00:00Let's go live to Dallas, Odyssey Station, 105.3 The Fan.
00:04Joining us right now, River Island's guest line.
00:06Thank you so much, Short Notice, for doing it.
00:09It's R.J. Choppy, who is on in the mornings on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.
00:14R.J., thanks for hopping on.
00:16How you doing, man?
00:18I'm doing well.
00:20I'm on my way to baseball practice.
00:21I have a feeling that all the dads are going to have questions.
00:26Yeah.
00:26That's the way it's going, right?
00:27Yeah, we're dads and we have questions.
00:29Exactly.
00:30What's your answer?
00:31Because you know what the question is.
00:33Hey, R.J., what the hell are the Cowboys doing?
00:37Man, I was trying to fix something in the house when I get up and I see 74 unread text messages.
00:44Oh, my God.
00:45And I was like, oh, no.
00:47What happened here?
00:48I figured there was a group chat blowing up.
00:50But, man, I'm a little surprised.
00:54Not because, like, this isn't a move that 31 other teams wouldn't make.
01:01I'm surprised that this team does because Jerry is very much in a win now.
01:06He's always said, I ain't got time for a bad time.
01:09That's his line, right?
01:10I ain't got time for a bad time.
01:12He's getting older.
01:13Never thought he would effectively punt on a season at this age.
01:18But I was stunned for that very reason.
01:23I never thought he would go down this road and go through with this.
01:26He's always eventually paid.
01:29But something got something here, whether it was the quote-unquote handshake agreement
01:35and Jerry felt very slighted, or whether it was Micah just not kind of refusing to talk
01:44or David Mulligetta, the agent, refusing to talk.
01:46I don't know what it was.
01:48Something went astray here.
01:51And do you think that it is as simple as, you know, the handshake agreement
01:55where Jerry allegedly went behind the agent's back and then he found out
01:59and then Micah rallied up with the agent?
02:01How long has this situation been this badly broken?
02:05Well, I do think it's very possible that that was the issue, that, you know,
02:13the agent and Micah just were like, we're not doing this.
02:16And remember, Micah, back on what was it, August 1st, said he requested a trade.
02:23And, you know, I never thought the Cowboys would go through with it
02:26and actually trade him.
02:27But, yeah, something happened.
02:28Something went sideways to this.
02:30And I don't know if Micah's camp just never got over the fact that Jerry
02:35refused to start negotiations again.
02:40Jerry had said, you know, that the offer they made was a great offer.
02:46It was over $40 million per year.
02:49And, you know, he made that offer to them back when it was just to him and Micah.
02:53And when that handshake agreement got kind of, you know, stepped back on,
02:59you know, I don't think Jerry ever offered it again.
03:01I think that was a problem.
03:03R.J. Choppy is with us, 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.
03:07After the big news, Micah Parsons traded to the Cowboys.
03:11I'm sorry, traded to the Packers.
03:12Cowboys get two first-rounders.
03:15And Kenny Clark, the nose tackle, from the Packers on the way.
03:20R.J., do you happen to be listening to your station right now or when this went down?
03:24Did you tune into The Fan?
03:25No, I just finished getting ready for the next day's show.
03:34And I had started on my Honeydew list before I leave for baseball.
03:39Baseball Friday.
03:40I was trying to put together a vacuum cleaner.
03:41I was not listening to anything.
03:43I got like, my phone just kept dinging.
03:45And my wife was like, dude, your phone's blowing up.
03:47All right, so can we play for you what was said right as it happened?
03:52This is clearly your co-worker.
03:53We'd love to get your reaction.
03:55I would have tried to push this thing for more.
03:58But the Cowboys clearly were saying, screw this.
03:59We want to get rid of this guy.
04:01This isn't going to work for us.
04:03I am just blown away and stunned that they actually did this.
04:07I did not think we would live in a world where Jerry and Steven would move a player of the status of a Micah Parsons.
04:15And I would like to applaud them for doing so.
04:17Yes, I'll join you an applause.
04:17Because I think, big picture, this is great for the organization.
04:20Okay, we got multiple hosts on your station applauding this, RJ.
04:25Look, team building-wise, it's absolutely the right thing to do, right?
04:32You move on from, you can't have a $60 million quarterback, a $35 million receiver, and a $45 million edge rusher.
04:42You just can't do it.
04:43That's $130 million on three guys.
04:46Dak is not good enough to be able to put that kind of emphasis on a top-heavy roster.
04:55If this was the Chiefs, you can get away with it, right?
04:57If this is the Bills, but not this team.
05:00So, strictly team building, I've got no qualms with this.
05:04I'm just stunned they did it.
05:06I didn't think they would do it.
05:06It's an interesting statement, and I think it begs two questions.
05:11First of all, one of them is, if that's how you feel, that the other two guys that you paid are sort of like,
05:19if they're going to have that, then you can't keep this guy.
05:22I'd ask you, then should they have paid those guys?
05:25Should they have $60 million a year wrapped up in Dak?
05:29Look, I don't think they should.
05:36I didn't have a problem when they did it, because they still had a good roster.
05:42But now that the roster is, it's obvious you don't have Micah anymore,
05:46and Micah was kind of a cheat code on defense.
05:49Their defensive EPA is number one in the league when he's on the field,
05:52and it's last in the league when he's off it.
05:55So, that's what I'm saying.
05:56If you're not going to have Micah Parsons, there's no point in having Dak Prescott.
06:02You're not going to win.
06:03There's no point in spending six.
06:05You might as well just punt, let Joe Milton quarterback, get a top-five pick, and start over.
06:10That team-building-wise, that's probably what they should do.
06:12They're not going to do that.
06:15They're dug in, and you can't really get rid of Dak anyway because of the contract.
06:20But, I mean, it just put them in a bind.
06:23It really did.
06:24Like, having to pay three guys $130 million is not sustainable.
06:29I've got to be honest with you, RJ.
06:31I think the world right now, especially if you look on social media, they're expecting Dallas,
06:36and you guys are just a handful of representatives,
06:39but they're expecting Dallas to be much more angry about this than you all sound.
06:44You'd be stunned at the text I have.
06:47Like, they're all like, good riddance, let's move on.
06:49Now, I'm not a good riddance guy.
06:51I think Mike is tremendous.
06:53I think he is easily one of the five best non-quarterbacks in the league to me.
07:02But, yeah, from, like, the money that you were going to have to spend that it was going to take,
07:07because they dragged their feet, and that's their own fault, right?
07:10That's also their own fault, but because they dragged their feet.
07:11I thought for sure that it was going to be a problem to have $45 million there,
07:17$35 million with C.D. Lamb, and then $60 million with Dak.
07:21Fascinating.
07:22Hey, RJ, good luck at baseball.
07:27Okay.
07:27Nice and warm.
07:28Only 109 degrees, according to my car.
07:30Oh, that's all?
07:31Yeah.
07:31Okay.
07:32It's a nice buck nine, yeah.
07:33We're in the Metroplex.
07:34We're shorts.
07:35All right.
07:35RJ, thanks, man.
07:37Appreciate you jumping on.
07:38Yeah.
07:38No problem.
07:39Okay, RJ Choppy, 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.
07:43Definitely.
