
09:29Steve's a diva.
09:30That's a fact.
09:31That's an opinion.
09:32That's an opinion, and I would argue likely an unfair one, unless you know Steve.
09:38I get that maybe you know ball.
09:41Sounds like you're related to some people who can play, but unless you know Steve,
09:48I don't know how you could have that opinion, and if you do,
09:51I would think you probably have it about a lot of the people in pro sports.
09:55These are all, there's huge egos everywhere, Kevin.
10:00Yeah, so I'll change the word from diva, and I'll say he is an elite Hall of Fame winner.
10:07Okay.
10:08So what happens is that that is just kind of TV stuff or media stuff,
10:15but in the locker room, so to speak, that narrative isn't really pushed because Steve still is running the show.
10:23Yeah, and you might be right.
10:26You might be right on that, Kevin, although were you listening earlier this week when he said he left social
10:32media along with James Wiseman
10:34because he wanted to help James out because there was so much negativity there,
10:38and he thought he would come back in a month, and he never did because he felt the mental health
10:43of not reading all the crap
10:44that people say about him was really helpful to him.
10:47That doesn't sound like somebody who's just above all the criticism, you know?
10:53Well, no, no, no.
10:54What you said was in 2022.
10:56You're talking about a 2022 comment that was made.
10:59So all I'm saying is is that coaches aren't really tripping off of what the owners say in a casual
11:09way.
11:10Unless.
11:12Okay, you're breaking up a little bit, Kevin.
11:15All I can say to that, you might be right.
11:17I don't know.
11:19That feels a little broad brush to me.
11:21All coaches, this is how they react to all owners.
11:24I don't know.
11:26I get that what Kevin is saying is Steve was at the top of his game.
11:30He had just won a championship.
11:32Therefore, he doesn't care what the hell.
11:33You can't tell him nothing.
11:35Maybe.
11:36Maybe.
11:37But Joe Lacob is a big deal and his boss.
11:41And I think that from what we've heard, there are a lot of impassioned conversations behind closed doors
11:49that involve Joe and Bob and Mike and Steve and everybody else involved in all of this.
11:55And think about all these coaches where, like, if you do well,
11:59and I'm thinking about Phil Jackson right now in Chicago,
12:01the reason why he left is because the owner and he were not getting along anymore.
12:06And it got to a point where he was either tired of the meddling or he didn't agree with the
12:11decision-making.
12:13And so they wanted to let him go before the last dance, but they all agreed, all right, one more
12:17year.
12:17And he even came out.
12:19Jerry Krause, I believe, the owner, came out and said, it's going to be his last year.
12:23Yeah, I think Krause is the GM.
12:25Then it's Ryan Storff.
12:25Yeah, yeah, exactly.
12:26It's two Jerrys.
12:27I can't remember who's who.
12:28But he came out before the year and basically said, well, this is going to be his last year.
12:32And it's like, oh, okay.
12:34And you're Phil and you're like, yeah, it's going to be my last year.
12:36But, yeah, you have that.
12:38And so headstrong people.
12:39And that's a guy who had won five and seven, five titles in seven years.
12:44And there's been so much clashing that it had to end.
12:47I can tell you we've watched a lot of dynastic things in sports that end up in a spot where
12:53people,
12:54whether they're actually fighting about this or they're just bothered by it,
12:58it comes down to who gets the credit.
13:00Did Brady and Belichick not have trouble with that to a certain degree,
13:05at least in the minds of Kraft, their owner?
13:09Like, is there a credit problem here?
13:12Like, I was covering the USC Trojans when Pete Carroll was there,
13:17and I firmly believe that the reason Norm Chow had to leave as offensive coordinator,
13:25Pete did not like how much credit Norm was getting for everything.
13:28Norm Chow.
13:29Norm Chow.
13:30Yep.
13:31Norm Chow.
13:32Like, he was getting a ton of credit for what was happening offensively because they had
13:38unbelievable players and an unbelievable scheme and it was working and everything.
13:42And then, like, you know, then he wants a raise and he wants this, that, and they go
13:47to Pete and they're like, should we give him a raise?
13:49And Pete's not like, Norm's not what's working here.
13:51I'm working here.
13:52That's what's at the core of all of it.
13:54Who's getting the credit?
13:55It's actually kind of a testament to the Warriors that I don't think it's really ever fully kind
14:01of gone that way.
14:03In fact, I think collectively they've all settled with whenever the credit question comes up.
14:07Right.
14:07Just say Steph.
14:09Steph.
14:09It's Steph.
14:10Yeah.
14:10And it's interesting that he talked about marching to the beat of your own drum.
14:14And the only reason why Steve Kerr has this job is because Mark Jackson was marching to
14:19the beat of his own drum.
14:20And that drum was his church down in L.A.
14:23And so he would leave on the weekends to go down there and, you know, hold mass and either
14:28cancel practice or move practice just so he could go down there and do what he wanted to
14:34do.
14:34And, you know, his comments about, you know, openly gay people.
14:37And at the time, Rick Welch was a CFO who is, you know, one of the first gay executives
14:41in the league.
14:42And so all those things that Mark Jackson was doing ran counter to what the organization
14:47wanted.
14:47And so that's why in large part they let him go because he had actually built this
14:52thing from not nothing, but he built it up to where they're a playoff team and they were
14:56on a certain trajectory.
14:58But because he was doing his own thing, they had to let him go.
15:03Mama, there went that man.
15:04Yep.
15:05Austin in San Jose.
15:06Hi, Austin.
15:07Thank you for calling.
15:09Hey, Willard.
15:10I'm going to fall in the middle today, man, a little bit.
15:12We're not going to agree, but we're not going to totally disagree.
15:14How about that?
15:15I'm so excited.
15:17Hey, every time I hear you today, guys say, Kerr, I always hear this thing that you guys
15:22used to play.
15:23I do.
15:23I do.
15:24I feel like you guys should play that more often with.
15:27I do.
15:28I do.
15:28But there you go.
15:30There you go.
15:31I love that.
15:31Hey, my guy Dunleavy.
15:34And I got to say, it was a pretty balanced, good question, Will, when you asked him, I
15:39think, about the one you kind of stumped him on when I asked him about Kaminga, and he
15:44paused.
15:45And I think that was a good pause, because for the first time, he didn't feel like he
15:49had to be defensive.
15:50So he kind of didn't say anything much, which was probably good.
15:52But maybe he learned from his previous press conferences that it maybe should pull back
15:57on being defensive about it and just admit, yeah, we both made mistakes.
16:02So I was glad to see that maybe he's matured a little bit in terms of his response to the
16:07media.
16:07I don't know what you think about that, but that's the kind of way I read it.
16:10And then also, the thing I keep hearing Dunleavy say, you know, he keeps reflecting on the
16:16past, 2019, 2022.
16:19I don't think he understands it.
16:21That's great.
16:21But, you know, we don't pay for that.
16:24We pay for what we see now.
16:26And the Warriors don't necessarily control.
16:29It's nice that the Warriors, once upon a time, were the big fish and everybody kind of came
16:34back for them.
16:34But now they're chasing other teams, other organizations that may be actually better
16:40on the court.
16:41So I worry sometimes that maybe he's thinking too much about the past and not focusing enough
16:47about the future.
16:48And I think you said earlier, they were wondering about why people are mad.
16:52I think people are mad because there's not enough of a vision.
16:55We keep hearing about the past, what they did, which was great, by the way.
17:00But we need to hear more about the vision and the plan for the future and understanding,
17:04hey, you guys got to go play catch up.
17:06Some of these young boys from OKC and Detroit, you guys are real.
17:10Man, I don't see the Warriors roster long term over the next two or three years competing
17:15very well with that, Will.
17:16And that's all I got, man.
17:17Yeah.
17:18All right.
17:18Thanks, Austin.
17:19Yeah, I appreciate it.
17:20Here's what I'd say about this.
17:21This is a perfect sort of like, this is a perfect call for kind of a lot of what we've
17:26been sitting
17:27here talking about, I think.
17:30I think the first thing I would ask Austin and any of you who sort of like come from
17:35that thought process of like, stop talking about the past.
17:39What about right now?
17:40You've been passed by a lot of organizations.
17:43I bet the Warriors would say to you, did you think we were going to win all the years?
17:48Right.
17:49And when you say you want to hear about the vision for the future, I'm not telling you
17:54you have to agree with their vision.
17:57But I can promise you that the Warriors, they think that they've got a vision for the future.
18:02But I bet their response right now is that the future is not here yet.
18:07And while many fans, and I really do get this, you're ready for what's next.
18:14And they're not because Steph's still playing.
18:17They've got double vision and shout out Foreigner because if they can give up a lot of picks for
18:23a guy who can really help them now, they'll do it.
18:25But the other vision is we like our picks and we want to keep our picks.
18:29And when Steph is gone and Jimmy and Draymond, the rest, then if we have our picks, then our
18:34vision is down the road.
18:35So they have their eyes on two different prizes because if you can pick any player right
18:40now in the association that you would want and you could get them with picks and a player
18:46and whatnot, they would go for it to help Steph and, you know, give it one last go around.
18:51But at the same time, if they can't, then they're going to go ahead and like nickel dime and add
18:56and keep the picks and keep their eye toward the future.
18:59Just for fun, who would that be?
19:01Right now, any player.
19:02Any player in the NBA, you could have them for like you join the Warriors tomorrow.
19:06Probably Wenbin Yama.
19:08Like it's a great answer.
19:09You know, it's a great answer.
19:10Probably Vic.
19:11I thought about Anthony Edwards, but you already have like Steph and you really need a wing
19:16and Wenbin Yama is not that, but he is like an unbelievable force.
19:21So if you get Wendy out of San Antonio, you give up four picks and two swaps and you bring
19:28in Wenbin Yama and you give up whatever you give up, which would not be a ton.
19:33He's not making max money yet.
19:36So that'd be the guy.
19:37Luke has just whispered in my ear and almost in a way of like, you all are dumb for not
19:41saying this, but it's Nikola Jokic.
19:43Like, man, I mean, another fair answer.
19:46I don't think women, I can tell you where my mind went and it wasn't to Jokic or Wenbin
19:51Yama.
19:53My mind went to Cade.
19:54Brock Purdy.
19:55Sorry.
19:56I had to.
19:57I went to Cade Cunningham.
19:58Yeah.
19:59Yeah.
20:00I went to Cade Cunningham because I think that that's, you know, like you just said, they
20:06need a wing.
20:07Like if I was going to put anybody in the NBA right now on this team, I think that's who
20:16Cade Cunningham.
20:16Jokic would be awesome.
20:17And you give him the ball and he does that whole like slow motion head bob thing.
20:22They even had him on a prize picks last night.
20:24So I watched the entire fourth quarter against the Lakers.
20:26How in God's name does he get 34, 18 and 12?
20:32But it's not a fun watch.
20:34Like he doesn't look like he wants to be playing.
20:37Nikola Jokic with every move he has, every time it just speaks to me.
20:43All right, fine.
20:46Like, hey, go score.
20:47All right, fine.
20:49All right, now go to the other end of the court.
20:51Okay, if I have to.
20:53It's like watching a sophomore go to first period in like early November.
21:00God, this is so stupid.
21:02I hate the school.
21:04I hate everything.
21:05I can't even drive yet.
21:06I got to go to geometry.
21:08Oh, I ace that test.
21:10Ace that test.
21:11It looks like a teenager that got woken up at 8.
21:13Right.
21:14I mean, a teenager, I'm awesome at everything, but I'm not happy.
21:19Yeah, 35, 19, 14, whatever.
21:23Anyway, Bryce Eldridge is going to join us in like five or six minutes.
21:28I realize we've sort of arrived at what sometimes can feel like a catch-all,
21:33but it is my answer to so many things.
21:35You know, why?
21:37You just went and got old.
21:38Right, Steph Curry.
21:40We got to look to the future.
21:42Steph Curry.
21:44But Steph Curry.
21:47Like, that's my opinion.
21:48You have to wait until he's not here anymore.
21:51And then you can do all of the stuff that you all want to do.
21:54But you have to wait for him to not be here.
21:57Why can't we get young now?
21:59Because he doesn't want that.
22:01Right.
22:01That's not what's best for him.
22:04It just feels like two opinions that a lot of people share, but they fight with each other.
22:09You want Steph to finish his career here.
22:11You want everything to be for Steph.
22:13But then you also want 22-year-olds running around with ha-ha.
22:17Yeah.
22:18I don't know.
22:19It's double vision.
22:21I mean, if you have the picks and you want to bring in somebody who's really good,
22:24they're going to be old, and that'll help Steph.
22:26But your future is totally shot.
22:28Or you just stand pat and hope that Chris Stapps gets over general illness.
22:33Call the general because he's got an illness.
