00:00Let's get to the Garden, not Madison Square Garden,
00:02the Boston Garden, the Knicks and the Celtics tonight, Joe.
00:05Now we have a one-point favorite at a lot of outlets here
00:08for the Boston Celtics live in a total of 230.
00:11What's that quick spread line on this one for you?
00:13Line flip, Donnie.
00:15Last night, Knicks opened up as a slight favorite in that game.
00:19The total has been getting bet up all night long, up over 230 now.
00:24Your Celtics are now the favorite.
00:26Oh, we spend a lot of time talking about NCAA football and NFL football,
00:30and rightfully so as those teams are looking to make playoff surges
00:33in both the NFL and also in college football.
00:36We've got to get to some hoops action.
00:37It's Donnie Wright said it's Joe O'Neary.
00:39Let's bring in the coach, our coach, James Young.
00:42And there is a lot of topics to get to today, Coach J.Y.
00:45How are we feeling this morning?
00:46Good, bad, cold?
00:47What is it?
00:48A little cold, but that's all right.
00:50I got my hot coffee, so I'm ready to roll.
00:52But, I mean, you want to talk about Monday night football.
00:53How about Monday night madness in the NBA with all these upsets
00:57that took place last night?
00:59I got to tell you, Coach, yesterday on this show,
01:01I like to do a public fade every day.
01:03I was like, you know what?
01:04Some don't look right here.
01:05One team won by 30 the night before.
01:07Looks like another easy victory for Houston.
01:09We were on the Jazz yesterday.
01:10An outright victory, which is the question I want to ask you here.
01:13It seems, Coach, to me, we have a real high top end right now in the NBA
01:18and a real low bar for some teams that already look like they're done
01:23on the season, Coach.
01:24OKC 20-1, the Pistons 17-4, the Lakers 15-5.
01:29We got some great stuff at the top, but some bad stuff at the bottom here.
01:33Well, we have some bad stuff at the bottom.
01:35And one of the teams that was at the top was the Rockets,
01:39who gave up 133 points to a Utah Jazz team.
01:42And I want people to understand this with Utah.
01:44We're going to see what happens with Laurie Markkinen.
01:46I fully expect Danny Ainge to putt and trade him because Danny Ainge trains
01:50everybody, and he's always in a rebuilding mode.
01:52But he's got to get a little bit of credit for Keontae George.
01:56He's really come on to his own.
01:5728 points last night.
01:59This guy was a walking bucket at Baylor for Scott Drew.
02:02He could be that ace in the hole for them in the backcourt.
02:07If they move on Markkinen, give a little bit more time to Ace Bailey,
02:10and then you're looking at that NBA draft, whether it's DeBanza,
02:14or is it Boozer, or is it Peterson?
02:16Those are kind of those top three guys.
02:18But at some point, Utah, even though they're giving you some good numbers,
02:21especially at Laurie Markkinen, I still expect them to be traded,
02:24whether it's at the trade deadline or during the summer,
02:26because they're just going to keep hitting the reset button.
02:31Coach, I mean, I don't want to consider it an upset,
02:34but, I mean, the Lakers have been very, very good,
02:38even with LeBron coming back, but they've beaten all teams under .500.
02:43Then they met the Phoenix Suns last night in the second of a back-to-back,
02:46and it didn't work out all that well.
02:48Nobody thought Phoenix would be this competitive.
02:51Are you shocked here, and are the Lakers just really good
02:54against bad teams here?
02:57Stunned.
02:58I'm stunned.
02:59And when you look at Phoenix, I'll look at this team,
03:01and all these teams are a hot mess.
03:02I mean, think about this, guys.
03:03They score 125 points, and tell me if you had this on your bingo card.
03:09Booker gets 11.
03:10Gillespie gets you 28.
03:12Brooks gets you 33.
03:14Oh, and you would buy 17 points.
03:17That's like, oh, you know, whatever.
03:19And 45.
03:21I never got that on my bingo card.
03:24So, to me, what a performance by those guys,
03:27and you have to give them credit.
03:28And Matt Ispey, the owner, kind of went after people, me including.
03:32But I was like, this team's going to be terrible.
03:35But they're competing.
03:36They're playing well.
03:37And the Lakers kind of took advantage of their schedule a little bit
03:41in regards to the teams that they've beaten.
03:43So, not all of these long winning streaks are equal.
03:48You can even look at Detroit winning a close game last night.
03:51Right?
03:52They had that 13-game winning streak.
03:53Guys, only four of those games were against teams over 500.
03:58Only one game was against a team that's top six in the East.
04:02So, when you look at, yes, teams are playing well.
04:05But you've got to look at who they're playing, how they're matching up,
04:09who's available, who's traveling, so on and so forth.
04:13How about this, Coach?
04:14I want to focus on OKC because they're doing something remarkable right now.
04:18Here's a tweet from the NBA that they put out.
04:20Like, SGA scored 20-plus points in 93 straight games.
04:24And if you don't know how hard that is to do,
04:26the second longest streak in the NBA behind only Wilt Chamberlain,
04:29when it's you and Wilt Chamberlain doing something right.
04:32But answer me this question.
04:33You see what SGA and Golden State are doing right now.
04:36And I just told you the standings.
04:3720-1.
04:38Sometimes you take a look at the regular season and say,
04:41yes, it's about winning a championship, which they did last year.
04:44Talk to me, Coach, about setting records and that mindset for OKC,
04:47which every victory they get, pressing that needle down.
04:50Hey, you're usually going to take a night off next Tuesday.
04:52I don't want to take a night off.
04:53Like, we're doing something historic.
04:54What is OKC's finish line point this season, Coach?
04:59What is it?
04:59Can they break the all-time record for wins in an NBA season?
05:03They absolutely can.
05:04And it doesn't matter that J-Dub missed the first whatever 18-so games of the season.
05:09It doesn't matter if Hartenstein missed time.
05:11It doesn't matter if Chet missed his time.
05:12Number one, as long as SGA is healthy, that's key.
05:16But we have to get our flowers to Sam Presti.
05:18I mean, you want to talk about Bingo?
05:20Let's play again.
05:21Isaiah Mitchell giving you, what, 15.2 points per game.
05:25Wiggins giving you 13.2.
05:27You know, Isaiah Joe stepping up.
05:29Keeson Wallace stepping up.
05:30Lou Dorr.
05:31I mean, it's literally like, roll the dice.
05:35Who's the five?
05:35All right, you guys go in and go play.
05:37And they don't beat teams.
05:39They smoke teams.
05:40That's the interesting thing about the NBA.
05:41In a league where it's pros, and you're looking at teams and saying,
05:44okay, anybody can beat anybody.
05:48You literally go into game.
05:50And it's almost like the 96 Bulls or that 73-9 Warrior Sheep.
05:55It's not like, are they going to lose?
05:57It's like, well, how much are you going to buy?
05:59Or are they going to cover the spread?
06:01Because they just have too many weapons.
06:03And this is just, honestly, guys, the beginning of what I think could be a run
06:08that could go on for almost a decade.
06:10Crazy.
06:11Yeah, well, and the schedule helps, too,
06:13because they played a whole lot of just absolute garbage.
06:16And they're winning those games rather easily.
06:19Listen, your Knicks, coach, I mean, come on, man.
06:22Brunson averaging, what, 28-29 a game.
06:25They're playing defense.
06:27They got some depth.
06:28And yet the market has flipped in here.
06:31And now, all of a sudden, we're looking at the Celtics,
06:33a favorite tonight in Boston against your Knicks.
06:36You got to like what you're seeing from the Knicks so far, no?
06:39Yeah, I like what I see out of the Knicks so far.
06:41Boston's played better, but when you look at New York,
06:43it's just a different style of basketball, right?
06:45The ball's moving.
06:46The people's moving.
06:47Not just, even though Brunson's had a big week,
06:50Eastern Conference Player of the Week,
06:51they're getting contributions from everywhere.
06:53And here's a key guy to look at.
06:55His minutes are very small.
06:58Look at Mitchell Robinson.
07:00I think he's up there for rebounds per minute.
07:01If they hang that number at 7 1⁄2, I'll tell you right now,
07:06it does not matter.
07:07He will give you, last game, he had 17 minutes and 15 rebounds.
07:12So, look at Mitchell Robinson's numbers.
07:15It's close to game time.
07:16If he plays, it's about 7 1⁄2.
07:18Look to take the over.
07:20Coach, quick update here on the NBA Awards market with the MVP.
07:23Tight knit with the top three.
07:24SGA, Jokic, and Doncic.
07:26Who is your MVP early in the NBA season?
07:29Honestly, none of the three.
07:32If they stay number one, Cade Cunningham should get considered for MVP.
07:3750-1 shot there.
07:39Coach has handed out 50-1 tickets.
07:41Pay your Christmas presents.
07:42Give me a fadeaway to the break, Coach.
07:44Pump, pump, pump, pump, pump it up, baby.
07:48Let's do a break.
07:49Thanks, Coach.
07:50All right, let's get busy here.
07:52In the NBA, a little public fade action.
07:54I say, nobody wanted the Utah Jazz, except your boy here,
07:56taking the points but still winning the game outright.
07:59I'd love to see it for you, Tom.
08:00For me, I'm going with the New Orleans Pelicans.
08:03Look at this line.
08:04Opened up at 9, now sits around 10 at most marketplaces.
08:07Only 35% of the bets coming in on the Pelicans.
08:10That's where I'm going.
08:11I quoted a movie earlier, Joe.
08:13I'm going to quote the same movie right now.
08:15Fly, Pelicans, fly.
08:17Hey, another Scarface reference for your boy here.
08:19As the Pelicans, getting double digits at home,
08:22closes out a 2-0 night for us again tonight, Joe.
08:24You're not going to quote the main idea.
