00:00Thank you very much.
00:38Good evening for the first time in a very long time, a final Old Firm derby of the season where
00:44neither side would necessarily win the league title. With us this evening to pick through the pieces Darren O'Dea and
00:51Andy Halliday. Both Celtic and Rangers still chasing league leaders' hearts who last night were held to a draw by
00:58Motherwell.
01:04This looks promising. Very promising! Kingsley into his own net 1-0 Motherwell.
01:12Bjorn Shackland. It's a blistering hit! Shackland will score this time! It's 1-1!
01:22It's decision time. No penalty. Full time at Thur Park. Is it a point closer to the title for Derek
01:32MacInneson hearts?
01:35The most thrilling, enthralling and exhilarating of title races is closing in on its final act as Rangers cross Glasgow
01:43with only a faint hope left that they could end up with the silverware.
01:48McCowan replaces Tenecti for Celtic and the only alteration by Martin O'Neill from the side that started at Hibs
01:54last Sunday.
01:55Dizen Maida scored four in his last three.
01:59A couple of eyebrow-raising selections by Danny Rule including a first league start since the end of November for
02:05Oliver Antman.
02:06Connor Barron replaces Nicola Raskan who misses out altogether.
02:11Tavernier gets the nod ahead of Sterling for his last derby.
02:15The door is creaking ajar for Celtic after league leaders' hearts left two precious points lying on the Fur Park
02:22floor last night.
02:23The gap is four but it could be down to just one come the close of business here.
02:28The defending champions have it back in their own hands. They know three wins in six days and it'll be
02:34title number 14 out of 15.
02:36Easier to say than to do of course. Rangers today, Motherwell themselves on Wednesday.
02:44That before hearts come here for a possible decider next Saturday.
02:51The Rangers have won here already this season.
02:54It was in the final days of Wilfred Nancy's shambolic tenure at Celtic Park.
02:59Those Rangers get the final derby between these two under way in the glorious Glasgow sunshine.
03:12Martin and Neil after all those years.
03:15It would be Fur Park causing him pain as it did in 2005.
03:20They need to get past Rangers first.
03:23They want their shot at hearts next weekend.
03:27And here's Arnett Engels winding one up and Buckland who's too hot to handle.
03:32Maida on the follow-up.
03:34And it's back in the gloves of the Rangers keeper.
03:38And Engels thought, why not here?
03:40And they did have a bit of movement in it.
03:46And the margin for error has long since been throttled.
03:51And he comes to the race for the trophy.
03:55The Rangers managed to win it back there to their own box.
03:57And here's Mikey Moore in full floor.
04:01The options left and right.
04:02He uses Sharmite.
04:05He's got doubles in his last two league games against Celtic.
04:09Including here.
04:16It's Moor.
04:17That's McAllen.
04:19And he's a bit pig-stalking by Fernandes.
04:21He's not getting the free kick.
04:23Sharmite.
04:24He's away from trusty.
04:26It's Moor!
04:27It's 1-0 Rangers!
04:32Watch the cat back amongst the pigeons!
04:41Mikey Moore showing what he's all about.
04:44And why Rangers want to bring him back for next season.
04:48He might only have a place in the Champions League qualifiers to play for now.
04:54Giving their eight a drift coming into this one.
04:57With nine to play for.
04:59With the Rangers fans up the other end.
05:02Love this!
05:06Mikey Moore's seventh goal in Rangers colours.
05:09And Martin O'Neill is a problem.
05:17Here's Tavern here.
05:22He's found Sharmite.
05:24Trusty's in trouble again.
05:26It's broken back to Moor!
05:29Scales with the block.
05:30It wouldn't have counted anyway.
05:33It's a handball.
05:35That Nick Walsh is spotted against Sharmite.
05:39We saw that O'Donnell block from Shanklin last night at Firth Park.
05:43What a difference that made.
05:46Although this one wouldn't have stood.
05:51And Yang.
05:53The bust from Yang.
05:56Maida shrugs off the defender.
05:58But can't find the target.
06:02Oh, that's a chance.
06:05For Maida.
06:06He was too strong for Fernandes.
06:09Martin O'Neill.
06:11Expecting him to find the net there.
06:13Such is the form he's in.
06:19Trusty.
06:26Oh, it's a lovely reverse for Fernandes.
06:29Goals, it's Yang!
06:34All square again.
06:39Such an important goal.
06:41Such an important ball here by Luke McCowan as well.
06:45To tee it up.
06:47Engels back for Yang.
06:48They are having a look at an offside here.
06:53Celtic, I hope it survives the check.
06:57Yang, who scored here in the defeat against Rangers.
07:01At the turn of the year.
07:03There's a nervy wait.
07:06To see if this is going to stand.
07:09Is there a Celtic player offside?
07:12Impacting Butlin's view.
07:14That's what they're looking at.
07:16But it survives the check.
07:18John Beaton looked at it.
07:20And the goal stands.
07:32He's picked up by Muir here.
07:34It's Johnston.
07:35Goes in on Muir, but...
07:37Nick Walsh initially allowed an advantage for Rangers.
07:40I think he was going to bring it back for the free kick.
07:43And then after that, Johnston's gone slamming into that challenge.
07:47And has picked up a yellow.
07:50Though Rangers might be wanting a different colour of card.
07:56As he wiped out Mikey Moore.
08:03Going to go back to 20-24 to find a Celtic win over Rangers in 90 minutes.
08:09It's quite incredible.
08:12The Cowns don't want to win it back.
08:13Maida might be in.
08:15Still alive here.
08:19Flicked back across by Njegren.
08:23And here's Yang once more.
08:28And Celtic having to pick their way through.
08:30And it's too close to Butland.
08:35In some game, it is so chaotic out there.
08:41The stakes are so high, particularly for Celtic now.
08:49A little bit short for that.
08:54But Tallon here has won a free kick.
08:57Yang's foul.
09:00It's a brilliant position as well.
09:06It's the captain over it himself.
09:11Rangers looking for their lead back. It's Tiga but it's harmless.
09:19Rangers have won their last two here. They haven't won three in a row here since between 91 and 92.
09:30A draw would be a score line that would still suit hearts.
09:36Rying up potentially winning the title on Wednesday regardless of what happens here.
09:42Here's the half-time sub Konecti.
09:48McGregor gives it back to him, there's Negren, Maida, not far away.
09:56They keep going, that's for sure.
09:59There's a couple of openings in the game.
10:04Last season's player of the year.
10:15McGregor.
10:20He relishes these occasions as Callum McGregor once clipped over the top for Kieran Tierney.
10:27Across and Maida's there! And this time he does score!
10:34Massive!
10:37A massive goal!
10:40Celtic have come from behind to lead!
10:45And what is a must win for them!
10:50Certainly if they want to keep it in their own hands it is!
10:55Tierney being played onside there by Romans by the looks of that!
11:00And Maida did the rest, tucking it home!
11:04The scenes of jubilation from the Celtic supporters!
11:12Tierney in behind Tavernier, and how often have we seen that from Daizen Maida?
11:22It feels like a big, big moment, that one.
11:28Feels like there's a lot more togetherness about Celtic just now.
11:33The fractured relationship between the fans and the core, but putting all that to the side for the greater good.
11:40Here's Tenekti, it's only half away, it's Maida! It's genius!
11:50What a goal that is!
11:57One of the best goals this fixture's seen! Might just have settled it!
12:03And taken Celtic back to within a point of the leaders!
12:10Remarkable technique by Daizen Maida!
12:16He's hit form at just the right time for his team!
12:23That might be his best moment in a Celtic jersey so far!
12:30And almost sent 74-year-old O'Neill down the touchline!
12:35Lubo Merafczyk, who is more than capable of the spectacular himself, will have enjoyed that one!
12:46He's going to be half clear, Rangers are going to keep this alive and they will do so with Cermiti!
12:55It's going to be a corner!
12:58The Rangers keep plugging away, the lack of end-products really done them in today!
13:10Johnston can get Maida in behind, he's on a hat-trick remember and the flag stayed down for now!
13:15Maida's in!
13:16Can't finish!
13:19Flags up anyway!
13:22It's been nearly a decade since a hat-trick in a Celtic Rangers fixture,
13:26Moussa Dembele scored that one!
13:29And hat-tricks and old-firm games have been hard to come by for a long time now!
13:36And that one wouldn't have counted anyway!
13:40The Rangers are steering at the third success of defeat!
13:43Full split!
13:45Having put themselves back into the title contention!
13:50It's all drifted away!
13:53Cermiti wins another corner!
13:59This is going to be a massive victory for O'Neill!
14:02Another huge test to come at Fir Park on Wednesday!
14:07Scales, it's a good header away, it's a good game!
14:12Back out wide, back in it comes!
14:14It's Mijovski off the bar!
14:17That's where Rangers are at right now!
14:21It's going to be a third-place finish for them!
14:24They can finish no higher with defeat today, without winning today!
14:36Barron then!
14:40And that sails behind, and that's about it here!
14:45Huge victory for O'Neill!
14:49They're right in it!
14:50And they're back to winning a point of hearts!
14:54In this incredible battle for the Premiership title!
15:00They've not been top since September!
15:04That they might just do it!
15:07Six days from now!
15:10They've finished here!
15:11Celtic 3, Rangers 1!
15:14Maida the hero!
15:17It was a big win for us, I thought we were terrific, particularly in the second half!
15:21Coming from a goal behind against big rivals, I think that I couldn't be more delighted with
15:29the effort of the team and certain individuals were magnificent!
15:33I think, of course, we are disappointed about the result!
15:38We saw, I think, a game where both teams tried something, it was very competitive from both sides!
15:47We played and we started well!
15:50And then it's football!
15:52And this is what I've said many times, to take in such big games something,
15:56you have to think everything is perfect!
15:58And in some moments, we made some wrong decisions!
16:01Yeah, and then, of course, we know there is a side who can be on front foot at home as
16:07well!
16:08And then there's this 10-15 minutes after the half-time, they scored in the right moment,
16:14and then they create the energy, and finally we lose and lost 3-1!
16:20How much has it hurt you and the players that that's three defeats in a row at the most crucial
16:25period in the season, the post-split fixtures? You had five cup finals and you've lost three of them?
16:31Yeah, you're right! I think I will not lie! Of course, it hurts, it makes us disappointed,
16:37it makes us also angry and we should be disappointed, we should be,
16:42say, it's at the moment not what we want. I think we had a great position before the split and
16:49in three games we dropped really back and this is hard to take. This is what we have to improve
16:58and develop very quick because we want to be ready in the new season to be the best and for
17:05the best we
17:05have to develop.
17:07Well, those two wins are like climbing a mountain, isn't it really? Very, very big matches, big tasks
17:16for us ahead, but we can only deal with it accordingly. The players maybe enjoy a couple of hours here
17:25today and let's try and get ready for Wednesday night. That will be very big.
17:32Well, it was a proper football match with huge implications as this incredible season reaches
17:41a dramatic conclusion. Yeah, it's been unbelievable and Celtic now move to within one point
17:51of league leaders' hearts. Darren O'Dea, I think a mixture of emotions in this studio tonight with
17:58you and Andy Halliday. But we can start with you, Darren. Does it feel to you as if Celtic are
18:03coming to the boil at just the right time? Yes, I think so. I think the first feeling I got
18:10of it
18:10was probably a Falkirk at home. The crowd has completely changed as well. There's just a multitude of
18:16different reasons. Alistair Johnson coming back into the team, Engels coming back into the team,
18:21and then the star man, Dyson O'Dea, coming into form that he hasn't been in probably for two-thirds
18:27of the season. So, yeah, it's still a long way to go. I wouldn't be counting any chickens just yet
18:34because this season has been crazier than any other. Both Celtics seem to be in a really good
18:38rhythm at the minute. Andy, Rangers, out of the title race now. Lost three games in a row.
18:45It wasn't that long ago. It felt like they were favourites for the title with some people.
18:49What has happened? Well, Danny Rule doesn't like the question being down to the players' mentality,
18:55but when you've lost two games in 39 and then you're in a title race coming to post-buck fixtures
19:00and
19:00you lose three in a row, I think it's only natural that people are going to put it down to
19:04the mentality
19:05not being right. And like he says, three lead defeats in a row. It's not happened since 2000 when
19:09Dick Advocat was the manager. And I think we'll see with a couple of inches today that I definitely think
19:14mentality should be in question. It was a blockbuster match in so many ways. Am I the masterpiece in
19:20terms of this goal? A thing of beauty, Dan. Let's start with that because it was quite spectacular.
19:25Unbelievable strike. Yeah, it was. And he had so many different moments in the match. Some were
19:30absolutely brilliant. Some weren't so great. And probably this goal sums him up to a T. The actual
19:36touch isn't great, but my God, that's sensational. It's an incredible finish. It's when he's at his best,
19:41it's just pure instinct. But yeah, he's an enigma of a player. You can't always predict what he's
19:48going to do next. I don't think he knows what he's going to do next. But as it breaks to
19:51him here,
19:51the touch isn't great. What a finish. Andy, it felt like time stood still for a moment. I think
19:56many people thought it was going to go high over the bar and then it loops into the net. I
20:00mean,
20:01incredible goal. Yeah, me included. There's not many times I've been left speechless in a football
20:05stadium. Probably the last time was Yusuf Tremitte at Ibooks and then Diza Med has one-upped it in an
20:11even bigger game at the tail end of the season. But like Daz says, he's a great goal scorer,
20:17not necessarily a great finisher, but that is incredible technique. And like he says,
20:21for all the world, I think it's going over the bar and then it's inch perfect.
20:23Which one's better then, that one or Tremitte's?
20:26I think in terms of technique, Yusuf Tremitte's, but I would edge towards that,
20:30given the fact that it's in a bigger game. You know, it's at the tail end of the season.
20:33It's a game where Celtic ultimately had gone to try and win a league against their nearest rivals
20:38with three games to go. So in terms of the goal and the technique itself, I'd lean towards Tremitte's,
20:43but in terms of the overall context, I would give to this. What would you go for, Dan?
20:46Yeah, I'd agree totally with that. Okay. As for Rangers in this game, Andy, it started so well.
20:53They were excellent at the start. Yeah, I thought they played territory. I thought they were really on
20:58the front foot. I thought the majority of their success came between these two pair
21:02ends here and make him on Yusuf Tremitte. Yusuf Tremitte, I thought, all afternoon was
21:07trying to play on the shoulder and it almost looked as if it was a ploy by Rangers for him
21:12to play on Austin Trusty's side. Because I thought Austin Trusty really struggled to
21:15deal with Yusuf Tremitte in opening 30 minutes of the game. And again, a lot of these weren't
21:20great service. I mean, it was just out of sheer desire to get on the end of things. You can
21:24see here,
21:25it's not particularly a great ball by Fernandez. Austin Trusty misreads it.
21:29He makes a chance of it. He's putting himself about, but this is obviously what leads to the goal.
21:34You can see he's already directing the press for your teammates. He double presses,
21:37he follows on. And it gets to this point where Rangers go man for man and really lock Celtic
21:41down one side. And Emmanuel Fernandez deserves so well to follow him with Luke McKewan. But the fact
21:46of the matter is, not enough did Rangers win the ball, then play forward. And that's exactly what they
21:51did here. I mean, he gets to Yusuf Tremitte, shows great feet. The old fashioned toe bash,
21:55as I used to call it when I was younger. And then Mikey Moore does ever so well to follow
21:58it in.
21:59Yeah, just from a Celtic point of view, we're going to touch on some of the Rangers defending,
22:03but it's not quite, it's not quite up to speed with Austin Trusty. It's weak, but I agree totally.
22:09I thought Chimitri played on Austin Trusty and we're certainly getting the better of them for
22:13a large part of the first half. But as Celtic have done all season, and one thing that's not
22:18in question is their character and the way they reacted to that was excellent.
22:21Yeah, Celtic have had their ups and downs clearly this season, Dan. It's all been very well documented
22:26indeed. Throughout it though, Yang's been a bit of a bright spark for most of the season.
22:31He'll be hugely important today. Yeah, he was, yeah. I think we're going to watch it now. I think Yang,
22:39he obviously started off the left and Martin, even though things were going okay, he still managed
22:45to change it. You can see here, the one thing with Engels coming in here, he was the one that
22:49settled this to start with, laid it off in the halfway line. He's the one making an inside run.
22:53They've missed him terribly. Yang, all season, probably been Celtic's most consistent performer.
22:59Nygren has got the goals, but Yang's been the best player. But from a Rangers perspective,
23:02Van Diel touched on it here, it isn't great. Yeah, well, you see, I mean, initially,
23:07Mikey Moore follows the runner, Alistair Johnson. Chukwani drops the runner on the Engels.
23:11He's no awareness of where the Celtic midfielder is. But for me, Emmanuel Fernandes has the full
23:15picture in front of him. So he then has to try and rectify the mistake. And A, he doesn't follow
23:20the run at Engels. But when he doesn't follow the run and Engels takes his touch, he makes
23:24no attempt to try and close the gap. So that just allows Arnie Engels to be in the box,
23:28lift his head and pick a spot and just roll it across goal for Yang to tap it in. So
23:32I thought that was
23:33one scenario where I thought the back two a Rangers got so much wrong on the day defensively.
23:38In terms of the potential offside there, obviously Celtic players in that position,
23:43the suggestion that they might have been obscuring the sightline of Jack Butland,
23:47where do you stand on that? Yeah, well, listen, I think there's a couple of controversial
23:50things that happened today. I'm not, I don't have as strong an opinion on that one. I think
23:56when you freeze frame it just before Yang hits the ball, I could argue that Jack Butland can see that.
24:01Now, I'm not looking through Jack Butland's eyes, so I can't say that definitively,
24:04but it does look to me as if he has an angle over Negan's shoulder where he can see the
24:08ball.
24:09I know a lot of people are saying that he won't get the ball anyway, which to me should matter,
24:13because if you're a football person and you've played the game and you don't think Jack Butland's
24:17going to save it, you think it should matter. But the fact that it doesn't, it's all about the law
24:20and the letter of the law is, is he blocking the line of vision for Jack Butland? For me,
24:24I think Jack Butland could see it.
24:26Darren, we've spoken a lot about Celtic in terms of the season overall. Obviously,
24:30there was the Wilfred Nancy period. It looked like it might scupper Celtic's title chances.
24:35They have spluttered at times this season, but since the international break, probably since that
24:39defeat to Dundee United, they've looked better overall. And as this match developed,
24:45it just seemed to have much more intensity, it felt like.
24:48Yeah, well, Andy's touched a bit on what Rangers were doing in terms of they were a little bit
24:51man-to-man at times. I felt at half-time the biggest change was Celtic were just more fluid.
24:56And when you're playing against a team that plays man-to-man, essentially you can drag them
25:00where you want to because you're in control of them. You can see Yangs right across the pitch here,
25:04Tanecki on the ball, they keep interchanging. Now it's Tierney giving the width and Tanecki inside.
25:09It got invariably that inside run was the thing that caused Rangers a lot of problems all day.
25:13Came the first goal with Yangs, equaliser, and Maiden nearly gets on the end of it.
25:18This is the goal that comes up. From a Rangers aspect, Andy's going to touch on it.
25:22But from Celtic's point of view, it's Tierney now running behind rather than the winger.
25:27And that's made, there's just a small little bit of movement here where he slows up and
25:31pulls onto the shoulder of Fernandes and then his speed is fantastic to get in front of him.
25:35Yeah, I don't know how long we've actually got to pick the bones out of this, but from a Rangers
25:38point of view,
25:39it's just dreadful for the get-go. I mean, Nasser Giga is jumping out to press someone who has no
25:45chance of getting the ball.
25:46Conor Barron's already shadowing that pass into feet. And then when a centre-half, as I'll tell you,
25:52when a centre-half decides to jump out, then the rest of the back four have to readjust.
25:56They have to narrow up, they have to deepen off to avoid the threat in behind.
26:00And you talk about mentality, look at Nasser Giga's reaction when the ball goes over the top.
26:04I mean, a light jog to try and get back into position.
26:08And then Emmanuel Fernandes, who is goal-side of Maeda, at no point makes any contact whatsoever.
26:12And you then see the change of speed for the eyes of Maeda to try and make a difference,
26:16to try and get on a goal, to try and score.
26:18And Emmanuel Fernandes doesn't change his speed at all, doesn't make contact in at least the second goal.
26:22How angry would you have been if you'd been on that Rangers team in that moment?
26:26Well, I think me and Daz were talking about just from a sheer footballing perspective.
26:30I wouldn't expect to see goals that I conceded at their lowest level of Scottish football.
26:33I think across the back four, the errors are really, really poor.
26:38Like he says, before he even starts when they're in a back four, Rangers back four is 50 yards apart.
26:43There's no compactness to it whatsoever.
26:45And then it all leads by Nasser Giga then deciding to step into a position where he should never go.
26:50The rest of the back three don't adjust at all.
26:52But then when they're breached and the ball goes over the top, there's no willingness to take it back in
26:56the defender situation.
26:57I think defenders, and particularly them two, I think individually they've got clearly massive attributes in terms of their physicality.
27:02They're actually composed on the ball, particularly Fernandes.
27:06But part of defending is not defending, is stopping things and reading things.
27:10The ball to them, particularly today, read nothing.
27:13I don't know if you agree as well, Daz.
27:15For me, a lot of that is down to, I think because they have such recovery pace,
27:19they almost feel as if they don't have to read situations early because they think that their pace will allow
27:23them to get away with it.
27:25But when you're playing against guys like Diza Leida, who is equally the same pace as you,
27:29he's reactive, you're proactive, and there's only one winner in that scenario.
27:32Darren, last weekend, Celtic got the victory against Hibs at Easter Road.
27:36Kelechi Iheanacho with the goal.
27:38I was asking the question, how important could he be in terms of Celtic potentially winning the title?
27:43But it really does feel like we are back into the realms of Daz and Maida once again.
27:46Six goals in his last four matches, but it wasn't just the goals today, was it?
27:51I mean, he was everywhere.
27:53Well, if you want to know why Iheanacho is not playing, watch Diza Maida because
27:58this guy doesn't just score goals and impact big games.
28:01He's just constantly a nuisance to play against.
28:04He is an absolute nightmare to play against.
28:06You can see here is the one that's biting back to win the ball back and ends up on a
28:09rebound from Arne Engel's shot.
28:11He's just constantly on the move, constantly looking to play on people's shoulders.
28:16But that's one thing. The fact is, he's got a work ethic that I don't think I've ever actually, I'm
28:22trying to think off the top of my head,
28:23a player I've ever seen that has that level of willingness to run after lost causes like this.
28:29He knows he's not going to win the header. He's not big enough to do that against Fernandes Jiga,
28:32but he does enough to put him off. And again, he's back onto the shoulder.
28:36He's just, he's just nonstop.
28:38And then the next part of me is when he goes and plays off the left, there's never an issue
28:42with what position he plays in.
28:43And this is the bit of Diza Meda that kind of baffles people for all the quality he's got.
28:49When he has time to think, it's probably not when he's at his best.
28:52And then all of a sudden, when he doesn't have time to think, this is what you get.
28:54He almost needs things to be 100 million.
28:57Yeah, yeah, yeah.
28:57Because you feel like, like Daz says, when he's got all the time in the world to think and pick
29:02his spot and show that little bit of composure.
29:04That's probably the one thing he lacks when we're talking about that natural finish and instinct.
29:08That's probably the perfect scenario for it.
29:10But everything else that comes with it, I mean, for me as exemplary,
29:13to any young player that's watching football, you talk about leadership.
29:16Leadership comes in all different types of forms.
29:18That's leadership for me.
29:19Leading by example, by instigating the press for Celtic, not giving up on loose balls.
29:24A willingness to make a difference at the top end of the pitch.
29:27And I thought it was another occasion where Diza Meda was an absolute standout in this game.
29:30Yeah, he was unbelievable.
29:32This moment was interesting.
29:34Initially, Darren, I thought, brilliant tackle from Alistair Johnston, gets the ball.
29:38But, of course, then there's the follows through.
29:41Get a yellow card for this.
29:42Was it the right decision?
29:45I think when I watched it, I don't think there's any intent.
29:49But the reality is you don't need to have intent.
29:51It's essentially that when he follows through, his leg is straight and it's above Mikey Moore's ankle.
29:57He can count himself fortunate.
29:59I wouldn't have felt for him if he had gone off.
30:01Because you know nine times out of ten if a footballer is intending to do something.
30:05But the reality is, nowadays, with VAR and Cech, he's a lucky lad that he's got away with it.
30:10It would have had a huge bearing on this match, obviously, Andy.
30:13It was one all at the time, just before half-time.
30:16Where do you stand on that challenge?
30:18Well, I certainly feel stronger about that incident than I do the Jack Butlin one.
30:23Again, to completely agree with Daz, in the initial scenario on live play,
30:27I have no issues whatsoever with the fact that Nick Walsh doesn't give a red card.
30:30Because initially, I don't even think it's a foul.
30:32But we've seen multiple incidents like that this season.
30:35I remember, I think it was Fata for Dundee United, Jake Young for St Mirren.
30:40Any time that a player catches someone in that area, your leg above the ankle with your studs,
30:46they've always been giving us red cards.
30:48So, I have no issue with Nick Walsh getting that wrong.
30:50But there's a severe issue that VAR don't get it right.
30:54They've got the angles that we've just seen there.
30:56And I'm amazed it's not resulted in a red card.
30:59That's the match. Let's get to the context of the situation.
31:02Just two more rounds of fixers to go.
31:04Let's start with Rangers, Andy.
31:06Now out of the title race.
31:08They can only finish in third place.
31:10They've lost three games in a row, as we've mentioned.
31:13How serious is the pressure from the Rangers fans right now on Danny Roll, would you say?
31:18I think it's pretty serious just now.
31:21I think he's had a lot of praise for taking a 13-point deficit to Hearts down to one.
31:26But equally deserves the same amount of, shall we say, disgruntlement from taking it at one to eight.
31:32So, a lot of the points that he regained, he's obviously gave it straight back.
31:35And I think at this moment in time, my belief is that Danny Roll will be the Rangers manager next
31:40season.
31:41But there will be a fear from Rangers fans' point of view that they've seen this movie before,
31:46where they're a little bit unsure about Philippe Clermont going into a new season.
31:50Ultimately, by Christmas, he's sacked.
31:52Michael Beal are a little bit unsure about him going into a new season.
31:55By Christmas, he's sacked.
31:56So, I think it's almost a movie that they've seen being played out over the last three, four years.
32:00Because there will 100% be split opinions.
32:03There will definitely be Rangers fans that think they should get another transfer window they should see next season.
32:07But I think there will be a lot of Rangers fans that will be worried about the lack of big
32:12game success.
32:12Because you look at his record in big games since he's came at the club, it's not been good enough.
32:16In terms of Celtic and Hearts, I mean, for the neutral, Darren, it is mouth-watering to watch this end
32:21of the season.
32:22And obviously, Hearts are at home to Falkirk midweek.
32:25And Celtic have to go to Motherwell before, of course, Celtic and Hearts play each other at Celtic Park next
32:30weekend.
32:31How are you calling it? How is that scenario going to unfold?
32:36I think Hearts win. Home to Falkirk in their home form and the kind of form they're in,
32:42even though they lost to Halkirk and Leonard during the week.
32:45I think they win.
32:46I think if Celtic can do their business away to Motherwell, which is a very, very tricky game,
32:52I very fancy Celtic strongly.
32:55Because I think, as we touched on, to be a home, the crowd is right behind them.
33:00I think if this goes to the last game, I think Celtic will win.
33:03The next part of it is the goal difference. Where is that going to all sit?
33:06So the midweek games are going to be huge in terms of how that last game looks.
33:10But I do fancy Celtic to win the game against Hearts.
33:14But ultimately, it might be goal difference that it comes down to as well.
33:16I've got to ask you as well, Andy, to gaze into your crystal ball.
33:18You've got skin in the game here, obviously, as well.
33:20Part of the Motherwell squad that hosts Celtic on Wednesday as well.
33:24And you've been supporting Hearts to win the title all season.
33:27But how are you looking at it with two more games?
33:30Yeah, I was on the Hearts team for a long period of time and came off them at a really
33:34bad time,
33:34to be honest with you, because it transpired that they still kept winning.
33:38And they've done that ever so well.
33:40It's got to the point, Jonathan, that it's so hard to predict.
33:43I'm changing my mind on a daily basis.
33:46There's no doubt whatsoever it will be a tough game, obviously, for both teams on Wednesday night.
33:50And for me, it's definitely going to go down to that one-game shootout at Celtic Park.
33:54And given how I thought the atmosphere was today,
33:56Dad said the atmosphere was the exact same against Falkirk.
33:59I think Celtic are probably hitting their best spell at the right time.
34:01Celtic have only won five games in a row this season once before today.
34:05And that's them now in a five-game winning streak.
34:07So they're almost, like you said earlier on, they're coming to the ball at the right time.
34:11But Hearts are finding a way to win games still.
34:14So, who knows?
34:15But one thing's for sure, it's got to be a remarkable two games.
34:17It is a brilliant watch.
34:18What a week ahead.
34:19We have got time for the best of the Saturday action now, starting with the teams in the top six.
34:28It's been such a fantastic season for the Falkirkers.
34:34They want to be finishing with a flourish.
34:36They're certainly starting impressively.
34:39It's a great ball in from Just.
34:41And it's a flashing header that produces the first save of the match.
34:46Callum Slattery with an opportunity here to break the deadlock inside the opening 60 seconds.
34:55Priestman caught on the ball.
34:58Shankland.
35:01Altanau.
35:02Spilled.
35:03And what an opportunity for Shankland.
35:06He can't believe he's not put the ball in the back of the net.
35:10It's a brilliant block.
35:11But your money was on 1-0 hearts here.
35:17What?
35:18Looks to play it in behind for Maswanisi.
35:23The back heel for Longolo.
35:26This looks promising.
35:28Very promising.
35:31Ibrahim Saeed has Motherwell in front.
35:36They were never here to make up the numbers.
35:40Who's got the last touch on this?
35:43It was Saeed in the six-yard box for Motherwell.
35:46That did that take its last touch off Stephen Kingsley.
35:50Kingsley, a goalscorer for Hearts against Rangers last Monday.
35:55But it's one into his own net this time.
35:591-0 Motherwell.
36:04Leonard.
36:06Probing again.
36:08Altanau.
36:09Beningami.
36:12Kingsley's cross.
36:14Bjorn Shankland.
36:15It's a blistering hit.
36:17Shankland will score this time.
36:19It's 1-1.
36:20The Premiership leader is back on track.
36:24And they seem to love coming from the goal down.
36:27Did it against Hibbs.
36:28Did it against Rangers.
36:30Back on level terms at Fur Park.
36:34He missed one earlier.
36:35You would expect him to snap up.
36:38And he wasn't going to say no to this.
36:41The equaliser lashed in by the Hearts captain.
36:49Lungolo with the block.
36:51Priest from the header.
36:54Motherwell will stop that going behind for a corner kick.
36:57Well, that looks like a big shout for a penalty.
37:00You would have to wonder how that's not being given.
37:03It looks like a big escape for Lungolo VAR.
37:07We'll have had a look at it, obviously, and thought not.
37:13Altona played it in.
37:20Deflection on the cross ball into the gloves aboard.
37:24Well, play is halted by Stephen McClain so he can have a look at the monitor about a possible penalty.
37:32It's decision time, no penalty.
37:38It's a painful night if you're a Hearts fan.
37:42Full-time at Fur Park.
37:44Is it a point closer to the title for Derek McInneson Hearts?
37:51Or is it two points dropped?
37:59Campbell, a trailing figure unmarked at the moment.
38:02Corner whipped in.
38:03It looks dangerous, Campbell's there!
38:05And Hibbs have an early lead.
38:09And what about that?
38:11From Campbell.
38:14The joy for Josh Campbell.
38:16He just isn't man-marked.
38:19Campbell rising the highest and gets enough on it to put the ball beyond Hogarth.
38:26This is Ardiel.
38:29Searching wide for Boyle.
38:32Neat touch.
38:34Boyle crosses.
38:35Waiting to be attacked!
38:36And it is!
38:37And it's another for Josh Campbell!
38:41Ardiel with a lovely pass out for Boyle.
38:44He keeps his eyes on it all the way.
38:46This cross looked dangerous.
38:48It was deep in behind the Falkirk back line.
38:51How has Campbell allowed all that space to move in at the back post?
38:58It's only 20 minutes on the clock.
39:00John McGlynn can't believe it.
39:05Berlaser has a look at what's on offer for the free kick.
39:10Up towards Hanley.
39:12Managed to get a touch, an unconvincing clearance.
39:14A beat, a strike deflected.
39:16Superb reflex save from Hogarth.
39:22A couple of important moments for the Falkirk goalkeeper.
39:28That's brilliant.
39:33Wants to send this throw forward.
39:39Paslak.
39:41Not much space to work with, does well to get the ball over.
39:44And it will drop for Obita!
39:48Who batters the ball into the back of the net!
39:52The first half just gets better and better for Hibernian.
39:58Paslak didn't look like he had much on with that delivery.
40:02Boyle moved first.
40:03He didn't get near it.
40:05Obita stepped up.
40:06And that is a terrific finish.
40:10Hogarth with no chance.
40:12As the ball flashes between his legs.
40:22Miller with Ross.
40:26Miller again.
40:28Spencer waits.
40:30Spencer takes.
40:33Broggio.
40:33Goal!
40:36Falkirk have one back.
40:39Ben Broggio scores his fifth goal in the Premiership this season.
40:43The only one to be taken out of the team from the start this weekend.
40:50He makes his mark with a fine finish.
40:54Hibs will be disappointed to lose a goal.
40:58Just over quarter of an hour to play.
41:03Yeah, a fantastic victory for Hibs away at Falkirk.
41:06How big a win was that, would you say, Andy?
41:08Ian, how concerned are you that Hibs will be breathing down Motherwell's neck for a fourth place finish?
41:13Well, it's huge to obviously gain a bit of a cushion between them and Falkirk in that fifth position.
41:19And I think, obviously, from Hibs's point of view, they'll be doing everything they can to take it to that
41:23one-game shootout of Easter Road in the last game of the season.
41:26But, listen, from your point of view, we've still got two games to go.
41:29Obviously, a big game on Wednesday night.
41:31And if you get the job done on Wednesday night, that's it.
41:33Fourth place secured in European football, guaranteed.
41:35You're confident, man.
41:36He's not going to be there anyway, so he's not bothered.
41:39Spot on.
41:41Darren, you spoke about the Alistair Johnston incident in the old firm today.
41:45Obviously, last night at Fir Park, lots of controversy.
41:50Where do you stand on it?
41:51Was it a bad night for VAR?
41:52And also, how concerned are you as we reach the proper business end that VAR could play a pivotal role,
41:59potentially?
42:00No, I might be on my own in this, but I'm OK with VAR.
42:04I prefer it comes down to the right decisions, albeit what we're seeing now is potentially not the right decision
42:11getting made.
42:11That's a real problem.
42:12I think last night, I think Steve McLean was absolutely fixated.
42:16This is my opinion on whether Massonisi stood on his foot.
42:22But I think Massonisi's intent is to run across the front of him, and he's no intent of playing the
42:27ball.
42:27So he's very, very lucky that he didn't give away a penalty, is what I would say.
42:32People say it's soft.
42:33The reality is it probably should have been a penalty.
42:36OK, yes, plenty of controversial moments yesterday and still to come, I'm sure.
42:40Time for a quick breather as we continue on our quest to decide Scotland's most iconic goal.
42:45It's really your quest, to be honest.
42:47It's all down to your votes.
42:48We're at the quarterfinal stage.
42:50Now, Jays McFadden's goal in Paris defeated Kieran Tierney's strike against Denmark in the first quarterfinal to seal a place
42:57in the semis.
42:58Tonight, it's David Neri versus Kenny MacLean.
43:09Brilliant pass forward.
43:12Oh, there's a great goal, a brilliant goal!
43:15Dave Neri won nothing for Scotland!
43:19Oh, what a superb goal!
43:21Look how he hammered that in!
43:25That is a stunning performance by Scotland!
43:32It's the old man, they're giving it away.
43:34Shoot!
43:35Here's McLean, he's going to shoot.
43:37Oh, he's down!
43:38He's down!
43:39He's down!
43:39Is that good?
43:40He's down!
43:40No!
43:40No!
43:43I don't believe it at all!
43:47I have never seen anything quite as incredible and dramatic as Kenny McLean!
44:01Goals bring a smile to the face.
44:03Will it be David Neri or Kenny MacLean for you who makes the final four?
44:07Vote by using the QR code on the screen, or you can go straight to the BBC Sport website,
44:12where you can see all the contenders, full terms and conditions are online at BBC Sport.
44:18Now, Serie A, Scott's return to Napoli is available to watch on the BBC iPlayer.
44:23Scott McTominay has grabbed so many of the headlines of late.
44:26Time to shine some of the adulation, I think, on the brilliant Billy Gilmore.
44:30So, Scott, one thing about Billy Gilmore that we don't know.
44:35We all are.
44:36He's extremely hygienic.
44:38He's always, you know, he's always groomed nicely.
44:41He's always having a little trim up.
44:43He's always shaving or getting himself prepped at him.
44:47Barnet's always good, you know what I mean?
44:48Don't know about the Barnet.
44:50He needs a haircut.
44:51Maybe a wee bit of OCD.
44:53Yeah, yeah.
44:54He's clean as well, like, even when you go into his gaff and that.
44:56It's always shoes, everything's tidy and stuff.
44:59You are the one that happens.
45:03What an insight.
45:04There is an absolute feast of football on the BBC.
45:06Serie A, Scott's return to Napoli is on the iPlayer.
45:09And it's actually on BBC Scotland straight after this show,
45:11unless you're watching us on repeat on BBC One.
45:14The SWPL highlights are on tomorrow at half past seven as well.
45:18And then it's back to the Premiership Playoffs, the semi-final stage.
45:21We are live in Dunfermline.
45:23It's Partick Thistle come calling on Tuesday night, half past seven.
45:26And the second leg in Glasgow, Friday night, half past seven.
45:29Once again, as always, on BBC Scotland.
45:31And two massive midweek nights in the Premiership coming up on Tuesday night.
45:35The penultimate round of bottom six matches.
45:37Highlights at 10 o'clock on BBC Scotland.
45:39And then on Wednesday, with an ultimate round of top six matches,
45:43join us at 10.40 on BBC One Scotland.
45:48Back to the Saturday action.
45:50And it's all getting very dramatic indeed in the bottom six.
45:59D's feeds it forward.
46:01There's a claim for handball there against Keltie, but the play goes on.
46:10Kilmarnock, such a good record against St. Merin.
46:14Just one defeat in the last 14 in the top flight.
46:18And Schoening-Larsen, out to Finlay-Curtis, who's still off the game on the right flank.
46:24Back into Shibola.
46:28Thompson.
46:29To Lowry.
46:31Up against O'Hara.
46:33He finds himself a yard, it's a teasing ball in.
46:36And it's in.
46:37The opening goal for the visitors.
46:41Early on, elation.
46:44In the away dugout.
46:47And indeed, among the visiting supporters, and no wonder.
46:52St. Merin protection, it was a handball in the build-up.
46:56Joy could be short-lived.
47:00Checks on going.
47:02Was very early in the move.
47:06They are taking a look at it.
47:09Freckleton's own goal.
47:10Under pressure here.
47:12At the back post from Hugel.
47:15And the goal's being given.
47:20Freckleton for Campbell.
47:23No Tanza.
47:25Dicks the cross out.
47:26It's a good ball.
47:27O'Hara arriving.
47:28And Stryak with a crucial stop.
47:31That was a big moment, you feel, just before half-time.
47:34O'Hara gets the target.
47:37And either side is Stryak, and that's a goal.
47:47That's going to fall for Curtis!
47:50Who tucks it home!
47:53A composed British from the youngster.
47:58And what a start to the second half!
48:06Oh, Kilmarnock struck early in the first period.
48:10But that one is within 30 seconds of the restart.
48:22It's too slack in possession.
48:25Here come Kilmarnock again, looking to kill them off.
48:30Levery manages to poke it to...
48:32Curtis once more!
48:34Oh, it's almost a carbon copy!
48:37Well, I think that one's even better!
48:41A double for Finlay Curtis!
48:45The young man on loan from Rangers.
48:48It's been a terrific acquisition for this Kelly side.
48:52Look at the finish there.
48:55Knew exactly where he was going to place it.
49:00Kelly looking to pick some minutes off on the counter once more.
49:03Bruce Anderson
49:06slips it for Shibola, it's at number four!
49:09And Donnelly,
49:11what a terrific goal line clearance.
49:14Shibola's eyes must have lit up here.
49:17Rolled in beautifully by Anderson.
49:20Good stop.
49:21Donnelly does really well.
49:29Down goes Simon Murray.
49:31Up pops Simon Murray.
49:33In from Ugan.
49:35It's Murray who knocks it down!
49:36And it's Cam Congreve who scores!
49:39Dundee in front, 13 minutes in.
49:44Congreve's third goal of the season.
49:46And everyone in dark blue is hoping this goal points Dundee towards Premiership safety.
50:01Stepping away is Luke Graham, driving into midfield and then picking out Cam Congreve who looks to threaten again.
50:10Cuts inside, shot blocked.
50:12Here he goes again and he's crossed it for Finn Robertson to surely tie things up for Dundee.
50:2371 minutes.
50:252-0 for the home team.
50:28And Robertson, who scored a late winner against Motherwell in March,
50:35gets another important goal for Dundee.
50:43Finn Lassen.
50:45Lewis Smith!
50:47That's got to be a penalty and it is.
50:51You could tell immediately by Ethan Hamilton's reaction that he knew this was a stonewaller
51:02and a chance for Livy to get a lift.
51:05It's Robbie Muirhead!
51:07It's a poor penalty.
51:09And it's a big save for Kieran O'Hara.
51:14Down the middle but low down the middle.
51:16Had to surely be lifting it over the goalkeeper's legs.
51:20And O'Hara makes the save.
51:25Dundee.
51:29Scott Wright looking to make things happen off the bench.
51:35Samuels with the cross ball in.
51:37Cometeo's header.
51:40Rescued by Robertson.
51:42Here's Wright.
51:45Finn Robertson.
51:46Oh, it's a great ball in for Asche.
51:49And that is that for Dundee.
51:52It's 3-0.
51:55And they know they will be playing Premiership football again next season.
52:04Top quality this from Robertson on the back of his goal.
52:08This is an expert assist.
52:11Prior came for it.
52:12But Asche was towering over the top of him to nod the ball in.
52:18For Dundee's third goal.
52:25And Geiger drops it over the top for Alasagna.
52:29Superb strength.
52:31And he lays it on to Armstrong.
52:35And a trademark Stuart Armstrong finish.
52:38Puts Aberdeen in front.
52:41Standing ovation from the manager.
52:43And Aberdeen, after a pretty positive start, have a reward.
52:49And you cannot rest for a second when you're defending Toyosi Alasagna.
53:00Now United pouring forwards.
53:03Cross comes in and it's Waters.
53:10Well, that probably should be one-all.
53:13Max Waters struggling for form in front of goal.
53:21Neatly worked to Shinny.
53:23Back to Cameron.
53:25Space here for Mitchell Frame.
53:27Olaasagna takes the touch.
53:32And nearly finds the Merkland road.
53:39Will it ever go in?
53:41For Toyosi Alasagna in a red jersey.
53:46And Olaasagna too quick for Agji.
53:50And this is trouble for the United midfielder.
53:54Twice.
53:55Olaasagna has beaten him for pace.
53:58It equals two yellow cards.
54:01And off for Emmanuel Agji.
54:04And United are going to have to see out the final six or seven minutes with ten players.
54:10Camerat dispossessed by Pala Versa.
54:15He's played Nisbet into space.
54:18Kevin Nisbet.
54:19Cameron.
54:20That's clever.
54:21Goes for goal.
54:22Parry to Alasagna.
54:26Just sheer relief for Toyosi Alasagna.
54:32His first Aberdeen goal on his 16th appearance.
54:37And almost everyone, bar those associated with the United, are delighted for him.
54:46And tonight, the William Hill Premiership table looks like this.
54:49With two games to go, hearts are topped by just one point from Celtic.
54:53Rangers' title hopes are over.
54:55They will finish third.
54:57Hibs can still catch Motherwell in the bottom six.
55:00Dundee are safe.
55:01Kilmarnock took a giant stride to safety with that victory over St Mirren.
55:05We're now four points behind with time fast running out.
55:10It is all getting very dramatic indeed at the bottom half of the table.
55:14Darren O'Dee, do you feel that Kilmarnock are safe now?
55:19Yes, yes.
55:21When it came down to it, I think they've got a manager, Neil McCann, that has done it before.
55:25When I was a player at Dundee, he came in and he knows how to give team belief and set
55:30them up to stay up.
55:32On St Mirren's side, they have a manager who's clearly a talented coach but lacks the experience.
55:36So, yeah, I fully expect Kilmarnock. I expected this a couple of weeks ago and now they're in a brilliant
55:41position.
55:41Is that how you see it, Andy?
55:43Do you think St Mirren will finish second bottom?
55:45And if that is what you think, how will they fare against either Dunfermline Athletic or Partick Thistle?
55:53Yeah, I think that's them essentially guaranteed are on the spot for me.
55:57I think if you look at Kilmarnock's approach to two massive games over the last two weeks,
56:00how aggressive they are.
56:01They're front foot, win both games 3-0, whereas St Mirren in their biggest game of the league season,
56:06putting a performance that they did against Kilmarnock, lose 3-0.
56:09Any time they go 1-0 down at this moment in time, you think they've lost the game
56:12just because they can't seem to score a goal.
56:15Now, the fact that they can't seem to score a goal and they're in a form they're on,
56:18and I do worry for them, whoever they play in this play-off promotion.
56:24So, they're filming party.
56:25It'll be a great game.
56:26Looking forward to the two legs that we've got there.
56:28And then whoever wins that game, I make them favourites against St Mirren.
56:31Very interesting.
56:32Quick word, I think, about Dundee as well.
56:34Darren, I mean, Stephen Presley didn't exactly come in in a blaze of glory there,
56:38but he's done well.
56:39They're safe.
56:40Yeah, no, he summarised it well.
56:41I won't repeat what he said, but the songs that were sung about when the start of the season
56:45is a big contrast to what has been sung now.
56:47So, he's done a fantastic job and he's a really good guy as well.
56:50So, I'm delighted for him.
56:51Yeah, I mean, he's done well, hasn't he, Andy?
56:53He has.
56:54And through the tough times, someone that's really stuck to his principles
56:57and asked his team just to believe in it and improve.
57:00And they've improved week by week.
57:02And it was that little period between almost January to March time
57:05where they picked up enough points to keep them safe.
57:07So, if there's ever the show, because I thought it took a lot of really, really harsh criticism
57:11at the start of the year.
57:12They'll be testing him next year.
57:13And there we must leave it.
57:14Andy Darren, thank you very much indeed.
57:16It has been the penultimate weekend of this incredible Premiership season.
57:20Two more games to go for each side from all of us on the sporting team for now.
57:23Good night.
