00:00If you talk to me, then I will guide you.
00:02Every day, we're being bombarded by scammers.
00:06I've got no money in my bank.
00:08I'm on, I have to pay.
00:11But we are fighting back.
00:13Working with ethical hacker Jim Browning, who hacks into scam call centres,
00:18we can tap into this criminal network and track down the victims to stop the scammers before they steal.
00:25You should not buy those gift cards.
00:26You're going to lose your money.
00:28What was that? What was that?
00:29I can assure you that nothing they're saying is true.
00:32You're on the phone to a scammer, Malik. You need to hang up the phone.
00:35All right!
00:37This is Scam Interceptors.
00:43On today's episode, scammers lose their cool when a victim doesn't play ball.
00:50Are you behind me with your card number?
00:51No, no, because it means I'm buying something and it's got payable, £150.
00:57You are not buying something.
01:00You are not buying something.
01:00My phone's ringing.
01:02Well, what do you want me to do?
01:09You need to simply log into your account.
01:11Now, do what I am saying, otherwise right now I will send the police in your house.
01:17In the Glasgow scam hub, ethical hacker Jim Browning has joined the team for the day.
01:23He's just alerted them to a new scam call centre based in the Indian city of Kolkata.
01:30Scammers there appear to be posing as internet service providers, BT.
01:34Now, select a service.
01:38Click on select a service.
01:40So, I think this is very much the latter stages of an internet provider impersonation scam here.
01:45They've got him signing up for online banking.
01:49The scammers will have told the man that his internet connection needs repairing
01:53and that they are calling to try and fix it.
01:58Your first name, what is your first name, sir?
02:01Your last name, what is your last name?
02:08The scammer has convinced the man who will call Gregor to protect his identity
02:13to download an app called AnyDesk.
02:16It's legitimate software that is used to carry out IT-related tasks remotely
02:21and allows people to work while away from their device.
02:25But the scammers are abusing it,
02:27using it to trick this man into giving away control of his phone to steal from him.
02:33All we know is this guy's name so far.
02:36And just put your house number or the street name.
02:40Here we go, we're getting a house number and a street name.
02:43Um, I have a hat on the phone book.
02:46So, if it...
02:46Is it house number three?
02:47The man appears to have been persuaded that hackers have been causing his internet problems
02:53and that he'll need to hand over control of his device
02:56so that the scammer can check that his internet is secure.
03:01In fact, all they want to do is get into his bank accounts.
03:05The team listen in for the man's contact details.
03:08You got a landline as well?
03:09Yeah.
03:10Er, he could potentially actually be on his landline
03:13and they've remote accessed into his mobile
03:15because it doesn't look like there's an ongoing call.
03:17Can you hear me, sir? Hello?
03:19I'm just going to try and phone this man
03:22because at the moment we are struggling.
03:24We've got one number for him,
03:27but that could be the line that he's on.
03:32Gregor is speaking to the scammer on the only number we have for him,
03:36meaning we need to look for other ways of contacting him.
03:41Hello?
03:42Oh, it's so rude.
03:45So, Harleen, did you say you've got a phone number for the neighbour?
03:48I've got a phone number for the neighbour, yeah.
03:50And unfortunately, according to 192, I think lives alone.
03:56OK, he's got a call waiting, but he's not reacting to it.
04:00No.
04:01So, I think, Harleen, with you finding a neighbour's number,
04:04I think, given this man's age and vulnerability,
04:07I think we're going to have to phone it.
04:08Yeah, I agree.
04:09We think the man lives alone,
04:11meaning the scammer can proceed with his lies
04:13without any distractions.
04:16And with our nearest team of ground interceptors 75 miles away,
04:20we've no chance of reaching him in time.
04:23We have to get hold of him on the phone.
04:25You have to put your password.
04:28Oh, no, I don't know.
04:30What do you know then?
04:30If you don't know anything, then how are you using your bank?
04:33If you don't know your online banking password?
04:36Um...
04:37You don't know that.
04:40Just a minute.
04:42Just check it.
04:42Have you written down anywhere on a piece of paper?
04:46Just check it.
04:47Oh, no.
04:50Whenever you...
04:51Oh, they're so rude.
04:54Right, I'm going to try...
04:55It says your session has expired.
04:57Right, I'm going to try and phone him.
05:04It's possible to connect your call.
05:06Please try again later.
05:09What's that?
05:09Right.
05:11Enter your...
05:12It's just answer.
05:12Answer the phone.
05:13Gregor isn't responding to our calls to his landline.
05:17And his neighbours aren't picking up either.
05:20Whatever you're putting on your mobile is being only visible to you.
05:22Even I am not asking.
05:24It is your bank who is asking, OK?
05:26So just put it, sir.
05:27But that means that you're going to have access to my account.
05:30Here we go.
05:31He's clocking it.
05:31Yes, we...
05:32Once I give you this information...
05:33We cannot have access to your account.
05:34So whatever you will do, it is password protected.
05:37How we can use your account.
05:39So he's getting nervous, which is good.
05:43So I'm guessing it's this row of three little cottages here.
05:52That's perfect, though.
05:53You've got a number, Harleen.
05:54No, that's my only account.
05:56I can't do this.
05:58Yeah, you can't do this, so don't be worried.
06:00We will secure your email.
06:02We will secure your email now, OK?
06:04Yeah, don't worry.
06:05It appears that the scammer has, unbeknownst to Gregor,
06:09now got full control of his mobile phone.
06:11I will help you out, sir.
06:13If you can't be able to do that, I will secure your email.
06:16Now, please do not touch your mobile, OK?
06:19It's my request.
06:20But it seems as if the scammer is having difficulty,
06:23so he's forced to try something else.
06:26Guys are about to buy gift cards.
06:27A clearly frustrated scammer vents to his colleagues.
06:39Tried a number of neighbours.
06:41Either numbers don't work or they don't pick up.
06:44We have to reach Gregor.
06:45Our attempts to contact his neighbours have come to nothing.
06:49So Interceptor Harleen throws the net wider.
06:51I have got a number for a business.
06:55And that is a mobile number with it as well.
06:58Yeah, he's not.
06:59He's got a call waiting.
07:00It's not working.
07:01OK.
07:02Right, what's this business, guys?
07:03So we are here to help you out, sir.
07:06You don't have to be panicked every time, OK?
07:09You just cooperate with us.
07:10I am telling you, you will be the happy customer, OK?
07:14Good morning, Debbie speaking.
07:19Debbie, hello.
07:20Sorry to call you out the blue like this.
07:22My name's Rav Wilding.
07:23Debbie, there's someone very close to your place of work
07:26who is currently being scammed
07:27and he's at risk of losing a huge amount of money.
07:29He's just down the road from where I believe your business is.
07:32Is there any chance anyone from your place of work
07:35could go and just tell him he's being scammed
07:36and to get off the phone?
07:40Um, yes, I can try.
07:42Debbie, it would be incredible.
07:43He's literally in the process of being talked
07:46into buying gift cards for scammers,
07:49which are of a huge amount of money to this man.
07:52He's literally buying them now, Debbie.
07:55We're watching it on the screen.
07:56I'm so sorry.
07:57No worries, Debbie.
08:01Suddenly, at the same time,
08:03we see the scammer type what appears to be
08:05Gregor's mobile number on his screen.
08:08Debbie, it's happening right now.
08:10If there's any chance you can get over there,
08:11I'm so sorry to push you.
08:12Give me that number.
08:13Give me that number.
08:13Give me that number.
08:14Just phone it.
08:16Gregor appears to be getting suspicious.
08:18It's got a gift card.
08:19It's got a thing saying gift card.
08:22Because we are going to send you the compensation.
08:25Well, what's going on?
08:26The scammer is getting desperate.
08:28All pretense at being from an internet provider
08:31has gone out of the window,
08:32and he's now just trying to shamelessly steal from Gregor.
08:36Can you see he's asking for the card number?
08:38Or are you behind him with your card number?
08:39No, no, because it means I'm buying something.
08:44It's got payable, £150.
08:46You are not buying something.
08:49No, that's what's coming up.
08:52It's got £150.
08:53The team can now try to reach Gregor
09:03on what we think could be his mobile.
09:06There it is.
09:07Here it comes.
09:07It's private.
09:08They're all coming up private.
09:09Yeah.
09:09Oh, he's had to claim.
09:10That's a scammer doing that.
09:12Yeah, I'm just going to block him
09:12from buying the gift card by continuously calling.
09:15Try and delay this as much as we can.
09:16Yeah.
09:17Give us that number.
09:18I'll do the same.
09:19Guys, give Rob the number as well.
09:20What's the number?
09:22My phone's ringing.
09:23Let it be.
09:24Let it be ringing.
09:27Now, you need to just type over here
09:30your card number, OK?
09:33Hello?
09:35Hello?
09:36Are you talking to me?
09:38No.
09:39Hello?
09:39We can't get through to Gregor on his mobile,
09:42but it sounds as if our calls
09:44are at least disrupting the scammer's line.
09:47Hello?
09:48Nick also tries calling his landline again.
09:53But...
09:54Hello?
09:55This is the telephone.
09:55Voicemail service for...
09:59Someone's ringing his house.
10:01Come on.
10:01Let it be ringing, sir,
10:04because they are the hacker.
10:05They are ringing you,
10:06so we cannot block them.
10:08And that is the reason they are ringing you.
10:12No.
10:15Someone else is also trying to reach Gregor,
10:19repeatedly calling his landline.
10:22My what?
10:23Sorry?
10:23What are you talking about now?
10:24The scammer can see our calls coming through.
10:28But because he's controlling the mobile phone,
10:31he keeps declining them.
10:33You're behind with your card?
10:36What card?
10:38Your card, sir.
10:39Card.
10:40Your credit card.
10:42So we can secure that one as well.
10:45OK?
10:45No, I don't want to do...
10:47You might give my credit card to anyone.
10:50Why would I want to do that?
10:51We have to tread carefully.
10:53Too much activity from our end,
10:55and the scammer will sus we're listening in.
10:58Meaning we'll likely lose our access
11:00to this scam call centre entirely.
11:02This is going...
11:03This is going crazy.
11:05Sir, it's not going crazy.
11:07This is the last procedure.
11:08Then you will see the security will be installed 100%.
11:11No.
11:11And then you can use everything.
11:12I'm not doing that because it's...
11:14It's...
11:14It's...
11:15I'm buying...
11:16He's certainly got doubt now.
11:17Then, apparently frustrated
11:20at our continuous disruption,
11:22the scammer accepts our call.
11:24He activates Gregor's loudspeaker
11:26in the hope he can work out who we are.
11:29Hello, s***.
11:30Please hang up the phone.
11:31You're speaking to a scammer.
11:32Hang up the phone.
11:48All their scammers.
11:49Hang up the phone.
11:49Oh, right.
11:50OK.
11:52Hang up the phone.
11:57The scammer can hear my voice.
11:59Have you hung up?
12:02Yes.
12:04This is important.
12:05You need to turn your phone off.
12:09Scammers hang it up.
12:10The scammer's got control.
12:12The scammer's back to cancelling our calls
12:14to Gregor's mobile.
12:15But we have no other option
12:17than to keep trying.
12:19And it sounds like they're on to us.
12:29The person that is speaking
12:30is a scammer.
12:32Right.
12:33Where's Debbie?
12:37Just keep trying that line.
12:38That's so hard.
12:39I couldn't tell him who we were
12:40because I know that they were all listening.
12:42The scammers are desperate
12:44to find out who we are,
12:46even trying to open Gregor's phone camera
12:48to see if that gives them any clues.
12:51They've just opened this man's camera.
12:52Oh, wow.
12:52Yeah.
12:53Hello.
12:54That's horrifically invasive.
12:56They are just awful doing that.
13:00Eventually, we managed to get Gregor
13:02back on his mobile.
13:04But only because we think
13:06the scammer is allowing our call to connect,
13:08most likely so he can listen in
13:10and find out who we are.
13:14This is Rao.
13:14I just spoke to you on the phone
13:16about the person you were talking to
13:18being a scammer.
13:19Well, I believe they're listening to you now.
13:22Oh, right.
13:24Yeah.
13:24And I think they've still got control
13:26of your device.
13:26They could probably stop this call
13:28at any minute
13:28and you must speak to your bank.
13:31That's right.
13:31Well, I declined to give them the information
13:35because they wanted a credit card
13:38and stuff like that.
13:39What they have done, though,
13:41is put something on your device
13:43that allows them to see
13:44and control your phone.
13:46So when you're looking at your phone,
13:48whatever you look at on your screen,
13:49they can see that.
13:50With the scammer potentially still listening in,
13:53we carefully talk Gregor through
13:55removing the remote access software
13:57and eventually the scammer
14:00finally loses his access.
14:03A short while later,
14:05Debbie rings back.
14:08Is that Debbie?
14:10Debbie, hi, Debbie.
14:11How are you getting on?
14:11What's happened?
14:12Did you manage to get round?
14:13Yes, I got round to the house
14:15and he answered the door.
14:16He said he'd just put the phone down.
14:21Oh, that's brilliant.
14:22You've really helped him.
14:24And you've totally saved him.
14:26And for him to hear you say
14:29that it's a scam as well,
14:30just that reassurance he needs
14:31because they were so convincing,
14:34I think we've managed to stop it collectively,
14:36which is brilliant.
14:37And Debbie, you going round
14:38and actually helping him
14:39is just fantastic.
14:41That's all right.
14:42I'd forgotten how far away.
14:43Oh, I'm so sorry, Debbie.
14:46I'm so sorry.
14:48Debbie, honestly,
14:49you've been so helpful
14:50and you've really helped that man.
14:51So thank you so much
14:52for everything today.
14:53That's all right.
14:54All right.
14:55All right, take care.
14:56Get your breath back.
14:57Bye-bye.
14:59She's gone round, yeah,
15:00and she managed to speak to him
15:01and he said,
15:01Jay, just put the phone down.
15:02So it's brilliant that we've spoken to her.
15:04Woof.
15:04Yeah.
15:05Well done, team.
15:06What a save.
15:06If you are being pressured
15:18into buying a gift card for someone else,
15:20just stop and take a moment.
15:23Neither the bank, the police,
15:24nor any legitimate company
15:26will ever ask you to make a payment
15:28via a gift card.
15:30If you have purchased any cards,
15:32never share the numbers on the back
15:34or send photos of the cards to anyone.
15:36If you think you've been the victim
15:38of a gift card scam,
15:40there are a few steps
15:41you should take immediately.
15:43Call your bank,
15:45report the fraud,
15:46and tell them you've been tricked
15:47into making the payment.
15:50Contact the gift card company directly.
15:53They may be able to put a stop
15:54to the money being redeemed.
15:57Report to Action Fraud,
15:58the UK's central point
16:00for reporting fraud to the police.
16:01If you're in Scotland,
16:03contact the police on 101.
16:11Q as in queen.
16:14Yes.
16:16Then number five.
16:18Yeah.
16:19Back in the scam hub,
16:20and Nick's been alerted
16:21to another urgent ongoing scam.
16:24It's being run
16:25from the same Kolkata-based scam call centre
16:28that tried to steal Gregor's money.
16:32You?
16:33Team, Jim has got something for us here.
16:35What's going on?
16:36He's just messaged me
16:37to say that he's added
16:39a new connection for us,
16:40and it seems that they've already got
16:41remote access to her mobile phone.
16:44Oh.
16:44And they might be using it
16:45to send money to themselves
16:47because they've asked her
16:48not to look at her phone,
16:49and they're trying to keep her
16:50in a different room.
16:51So she's talking to them
16:52on a landline away
16:53from where the mobile phone is.
16:56Start now.
16:57Click on start now.
16:58Not recording.
16:58Click on start.
16:59Yeah.
17:00Now, leave your mobile phone
17:01as it is, ma'am,
17:02and go to the different room
17:03because I will tell you
17:04the last reference number, okay?
17:07So can we get the GIs
17:09on the road?
17:12Ground interceptors Nathan and Lauren
17:14are based in Manchester,
17:16about an hour away
17:17from where we think
17:18this person lives.
17:19Hey, guys, right,
17:23we've got an urgent one
17:24that's just come in.
17:24This has come direct from Jim.
17:26It's remote access
17:27on someone's device,
17:28and we think they're in a lot
17:29of danger of transferring money.
17:32Nick, you've just seen
17:32the email from Jim,
17:33haven't you?
17:34Yes.
17:34What we know is that
17:35they've definitely got
17:36remote access on her mobile,
17:38and right now they're trying
17:39to transfer money to themselves
17:41on her mobile.
17:42They are talking to her
17:43on the landline, though,
17:44so we can't reach her
17:45because all we've got
17:46is the landline number.
17:48As soon as we get
17:49more details,
17:50we'll send them over to you.
17:51We'll get there
17:51as soon as we can.
17:52Cheers, guys.
17:53Thanks, guys.
17:54Try safe.
17:56We think that the woman
17:57at risk has been told
17:59by the scammer
18:00that her internet
18:01has been hacked.
18:04Jim has given us access
18:05to the scammer's phone call,
18:07and though we can hear
18:08what he's saying,
18:09we don't have access
18:10to his screen.
18:12But it sounds like
18:14the victim might be about
18:15to hand over
18:16all her car details,
18:18which the scammer
18:19will use to steal her money.
18:21We need to get in touch
18:22with her fast.
18:24Harleen, can you have a look
18:25around the area
18:25of that address
18:26to see if there's anything,
18:27if we need to go down
18:29that route
18:29of getting a neighbour
18:30to bang on the door,
18:31if it gets to that point?
18:33Initially,
18:34it doesn't look like
18:34there are any neighbour's numbers
18:36that are on there,
18:37so I'll just keep
18:37having a look.
18:41Now, write it down,
18:42I believe we are writing
18:43on the details
18:44of the engineer
18:45who's visiting, ma'am,
18:46right,
18:47whose name is John Dyer,
18:49OK?
18:50And you write it down,
18:51his reference number,
18:53OK?
18:56The scammer claims
18:57that an engineer,
18:58a so-called John Dyer,
19:00will come to the woman's house
19:02to carry out work
19:03on her supposedly
19:04hacked internet router.
19:05He's also claiming
19:08that because of this,
19:09her bank accounts
19:10have been compromised
19:11and need security measures
19:13installing to secure them.
19:15And you have also
19:16a credit card, ma'am.
19:17Do you have a credit card
19:19as well?
19:20So we can secure,
19:21might be sometimes,
19:23yeah, tell me.
19:24Yeah, that's...
19:25That is also
19:27a credit card, right?
19:28We have to secure
19:29that one as well,
19:30all right?
19:31We will check it.
19:32Wait, give me a moment.
19:33While the scammer
19:35distracts the woman
19:36by getting her
19:37to write down
19:38her credit card details,
19:39we think he is busy
19:41looking at her mobile phone
19:42via the software
19:44he persuaded her
19:45to download earlier.
19:47Because we have to also
19:49secure your credit card,
19:50OK?
19:52Oh, he's going to go
19:53for everything now.
19:54Oh, dear.
19:55Because this security
19:57which we are installing,
19:58it will be registered
19:59under your name
20:00and nobody can use it
20:02without your permission,
20:03ma'am, right?
20:04This is for your security
20:06which we are doing, ma'am.
20:07Right, but is it...
20:09Not at all, ma'am.
20:10Not at all.
20:11You don't be worried.
20:13No, no, no.
20:14Just wait.
20:15Our server is helping
20:16you right now.
20:18Have you ever used
20:19your PayPal app
20:21on your mobile, ma'am?
20:22What's he trying to...
20:23PayPal now?
20:24Do we hear PayPal?
20:26It sounds like
20:27the scammer
20:28is asking the woman
20:29to give him
20:30the details of every bank
20:31or money transfer app
20:33that she uses.
20:34The more details
20:36he gets his hands on,
20:37the more vulnerable
20:38the woman becomes.
20:41The ground interceptors
20:43are still some distance away
20:44and Harleen
20:45hasn't been able
20:46to narrow down
20:47contact details
20:48for the woman.
20:49I've been going through
20:52the 192
20:52of neighbours
20:53and stuff like that
20:54and trying to cross-reference
20:55with social media
20:56to get some more deep.
20:58Now, ma'am,
20:58type your first name
21:00and last name
21:00over there.
21:01Just type your first name
21:02and last name
21:03because we are delivering.
21:06Yeah?
21:07Is this to do...
21:08Is this to do with a...
21:11I've just seen something
21:16about a gift card or something?
21:17Because it is just a plan
21:18to block those hackers, ma'am,
21:20with the help of this, okay?
21:22It's not a gift card
21:23because this security
21:24is registering under your name
21:25so nobody can use it
21:27without your permission.
21:28You will get an email
21:29about this as well, ma'am.
21:30You don't be worried.
21:31You just type your first name
21:33and last name over there,
21:34whatever he's asking.
21:35Just type it from your end.
21:38The woman sounds suspicious
21:40but the scammer
21:42gets her back on track.
21:43And then type your email address
21:48which is the Outlook one, right?
21:50The one, right?
21:51You can log in to this one
21:53and you can check the email, right?
21:54Yes.
21:55Okay.
21:56An email, something,
21:58Outlook, something.
21:59Jim's listening back to his recording
22:00to see if he can get it.
22:02Okay, now wait.
22:04Yes.
22:05Now you need to be handy
22:09with your credit card
22:10which we are going to secure
22:11which you have.
22:16The scammer is closing in.
22:19Now, over there you will see
22:21the long 16-digit number.
22:23You have to type that number over here.
22:25Just type it.
22:26No, please don't do that.
22:27Unable to find a contact
22:33for the woman
22:33due to a lack
22:34of available information online
22:35and with Nathan and Lauren
22:37still 25 minutes away,
22:40our options for stopping this woman
22:42handing over her card details
22:43to the scammer
22:44are running out.
22:45Yeah, yeah.
22:50Where is asking?
22:51Over the top of this.
22:52Oh, no.
22:53The number, the full number.
22:55You don't have to do any mistake, okay?
22:56Have we given everything
22:57to the GIs that we can?
23:00She's really struggling
23:01to write down her card details
23:02which is great for us.
23:04She just gives us a bit of time,
23:05doesn't it?
23:09Has she gone on hold?
23:11I'm just consulting with Jim
23:13on what kind of delaying tactics
23:14we could use
23:14to try and stop any transaction
23:15from going through
23:16until these guys
23:17actually manage to get there.
23:19I call Nathan and Lauren.
23:21Okay.
23:23Okay, this is getting
23:25really critical now.
23:27We can hear they're asking
23:28for every type of card
23:29she's got access to,
23:30credit cards, banking cards.
23:32We're pretty sure
23:33they've got at least
23:35remote access on one device,
23:36maybe even more.
23:38Yeah, okay.
23:38We're racing there.
23:39We'll get there ASAP.
23:40We'll get there as soon as we can.
23:41Thanks for the update, guys.
23:43Drive safe.
23:43But, just as we're about
23:47to lose hope...
23:49You have to type the expiry date
23:51and just check the name, ma'am.
23:52The name which is printed
23:53on your card, it is...
23:55Two seconds, guys.
23:55Just check it is...
23:56Or it is Mrs.
24:02Type it there.
24:02Oh, yeah, sorry.
24:04It's Mr...
24:05Husband.
24:06Yeah.
24:06It is Mr...
24:08Right.
24:10Okay.
24:11It is Mr, not Mrs.
24:13Yes.
24:14Okay, okay.
24:15And what is the number over there?
24:18The expiry date?
24:20If you are facing problem,
24:22you tell me, ma'am.
24:22You just put the month
24:23and then the year, okay?
24:27Credit card is it tomorrow?
24:29Credit card is it tomorrow?
24:30Is my credit...
24:30He was just saying in Hindi,
24:32he was like,
24:32the credit card's not hers,
24:33it's not working.
24:33But it's not a credit card,
24:36it's just a normal debit card.
24:37So now the security been installed,
24:39you can use your internet
24:40as usual, ma'am, okay?
24:44All right.
24:45So take care, ma'am,
24:46and you have a lovely day
24:47because the security is installed.
24:48Thank you, ma'am.
24:49Have a lovely day, ma'am.
24:51Bye.
24:51What?
24:52I missed that.
24:53What was that?
24:54I think it's a give up.
24:55It seems the scammer
24:56has thrown in the towel.
24:58The credit card the woman has
25:00was in her husband's name
25:01and the scammer
25:02seemed unable
25:03to make any sort of payment with it.
25:06But the victim
25:07isn't yet out of the woods.
25:10We still need to get onto it.
25:11Well, they've got remote access.
25:12All of her information,
25:13they've got remote access to her phone.
25:15It looks like scam's off,
25:16but she will have
25:17all of that information
25:18and access on their phone.
25:20We call the ground interceptors again.
25:23Hey, both.
25:24Got a quick update for you.
25:25We've just heard
25:26the scammer
25:27actually terminate the call
25:28and I think the scammer
25:30essentially gave up.
25:32We know that there is
25:33at least one device of hers
25:34that's had remote access,
25:36which means they can obviously
25:37see everything that's on there.
25:39So it's still really crucial
25:40we get there then.
25:41Yeah.
25:41I mean, there is a chance
25:44the scammer might call back anyway,
25:45isn't there?
25:45I think she'd really appreciate
25:47some support.
25:49No worries.
25:49Thanks, guys.
25:50Hey, thank you both.
25:52Good luck, both.
25:52A few minutes later,
25:55Lauren and Nathan arrive,
25:56but as we haven't yet spoken
25:58to the woman,
25:59she has no idea
26:00they are coming.
26:04She's in there.
26:06I don't know if she wants
26:07to answer the door
26:08to a stranger.
26:10Thankfully,
26:11the woman answers
26:12her door to Lauren.
26:14My name's Lauren.
26:15I work for the BBC
26:16on a programme called
26:17Scam Interceptors.
26:18And I think you've been
26:18on the phone to a scammer.
26:20We're here purely
26:21for aftercare purposes,
26:22so we can help
26:22as much as you need us
26:23to help.
26:24What our team in Glasgow
26:25have said is that
26:26they've got quite a lot
26:27of your bank information now.
26:29I've been on the phone
26:30an hour and a half.
26:31And I understand that
26:32this is quite a stressful situation.
26:33But what I would like
26:34to do for you,
26:35if it's OK,
26:36is remove the remote
26:37access software
26:38off your phone,
26:39because as long as
26:39whatever device it was
26:40you were speaking to,
26:41is that OK?
26:42All right.
26:43Thank you so much.
26:47We've been allowed
26:48into the house
26:49and we have just
26:51gone on the phone
26:53and we've found
26:54the remote access software.
26:56So what I'm going to do,
26:57I'm going to remove
26:57this software
26:58and hopefully
27:01that should be
27:01the end of it.
27:02Satisfied that the woman
27:03is now safe
27:04from the scammers,
27:05Nathan and Lauren
27:06update the hub.
27:11Hey, guys,
27:12how you doing?
27:12How'd you get on?
27:14It was good.
27:15Successful trip,
27:16I think.
27:17Yeah,
27:17and we ended up
27:18removing three
27:19different remote
27:20access softwares
27:21from her phone.
27:21Wow.
27:22She was really shaken
27:23up when we got there.
27:24Luckily,
27:25her husband was there
27:26as well,
27:26so he went out
27:28to the bank
27:28to get their cards
27:29cancelled.
27:30Yeah,
27:30it was a very worthwhile
27:31trip and, you know,
27:32I think they were
27:32really grateful
27:33for our visit.
27:34Yeah.
27:35That is a fantastic result.
27:37Well done, guys.
27:38We'll catch up
27:38with you soon.
27:39Top work.
27:39It's been another
27:43busy day in the hub,
27:44chasing the most
27:45devious of scammers
27:46to avert any money
27:48being lost.
27:49We tried to get in
27:51touch with the people
27:51working in this
27:52Kolkata-based call centre,
27:54but as of yet,
27:55we haven't received
27:56a response.
27:58We also reported
28:00the entire operation
28:01to the authorities,
28:03both here in the UK
