00:00Kevin Hart may not be hosting the Oscars this year, or ever, but the comedian still
00:04has plenty of projects to keep him busy. Now just to recap, in case you've been
00:08walking around with your fingers in your ears and humming loudly for the past
00:11month or so, here's what went down. Kevin Hart was announced as the host of the
00:1491st Oscars in December. Controversy erupted due to the comedian's past online
00:18comments. He had written some homophobic tweets back in 2011. He was asked to
00:21apologize for said tweets, refused to do so, and then stepped down from the gig,
00:24but then promptly issued the apology which could have saved him his job in the
00:27first place. Then Ellen DeGeneres invited Hart on her show, where she explained
00:30that she'd called the Academy on his behalf and they would take him back if he
00:33was so inclined. He said he'd think about it, people said DeGeneres was giving him a
00:36pass for his bad behavior. Hart apologized once more to the LGBTQ community and then
00:40announced that he was over the whole Oscars debacle and would not be hosting
00:43the annual event. The actor and comic has since been announced as the star of
00:48Lionsgate's new live-action Monopoly movie, which he will also co-produce. He is also
00:53confirmed for the sequel to Sony's Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle, which will
00:57also star Okafina, Danny Glover and Danny DeVito, alongside returning stars Dwayne
01:01Johnson, Jack Black and Karen Gillan. Now it has been revealed that Hart is also going to
01:06be teaming with Sony on a feature called Fatherhood from About a Boy director
01:10Paul Veitz. Based on Matt Loughlin's memoir Two Kisses for Maddie, a memoir of
01:14loss and love, Fatherhood follows a man whose wife dies shortly after childbirth,
01:18leaving him to raise their daughter on his own. Says Hart,
01:21When I started reading this script, I was immediately touched and brought to tears. At
01:25Heartbeat, we seek to provide the audience with stories that evoke true emotions, and
01:29this story does just that.
01:31Hart can currently be seen in The Upside, opposite Bryan Cranston and Nicole Kidman, and
01:35can be heard on his SiriusXM podcast Straight From The Heart. He was not replaced by anyone
01:40as host of the Oscars, with the Academy instead opting to feature a revolving cast of
01:43presenters and special guests. To read more on the story, head to THR.com. For The Hollywood Reporter News, I'm
