After playing a video game avatar in two 'Jumanji' movies, Kevin Hart has officially signed on for another type of gaming adventure, with the actor closing his deal to star in Lionsgate's adaptation of 'Borderlands.'

00:00Kevin Hart has officially signed on to star in Lionsgate's adaptation of the video game Borderlands.
00:05This comes after Hart played a video game avatar in two Jumanji movies,
00:09with the most recent being 2019's Jumanji The Next Level.

00:23In Borderlands, Hart will play the skilled soldier Roland in what will be a more serious acting turn for the star,
00:28who is known worldwide for his comedy chops.
00:30He had been in negotiations for months.
00:33Cate Blanchett is also set to star in the film as legendary thief Lilith.
00:37Emmy-winning Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin wrote the script.
00:40And Eli Roth is directing the film.
00:42He said in a statement,
00:43I'm thrilled to be working with Kevin.
00:44Borderlands is a different kind of role for him,
00:47and we are excited to thrill audiences with a side of Kevin they've never seen before.
00:50He's going to be an amazing Roland.
00:52The Borderlands video game launched in 2009 to acclaim,
00:55with Gearbox Software and publisher 2K debuting Borderlands 3 in September 2019.
01:01The video game series has sold more than 66 million units.
01:05As for Hart, the actor has a number of projects in the pipeline,
01:08including the action comedy Man from Toronto,
01:10which he has rapped opposite Woody Harrelson and Kaley Cuoco.
01:13He is also rapped on the film Fatherhood.
