00:00Now, back to Willard and Dibbs.
00:03What was on the menu?
00:04Seven steaks?
00:05Two whole chickens?
00:06Well, I went and got a giant Wagyu steak for him.
00:11So I'm ecstatic about that.
00:13On 95-7, the game.
00:15All right, so a lot to do here.
00:17You hear right there, that's us talking to Cheryl Bosa about the menu.
00:20Yep.
00:21And we need to talk about the menu.
00:23That goes for food and football, by the way,
00:25because it's a whole new menu for her this year, too.
00:28She's heading to Buffalo this weekend.
00:30That's right.
00:30Sunday night football.
00:32Her other son is on a new team this year.
00:35Yeah, yeah, he is.
00:37Why do you say it like that?
00:37Because it'd be kind of fun if she could just focus on the Niners
00:41if he had Bosa to the right of me and Bosa to the left of me.
00:44But we don't have that.
00:45It was rumored.
00:46I don't know how real it was.
00:47We should probably find out.
00:48We'll tell you also about the Red and Gold Summit that's coming up on Thursday.
00:52More on that in a second.
00:53But right now, out to the River Island's guest line here on Willard and Dibbs
00:56to welcome in Mama Bosa.
00:58Cheryl Bosa is with us here on the show.
01:01Hi, Cheryl.
01:01How you been?
01:03I'm good, you guys.
01:04How are you?
01:05We're doing great.
01:06Like, why don't we just jump right to it?
01:08Like, was that a thing at one point this offseason,
01:11the idea of Joey joining Nick with the 49ers?
01:15I mean, there was a little talk about it.
01:17There was some chatter going on.
01:18How about from you?
01:21Did you try to, like, sway that in a certain direction?
01:25I mean, I would, obviously, you know, that would be a dream come true for me.
01:30But, yeah, I mean, yeah, honestly, I didn't know what direction Joey was going to go in.
01:37He got, he was, there was a few different options,
01:41and it's so funny that he ended up in Buffalo because it was definitely not one of the options.
01:47We were talking, you know, either Sam Fran, the Dolphins, so he could be home, or retirement.
01:55So those were the three, those were the three options we were talking about.
01:59Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
02:00Retirement?
02:02He was talking, thinking about retiring, yeah.
02:04Yeah, and so, yeah, when all of a sudden his agent called and was like, you know,
02:10Buffalo's calling and, you know, this and that.
02:15And my nephew used to play for Buffalo, so, you know, I was over at Joey's house
02:20when this was all happening, and Joey called his cousin Jake to talk to him about Buffalo,
02:28and Jake was like, you know, it's great.
02:31I loved it there, you know.
02:33So, Joey just thought about it, and he was like, all right, let's do this.
02:39Let's do Buffalo.
02:40I mean, it makes your, your travel schedule is going to be a little crazy going from Buffalo to Santa Clara,
02:45but I want to ask first about the summer.
02:47How much time did you have with both the boys home and, you know, both kind of bound around your house?
02:53I know.
02:54Well, this summer wasn't the greatest as far as, like, spending time with the boys
02:59because they both went to OTAs this year, which is literally the first time since they've been in the NFL.
03:06They've always, you know, trained down here privately, so they've always been here from, you know,
03:14the end of season until minicamp.
03:17And so, this year, with, you know, obviously Joey was the new guy on Buffalo, so he had to go to OTAs.
03:25And Nick, being the vet, you know, they, he needs to be in San Fran now for that.
03:31So, yeah, I saw a lot less of them this summer than I normally do.
03:37Yeah, Cheryl Bosa with us on Weather and Dips.
03:40It's funny that you say that.
03:42Like, usually at least someone is not at OTAs.
03:45I'll ask it this way, Cheryl, because Joey had to find a new home this offseason.
03:51When's the last time that you guys didn't deal with something,
03:56some sort of contract, negotiation, or drama in the offseason?
04:01Um, God, I don't know.
04:05I mean, trying to think.
04:08I mean, it's not, yeah, I mean, I'm thinking of, like, you know,
04:12there's, like, obviously last year with Joey and the free agency and everything.
04:17That was crazy.
04:18That was kind of like the draft all over again.
04:23And him getting his contract a couple years before that,
04:26or the year before that with the Chargers, that was nerve-wracking, too.
04:32But, I mean, yeah, there's always something, isn't there?
04:37Yeah, no doubt.
04:38I mean, it's always something.
04:40So, you look at your two sons' teams and, you know,
04:44Buffalo with their super special quarterback
04:46and their amazing year that they're coming off of,
04:49and, you know, Brock Purdy got his big contract,
04:52and the team looks to be better with a fourth-place schedule.
04:55If you had to pick between the two, and I know you probably won't,
04:58but how do you like your chances of having one of those teams
05:01be in Santa Clara in February for the Super Bowl?
05:05Why don't we just have both of them?
05:07We're in.
05:07Yep.
05:08Yeah.
05:08Sign us up.
05:09I mean, it's doable.
05:11It can happen.
05:13And I'm manifesting it.
05:17I like that.
05:18I like it.
05:19Yeah, and you can wear your split jersey.
05:20I'm sure you'll have one concocted by then.
05:22Well, I'll have to get a new one,
05:25because the last one is a Chargers 49ers,
05:28so I've got to change that up a little bit.
05:30Yeah, that's enough of the Chargers, right, Cheryl?
05:33Yeah, yeah.
05:34By the way, Cheryl, since you brought up the Chargers,
05:38you need to help us out,
05:40because we have this clip of you the last time that you were on,
05:44and I want to know what –
05:46we're trying to remember what the basis behind it was.
05:50Here, Grandy, go ahead and play it.
05:51Not Harbaugh.
05:52Anything but Harbaugh.
05:54Okay.
05:54Was that –
05:56Now, that was before he became the coach of the Chargers,
05:59so was that like a Michigan-Ohio State thing or what?
06:02I'm a Buckeye.
06:03Of course it is.
06:04Okay.
06:05Yes, of course.
06:06Of course.
06:07So then –
06:08And I never thought I would change my mind on that,
06:12but he's amazing.
06:13I love him.
06:14Oh, really?
06:14Yeah.
06:15Really?
06:15Yeah, he's great.
06:17He's great.
06:18Joey loved him.
06:19Oops.
06:20I just dropped my phone.
06:21Joey loved him.
06:23They had a great relationship.
06:25He's a nice guy.
06:26Obviously, he's a phenomenal coach,
06:29so don't let Buckeye Nation hear me saying this,
06:33but I love the guy.
06:35No, we won't.
06:35We'll keep this totally private just between us.
06:38But, no, Cheryl, you know what it is?
06:40It's interesting that you say that because just a couple of weeks ago,
06:44one of the analysts who comes on our shows a lot, Brian Baldinger,
06:47was kind of doing a comparison of Jim Harbaugh and Kyle Shanahan.
06:52Jim had his time here with the Niners, too.
06:54I'm sure you've had an opportunity to at least be around
06:58or hear a lot about them as coaches.
07:00How would you compare the two?
07:02Oh, God.
07:03I mean, I don't think I have enough football knowledge to really judge that.
07:12You know, I just was – I guess all I could say is that, you know,
07:15Joey was with the Chargers for nine years with four different coaches,
07:20and finally they got a coach where it's going to make a difference.
07:25And I think everyone will see that this year with the Chargers.
07:28You know, they're not going to be a joke this year.
07:31And it's going to be fun to see some of the kids that, you know,
07:35Joey's played with playing well, you know.
07:40I mean, I'm not afraid of them for any of us, but, you know,
07:45I think they're definitely in a growth period, which, you know, is good for them.
07:50Yeah, and the kids, I mean, Joey quietly now is 30 years old.
07:54So it's just –
07:55I know.
07:55It's hard to believe that these kids, as you call them, just keep getting older.
08:00I wonder about Nick playing again for Robert Sala, who was his coordinator his rookie year.
08:06How excited is he and how excited are you to have Robert Sala back with your son Nick?
08:12Both of us are beyond, beyond excited.
08:16Amazing coach, amazing person, just, you know, beyond.
08:22And Nick is – couldn't be happier that he's back.
08:26And, you know, I think he's a game changer.
08:29I think he brings the energy that, you know, the team needs.
08:32And, you know, I think it's going to be really –
08:35I think it's going to be a really fun year, you guys.
08:38I think it's going to be fun.
08:39Yeah, how's Nick doing?
08:41Like, how was his offseason?
08:42And we hear him talk a lot about wanting to be more of a leader this year.
08:47Like, how would you give a snapshot of how Nick's been doing the last few months?
08:52He's great.
08:53He's great.
08:53Like I said, I haven't really seen that much of my boys.
08:57And then also with, you know, the first home game being the third week into season,
09:04when he left – when did he leave?
09:07July 21st, I think, was the date he – I drove him to the airport.
09:11And I'm like, oh, my God.
09:13I'm not – like, months.
09:15I don't go months without seeing my kids.
09:18So, yeah, it's really – it's been really strange.
09:21Obviously, we FaceTime and, you know, text daily and all that kind of stuff.
09:26But, yeah, but he's fantastic.
09:30He's excited.
09:32And, yeah, and Sal is a big part of that excitement.
09:36Absolutely.
09:37So, what is the Mama Bosa schedule?
09:39I know when the schedules come out, you look at Joey, you look at Nick,
09:42and you try to figure out how you can keep it fair.
09:45You know, you're a mother and they're both your children.
09:47But what's your schedule looking like and how many air miles are you looking at this year?
09:52Well, just like I did – just like I did before, I always, you know, try to get to their home games.
09:59And, oddly, this year's schedules really are work for me.
10:05So, I mean, I'll have a couple of conflicts where, you know, I'll probably be in San Fran rather than Buffalo
10:14because Joey's there with his fiancée.
10:16So, you know, he's got, you know, somebody that's always there with him.
10:22But, yeah, the schedule is – it aligned pretty nicely for me.
10:27And, obviously, me being in Florida, if I'm just doing, like, a weekend turnaround to Buffalo,
10:33that's a piece of cake.
10:34Like, that's a two-hour flight for me.
10:36So, yeah.
10:38Are you ready for snow games up there, though, Cheryl?
10:42You know, I'm from Chicago originally.
10:44Okay.
10:45So, yeah, I've been there, done that.
10:47But it's been a while.
10:49And, yeah, I mean, I've got the gear.
10:53I've always had the gear.
10:54The kids played at Ohio State.
10:56So, I had the gear then.
10:58And, you know, I know how to do it.
11:02You know, this isn't my first rodeo.
11:03So, all right.
11:05And you said Joey's engaged, huh?
11:06Does his fiancée have the Mama Bosa seal of approval?
11:12I love her.
11:13I love her.
11:15She's amazing.
11:16But let me tell you, talk about the snow.
11:18She's a Florida girl.
11:19And she's putting together these cute little outfits.
11:22And I'm like, oh, no, babe.
11:24That's not going to cut it in Buffalo winter.
11:29Yeah.
11:30I love it.
11:31I love it.
11:31It's an adjustment period.
11:32And, you know, you always forget about the girlfriends and the fiancées when a player signs in free agency.
11:37So, that's part of her growth curve or her learning curve, so to speak, is, you know, to figure out how to navigate Buffalo, right?
11:45Can I tell you, though, they love it.
11:47They are so happy.
11:50It's, you know, it's very different.
11:51They were living in L.A., and now they're living in, like, a suburb, like, with, you know, pine trees everywhere and hills.
12:00And, you know, it's, like, so very Midwest feeling, you know?
12:04It's very, like, small town.
12:07So, yeah.
12:08Cheryl Bosa.
12:09Yeah, go ahead.
12:10No, they're really enjoying it.
12:12Awesome.
12:13It's cool.
12:13Cheryl Bosa is with us here on Withered and Dibs 95.7 The Game.
12:16Okay, Cheryl, I told you that we were going to do this, and I feel like it's both fun but also a little superstitious.
12:23Two years ago, you came on, and you told us about the seven-egg omelet that had the onions and the broccoli in it that you'd been making for Nick.
12:32And so, I took on the challenge of trying to make that and eat it, and I did it.
12:37It was delicious.
12:38And then last year, we did not do this, and instead of going to the Super Bowl, they went 6-11.
12:43So, we have to turn this thing back around.
12:46I know you didn't see him a lot this summer, but what kind of a breakfast item had you been cooking Nick back in July before he left?
12:56Oh, you know, I mean, Nick is a creature of habit.
12:59You know, when he is training, it is, you know, he follows a regimen.
13:05He doesn't stray from it too much.
13:07So, we're going back with what works.
13:09It's the 6-7-egg omelet, for sure.
13:12And always the onions.
13:14It's always onions.
13:16And broccoli?
13:17Or is there ever no deviation?
13:19You can throw black broccoli, you can throw some spinach, but yeah, always the onions.
13:24Does he ever throw another protein in there?
13:27Maybe some sausage or something like that, Cheryl?
13:30Not really, no, because that would be too fatty.
13:34Have you seen the kid?
13:35Yeah, I have.
13:36Now, what do you cook?
13:37What about Joey?
13:39What do you make him?
13:41Well, Joey's got Amanda.
13:42Amanda's an amazing chef.
13:44So, he's got his girl.
13:46So, I passed my baton.
13:50Okay.
13:51So, you're suggesting that, because I'm doing this, Cheryl, I have to make this exact same
13:55thing again?
13:56Do it again.
13:57Do it again.
13:58I mean, we can do that.
14:01It doesn't, it's delicious.
14:03It is.
14:04No, it's delicious.
14:05But, like, how long back does this go?
14:08Did you ever have a different omelet that you made him back at, you know, Ohio State
14:12days or anything like that?
14:14Well, you know, Nick wasn't as, you know, crazy disciplined back in the days.
14:19You know, he used to, you know, allow himself a slice of toast.
14:23But, you know, now.
14:25Yeah.
14:26I love, I love this.
14:27Boy, really splurging.
14:28I love that you sound like, I swore you were going to say bacon or something, and you're
14:32like, he would allow himself a piece of toast.
14:36He actually would put a carbohydrate in his body back then.
14:39Yeah.
14:40Oh, boy.
14:40Living on the edge.
14:41I'm crazy.
14:42Yeah.
14:43Going crazy.
14:44Going into this year, have you sensed, and I'm going to use the word hunger, pun intended,
14:49because we're talking about food, but is he extra hungry coming off a 6 and 11 year?
14:55Is that how he's hardwired?
14:57Oh, you mean to win?
14:59Yeah, to win and to make things right here in Santa Clara.
15:03Absolutely.
15:04Absolutely.
15:05Yeah.
15:06I mean, Nick has always got that, but, you know, he's got that quiet energy about him
15:11where sometimes you don't, you don't really know that it's there.
15:16But, yeah.
15:16I mean, if you know Nick, it's, it's, there's nobody more competitive and, and focused than
15:23him.
15:24There's just nobody.
15:25But, you know, it's like, it makes me think of Fred Warner.
15:28They're like, Fred and Nick are like complete opposites exterior.
15:32You know what I mean?
15:33But like so much alike as competitors, as teammates and competitors.
15:38So, it's interesting.
15:40So, he feels like they're going to be a winner this year, huh?
15:43Like, how would you compare?
15:44Yeah.
15:44Yeah.
15:45What is he saying to you versus what he has said in years past?
15:48Well, I mean, I think like, you know, in the beginning when they were still here, when
15:52Joey first went to Buffalo, you know, we were, we were touting Buffalo.
15:56I mean, you know, Buffalo has been on the cusp, you know, for years now.
16:01And everyone's been talking about Buffalo, you know, winning.
16:04And so, we were talking about that.
16:06And Nick would be like, don't count us out.
16:09Don't count us out.
16:10You know?
16:11So, he definitely wants us to, like, don't forget me, Mom.
16:15Yep.
16:16All right.
16:17Bosa Bowl, February, Santa Clara.
16:20Let's do it.
16:21Let's do it.
16:22We're in.
16:22Yep.
16:23We're in.
16:23Come on out.
16:24Um, Cheryl, you're, uh, you're a great sport.
16:27And, uh, just as I did a couple of years ago, we'll, uh, we'll make sure that you're
16:31tagged on, uh, on Instagram on the, uh, the seven egg omelet that, that now we're going
16:36to have to make, uh, on, uh, Friday of this week.
16:39Well, let me, let me see the omelet.
16:41Make sure I know I get to see it.
16:43Okay.
16:44Yes.
16:44All right.
16:45All right, Cheryl.
16:45Thank you very much.
16:47Go Niners.
16:48Go Niners.
16:49All right.
16:49There it is.
16:50Niners Bills.
16:51Cheryl Bosa, Niners Bills.
16:52Shoot your shot.
16:53It's all you got.
