00:00Two games down, hundreds of games to go in the NBA,
00:04which does start tonight with a packed, packed slate here.
00:07You love to see it.
00:07Some pretty good matchups, Joe.
00:09How about the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Garden tonight to take on the New York Knicks?
00:12I have an opening line that was minus three and a half towards the New York Knicks, Joe.
00:16Now I see across the board, Cleveland Cavaliers as minus one and a half point favorites
00:21in a total that sits around 227 and a half.
00:24The Garden Party starts tonight.
00:26The Knicks are an underdog.
00:28Are you taking them as a slight home dog tonight, Joe?
00:31Well, these are the two favorites in the East, right?
00:35So this is a fantastic matchup, one in which we had a chance to see, right, last year,
00:40which is pretty interesting.
00:42And again, I get why you wanted the Knicks opened up as the favorite at home in the Garden,
00:49but there has been, I'm with you, Donnie, over the last 48 hours,
00:52there has been nothing but Cavs money hitting the marketplace in this spot.
00:56But this is going to be interesting.
00:58I mean, Mike Brown now, we know how much he loves to play defense.
01:01We know that you ain't scoring in the paint against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
01:06So I think this is going to be a very interesting game, one in which I don't want to be sweating
01:11out and over because I don't know how many points we're getting in this one tonight.
01:15Estimated starting lineup tonight for the Knicks.
01:17Jalen Brunson, OG Ananobi, Mike Kell Bridges, Gershon, Yabuselli, and Carl Anthony Towns.
01:23By the way, Cavaliers with an estimated starting lineup that includes Alonzo Ball out there.
01:28Good times in the NBA.
01:29It's back, which includes the Battle of the State of Florida, the Miami Heat, and the Orlando Magic tonight.
01:33How about the Magic?
01:35Eight to eight and a half point favorite, depending where you're shopping at,
01:37and a low total, which is typical of Magic games, at 216.
01:41But that's up from 212 on that early number.
01:44Orlando at home against the Miami Heat, Joe.
01:46How about that?
01:49Well, Donnie, I'll tell you this.
01:50I mean, it was a clear decision by Orlando in the offseason to try and increase the shooting.
01:57That's why they went out and traded for Desmond Bain and gave him $125 million for Memphis, right?
02:02They need somebody that can complement and stretch the floor here for Boncaro and Wagner here.
02:09They just can't be the, I'm going to shut you down defense.
02:12That's only going to take you so far.
02:14They still have that ability here.
02:16And we know Miami is always about defense.
02:19They are not going to want to get into a shootout.
02:22They don't have Tyler Hero.
02:23He got hurt a couple of weeks ago.
02:25So they've got a lot of young pieces.
02:28But this game, to me, is going to be an absolute rock fight.
02:31The total is what now?
02:332-7.
02:33How are we getting that many points?
02:35Miami is going to drag this game into the mud.
02:38Orlando is going to be more than happy to go there with them.
02:41Yeah, I think this is a dead under here tonight.
02:447-30 in another garden tonight.
02:47That's the Boston Garden.
02:48The Philadelphia 76ers on the road against their rival, the Boston Celtics.
02:52Look at this line here, Joe.
02:53Minus two to minus two and a half, depending where he's shopping for the Boston Celtics.
02:57A total listed at 227 and a half.
02:59Estimated starting lineup tonight for the Philadelphia 76ers.
03:02Maxie, Edgecombe, Grimes, Oubre.
03:04And how about this?
03:06Joe LNB.
03:07Now, look at, now, see, here's the crazy thing.
03:09We had, you know, Mr. Kaufman, as I like to say, on yesterday to talk to us about a little
03:13of that Boston landscape yesterday.
03:14Look at the starting lineup they anticipated tonight for the Boston Celtics.
03:17Pritchard, White, Brown, Hauser, and Cater.
03:20And the Celtics are a favorite.
03:22And you know what?
03:23I think the Celtics should be a favorite tonight with that starting lineup.
03:26Tough times here this season, maybe for both of these ball clubs.
03:30Right.
03:30Well, again, one of the greatest teams on paper are these Philadelphia 76ers.
03:36And yet we are very rarely and have to this point, Donnie, seen how good this team could
03:42be.
03:43They look great on paper.
03:44But the fact that you got Embiid starting is a good sign.
03:47But now you got to get Paul George back after the knee surgery.
03:50You got to get him in there.
03:52You got to figure some things out here, Philly.
03:54They have the talent, Donnie.
03:55Whether or not they put it together or they all stay healthy, totally different ball game
04:00here.
04:01Let's squeeze a quick one in the Pels and the Grizzlies, a four and a half point favorite
04:03at home for the Grizzlies and a total of 236 and a half, which is a nice total here.
04:07We had that question yesterday.
04:09How well is Zion going to play?
04:10And also, is he going to be a Pelican by the end of the year?
04:13The Pels on the road catching points, Joe.
04:14Yeah, they are.
04:16I mean, he is a...
04:17Yes, we had the NBA opening last night.
04:20Yes, we reviewed it multiple times today.
04:22We got exactly what we wanted.
04:24Good basketball games, superstar athletes outside of really injured players played last
04:28night.
04:29Isn't that a novel concept?
04:30Put your best foot forward, NBA.
04:31The people will watch, enjoy, and talk about of how glorious it is.
04:35But we know how this works, Joe.
04:36In about one month's time, me and you on this very show on, let you say, hump day Wednesday
04:41will say, ooh, look at this game tonight between two star-studded teams, only to find out those
04:46stars won't be playing that star-studded game, which is the primetime game on national TV.
04:51The NBA always trips itself up.
04:53But let's bask in the glory right now of what we're getting out of the NBA and what we saw
04:56last night, which includes the Eastern Conference.
04:59Let's take a look at some of the teams that we believe could win the Eastern Conference.
05:03And you might say last night, hey, about time the East gets in, Bob, because last night
05:06it was two games between four Western Conference teams.
05:10The New York Knicks, plus money, plus 210 price to win it.
05:12Excuse me.
05:13The Cleveland Cavaliers at plus 210.
05:15The Knicks at a plus 370 price.
05:17The Magic plus 360, excuse me, plus 650 is I'm dyslexic right now.
05:21And the Hawks, Pistons, and Celtics behind them.
05:24Opening up the season in the Eastern Conference tonight, Joe, is it true the Cavaliers should
05:28be taking this down?
05:30Listen, they should be the favorite, right?
05:33I mean, both the Cavs and the Knicks, for the most part, return.
05:37I mean, the Knicks returned all five starters, right?
05:40So they've got some continuity, but a new head coach.
05:44And boy, oh boy, how close is Cleveland going to get?
05:47They have the right pieces.
05:48Health is going to be an issue again for Cleveland as they move forward here.
05:53But both, like, are certainly going to want to play a very physical and tough style of basketball.
05:59So injuries are going to be a big concern moving forward for both those teams.
06:04But the East is, I mean, not even close to what the West is, Donnie.
06:08So to me, there are two clear favorites, and that is the Cavs and the Knicks that take it down.
06:14Like, you see the Celtics at 11-1.
06:16And we just understand they're a great organization.
06:18And maybe Tatum will be back and they make a couple moves at the deadline.
06:20And Cleveland's not as good.
06:21The Knicks aren't as good right now.
06:22Because it is, to me, truly.
06:24Like, Cleveland, I do think, is the best team in the East.
06:26And I agree with the oddsmakers that you should be in second place there with the Knicks.
06:29But it just feels like one move here, one injury here or there.
06:32And it is completely wide open in the East, Joe.
06:35It really is.
06:36I mean, I know there's a lot of people that are interested in buying the Hawks.
06:41But I don't see it.
06:44I mean, I love Quinn Snyder, right?
06:46But I just don't know that this is the kind of team that is going to be able to take down a Cavs or a Knicks here in the long run.
06:54So, and again, another team that can't seem to stay healthy at all over the season.
07:01Not buying what a lot of people are buying right now with the Atlanta Hawks.
07:07Yeah.
07:08Let's flip it over to the Western Conference.
07:09You saw that graphic come up.
07:10We could put that up again.
07:11OKC, fresh off of their victory last night.
07:13All the favorites at a plus 125 price.
07:15You've got to hold on for six months to get that money back on that ticket, which is wild.
07:19Nuggets, Rockets, Clippers, Lakers, T-Wolves.
07:21Now, that's a conference, Joe.
07:22You go up and down, and you're going to say, even if the Lakers are in there right now at 11 to 1 price on the graphic, you get what you get there, man.
07:30You can make a case for these teams.
07:32You absolutely, listen, they should be the favorite.
07:34I mean, they just showed you why they're the favorite last night.
07:37But I think also Houston showed you that they absolutely, in a seven-game series, what kind of heavyweight fight would that be there?
07:45And why do we keep forgetting about Denver?
07:47I mean, the best player in the NBA plays on the Denver Nuggets.
07:51And it's not even close, as far as I'm concerned.
07:53So the most unstoppable force there that is going to have an opportunity, once again, to play spoiler when it's all said and done.
08:02And look at that number.
08:03You want to give me five, six to one on the Denver Nuggets?
08:06Yeah, I'll consider it.
08:08You're darn right we will.
08:10How about this, Joe?
08:10Let's consider some of these basketball games that take place tonight.
08:13Clippers and the Jazz, 9 p.m.
08:15Salt Lake City, a 10-and-a-half point favorite for the Clippers here.
08:19This is the time we get the Clippers, where they're at their healthiest, Joe.
08:22Anticipated starting lineup tonight.
08:23Harden, Beal, Leonard, Collins, and Zubach.
08:26Kawhi Leonard getting paid from the Clippers and from Arbor Bank, Trees, or whoever it is.
08:31He should be there tonight.
08:32Is this a double-digit victory for the Clippers?
08:34Or can the Jazz surprise on opening night in elevation?
08:37And maybe, James Harden, say, looks like he's a little out of shape.
08:40Couldn't be him, huh?
08:43Well, you know, the Clippers went on a, I think they won 18 of their final 21 games last year
08:48to make the playoffs, right?
08:4950-32.
08:51And then, of course, they got destroyed by the Denver Nuggets in that first round here.
08:56But the good news is Kawhi Leonard is the healthiest that he has been, apparently, there.
09:02And, well, let's face it.
09:04He only played 37 games last year because of the knee.
09:07But he's starting the season healthy, which is a good sign.
09:10For the Utah Jazz, Donnie, it's going to be all about the youth.
09:13Number five pick, Ace Bailey, right?
09:16My guy, Walter Clayton Jr. from the champion Florida Gators there.
09:22It's all about the future for Utah.
09:24And I can't wait to see how it all unfolds because they got a lot of very young
09:29and very good pieces on that Utah Jazz Club.
09:32You know, I can't wait to see, like, sometimes, like, in the NBA, like, you get those anomaly-type
09:36players, like Shaquille Neal in the 90s, Will Chamberlain back in the day, like, game changers.
09:40The reason I bring this up is your superstar, Victor Webinyama, who's already freakishly tall,
09:45gained an inch over the offseason.
09:48I don't know how you can defend them.
09:50I don't know how you're going to get a shot up over them here.
09:52But it's the Battle of Texas night.
09:53And the Dallas Mavericks are favored by minus two and a half.
09:55I love this.
09:56The NBA did a good job here.
09:57We want to see Spurs Mavericks opening night here.
09:59And we're going to get that.
10:01Well, you got Cooper Flagg, who is the league's youngest player, right?
10:05Come on now.
10:05He's 18 years old.
10:07He's 18 years, 10 months, I think, is what they said.
10:11And an absolute superstar.
10:13And then, of course, you mentioned you got Victor Webinyama, their own 21-year-old center.
10:17This is going to be the battle for the next decade plus, Donnie, that we should all sign up to watch for.
10:24I think this is fantastic.
10:25And tonight is our first glimpse at what the future between the Spurs and the Mavericks,
10:31two teams that are going to be very relevant for quite a long time again.
10:35Ant-Man's heading out west to go and take over the Portland Trailblazers tonight.
10:39They come in as a slight favorite.
10:40You open up at three and a half.
10:41Most outlets here are sitting between three and a half and fours, depending where you're shopping at.
10:44And a total of 220 and a half.
10:46The Rose City going up against the Timberwolves here.
10:49What are we looking at?
10:50Yeah, well, it's going to be interesting.
10:51They got this Portland team.
10:53What a finish last year.
10:55And they have, well, no more DeAndre Ayton because, well, he was terrible there.
10:59But they got Holiday in there now.
11:01They've got some interesting pieces to surround Henderson and other young guys they have.
11:07But they're going to get tested here against Minnesota tonight for sure.
11:11Quick one between the Kings and the Suns.
11:13The Suns are at home favored by four and a half to four.
11:15Excuse me, four and a half to four, depending where he's shopping.
11:17And a total of around 229 and a half.
11:19Joe, Kings, Suns tonight in the West.
11:22Suns are in a tough spot here.
11:24But how bad are the Kings that they're still getting four points here against this Phoenix Suns team that's, I don't think, going to be very good this year.
11:31Let's switch it up on the betting markets here.
11:33Let's hit some Calci profits that you might be interested in, huh?
11:36Interesting times right here on the grid.
11:38Calci and Polymarket here.
11:40A fun way and interesting way, I should say, to bet professional sports and, more importantly, some professional topics here that you don't get.
11:46Similar to the stock market.
11:47And Joe Ranieri, I know you have a pretty good grasp on this.
11:50And some people might be listening in saying, I don't really know what Polymarket is or Calci and why this is important.
11:55And, by the way, from a network perspective for the show, we're not just pimping something out.
11:59Like, we're saying this is kind of a unique market that some people might get into and we're getting asked questions on it.
12:04So we might as well provide some segments here to understand what exactly these markets are.
12:08And, to be honest, Calci just signed with the NHL as one of their premier markets right now for sports betting.
12:13So it's not as if it's some backwater thing that's illegal that you can do.
12:16It's legal and being sponsored by the major sports at this time.
12:19Can you explain, Joe, just quickly in a nutshell what Calci and also Polymarket actually do and why some people might be interested in it?
12:26Well, it's a platform that enables you to trade yes or no questions with contract prices based upon whatever the probability.
12:37Yes, there had a probability of an event actually happening.
12:40The interesting part about this, Donnie, is that it's not like a sports book where Calci is holding, has any, you know, invested interest one way or the other here.
12:51They're basically the middleman.
12:53And you're buying into a market like you would buy with any other market with contracts.
12:58You can get in at one price, Donnie, and if that price goes up before the event ends, well, then guess what?
13:05If you bought something at, let's say, a dollar, but it's up to $15 before the event happens one way or the other, you can cash that contract in or sell it or whatever it is.
13:15It's very much like a predictive marketplace, no different than what you get on Wall Street and other places, which is why it is governed by the Securities Commission and nothing else.
13:26You know what's interesting about this, too, because sometimes you have to look at it like a different perspective.
13:30Like, we always talk about, like, I don't want to put $100 down on, let's just say, OK, Seda, plus $120 price to win the NBA championship.
13:37I do better things.
13:38But if you look at it like it's from a stock market mentality, and the question we're going to ask right now, Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown to play together in Boston again is basically what the question is.
13:46It's like, these two guys were on the same team, they will be on the same team.
13:49Now, granted, if Jason Tatum says, oh, my gosh, I love Boston and I want to stay here, but my Achilles is so bad I can never play again, that bet would lose.
13:56But understand this, let's just say he does play together within six months.
13:59He gets a game in in late April where they don't trade Jalen Brown and they play.
14:03If you put $100 on, will these two play together in Boston, the return would be $20.
14:09So $100 would pay back $120.
14:11That's a 20% increase on the funds that you put in.
14:14Now, understand, so how do they determine that here?
14:17It's listed in the rule summary.
14:18It says, if Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown play a game for Boston before January 1st, 2027, the market resolves to yes.
14:26The outcome is verified by ESPN and the NBA.
14:29Now, granted, it's verified because they would get on the court and play a minute and it would be logged.
14:33But it's interesting to say, like, let me put $100 down, let me make 20% on my investment in six months, and then I'll cash that out.
14:40But as Joe pointed out as well, if those numbers are changing back and forth rapidly, you can buy in and buy out at that time.
14:46It's just a really interesting way to look at the market.
14:49Then again, let me just bet on FanDuel, DraftKings, or Bet365, tie that money up and I don't see it.
14:54It's the stock market.
14:55It's going to be going like this up and down.
14:56You can watch your money, Joe, in real time.
14:58Yeah, and basically you are buying into a position that this is going to happen at least once by January 1st, 2027.
15:08And, you know, a couple of different things here.
15:11Jalen Brown, we know, is going to be the center of attention for this team while Tatum recovers from the Achilles here.
15:18But from an organizational standpoint, you got new ownership there, and it looks like all the moves they have made and the money they have cleared up here is about keeping Brown, Tatum, and Derek White together for the near future.
15:32So, yes, that is why it is absolutely the market believes that they will play at least one game together before January 1st of 2027.
15:41Ah, yes, time flies when you're having fun.
15:44A two-hour show turns into a roughly six-minute show now at this point right now.
15:48We covered everything you need to know on a hump day Wednesday right here on the Sports Grid Network from the NBA to some golf.
15:54Yeah, golf is still taking place now to the NFL and so many hot topics.
15:58But now is the time where we say you've heard us talk for so much of the show.
16:02We want to hear you talk.
16:03Well, at least through the computer at this point.
16:05Here's our favorite public poll.
16:11You watched the game last night, people, and how do you get back to us in a response when we ask questions?
16:18It's simple.
16:19Go over to X at Sports Grid.
16:21Hit the follow button every morning around 6 a.m.
16:23A question will be released that we want information from the public on to determine if we're going to fade the public or not.
16:29That question this morning, after watching OKC with a one-point victory in double overtime over the Houston Rockets,
16:34the question was, will OKC win back-to-back NBA titles this season?
16:39One question, two answers, simple yes or no.
16:43I voted no along with 74% of the betting public here.
16:48Not because I don't think OKC is good.
16:50It's so damn hard to repeat.
16:52That's why, Joe, what are you thinking here on this question?
16:55Well, and the other thing, Donnie, is that we talked about it earlier on the show.
16:59That Western Conference is ridiculous.
17:02And it's not that, listen, they have all the same guys back, Donnie, right, for another championship run.
17:08The problem is everybody else chasing you now is also better.
17:13And we saw that last night with Houston.
17:15So, you know, again, you go from the hunter to the hunted.
17:19It's a totally different animal here with OKC.
17:22We'll see how they handle the pressure here moving forward.
17:25Yeah.
17:25Again, they're a really good basketball team.
17:27They're going to get one of their better players back at some point in the season.
17:30And then you say, all right, what's going to take shape?
17:32But once we know injuries happen, long season, what, you know, season, excuse me,
17:36what seeding do you get entering into the playoffs?
17:39Do you have to go to Denver as opposed to Denver going there?
17:41It's a fun team to watch play out.
17:42They were exciting last night again, picking up that victory.
17:45Didn't cover, but they did win that game here.
17:48Now, it's that point of the show.
17:50We're going to get down to business.
17:51I told you yesterday, like we're a team here.
17:53I lost yesterday.
17:53Joe won.
17:54It's a rare occasion that we go 0-2.
17:57Your worst case is usually 1-1 with a 2-0 opportunity.
18:02Let's get down to the business of bye, bye, bye.
18:11The NBA, people.
18:12It's back in our lives.
18:13It's only fitting that we probably have two games, at least, to the NBA to bet on tonight
18:18in this bye, bye, bye segment.
18:20Joe, where are you going tonight?
18:21The NBA.
18:22It's an open book.
18:22I am going to go to my Miami Heat, taking on the Orlando Magic tonight, Donnie, and I
18:31love the under in this game here, 2-16-and-a-half, and I think that's being generous, given the
18:37injuries, quite honestly, to both sides right now.
18:42Jalen Suggs likely not going here tonight for Orlando.
18:47We know we're also questionable for Miami.
18:50We know they're not going to have any of the big scoring that they had hoped to have.
18:57Bam Adebayo is going to be the guy that has to make it up with Wiggins and Norman.
19:03But we know Miami doesn't like to play fast.
19:06They're going to slow this tempo down.
19:07It's about defense, defense, defense.
19:10And it's the same thing with Wagner and Boncaro.
19:14And yeah, you had Desmond Bain, but there is no way this is going to be some wild shootout
19:19in game one.
19:21Miami wins games by playing suffocating defense.
19:24So does Orlando.
19:26I think this thing should be right around 2-10, Donnie.
19:29Gives me six and a half points of value, and I'll take it to the under.
19:32As the most unbiased man here in sports, particularly on this network, Joe, I bring to you the Philadelphia
19:3976ers and the Boston Celtics.
19:41I will be cheering for the Philadelphia 76ers.
19:43And by the way, all offseason in the summer, I say, man, Joel Embiid, like, what is his
19:47injury?
19:47Is his knee just that bad?
19:48We won't even see him until December.
19:50He's going to be in the starting lineup tonight.
19:52Now, Paul George, not going to be there, but certainly on the mend.
19:55And as Joe always points out, like, the Sixers are an unbelievable team.
19:57If you just look at the paper, like, wow, the bench looks deep.
19:59A good mix of young talent with Embiid and George, they should be able to put it together
20:03in a wide open NBA, specifically Eastern Conference.
20:06But we brought to you earlier in the show some of those odds on to win the Eastern Conference.
20:11The Sixers ain't showing up in the top half there, and there's good reason for that.
20:14The Sixers tonight are getting two to two and a half, pretending on where you were shopping
20:18at tonight.
20:18The total is 227 and a half to 229 and a half.
20:21I'm going to take the Boston Celtics tonight.
20:23And we read to you earlier, that starting lineup of the Boston Celtics, just in rare form,
20:27as you'd like to say, for what we've seen over the Celtics for the past couple years.
20:31But I'm just not buying into the Philadelphia 76ers.
20:33I will be cheering for the Philadelphia 76ers, but I will be taking the Boston Celtics tonight
20:38in the Boston Garden to knock off my Sixers here, Joe.
20:41How about that?
20:42Unbiasedness.
20:43We only get to the winners, Joe, and that's what the people need.
20:45They don't need people cheering on their fans up here and just betting random games.
20:50Impressive stuff, Donnie.
20:51I'm shocked you're starting the season off that way here, but I don't blame you in the least.
20:55I don't blame you in the bonus.
