00:00As we go to the north central region, let's talk about the snow.
00:04Now, you might notice the top state snow totals here.
00:07One of these is very different than the other three that, of course, is Michigan.
00:12With the 15 inches, why, you might be wondering, well, it's the lake effect snow.
00:16We had a very small portion of the state overall had some lake effect snow the last 24 hours,
00:21and it led to that snow total you're seeing in mirrors where, meanwhile, everywhere else,
00:25well, it's six or four and a half inches somewhere like Louisville, where that's a significant amount of snow for Louisville overall.
00:33Now, as we transition to the next couple of days, we have another front that moves through.
00:37We do get some more snow, but the story really is the cold at this point more than it is the snow.
00:43So for the northern plains into the Great Lakes region, it's Thursday morning.
00:48That is going to be the coldest air we have had yet this season.
00:52However, it's just going to get worse from here.
00:54We are going to be challenging records here.
00:56We're talking about sub-zero temperatures.
00:59Take a look.
00:59Iowa, you get the bulk of it first.
01:02And, I mean, Spencer here, we're talking 14 below.
01:05The previous record is 9 from 2005 here.
01:08I mean, that is significant.
01:09It's dangerous cold that you want to make sure that you are prepared for.
01:13We zoom out, look at the big picture Wednesday night, so Thursday morning.
01:16It's the same lows.
01:17We're 5 below in Minneapolis, 7 below in Fargo, straight up 0 in Green Bay.
01:23Yeah, you don't want to be out and about in that.
01:26That is for sure.
01:27Seeing some ducks swimming through the water in Kansas, it'll be a different situation in places like Minneapolis come Wednesday night.
01:34Now, while it is more the cold than the snow that's the story at this point, I do want to show you what to expect with the snow.
01:39Now, it's just going to be some more snowflakes adding on to what you're already seeing in places like Green Up, Illinois.
01:44There on the right-hand side of your screen, keeping the snow fresh, keeping the snow pretty, but still keeping some of those slick spots out there as well.
01:51And I know when the cold, when the temperature drops below a certain point, road salt isn't even necessarily effective.
01:59And so that creates some new challenges for road crews trying to keep things safe there.
02:04The dog here in Topeka, Kansas, it has the right idea.
02:07Get right back inside.
02:08That's what you're going to want to be doing with your dogs the next couple of days.
02:11That's what you're going to want to be doing with your dogs.
