00:00Welcome to the viewers who have joined us on BBC One Scotland, as ever in Scottish football, no shortage of drama today, Rory Loy and Tom English alongside me in the studio, some big games covered on sports sound today, let's take you on a journey around the grounds to get the latest of the 3 o'clock kick-offs, first off, Fair Park, Motherwell against Hearts, Ian McCall is here for us.
00:28Yeah, listen, it's been a decent enough game, a lot of it's played in the middle of the place, there's not been many chances in the game, Lawrence Shankland had a header, miraculously cleared off the line from Motherwell, and the best chance of the game was Elijah Justice, a header from about six yards out, he's really got to score and the goalie makes a decent save, but you know, there's not been enough action in both boxes, albeit, as you're joining me, Hearts are just starting to take control of the game, without playing any, you know, magnificent
00:58football, without making any great chances, they're certainly in the ascendancy right now.
01:03Ian, we had a big discussion at the top of the programme about Motherwell, so much debate about them this season, their style of play, so much praise, the fans are loving it, certainly in recent weeks the results are coming with that as well.
01:14Your first viewing of them today, what have you made of them?
01:16Yeah, I think they look like a really good side, they look really quick, they look as if they've got a lot of pace, now, as I've said before, whether that's because they have got quick players or the level of their passing is very, very good, they've got a threat at either end of the pitch, you know, at the top end of the pitch, they've got pace at the top end of the pitch.
01:33I like the way Askew changed tactics after about 10 minutes, he went to two strikers and with a box four in midfield, almost a 4-2-2-2, as you were, so, I mean, yeah, they're a good side, you know, but a lot of the stuff that's, you know, I've seen it before, it's not as if this is a new thing.
01:50Tony Mowbray at Hibs in 2003, 2004, when that great crop of players came through with Scott Brown and Kevin Thompson, et cetera, Riordan, they played some of this, they made the game really, really long, but listen, it's not been a great game, but mother of a good, good side, there's no doubt about it.
02:06Yeah, it's not a classic, Rony, but it is an intriguing tactical battle, isn't it?
02:09Yeah, I suppose, I suppose so, I genuinely had high hopes for the game, isn't it?
02:14I'm doing my best to talk it off.
02:15Yeah, yeah, I know, I'm not sure either manager will be pleased with the level of quality their teams have shown when they've got into good positions, Motherwell in the first half, Hearts more so in the second half, a lot of crosses, goalkeepers gathering the ball, hitting the first man, you know, well defended, but they're not really being asked many questions, as Talbot go 4-0 up, my upset's coming true.
02:37Well done, Rory.
02:38Yes, so yeah, I did think as the game stretched on, it would become more open, there's no real signs of that, and when there is signs of that, the quality's just not there for them to take advantage of it, so a little bit disappointing overall in terms of the fixture itself, which I was looking forward to.
02:53Just before we move on, there was a spectacular goal line clearance, wasn't there?
02:56There was, yes, it was a Shanklin header at the back post, looked for all its life, it was going in the back of the net, the ball, but right on the line, the defender managed to hook it clear.
03:05Hendry, wasn't it?
03:06It was some goal line clearance.
03:09Yeah, amazing.
03:10I mean, I thought for a second we might have a goal there, but, you know.
03:13We'll wait, there's time yet.
03:14There's time yet, but it's been disappointing so far, from two sides, we all think a lot of.
03:20I think it's been pretty underwhelming.
03:23Yeah, what Rory was referring to there in terms of Auckland, like Talbot 4-0 up, away to Dumbarton in the third round of the Scottish Cup, we asked some of our pundits earlier for their idea of a shock this afternoon, that was Rory's selection.
03:33They're very much in control of that game, Auchinleck, away at Dumbarton.
03:38We'll bounce around the Scottish Cup ties that we're covering on Open All Mics in a few minutes' time, but one other game kicked off in the top flight at 3 o'clock today.
03:45Dundee against St Mirren.
03:46Let's get the latest from Alan Preston.
03:48Well, it's currently Kenny, Dundee 2, St Mirren 1, after an uninspiring 27 minutes, it was St Mirren who took the lead.
03:55Clack Robertson, centre-half for Dundee, was having a poor game up to then, and he tries to find Simon Murray, but his pass is woefully short, goes straight to Mandar, and he runs forward and unleashes a left-foot shot into the bottom corner, gives St Mirren the lead.
04:07But Dundee equalised straight back into it, two minutes later, Jan Dander, I think it's a shot that's going wide, it takes a wicked deflection of Gogets, who's trying to intercept it, not into the back of his own net for a known goal.
04:19And then just before half-time, six minutes in fact, Dre Reip, who's playing left-back, cutting on his right foot, and hit a right-foot shot, which the keeper, Shemal Jaws, should have saved, in my opinion.
04:28He pushes it onto the post and in.
04:30St Mirren have been better in the second half, they're piling on the pressure, but Dundee are defending resolutely.
04:34Could be a massive three points for the home side. Current score, Dundee two, St Mirren one.
04:38Two big games in the bottom half, 5.45 start, but Rugged the Buck.
04:41Unbelievable chance for Motherwell, Kenny.
04:42Right, let's come back to the third party, McCall.
04:44The guys will see in the studios just again, and he's ran through the middle.
04:48Great bit of skill to beat somebody, he's won and won with the goalie as well, and he's got to finish it, he's got to find a corner.
04:53It was a decent save, but it should be 1-0 to Motherwell.
04:56I've seen him a few times, Ian, I think he's got a step up in him.
04:59I mean, that little feint of the shoulder completely sells the defender.
05:01He's going to float over the ground, you know.
05:03It's one of those where your eyes, when you're watching it, actually go the way he's feinting,
05:07and then, you know, he checks back and he's through on goal.
05:10He should really score, to be totally honest with you.
05:13Two big saves that Schwallows made in the half's goal.
05:17It's a poor finish, all the same.
05:19I don't know what goalkeeper's got to come out and make him big, but, you know, he's got the quality to roll it in the corner.
05:24Motherwell should be winning this game.
05:25Well, with the goal line clearance, Hearts will maybe say otherwise, but Elijah just has got to score that.
05:30I talked earlier on in the programme about all of the metrics that Motherwell have improved on from this season to previous 10 seasons.
05:40The conversion rate hasn't really gone up, and there's another example.
05:43That should be a goal.
05:44Yeah, that could be the difference.
05:45In a tight game like that, a few chances.
05:47He's a very, very good chance there for Motherwell.
05:50A great effort, Kenny, sorry, from Faddinger, and Motherwell turning the screw now.
05:54Oh, great save.
05:55It's from about 20 yards, and another great save.
05:58That's a goal at Banks-A-D.
06:00Right, it's a great save by the goalie.
06:01Let's go back to the Scottish Cup, Tyrone Smith, Banks-A-D against Ross County.
06:05Yes, and it's a second goal for Ross County.
06:07It was a corner, it was swung in from the left-hand side.
06:09Jordan White had all the space that he would have wanted, just to choose his spot and plant a header into the back of the net to make it 2-0 now to Ross County.
06:18Remember, they did take the lead after just 18 minutes, a really nice crisp finish by Ronan Hale.
06:24Banks-A-D they have dug in, they've tried to make life awkward for Ross County, but that second goal looks to have knocked the stuffing out of them.
06:31So it's Banks-A-D-0, Ross County 2.
06:33Yeah, a few may have had that down as a potential shock today, but Tony Dockery's side doing the business,
06:37despite a really poor time in the league for them this season.
06:41We'll bounce around the other grounds in the Scottish Cup in a couple of minutes, Tom,
06:44but just to go back to that game that Alan's at at Dents Park,
06:47two games in the bottom half of the table today, 5.45 start, full coverage on BBC Radio Scotland from Rugby Park,
06:53that's Dundee United away at Kilmarnock.
06:57But this game up here today at Dents Park, if Dundee can hang on, this would be a huge victory for them.
07:03It would, because they've been on a lousy run, as of St Mirren,
07:07they haven't been scored many goals at all, they've got two today, they've got their noses in front.
07:14Massive, massive win if they pull it off, and creates more problems for St Mirren,
07:19a team that we feel it should be further up the table, but they're just not.
07:24Right, back to the Scottish Cup, let's get to East Bend Park, Dundee United South, Chris Doolin.
07:31It's 3-1 Dunfermline here, Kenny, Andy Todd breaks down the left-hand side,
07:35and he clips a brilliant ball, his left foot, he just hangs it up to the back post,
07:40the winger comes on off the right-hand side, fires it off the post from about two or three yards,
07:44and it lands at Cassidy's feet, and he's only a yard in, and taps it in,
07:48and as I'm speaking, Kenny, it's been called offside.
07:51The linesman's just pulled the referee over, and he's called it for offside,
07:57so scrap all of that, still 2-1.
08:00Right, but they are in control, Neil Lennon's side there.
08:02Let's stay then in the third round of the Scottish Cup,
08:05let's get to Somerset Park, and a man that loves the Scottish Cup day out,
08:10Ayr United home to Turf United.
08:11Chick Young, what's happening?
08:13I'm going to love a Scottish Cup night, ending up the road sharpish.
08:15This game is just about done and dusted, Kenny.
08:19It's been 2-0 to Ayr United.
08:21They had the luxury of a missed penalty, I don't remember.
08:24Danton Dowd missed that, and then he missed a great chance,
08:27and was subbed, so it's been a great day for him.
08:29Curtis Main scored, Dylan Wattrick scored to give Ayr United a 2-0 lead at half-time,
08:35and they've been very much in command of this game.
08:37I think the referee, who is Lloyd Wilson, should just blow his whistle,
08:41and we can get all the way up the road.
08:42It's all matter-of-fact, and nothing stunning is going to happen here
08:46over and out 2-0 Ayr United.
08:48Right, just before we go to another game, let's get back to Fair Park.
08:50Ian McCall, a free kick for the home side.
08:52Slattery's on it, Elijah just is beside him,
08:55but I think Slattery's going to hit it, he's just got about to take it just now.
08:57Oh, and another magnificent save.
08:59I thought it was a deflection.
09:01Another great save from Swallow in the Hearts goal,
09:04but Bottle are really, really pressing now to get the winner.
09:08That was a good save. He's been a great signing, hasn't he?
09:10Yeah, he done really well, yeah.
09:12Yeah, just got a wee replay coming in here.
09:15It's all Motherwell now.
09:16It is, yeah.
09:17And it was, it was all Hearts briefly, Ian,
09:20but now it's completely flipped.
09:21Yep.
09:22Neither team seem to have that final bit of quality,
09:25and the frustrating thing is,
09:26they've got players on the pitch who have the quality to do it,
09:29it's just every single offensive player
09:31seems to be having an off day in front of goal,
09:32whether it be the colour pass, whether it be the finish.
09:34Right, let's get back to the third round of the Scottish Cup
09:37and head for Starts Park.
09:39Wraith Rovers are home to Alloa Athletic
09:41and get an update from Brian McLaughlin.
09:43Yes, Kenny, eight minutes left,
09:44and it's Wraith Rovers one.
09:45Alloa nil, the only goal coming after 28 minutes.
09:48Jordan Doherty finishing it off.
09:51Excellent work down the right-hand side
09:52by Dylan Easton and Paul McMullen.
09:55A side-foot finish from around 12 yards.
09:57Alloa have been much better, though, in the second period.
10:01They brought on the veteran striker, Colin Salmon,
10:03and he had a great opportunity to equalise,
10:07but his shot ended up in the side netting.
10:09Both sides have made substitutes,
10:12but so far it's still a very narrow 1-0 advantage,
10:16but Alloa throwing everything at the Wraith defence.
10:18Seven minutes left, Wraith one, Alloa nil.
10:20And Brian, you were saying earlier on,
10:22you spoke to the new manager,
10:23didn't you, Duke England before the game,
10:25you said he got a terrific reception up there.
10:27Absolutely magnificent reception.
10:29There's not a big...
10:30Where do you go, Chet?
10:31Yeah, it's not a goal for United, Brian.
10:33I couldn't let you go on there
10:35because it's going to be a matter-of-fact victory.
10:373-0 for them now.
10:39It's a great goal, actually.
10:40The school of Jude Bonner dinking in from the left-hand side.
10:46Yeah, they're good chap with Dougie Emery before the game, Kenny.
10:49Delighted to be here at Stars Park.
10:51He sees a real positivity around this football club.
10:54They're in sixth place at the moment,
10:56but they're only four points off the playoff positions
10:59and they're a real opportunity for Dougie Emery
11:01to possibly take Wraith Rovers into the Premiership,
11:05certainly to make the playoffs anyway.
11:07But it's been a good start so far for Dougie Emery.
11:10They dominated proceedings in the first half.
11:12They really should have had this game out of sight.
11:14But it's just a one-goal advantage.
11:16But Alloa, much better in the second period, as I say.
11:191-0 to Wraith.
11:20So far, six minutes left to play.
11:22It does look, Rory, a good bit of business, doesn't it, from Wraith Rovers?
11:25He's now quite an experienced manager, Dougie Emery.
11:28Yeah, and whilst Wraith Rovers don't have millions to spend, of course,
11:32they probably do have more available to Dougie Emery than Morton had.
11:37And he's shown that he's capable of competing.
11:40And Morton's goal, yes, they will probably look to make the playoffs,
11:43but I don't know if they would be expected to from the outside.
11:46Wraith Rovers are.
11:47So it'll be interesting to see how he deals with that step up.
11:49Maybe a little bit more funds available to him
11:51in terms of wages available to players
11:52and who he recruits in January.
11:55But I think it's a shrewd bit of business.
11:56Right, in the Scottish Cup,
11:58Edinburgh City have equalised the way it came.
11:59Lund Juniors, Lewis MacArthur with that goal there.
12:02One apiece, 81 minutes, that goal coming.
12:05Let's get back to the top flight in that game at Dens Park.
12:08We spoke about the magnitude of this one.
12:10Alan Preston, it was a real setback, of course.
12:12So it was a terrible goal for Dundee to lose on the 27th minute.
12:17But they fought back an own goal from Gogic
12:19and then Dre Wright on 39 minutes.
12:21If they can hang on, would it be good value for that, Alan?
12:24It's been a close game.
12:26Dundee have defended better, clearly.
12:28Apart from that mistake from Robertson in the first half.
12:31But St Mirren just not done enough, Kenny.
12:32And this result stays the same.
12:34It's Dundee leapfrog St Mirren.
12:36And they're going into a cup final.
12:38This will be one in eight if they lose this one today.
12:41And they're picking up bookings now as well.
12:43But we're, what, into the last five minutes to go,
12:46plus whatever is added on.
12:47I've got to say, Dre Wright has been brilliant for them.
12:49Playing left-back, then right-back.
12:51Scored the second goal, being excellent for Dundee.
12:54But Stephen Presley is desperate for this result.
12:57Yeah, no doubt at all about that, Rory.
13:00We spoke again before kick-off there of the size of this game today.
13:04It's been a really disappointing run for St Mirren, the league.
13:06Of course, they're through to a League Cup final.
13:08They'll have to look forward to in December.
13:11So both sides with their struggles.
13:13But you just feel, in particular, Stephen Presley,
13:15wasn't the most popular appointment.
13:17He really needs this.
13:18Yeah, I think it was the circumstances which, you know, he came in.
13:21I don't think the dismissal of Tony Daugherty was a...
13:24It would have been a section of supporters, possibly.
13:26But I think, in the main, it was seen as a surprise.
13:29I don't think supporters were overly keen to see him leave the club.
13:33So he was up against it straight away.
13:34Stephen Presley's through no fault of his own.
13:37And he's come in and he's recruited.
13:39And it's taken a little bit of time for some of the players he's signed to hit the ground.
13:42Congreve has.
13:44Today will be big.
13:45But a lot of these games between these clubs involve last-minute goals.
13:49So they just need to stay concentrated for the next five or six minutes.
13:52Get the three points.
13:53And get up the road.
13:54Or say up the road.
13:55They're at home.
13:56Get home.
13:56What chance.
13:57A late goal at Fir Park.
13:59Ian McCall is there for us.
14:01The league leaders, Hearts, are we at Mothal, who have been absolutely flying in recent weeks.
14:04Last we were with you, Ian.
14:05The home side piling on the pressure.
14:07They still were.
14:08They had Hearts penned in for five, ten minutes.
14:12They're still pressing really, really high up the pitch.
14:14And they've had two or three good chances.
14:16Elijah Just had two chances.
14:17Who, incidentally, Elijah Just, he can play.
14:20He really can play.
14:21He's had two great chances.
14:23Other than that, you know, Hearts haven't really offered anything in the last ten, fifteen minutes.
14:28And it's Mothal that are really, really pressing for the winner.
14:30And Hearts look as if...
14:32Oh, it looks like that's it.
14:34Wrapped up by Dundee.
14:36It's a brilliant hit.
14:38Wow.
14:39I think it's...
14:39Was it Wesley?
14:40I think it is.
14:40Oh, it's a huge...
14:41Wesley in that position again, Alan.
14:42What a hit that is.
14:44Great goal.
14:45Smashed it from one end of the box.
14:47Into the far corner.
14:48Giving Shamal George absolutely no chance.
14:51At Miriam fans are on their way home.
14:53Dundee looks like they're getting a much-needed three points.
14:56What a goal.
14:573-1 Dundee.
14:58It's no time at Somerset Park.
15:00Kenny United cruising through.
15:02Three goals to nil plus a miss.
15:04Penalty kick.
15:05It's there.
15:05Three.
15:06Turf nil.
15:06Right, thanks to Chick.
15:07So we just had a wee look again at that goal up there at Denz.
15:10It was special, Rory.
15:11Yeah, it was good.
15:12He picked up a nice position again, just on the left-hand side of the area.
15:16Takes a touch inside and, you know, opens his foot up.
15:18Finds the far corner.
15:20Did say Austin in these games was light goals.
15:22Well, it's went the right way of Dundee from their perspective.
15:25Give the ball away in the pitch.
15:26St. Martin's a good press.
15:27The ball's played out to the left-hand side.
15:30Outside of the right boot.
15:31Touch inside.
15:32Inside of the right boot.
15:33Into the far corner.
15:34Game-setting match.
15:353-1.
15:36Yeah, another sore one for St. Martin.
15:38Tom, it was a late, late defeat, of course.
15:39A home to Celtic last Saturday evening.
15:42The cup aside, it's been pretty desperate in recent weeks for Steven Robinson's team.
15:46It has, yeah.
15:47I mean, again, conceding goals.
15:48I think they've lost their mojo.
15:51Consider it.
15:52You know, that's a lovely strike from Wesley.
15:55With 3-1.
15:56And pretty emphatic for Dundee.
15:58St. Martin.
15:59I mean, that's one winning eighth now.
16:02Down to tenth in the table, I think.
16:04They've got a lot of problems to fix here.
16:06Cup final of Fortnite tomorrow.
16:08Yeah, they're going into that on the back of a horrendous run.
16:11Comarnic get a point tonight.
16:12They're in the playoff spot, St. Martin.
16:14Yeah, like, it's fair play to Dundee.
16:17You know, they've scored, I think, nine goals in 13 games coming into this today.
16:21And they've scored three in one game.
16:23I mean, that was one thing I did not see coming.
16:25They've scored three goals.
16:26I said last week, Dundee, one of these teams that people are predictable down,
16:29but they seem to be able to pull an iron out the fire.
16:32And a lot of people say you'd rather lose a couple and then win one
16:35and then lose three to win a couple than pick up constant draws.
16:38What a chance to win, well, chances to win this game.
16:41Kenny, the boys have been talking with a lot of action going on,
16:44and I'm telling you, St. John's have had three chances to win it,
16:47and then Cove nearly nicked it with a minute to go.
16:50Aguero, the substitute, it was poor play from St. John's,
16:53gave it away on the edge of the box.
16:54He's one and one with the goalkeeper.
16:5613 yards, and he just reverses it.
16:59The goalkeeper brings off a great save.
17:00Should have scored.
17:01St. John's from McPake, Gullin, fathering them all.
17:05Pep on the goal, they can't win it.
17:06But there's some finish to this game.
17:08Both teams trying for a winner, wide open.
17:10Yeah, and Billy, we should give a lot of credit to Cove.
17:12Oh, here is my pick.
17:14Oh, he's overrun it.
17:15Oh, my word.
17:18You can hear the natives.
17:19They're not happy with the performance.
17:21And it's been a really tough season for Cove.
17:23He's struggled to even fill the bench, hasn't he?
17:24Paul Hartley, this would be amazing.
17:26Even just getting this one to extra time and penalties
17:29would be some achievement.
17:30Yeah, Stuart and Maguire's changed it.
17:31They've given that a bit of experience,
17:33but they've shown a real experience on the ball,
17:38just keeping it and believing that they can play at this level
17:40and still just showing that they've still got a bit to offer.
17:44And it's changed the game for Cove
17:46and then obviously Megginson getting the goal,
17:48but it's been wide open.
17:49Yeah, Saints probably should have gone on and won it,
17:51but my word, Cove had that.
17:53They had the best chance to win it
17:54and it's still ongoing, Kenny.
17:56Right, full time in the cup.
17:57Airdrie, four.
17:58Hamilton, Aki's nil.
17:59Bemberg, nil.
18:01Montrose, three.
18:01Let's get back to that big, big game then
18:03at Fair Park.
18:05The Zathun deep into the closing stages.
18:07Ian McCall is there for us.
18:10Any sign of a winner, Ian?
18:11There isn't really, Kenny,
18:12although it hasn't been a great game
18:15because both the boxes haven't been used enough.
18:18But you can send me a watch Motherwell again, though,
18:20because they are exciting to watch.
18:22I don't think there's any doubt about that.
18:23They've had the two best chances of the game.
18:25Lawrence Shankler had a good header.
18:28Really athletically cleared off the line by Hendry.
18:30But the two best chances of the game
18:31were Elijah Juss,
18:33who looks like he's a key man for Motherwell.
18:35But they were both,
18:36for me, they were coming at the center of the variety.
18:38One was ahead.
18:39All the pace was on the cross.
18:41Just had to direct it in the corner.
18:42Another one was a great bit of skill
18:43by the same player,
18:45but created a one-on-one with the goalie
18:46and just hit the goalie with it
18:48rather than slide it past them.
18:50So, listen, it's not a great game,
18:52but you can tell they're two good sides.
18:54Ian, you've consistently said
18:56that it just feels different this season
18:57when it comes to Hearts.
18:58Full-time, 1-1 here at McDermott.
19:00So, you're coming away from that game today
19:02and you're saying,
19:03you know, you can send me to watch Motherwell again,
19:04which kind of stood out to me,
19:06not Hearts.
19:06Yeah, yeah.
19:07The only thing I'll say is
19:08if this finishes...
19:09Full-time at Bank City,
19:102-0 Ross County.
19:11If it finishes 0-0,
19:12I'm not sure.
19:13I think Derek McInnes,
19:14if they beat Kamarnock on Wednesday night,
19:16I think they'll take the four points out of six.
19:17But it's not done yet.
19:18Here's Motherwell on the attack.
19:20So, your feeling when it comes to Hearts
19:22hasn't changed, Ian,
19:22based on the last five or six games?
19:24No, I think...
19:24No, listen, I'm not saying they'll win it,
19:26but I don't think they'll go away.
19:28I don't think it'll be like an Aberdeen
19:29in the last season.
19:31No, I don't think they'll be like an Aberdeen
19:34and totally collapse.
19:35I just don't think that'll happen.
19:36I mean, Tom, you were saying earlier on
19:37that we're going to learn a lot about Hearts
19:39this afternoon.
19:40You're off the bat with a couple of poor results.
19:42They've been very much in this game.
19:43They've had their spell
19:44probably at the start of the second half.
19:46They have the whole fire now.
19:47Derek McInnes,
19:48happy to leave there with a point.
19:49Right, one second.
19:50Let's get back to Dents Park.
19:52Alan Preston.
19:53Oh, it's a hit.
19:54Decent enough hit as well from Iunga.
19:56Bob's played to him at the edge of the box.
19:57Left foot shot,
19:58smashes off the bar
19:59in a way.
20:00Bounces out.
20:01Still 3-1 to Dundee.
20:02We're into four added on minutes.
20:04Back to the Scottish Cup.
20:054-0.
20:05Partick Thistle to Alex Samuel
20:07in the 93rd minute.
20:08Tom, just back to Hearts.
20:10Yeah, I think he'd be happy
20:12with the point with the way the game has gone
20:14because Hearts haven't really played
20:15anywhere near their level of earlier on in the season.
20:18So he'd be grateful for a point,
20:20I think.
20:21But I think he's going to be really disappointed
20:22by his team's performance here.
20:25You haven't really fired a shot in the game.
20:27I mean, that's true,
20:27but historically,
20:28Motherwell is one of the really,
20:29really tough grounds to come from
20:30to come and get a result.
20:32And if the...
20:33You know,
20:34everybody has said this season
20:35this is the best team
20:36Motherwell's had for years.
20:37So therefore,
20:37it's an even tougher ground
20:38to come and get a result.
20:39It is, absolutely.
20:41But if it's one win in five now,
20:44you know,
20:45it's on the back of that,
20:46Ian, you know.
20:48Tom,
20:48you were adamant
20:49it would be top two Hearts,
20:50what do you think now?
20:50You still think top two?
20:51I know you and Billy
20:52had a bit of a discussion.
20:53I still think top two.
20:55I do because
20:56I think Rangers are all over the place.
20:58Celtic are beginning
20:59to get it together now,
21:00but then you've got the uncertainty
21:01of the new manager coming in.
21:02Martin O'Neill has turned that around
21:03and he's got them pointing
21:04in the right direction now.
21:06So I think Celtic will be fine
21:07and we'll probably win the league.
21:10But I don't think Hearts
21:11are going to go away.
21:12But this,
21:13it's the ineffectiveness
21:14of the,
21:14of the,
21:15of Cursarita's Shankland
21:17and Braga.
21:18That's,
21:18that's,
21:19that's kind of concerning
21:20for me a little bit.
21:21They haven't been in this game.
21:22Tom, we're talking about,
21:22we're talking about
21:22stats are the same one win in five.
21:24It's one defeat in 14.
21:26Yeah, I know.
21:26It's whatever way you want
21:27to paint the stats.
21:28It is.
21:28And that's what you're doing,
21:29you know.
21:30Yeah, it is.
21:30You're painting a negative.
21:31It's one defeat in 14.
21:33Full time in Fort Park
21:35it finishes nil-nil.
21:36I'm looking at it.
21:37It's one defeat in 14.
21:38I'm looking at it
21:38from the context of
21:39can they win the league
21:40and one win in five
21:42in the context of
21:42can they win the league.
21:43Realistic.
21:44No one's won the league
21:44apart from Celtic and Rangers
21:45in 40 years.
21:46Is this not what we've been
21:47talking about for weeks?
21:49Can they win the league?
21:50And what's the answer
21:51been from everybody?
21:52Well,
21:53I think the answer
21:53has been a bit mixed.
21:54They can.
21:55They probably won't.
21:56Well,
21:56Ian McCall said
21:57it just felt a bit different
21:58this season,
21:58for example.
21:59I think he said
22:00he's won the league.
22:01I'm not,
22:01listen,
22:01I'm not,
22:01I'm not down on hearts,
22:03biscuits.
22:04I'm just saying
22:05one win in five
22:06is not great
22:07for Derek McInnes.
22:08I don't think
22:09Derek McInnes
22:09is going to be
22:10jumping up and down
22:11with this performance
22:13today.
22:13Full time at East End Park,
22:14can he?
22:14Dunfermline two,
22:15Queen of the South one.
22:16Full time starts back.
22:17Wraith Rovers one,
22:18Alwanil.
22:19Thanks to Brian.
22:19We'll do a class
22:20for you shortly.
22:20I think hearts are better
22:22than the performance
22:22than we saw today.
22:24And I know they're
22:25playing up against
22:25a good team,
22:26absolutely.
22:27But their front guys,
22:28the guys who've been
22:29causing such damage
22:30this season,
22:31weren't really in this game
22:32at all.
22:33And that is disappointing.
22:34And forget about stats.
22:35Oh, good save.
22:36That's a fact.
22:36It's a disappointing performance.
22:38Right, Peterhead two,
22:39Green at Morton two,
22:39Ciaran Shanks,
22:40the equaliser there
22:41in the 95th minute.
22:42Also in the Scottish Cup,
22:43Elders City,
22:44the equaliser home to
22:45Stirling Albion
22:45in the 96th minute.
22:46Yes, Alan Preston.
22:47Dundee three,
22:48St Mirren one full time.
22:49Massive three points
22:50for the home side.
22:51Yes, certainly is.
22:52We'll do the table
22:53as well for you
22:54in a few minutes' time.
22:55But that win moves
22:56Dundee up to ninth
22:57in the table.
22:58They are above
22:59St Mirren there.
23:00Let's get back
23:01to Ian McCall.
23:02There seems to be
23:03some things happening
23:03in the park there
23:04towards the end of the game.
23:05Are you in a bit of friction?
23:06Yeah, listen,
23:07if you were here, Kenny,
23:09you'd have made a huge deal
23:10about it now.
23:10We'd be in the back
23:11of the Sunday Mail tomorrow.
23:12But I think it was
23:13Massonisi was unhappy
23:14about something,
23:15but it's absolutely fine now.
23:16Motherwell fans
23:17are going to clap
23:18their own fans.
23:19Hearts fans
23:20are going to clap
23:21their own fans.
23:22And I think
23:22tomorrow morning,
23:23although it wasn't a classic,
23:25I'm not sure both managers
23:26wouldn't be too unhappy
23:27with the draw.
23:28I mean, personally,
23:29I wish we had done
23:29two or three goals
23:30for either side
23:31or whatever,
23:32but Motherwell are a good side
23:34and they will progress
23:35into the top six,
23:36I'd imagine,
23:36and I don't think
23:37Hearts are going anywhere.
23:38Saeed does raise his hand
23:40and push Devlin
23:41in the throat,
23:42so it'll be interesting
23:42to see if there's
23:43any repercussions
23:43when it comes to that
23:44as Derek McInnes
23:45seems a bit unhappy.
23:45Yeah, Derek McInnes
23:46seems to be
23:47pointing up at the stand
23:48or something or other.
23:49Yeah, something's
23:50happened there.
23:51Derek McInnes
23:51was speaking to
23:52a security lead there
23:54and he was pointing up
23:55towards the stand.
23:56Or maybe something
23:57somebody shouted,
23:57I don't know.
23:58Somebody had shouted
24:00it's only one,
24:00one and five
24:01and he went,
24:01well, it's actually
24:02one defeat.
24:05Very good, Rory.
24:06Nice, Rory.
24:06Been a good bond today.
24:08So now look to a late winner
24:09at home to Clive
24:10and Ryan Edgar
24:11on 91 Minutes Air.
24:13Ian, just before we
24:14leave you for now,
24:16it's interesting
24:17because I covered
24:18the game on Tuesday night
24:19when Motherwell
24:19were fantastic
24:20against Hebs.
24:20Lee Miller, Scott Allen,
24:21their first time
24:22watching Motherwell
24:23that night,
24:24raving about them.
24:25They could kind of see
24:25what all the fuss
24:26has been about
24:26and you feel
24:27something similar today.
24:29Yeah, I mean,
24:30I wouldn't go as far
24:30as the boys were saying
24:32after listening to them,
24:34but yeah,
24:35I mean,
24:35they're a good side
24:36and if any team
24:37deserved to win the game,
24:39it was Motherwell
24:41just because of
24:41the two great chances
24:43they had in the second half.
24:44It's quite clear
24:44they want teams
24:45to try and come on to them,
24:46they want teams
24:47to try and high-press them
24:49because they want
24:49to play through that,
24:50they want to release
24:50full-backs
24:51through that high-press.
24:53They're too cold
24:55and you'd say
24:56central midfielders,
24:57there's almost as if
24:58there's a 20-yard
24:59bit of string
24:59beside them
25:00because they never,
25:01ever are further apart
25:02than that,
25:02which gives them
25:03a good balance.
25:05And you know,
25:05ultimately they've got
25:05a lot of good players
25:06that are comfortable
25:07with the ball
25:07and as I said
25:08in the commentary,
25:09they've got real pace
25:11but I think
25:11their pace comes
25:12in the amount
25:13they pass the ball
25:14and the pace
25:15they pass the ball.
25:16They've got one or two
25:17flying,
25:18you know,
25:19Masvinisi is really,
25:21really quick
25:21but they're very,
25:22very fluent
25:22when they pass the ball
25:23and I think sometimes
25:24when you move the ball
25:25quickly,
25:25you look like a quick team
25:27and it doesn't necessarily
25:28mean you've got quick players
25:29but listen,
25:30they're a good watch.
25:31You can understand
25:32why everybody's
25:33astounded about them.
25:34Listen,
25:35they won't go away.
25:36They seem to have
25:37a really good squad.
25:38They made four or five
25:39changes today,
25:39they made five in midweek
25:40so they'll certainly
25:42be up there
25:42in and around
25:43the top six
25:44and that,
25:44you know,
25:45as for Hearts,
25:45I don't think
25:46they played very well.
25:47They'll be very happy
25:48the two centre-backs
25:49came back
25:50and they kept
25:50a clean sheet.
25:51You know,
25:52half-time,
25:53Motherwell were the better
25:54team in the first half
25:54but they didn't,
25:55they had no chances
25:56apart from the offside goal.
25:57They just,
25:58the goalkeeper wasn't tested.
26:00Second half
26:00for the last 15,
26:0120 minutes
26:02after we felt Hearts
26:03were really trying
26:03to start to turn the screw,
26:05Motherwell could have
26:06went and won it
26:06and they took
26:07a couple of great chances.
26:08The goals had two
26:08or three really good saves
26:09so any team deserved
26:11to win it was probably
26:11Motherwell.
26:12Hearts will probably
26:13be happy with a point.
26:14Yeah,
26:14we'll get more details.
26:15We'll go around the grounds.
26:16We've got a commentary team
26:17there alongside Ian as well.
26:18There was that option today.
26:19Remember,
26:20there's a 5.45 commentary
26:21to come on BBC Radio Scotland
26:24and again,
26:24it's at the bottom
26:25of the table.
26:25It's a big,
26:26big game there tonight.
26:28That is Kilmarnock
26:28at home to Dundee United.
26:30We'll have a look
26:31at the significance
26:32of these two
26:32three o'clock games
26:33in terms of the
26:34Premiership table
26:35but right now
26:36we'll do the classified

28:37late winner for
28:38Manchester City,
28:393-2 up at home
28:40to Leeds United,
28:41also 3-2 for
28:42Sunderland at home
28:43to Bournemouth,
28:44they've fought back
28:45in that game,
28:465.30 start,
28:47Everton at home
28:48to Newcastle United,
28:508 o'clock Tottenham Hotspur
28:51are at home to
28:52Fulham,
28:53so let's have a look
28:54then at the
28:55Premiership table
28:56after these two games
28:57that kicked off at
28:583 o'clock this
28:59afternoon and there is
29:00definite movement,
29:01so Hearts,
29:02they are still top of
29:04the table on 31 points
29:05after their draw today,
29:07Celtic have two games
29:08in hand,
29:09they are five points
29:10behind,
29:10they of course play
29:11tomorrow,
29:12Motherwell are up to
29:13third in the table,
29:15overtaking Hibs,
29:16Hibs though are in
29:17action tomorrow,
29:17so Motherwell on
29:1922 points and
29:21just looking then
29:22at the bottom half
29:23of the table,
29:23so Dundee United,
29:24they are seventh,
29:25they play this evening,
29:265.45 down at Rugby Park,
29:28Aberdeen,
29:28they are in eighth,
29:29they play tomorrow,
29:30and Dundee,
29:31what a win for
29:31Stephen Presley's side,
29:33we'll hopefully hear
29:33from him just shortly,
29:34they are up to ninth
29:35on the table,
29:36they are in 12 points,
29:37sitting there in a
29:38really worrying run of
29:39form for Stephen
29:40Robinson's side,
29:41they are in 10 points
29:42as our Kilmarnock,
29:43they kick off
29:43at 5.45,
29:45Livy bottom of the
29:46table on 8 points,
29:47but it's very,
29:47very tight,
29:48again Livingston
29:49in action tomorrow,
29:50they are at home
29:51to Aberdeen,
29:52so let's then get
29:53a wee bit more detail
29:54on what we've covered
29:55on Sportsound this afternoon,
29:57let's get to our
29:57commentary team then
29:58at that game,
30:00that fair part,
30:01Motherwell at home
30:02to Hearts,
30:02we have the thoughts
30:03of Ian McCaul,
30:04he covered that match
30:04for us on Open All Mics,
30:06let's now hear from
30:07our commentary team
30:08of Ryan Stevenson
30:09and Alistair Lammond.
30:10Yeah,
30:10it did finish 0-0,
30:12but I don't think
30:13that really encapsulates
30:15what happened here,
30:16Motherwell were certainly
30:17the better side
30:18in the first half
30:19and arguably
30:20should have been ahead,
30:21they did have the ball
30:22in the back of the net
30:22after 24 minutes
30:24when Elliot Watt
30:25clipped the ball in
30:26and Hendry got a touch
30:28to take it past
30:28Alexander Schvolo,
30:29but after a VAR check
30:31that was ruled out
30:32for offside.
30:34So Motherwell
30:34certainly on top
30:35first half,
30:36Hearts didn't really
30:37get going in that
30:38first period
30:38but came out second half
30:40much better
30:40and actually came close
30:42to taking the lead
30:43just a few minutes
30:43into the second period
30:45when Kisaridis
30:46came in on his right foot,
30:47had a shot
30:47from the edge of the area
30:48that was deflected,
30:50it wrong-footed
30:50Callum Ward
30:51but fortunately for the
30:52Motherwell keeper
30:53it went the other side,
30:54the wrong side of the post
30:55as far as Kisaridis
30:56was concerned,
30:58it became a lot more
30:59end-to-end actually,
31:00a far more even
31:01and two-and-throwing
31:02second half
31:03as Motherwell
31:04continued to threaten
31:06and just had a header
31:08at the back post
31:09from a Maswanisi cross
31:10that he probably
31:10should have done better
31:11than head straight
31:12at the keeper.
31:14At the other end,
31:14Shankland came closest
31:16to scoring
31:16four hearts
31:17in 63 minutes,
31:18the ball was
31:19into the area,
31:20Shankland with a looping header
31:21as we've seen so many times
31:23from the back post
31:24back across goal
31:25and it looked like
31:26it was heading into
31:27the back of the net
31:28but there was Callum Hendry
31:29back doing the defensive duties
31:30to somehow
31:31hook it off the line.
31:33Maswanisi went up
31:33the other end
31:34and had the ball
31:35in the net
31:35again for Motherwell
31:36but he was clearly
31:37offside
31:38on that occasion.
31:39Motherwell again
31:40as they had started the game
31:41finished it
31:42the stronger side
31:43and forced
31:44fall off into
31:45by my reckoning
31:46three really good saves
31:48it just was denied
31:49after a good move
31:50but again
31:51he had it probably
31:51too close to the keeper
31:52Slattery's free kick
31:54was deflected
31:55and it was well saved
31:56as well by Svalov
31:57and there was another one
31:58which I can't even remember
31:59what it was now
31:59but I remember
32:00there being a third
32:01good save from Svalov
32:03towards the end
32:04and so
32:06the fact that it was
32:07goalless
32:07doesn't really tell
32:08the story at all.
32:10Ryan it ended up
32:11being a good watch
32:13but Motherwell
32:14probably a little bit
32:15aggrieved that they
32:15didn't take all three points.
32:17Yeah I would think so
32:18I think obviously
32:19first half
32:20they were dominant
32:21but never really
32:22carved opening
32:23and clear cut
32:24so I think
32:24they were done
32:24at half time
32:25and went
32:25can we create
32:26some more chances
32:27in the second half
32:28can we keep it going
32:29second half started
32:30and I think
32:31Hart started
32:31really well
32:33as Colley was saying
32:34they probably had
32:34about 30 minutes
32:3635 minutes
32:37where they were
32:37the better team
32:39without really playing
32:40really really well
32:42but just sort of
32:42with strength
32:43and brutally
32:43sort of dominated
32:44and then the last
32:4615 minutes
32:46I think
32:47as we said
32:49Eli just
32:49then got himself
32:50really into the game
32:51and everything
32:52was going through him
32:53and the chances
32:54that Motherwell
32:55had in the last
32:5615 or so minutes
32:58I think when they
32:59look back on the game
33:00they'll be pretty
33:00disappointed
33:01that they've not
33:01managed to
33:02get at least one goal
33:04and I think
33:05Hartz will go back
33:06up the road
33:06to Edinburgh
33:06saying you know what
33:07we'll take the point
33:08and we'll move on.
33:10Yeah I think so
33:10Motherwell now
33:11unbeaten in six
33:12Hartz
33:13has just won one
33:14in five
33:15but they do continue
33:16of course
33:16at the top of the table
33:180-0 here
33:18Thanks to the guys
33:20there at Fair Park
33:20we'll get to Dens Park
33:21a huge result
33:22for the home side
33:23there we'll get there
33:23in a couple of minutes
33:24time but let's return
33:25to the third round
33:26of the Scottish Cup
33:27and get to McDermott
33:28Parts and Johnson
33:29against Cove Rangers
33:30Billy Dodds a goal
33:31Yeah and it's a shot
33:32goal Kenny
33:33I mean St Johnson
33:34by pressing again
33:35but then
33:36they broke Cove Rangers
33:38and it was a mistake
33:39from Fogues
33:40he went to control
33:41it was under his foot
33:42and then Emsley
33:42goes through and go
33:43you think he's gone
33:44a little bit wide
33:45he hits the shot
33:45and the goalkeeper
33:47Toby Stewart
33:47it kind of goes
33:48through him
33:49and into the net
33:49and it's a shock
33:51scoreline so far
33:52it's St Johnstone
33:53one
33:53top of the championship
33:54as well
33:55Cove Rangers two
33:56That is a proper shock
33:58that
33:58Wow
33:58I mean they've been up
33:59against it all season
34:00haven't they
34:01we know they're big issues
34:01with that football club
34:02Paul Hartley struggled
34:03to fill a bench
34:04week in week out
34:05they're struggling
34:06in league one
34:06if they can get
34:08the win today
34:08and potentially
34:09a great draw
34:10in the next round
34:11the implications
34:12of that football club
34:12could be huge
34:13Yeah I mean
34:14with the signings
34:14they're talking about
34:15I know they're a bit
34:16older in age
34:16but I know Paul Hartley
34:17has a really strong
34:19and good relationship
34:19with Greg Stewart
34:20who's a wonderful talent
34:21you know he's getting
34:23on a bit now
34:23in terms of his age
34:24you won't thank me
34:24for saying that
34:25but he is
34:25but he's got
34:26you know his brain
34:27will still be the same
34:28his deftness of touch
34:30and his intelligence
34:31will still be the same
34:32so if they can pick up
34:32that win today
34:33I don't think anyone
34:34you're going around
34:35every pundit in the country
34:36don't think anyone
34:38would have highlighted
34:38that game for a Cove win
34:39not at all
34:40but still time to go
34:41in that game
34:41there in Texas
34:42Yeah Billy
34:43Just hit the post
34:44I think it's Jack Baird
34:45out swinging corner
34:46wins ahead
34:47and it just sails
34:48over the goalkeeper
34:50the Cove Rangers
34:51defenders
34:52and just comes off
34:53the right hand post
34:54so luck not going
34:55their way either
34:56Yeah you'd imagine
34:57that St Johnson
34:58will pile the pressure
34:58on late on
35:00in that game
35:00Billy will keep us
35:01fully in form
35:02we'll go around
35:02the other grounds
35:02for you
35:03just wrap up
35:03the full time scores
35:05then we'll cross
35:06to Rugby Park
35:06to get the team
35:07usually ahead of that
35:075.45 start
35:09so let's then get back
35:10to Alan Preston
35:11at Dens Park
35:12a terrific win
35:13for the home side
35:14there this afternoon
35:15Alan
35:15was it deserved?
35:17I think in the end
35:18it was Kenny
35:19yes it just didn't
35:19quite do enough
35:20in that second half
35:21they had more shots
35:22more possession
35:22in the first half
35:23but didn't convert them
35:24and in the second half
35:26they were not as good
35:27and you've got to say
35:29they actually took the lead
35:29in 27 minutes
35:30it was Clark Robertson
35:31in the Dundee centre half
35:32he's looking for Simon Murray
35:33it's a really poor decision
35:34poor pass as well
35:35the ball goes straight
35:36to Mandron
35:37and his left foot shot
35:38from 18 yards
35:39found the bottom corner
35:40but Dundee equalised
35:41two minutes later
35:42and I think it's a bit of fortune
35:43and Jan Dander gets the ball
35:4425 yards out
35:45on the wide area
35:46hits a shot
35:48but for me it looked like
35:49it was going wide
35:49but Gogets tries to get in the way
35:51and it deflects off him
35:52into the back of the net
35:53then in 39 minutes
35:55the man of the match
35:56Dre Wright
35:56he was magnificent
35:57played left back
35:58cut inside on his right foot
35:59and unleashed a really good shot
36:00with his right foot
36:01but the keeper
36:02Jamal George
36:03has to do better
36:03he gets two hands to it
36:04and pushes it in
36:05off his own post
36:06that was the score
36:07at half time
36:082-1
36:08but it was 3-1
36:09in 87 minutes
36:10with Wesley
36:11again this was a goal
36:12the afternoon
36:13he's on the left hand side
36:14he cuts
36:14looks up
36:15he cuts inside
36:15and unleashes a right foot
36:17unstoppable shot
36:17into the back of the net
36:18for 3-1
36:19Ayunga then
36:20hits the bar
36:21for St Mirren
36:21almost made it 3-2
36:22but it simply
36:23didn't quite do enough
36:24Dundee up to 9th
36:25and 12th points
36:26St Mirren
36:26two weeks away
36:27from a cup final
36:28in a really bad place
36:291-1 in 8
36:30final score at Dens
36:32Dundee 3
36:33St Mirren 1
36:34thanks to Alan there
36:34at Dens Park
36:35but Rory
36:36you know
36:36the narrative is
36:37St Mirren are a decent team
36:39been a bit unlucky
36:40in recent weeks
36:41Dundee have not had
36:42a lot of praise
36:42albeit the terrific result
36:43of course at home
36:44to Selte
36:45if you look at things now
36:47they're above
36:47St Mirren in the table
36:49we know it's very congested
36:50in there
36:50Dundee United
36:51they kick off at 5.45
36:5214 points
36:53in 7
36:54Livingston
36:54bottom of the table
36:55at 8 points
36:56they play tomorrow
36:57but it's really tight
36:57they're 14-14
36:5812 for Dundee
37:0010 for St Mirren
37:0110 for Kilmarnock
37:02it's just the psychological
37:04effect of this game
37:05they've got to kick on now
37:07yes they do
37:09Dundee
37:09yes they do
37:10you're right
37:11they've struggled
37:12to back these types
37:13of victories up
37:14with even a draw
37:15if you're a Dundee
37:16you know
37:17moving forward
37:18they've followed up wins
37:20with back to back
37:22defeats at times
37:232-3 defeats
37:23on the bounce at times
37:24they need to be able to
37:26now that they've won that game
37:27because these games can be
37:28just as tricky
37:30as your Celtic
37:30and Rangers games
37:31because there's a level
37:32of expectation
37:32to go and win the match
37:34they've managed to do that today
37:36and ultimately
37:37they deserve to win the game
37:38St Mirren had a
37:39you know
37:39periods of pressure
37:40where they loaded the box
37:42and got it in
37:42Stephen Robinson
37:43won't like me for saying that
37:44however it's accurate
37:45on today's viewing
37:46so Dundee will be looking
37:48to the next few games
37:49and going right
37:50let's get ourselves
37:51up the league
37:51let's not be looking
37:52over our shoulders
37:53constantly
37:53let's try and get
37:55this win to propel us
37:56into
37:57you know
37:58they were in the top 6
37:59not long ago
37:59there's no reason why
38:00they can't try and get
38:01a couple of wins
38:01and get there again
38:02as for St Mirren
38:03well
38:04I think he's been
38:06through this period
38:06maybe once before
38:07in his St Mirren career
38:08where he
38:08I don't know if it was
38:09quite as poor as this
38:10where they struggled
38:10but I have to say
38:12you know
38:13cliches
38:14credit in the bank
38:15well
38:15if it's credit in the bank
38:16you're after Stephen
38:17Robinson's worth a fortune
38:18and I still think
38:19he's more than capable
38:20of finishing
38:21the league strongly
38:23yeah
38:24I mean
38:25they're going to have
38:26to figure out
38:26how to stop
38:27conceding so many goals
38:29I mean
38:29they're goals
38:29again
38:30it's untypical
38:31of St Mirren
38:32isn't it
38:32but they have become
38:33weak
38:34real vulnerability
38:35at the back
38:35there
38:36you know
38:37three goals
38:37today
38:38you look at
38:39all the goals
38:402-1-3-2-4
38:42sorry
38:431-3-1-3
38:45all conceded
38:45in the last
38:467 or 8 games
38:47it's not like them
38:49they need to get back
38:51to being stingy
38:51being physical
38:52being very very hard
38:53to beat
38:54because that was
38:54the bedrock
38:55of Stephen Robinson's
38:56success so far
38:57we'll hear from
38:57both managers
38:58hopefully we'll hear
38:59from the managers
39:00as well
39:00after that game
39:01at Fair Park
39:02you can hear the game
39:03going on in the background
39:03that's the game
39:04at Budermit Park
39:05Billy will keep us
39:05fully informed
39:06of anything that
39:07develops in that one
39:08as things stand
39:08in extra times
39:09in Johnson 1
39:10Cove
39:11Rangers 2
39:12so let's get to the game
39:13down at Somerset Park
39:14Area United
39:15at home
39:16to Turriff United
39:17Chick Young
39:17a fairly comfortable
39:18afternoon for the home side
39:19yeah I would say
39:20as a matter of fact
39:22progression to the next
39:23sound of the Scottish Cup
39:24as you could possibly get
39:25there was no fuss
39:26for Area United
39:27in fact they had the luxury
39:28of missing a penalty kick
39:29earlier on
39:30Anton Dowdes
39:31of all people
39:32missed that
39:32and he actually missed
39:33a very good chance
39:34in the wake of that
39:35and was substituted
39:36so good day for him
39:37but it was all put to rights
39:39mainly in the first half
39:40Curtis Main
39:41put Area United
39:42ahead
39:43and then Dylan Watford
39:44scored a second
39:45and I have to say
39:46United Area United
39:47that is an easy street
39:48a half time
39:49Don Thomas added one
39:52late on in the game
39:53to make it 3-0
39:54a brave performance
39:56by Turriff United
39:57they came down
39:58to Ayrshire
39:59this afternoon
40:00and they never really
40:02got themselves into it
40:02they don't really
40:03created any opportunities
40:04but they'll enjoy
40:05the experience
40:06it's pretty straightforward
40:07as I say Kenny
40:08no fuss required
40:09down here
40:10at Somerset Park
40:11and it's Area United
40:12who progress
40:13into the fourth round
40:14of the Scottish Gas
40:15Scottish Cup
40:16with a 3-0 victory
40:17over Highland League
40:18Turriff United
40:19Good stuff
40:20thanks to Chick Young
40:21next stop
40:22East End Park
40:22Dunfermline at home
40:23to Queen of the South
40:25Chris Doolan
40:25is there for us
40:26a bit of a scare
40:27early on
40:28for the home side
40:29Chris
40:29but they've got the job done
40:30Yeah
40:31and it's Dunfermline 2
40:32Queen of the South 1
40:33and probably
40:34the scoreline
40:35maybe doesn't reflect
40:36the type of chances
40:37that Dunfermline missed
40:39and they also had
40:40the goal chopped off
40:41in the last couple of minutes
40:42as well for offside
40:43so it could have been
40:44a lot easier
40:44but you know
40:46Queen of the South
40:46to be fair to them
40:47played some really nice stuff
40:48and probably the difference
40:50on the day
40:50was Chris Kane
40:51he was clinical
40:52in the first half
40:53albeit
40:53Queen of the South
40:54took the lead
40:55after four minutes
40:56with an own goal
40:56from John Todd
40:58Kai Kennedy
40:58whipped a great ball in
41:00Curtis Guthrie
41:01went for it
41:02the striker for Queen of the South
41:03went for it
41:03he didn't get anything on it
41:05and it ricocheted off
41:06John Todd
41:06into the back of the net
41:07and that gave Queen of the South
41:09the great start
41:10that they were looking for
41:11but
41:12that man Chris Kane
41:13seven minutes in
41:14he's the one
41:15that pulls them back into it
41:17Todd broke down
41:18the right hand side
41:19he fired a brilliant ball
41:20into the six yard box
41:21and Kane does
41:22what every striker needs to do
41:23get in the six yard box
41:24he slides in
41:25at the back post
41:26and makes it one each
41:27and then he followed that up
41:28again in 14 minutes
41:29to get his second
41:30of the day
41:31Andy Todd again
41:32broke away
41:33he ran half the pitch
41:35and went round the goalkeeper
41:36but he went a bit too wide
41:37and he had the composure
41:39just to put his foot in the ball
41:40cut it back
41:41and find Chris Kane
41:4213 yards from goal
41:43and he took a touch
41:44and fired it in
41:44to make it 2-1
41:45and after that
41:47there was chances
41:48for both sides
41:49you know
41:49Liam Smith
41:50had a great strike
41:51in the second half
41:52which was saved
41:53Billy Terrell
41:55made a fantastic save
41:56down at his near post
41:58as well
41:58to keep the score
41:59down
42:00but again
42:02I think
42:02later on in the second half
42:04Andy Todd missed
42:05an absolute sitter
42:06from a yard out
42:07Chris Kane
42:08headers it back
42:09across to him
42:09he's a yard out
42:10and he lifts it up
42:11over the bar
42:12and like I said
42:13that goal again
42:14in the last couple of minutes
42:15was chopped off
42:16for offside
42:16so it could have been
42:17a lot easier
42:18but it ends up
42:19Dunfermline 2
42:19Queen of the South
42:20won
42:20Thank you to Chris Doolen
42:22we'll get to Billy Dodge
42:22just in one second
42:23two managers
42:24on the screens
42:25here in front of us
42:26in the studio
42:26Stephen Preston
42:27looking very happy
42:28after that really big win
42:29for his side
42:30at home
42:31to Sitmer
42:31and Jens Bertalasku
42:33goalless draw
42:34at home to Harst
42:34he's also speaking
42:35to the media right now
42:36we'll try and bring these
42:37to you on television
42:38before we're off here
42:39round about 25 past five
42:41so let's get back
42:42to Billy Dodge
42:42we hear the action
42:43in the background
42:44you've gone to extra time
42:45there Billy St Johnson
42:46against Cove Rangers
42:47in the third round
42:48of the Scottish Cup
42:49what's happening?
42:49Yeah no it's still
42:51Cove 2
42:52St Johnson 1
42:54Kenny
42:54it's just kicked off
42:55in the second half
42:56extra time
42:57it's getting to that
42:59squeaky bum time
42:59for St Johnson
43:01in terms of getting
43:02an equaliser
43:02trying to force the pace
43:03or trying to create chances
43:04but Cove look
43:05pretty solid
43:06as St Johnson
43:07down that left hand side
43:08come again
43:09I mean it was a short goal
43:10I mean it's been
43:12the pattern of the game
43:13St Johnson pressing
43:14trying to create opportunities
43:16look like going on
43:17to win it
43:17and then suddenly
43:18just a mistake
43:18from folds
43:19to substitute
43:20and let Emsley in
43:21and then the goalkeeper
43:22had another mistake
43:23as well
43:23Stewart
43:24when he hit the shot
43:25Emsley
43:25kind of went through him
43:26and into the net
43:27but Cove still leading 2-1
43:29and they're trying to cling on here
43:30yet Connor comes in
43:31it's cleared away
43:32but the natives
43:34are letting them know
43:35they're not happy
43:36with this performance
43:37so you just wonder
43:37if it'll impact them
43:38going on in the championship
43:40if they end up losing
43:41this one
43:42yeah of course
43:43they have been pegged back
43:44by Part of Thistle
43:44a great win for
43:45Mark Wilson's side
43:46mid-week
43:48let's then get to
43:49the game between
43:50Wraith Rovers
43:51and Allo Athletic
43:52and here from
43:53Brian McLaughlin
43:54a great
43:55great debut
43:56for the new manager
43:57Brian
43:57absolutely
43:58yeah
43:58the
43:59Doogie Emory era
44:00is up and running
44:01and so far so good
44:02it's 1-0 win
44:04today for Wraith Rovers
44:05against Alloa
44:06just the one goal
44:07and it came in the first half
44:08just before
44:09the half hour
44:10Matt Jordan
44:10Doherty
44:11on target
44:12after some excellent work
44:13down the left hand side
44:15involving
44:15Dylan Easton
44:16and Paul McMullen
44:18and it was Doherty
44:19with the finish
44:19from around 12 yards out
44:21into the bottom
44:22left hand corner
44:22of the goal
44:24prior to that
44:24and after it
44:25numerous chances
44:26for Wraith Rovers
44:27all going a-begging
44:28Alloa much better
44:30into the second half
44:31manager Andy Graham
44:32brought on the veteran
44:33striker Connor Salmon
44:35and he had a glorious
44:35opportunity
44:36to equalise through
44:381-1 with the goalkeeper
44:39but fired in
44:40to this side netting
44:41but by and large
44:42this was a game
44:43that Wraith controlled
44:44from the outset
44:45and they're certainly
44:46deserving of their place
44:47into the fourth round
44:49draw of the Scottish Cup
44:50tomorrow night
44:51and a great start
44:52as you say Kenny
44:53for Doherty Emery
44:54here at Starts Park
44:55where it finished
44:55Wraith Rovers
44:561-1-0
44:57Yeah he looks a very
44:58good appointment
44:58thanks to Brian
44:59McLaughlin there
44:59at Starts Park
45:01let's then hear
45:01how it finished
45:02between Banks-A-D
45:03and Ross County
45:04and get the full-time
45:05report from Tyrone Smith
45:06Yeah Kenny
45:08it's finished
45:08Highland League
45:09Banks-A-D-0
45:10Championship
45:11Ross County
45:112-0
45:12so no
45:12Scottish Cup
45:13shock here
45:14at Spain Park
45:15now with County
45:16travelling to the granites
45:17City in really
45:18poor form
45:19in the Championship
45:20there were those
45:20who believed
45:21there was a chance
45:22of an upset
45:23but it didn't
45:24materialise
45:25in the fact
45:26it was the Staggies
45:27who had a real grip
45:28in this game
45:29pretty much
45:29from start to finish
45:30and they opened
45:31the scoring
45:31in 18 minutes
45:32a really good goal
45:33to Jordan White
45:34they cut the ball
45:34back to Ronan Hale
45:35and he took a touch
45:36before spinning round
45:37and lashing it
45:38into the net
45:39the visitors
45:40pegged their hosts
45:41back pretty much
45:42continuously after that
45:44with Kieran Phillips
45:45James Scott
45:45and Hale
45:46all going
45:47close before the break
45:48and it was a similar
45:49story after it
45:50County almost
45:51doubled their advantage
45:52early in the second half
45:53a Jordan White
45:54header from point blank range
45:55was really well saved
45:56by D-keeper
45:56Daniel Hoban
45:58but they did extend
45:58the lead in 80 minutes
45:59a corner was swung in
46:00from the left
46:01White had loads of space
46:02in the box
46:03and he had time
46:04to pick his spot
46:05and head the ball
46:05into the net
46:06and that was that
46:07in the Granite City
46:08where it was
46:08Banks-A-D-0
46:09Ross County 2
46:10Stephen you said
46:30before this game
46:31this was pivotal
46:32just how big a win
46:33do you see this
46:34as being now?
46:35Yeah
46:35a very big win
46:37for us
46:37you know
46:37just in terms of
46:38the confidence
46:39and breaking
46:40the consecutive defeats
46:43but you know
46:45I think that we showed
46:47the things that we talked
46:48about all week
46:49we spoke about
46:50turning good performances
46:52into winning performances
46:54but to do that
46:55you need those
46:56extra percentages
46:57and I thought we showed
46:58that in abundance today
46:59the players attitude
47:00towards the game
47:00was terrific
47:01and also
47:02you know
47:03the need to score goals
47:05we went with a really
47:06offensive team
47:07a lot of attackers
47:08in that team
47:08and thankfully
47:10you know
47:11we got the right outcome
47:13When you lose a goal
47:15in the way
47:15that you lost that goal
47:16it can often be hard
47:18to respond
47:18in a positive way
47:19you did just that
47:20Yeah
47:21and the difficulty
47:22is just now
47:23there's a degree
47:24of frustration
47:25within the support
47:26and that's understandable
47:27when you're on the run
47:28we're on
47:28so the players
47:30had to contend
47:30with that as well
47:31and that's why
47:32I'm really proud of them
47:33to go a goal down
47:35the atmosphere
47:35in the stadium
47:36wasn't brilliant
47:37at that time
47:37we have to find a way
47:39and we responded brilliantly
47:40so you know
47:41really really happy
47:42with the result
47:44and there's elements
47:45of the performance
47:46we can still improve on
47:47but I thought
47:49our mindset
47:50and our winning mentality
47:51was very very good today
47:52and that also
47:53that mentality
47:54shone through
47:54in the way that
47:55you know
47:56St Mirren threw a lot
47:56of pressure on you
47:57but you stood firm
47:58and restricted chances
47:59as well
47:59Yeah we did
48:01and there was obviously
48:01the one moment
48:02towards the end of the game
48:03but in general
48:04I thought we defended well
48:05we defended the box
48:06really really well
48:07both Clark and Luke
48:09you know
48:10Luke being such a young one
48:11but playing with
48:12such maturity today
48:13so you know
48:14really
48:14great credit to them
48:17and I thought we had
48:17some really outstanding
48:18performances today
48:19Dre Wright was terrific
48:21he followed on
48:22from what I said
48:23was his best performance
48:24at Hibernian last week
48:25and probably
48:26he gave an even
48:27improved performance
48:28from that
48:29so you know
48:30the most important thing
48:32today was
48:33the result
48:34but within that result
48:37I saw a number
48:37of good things
48:38Yeah huge result
48:40for Stephen Presley
48:41and Dundee
48:42stay tuned for more
48:43reaction from managers
48:44and punters
48:44I think Jens Bertolasco
48:45is not too far away
48:47we're on the TV
48:48until 5.25
48:49the action will continue
48:50on BBC Radio Scotland
48:52full commentary
48:52to come from Rugby Park
48:54Kilmarnock up against
48:55Dundee United
48:56there for us
48:56Scott Allen
48:57and our match commentator
48:59Thomas Duncan
48:59good evening
49:00to you Thomas
49:01you can bring us
49:01the team news
49:02Yeah evening Kenny
49:03really big game here
49:04at Rugby Park tonight
49:05two teams struggling
49:06for form
49:06Kilmarnock
49:07six straight defeats
49:09just one win
49:10in seven
49:10for Dundee United
49:12so both desperate
49:13for three points
49:15here in Ayrshire
49:15on a bitterly cold evening
49:16I have to say
49:17the big team news
49:18from a Dundee United
49:19point of view
49:19is the change
49:21in goalkeeper
49:22Yevin Kucherenko
49:24after his three errors
49:25last week
49:25in a 3-0 defeat
49:26by Falkirk
49:27drops out
49:27in comes Dave Richards
49:29Kucherenko
49:30isn't actually
49:31in the squad
49:31he's got a half strain
49:32but as you'll hear
49:33from Jim Goodwin
49:34I spoke to him
49:34just a short time ago
49:36and he did say
49:37that he would have
49:38made the decision anyway
49:39so he was pretty upfront
49:40and honest about that
49:41that's one of five changes
49:42for Dundee United
49:43also coming in
49:43Ross Gray
49:44I'm the captain
49:44for his first appearance
49:45of the season
49:46right into the back three
49:47massive for him
49:48he'll lead the side
49:49Ryan Strain
49:50also back fit
49:51to start
49:52Tanic Kamra
49:52missed the last game
49:53as well
49:53into the side
49:55and Max Waters
49:56up front
49:56so you can see that
49:57Dundee United squad
49:58starting to get back
49:59to full strength
50:00really after being
50:00deprived of a lot
50:01of players
50:02through injury
50:03so it's Richards
50:03in goal
50:04Yeovu
50:05Graham
50:05and Karestesh
50:06the back three
50:07Strain and Ferry
50:08on the flanks
50:08Kamra and Sibold
50:09probably holding
50:11in midfield
50:11Stevenson and Sapsford
50:13either side
50:13of Max Waters
50:15as for Kamarnak
50:16they have made
50:17three changes
50:18from the defeat
50:20here by Motherwell
50:21last time out
50:21interestingly
50:22Ethan Schilter-Brown
50:24the 20 year old
50:24Canadian
50:25comes in
50:26to the heart of defence
50:27captain Brad Lyons
50:28is fit enough
50:29to start
50:29after coming off
50:30the bench
50:30at half time
50:30last week
50:31and Marley Watkins
50:32with his first
50:33league start
50:34of the season
50:34only start so far
50:36in the League Cup
50:36group stage
50:37against Kelty Hart
50:38so Kamarnak
50:39with Oluwe Yemi
50:40in the goals
50:40Mayo
50:41Schilter-Brown
50:41and Dees
50:42the back three
50:43Brown
50:43and Thompson
50:44out wide
50:44Watson
50:45and Lyons
50:46in midfield
50:46with Anderson
50:47Tiffany
50:48and Watkins
50:49the front three
50:50really looking forward
50:51to this game
50:52Kenny
50:52I think it'll be
50:52really competitive
50:53and there's a lot
50:54at stake
50:54for both teams
50:55there certainly is
50:56isn't there Scott
50:57Alan
50:57both these sides
50:58desperately need
50:59a confidence boost
51:00yeah they're really
51:01I think when you
51:01listen to the
51:02runs at both sides
51:03Rondon
51:03United
51:041-7
51:05and Kilmarnak
51:06obviously the
51:07six straight defeats
51:08and conceding goals
51:10week in week out
51:11so both need a result
51:12tonight
51:12I think that's why
51:12you see both teams
51:13have rung the changes
51:14goalkeeping one
51:16from Dundee United
51:17listen I felt it was
51:18coming a lot
51:18a lot of pundits
51:19last week wondered
51:20if he would come out
51:21for the second half
51:21he did
51:22but it's now becomes
51:23a massive game
51:24for David Richards
51:25that's the thing
51:25the pressure is now
51:26on him to go
51:27and perform
51:27we've seen it happen
51:28at Hibs last year
51:29under David Gray
51:31and it kind of
51:31changed their fortunes
51:32but there is players
51:33on this pitch
51:34for both teams
51:35who can win the game
51:36but it's going to be
51:36really competitive
51:37and really excited for it
51:38yeah
51:38Kamarnak against
51:39the United
51:39kicks off at 5.45
51:41full coverage to come
51:42on BBC Radio Scotland
51:43I can see Derek McInnes
51:44I can see Stephen Robinson
51:46on the screen in front
51:46of me here
51:47we'll hear from them
51:48on BBC Radio Scotland
51:49later in the evening
51:49on sports
51:50and we're on till
51:51round about 8 o'clock
51:52tonight
51:52but let's now hear
51:53from the
51:54motherwell manager
51:55Jens Bertil
51:56ask you after their
51:57draw at home
51:58to St Mirren
51:59today
51:59he's been speaking
52:00with Andy Burke
52:01Jens
52:02it was a point
52:03in the end
52:04should it have been
52:05three
52:05should
52:06could
52:07we gave ourselves
52:08the opportunity
52:09to get all three
52:10and that's the
52:11that's the main thing
52:11that we do that
52:12in every game
52:12we did that again
52:14today
52:14in what we knew
52:16was going to be
52:17a very very difficult
52:17game
52:18I didn't expect it
52:19to end 0-0
52:20not even with
52:23how the first half
52:24turned out
52:24because I think
52:25we had a lot
52:25of opportunities
52:26we were very very
52:27close to getting
52:28a goal
52:29allowed
52:30and again
52:32VAR
52:32did a good job
52:33there
52:33and
52:34yeah
52:35and called it off
52:37which is
52:37fair to the game
52:38so we
52:40kept trying
52:41kept pushing
52:41we fought well
52:43throughout the
52:44spell in the second half
52:45where
52:45Hearts won some momentum
52:47where they
52:48progressed
52:50with the team
52:50they were good
52:51at their counter pressing
52:52they delivered a lot
52:53of balls
52:53in the box
52:54they had some set plays
52:55one where we needed
52:56to stretch
52:57to keep that
52:59on the right side
53:00of the line
53:01and then we
53:02gained momentum again
53:03and had some
53:04really big moments
53:05at the end of
53:06second half
53:06where
53:07we could have
53:09could have taken
53:10all three points
53:11and that's where we
53:12that's where we
53:12want to be
53:13right Jens
53:14Bertalaska
53:15there a draw
53:15at Fir Park
53:16this afternoon
53:17it was a draw
53:18after 90 minutes
53:19in the third round
53:19of the Scottish Cup
53:20at McDermott Park
53:21St Johnson
53:21against Cove Rangers
53:22what's happening
53:23Billy Dodds
53:23still 2-1
53:24Cove
53:24and they really
53:25look comfortable
53:26obviously
53:26it was
53:26it appears
53:27that gave
53:28St Johnson
53:28the lead
53:29but Megganson
53:29brought a bit
53:31of belief
53:31second half
53:31got equaliser
53:32and then
53:33the mistakes
53:33led to
53:35Cove
53:36taking the lead
53:37through Emsley
53:38so it's still
53:38comfortable
53:39the five minutes
53:39to go
53:40Kenan
53:40they look
53:40pretty comfortable
53:41Cove

53:53your takeaway
53:54from another
53:54busy day
53:55of Scottish
53:55football
53:55yes indeed
53:56I think
53:56the biggest
53:57takeaway
53:57is where
53:58we've just
53:58come from
53:58that the
53:59Scottish Cup
53:59I don't know
54:00if there was
54:00too many
54:00shocks
54:01throughout the
54:01early rounds
54:01last year
54:02but Cove
54:02Rangers
54:03ninth
54:03in league
54:04one
54:04playing against
54:05high flying
54:06St Johnson
54:06so that is
54:08my takeaway
54:09and as well
54:10as the fact
54:10that I am
54:10the man
54:11when it comes
54:12to picking
54:12shock predictions
54:13in this movie
54:14you've redeemed
54:15yourself today
54:15ten seconds
54:16Tom English
54:16one win in five
54:18for Hearts
54:19beginning to wobble
54:20a little bit
54:20little red flags
54:22on their performances
54:23lack of creativity
54:24they're okay
54:25but you'd expect
54:27more from them
54:27Motherwell
54:28good
54:28at Hearts
54:30for those who
54:31want to believe
54:31in the fairy tale
54:32it's beginning
54:34to fade away
54:34a little bit
54:35we'll hear more
54:36from Derek McInnes
