00:00If you talk to me, then I will guide you.
00:03Every day, we're being bombarded by scammers.
00:06I've got no money in my bank.
00:08I'm on, I have to pay.
00:11But we are fighting back.
00:13Working with ethical hacker Jim Browning, who hacks into scam call centres,
00:18we can tap into this criminal network and track down the victims to stop the scammers before they steal.
00:25You should not buy those gickers.
00:26You're going to lose your money.
00:28What was that? What was that?
00:29I can assure you that nothing they're saying is true.
00:32You're on the phone to a scammer, my love. You need to hang up the phone.
00:36All right!
00:37This is Scam Interceptors.
00:45On today's episode...
00:47I'm on call.
00:48Okay, thank you.
00:49Yeah, please.
00:51All right, thank you. Receive.
00:53We see the incredible length scammers will go to to steal from a man.
00:58It's like a full-on theatrical production that goes on.
01:01You've got a cast of characters here and actual props that are helping this person get them through the door of the scam.
01:07It's quite shocking to hear.
01:08Oh, gosh.
01:09There's no one.
01:10There's no one.
01:12In the Glasgow Scam Hub.
01:15Hello?
01:15Hello?
01:16Hi.
01:17Did you got to know what exactly is happening with your national insurance number?
01:21No, no, I think no.
01:22The team have tuned in to quite a progressed scam call.
01:27One of the new groups that Jim has given us access to this year, they are posing as the National Crime Agency.
01:33And they are pretending that the people they call essentially are facing arrest if they don't comply with what they say.
01:42So it's a really serious, really scary scam.
01:45Basically, your national insurance number has been compromised.
01:51These scammers have nothing to do with the National Crime Agency, the UK's lead agency fighting against organized crime and fraud.
01:59But they have already convinced the man that he's now speaking to a police officer from his local police station,
02:07who's working on the so-called case of identity theft.
02:10And the person, they have created four illegal bank accounts under your name.
02:16With the banks, like Royal Bank of Scotland, Telifex, Royal Bank of Scotland.
02:21Yeah.
02:22The man has been told his identity is being used by criminals to open bank accounts in his name.
02:29We know he's on the phone to fraudsters.
02:33We've got a bit of information on these guys who are seemingly impersonating the police.
02:37From what Jim said, they're in multiple different locations, but one of them at least is in Srinagar.
02:41And we believe that these scammers, whose victim is a man somewhere in the UK, are based in the Indian-administered city of Srinagar.
02:51And from those bank accounts, the money is getting transacted overseas to Mexico, Colombia and U.S.
02:57The man is now being told that money has been criminally spent overseas from the bank accounts in his name, leaving him in the frame.
03:09But I think we know what's going to happen, don't we?
03:11Yeah, we do.
03:12Eventually, the scammer will claim that in order for the man to clear his name in this criminal case, he'll need to prove who he is.
03:20Now, the way you prove that is by going out and buying gift cards.
03:24And the moment the codes on those gift cards are shared, your money's gone.
03:28As of now, we don't know who the person is.
03:30It could be anyone, but make sure do not share this information to anyone else out there.
03:36No, no.
03:37The man is falling deeper into the scam.
03:41What number is this?
03:42This is 802.
03:43Yeah.
03:43And the only information we have for him is the mobile number he's on with the scammer, which he likely won't answer.
03:52Calling it could also blow our cover with this call centre, stopping us being able to help any of their other victims.
04:00I want to just try and hear some more details.
04:02We can't trust any other person apart from you.
04:05It could be anyone.
04:07So, Mr Silas, right now...
04:10Mr Silas was that?
04:12Silas, yeah.
04:12We now have what we think is the man's name.
04:16And with his mobile number, the team can now try to search for an address for him,
04:21as ground interceptors Harrieta Meir are standing by to help.
04:26We can suspend all of those fake bank accounts which is connected to your name.
04:30But the problem is your genuine bank accounts that will also get permanently closed.
04:36But do not worry.
04:37The government, they have chosen the ADR protocol.
04:40ADR stands for alternative dispute resolution which will protect your funds and link all of your bank accounts back with the help of new national insurance numbers.
04:49First of all, we will suspend those fraudulent bank accounts, okay?
04:53Yeah.
04:54Mr Silas seems to believe the scammer is a police officer, helping him clear his name and protect his allegedly compromised finances.
05:04So, how we can protect the funds right now so that we can highlight that you don't have any illegal transactions which came from your accounts to the Mexico, Colombia and USA?
05:16Because Mr Silas, all of the evidences are against you.
05:19It's all really seriously panic-inducing stuff and just typical scam material, I would say.
05:26The scammer is trying to scare Mr Silas into believing that the only way he can prove the fake bank accounts aren't his is by making legal transactions from his own genuine bank account.
05:39We know this will be in the form of buying gift cards for the scammers.
05:45The team continue to look up Mr Silas' mobile number to try and find his address.
05:50The person who is using your insurance number, we haven't catch them yet.
05:55Once we're going to suspect...
05:56I'm getting no hits for that number so far.
05:58No, I'm not.
05:59Me neither.
06:00Allow me a moment, Mr Silas.
06:01I got the wireless from the department.
06:04Uni 27, I got connected to Mr Silas.
06:07Oh, no way.
06:09Yeah, Officer Michael Tiazzo, he's connected with me now.
06:12I'm on call with him and let me just tell him about the situation so far, okay?
06:17Yeah, please.
06:17Let me ask him whether he is using WhatsApp on his number or not.
06:23Amazing bit of window dressing from the scammers there.
06:25They were pretending to be talking to somebody, sounded like on a walkie-talkie, who was also part of this supposed investigation.
06:32And the scammer sort of put him on hold for a minute, but without muting him.
06:36And then spoke to somebody else in a very official-sounding way.
06:41Certainly something that's pretty scary to hear if you're on the phone to one of these scammers and you think there's awful things happening to you.
06:46Mr Silas, do you use WhatsApp on your number?
06:49Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:50The scammers want to contact Mr Silas via the messaging app on his mobile, WhatsApp, claiming to be the National Crime Agency.
07:00Would the actual National Crime Agency ever send you a WhatsApp?
07:04Definitely not.
07:06Definitely not.
07:07So I guess that's something to think about when they're saying these things, right?
07:10Yes.
07:11When the scammer eventually convinces Mr Silas to buy gift cards, he'll be instructed to send photos of them and their unique codes to the so-called NCA, allowing the scammers to steal them and his money will be gone.
07:26Mr Silas is giving the scammer a different number to message him on from the one he's on.
07:41Oh, interesting.
07:42So he's got a number from a different country?
07:44Yeah, yeah.
07:47Okay.
07:50He's got a Ugandan number that he's using for WhatsApp?
07:53Yeah.
07:53We now think that Mr Silas may be Ugandan, living in the UK.
07:58Interestingly, his UK number also does have a WhatsApp, though.
08:04The picture is just of a pair of trainers.
08:08Okay.
08:09With no clues yet as to where Mr Silas may live to try and intercept in person, fortunately, the scam hasn't moved to the money-stealing stage yet, so the team don't risk phoning Mr Silas.
08:21I don't want to go that hard as that this soon, because I don't want to lose our access.
08:24Yeah.
08:25Let me give this up to the National Crime Agency so that they can text onto your website.
08:29Three, two, three.
08:32Units, it's plus two, five, six.
08:34There's a country goat from Uganda.
08:37This walkie-talkie thing is crazy.
08:40All right, thank you, I received it, all right.
08:43That is crazy.
08:44Bizarre.
08:46Mr Silas, so I have all of the information to the NCA legal team.
08:50They will text onto your WhatsApp about the situation, all right?
08:54It's like a full-on theatrical production that goes on to get people to believe what they're saying.
08:58You've got a cast of characters here and actual props that are helping this person get them through the door of the scam.
09:05It's quite shocking to hear.
09:07There is a new message from National Crime Agency.
09:10Can you check it?
09:11I don't see any message.
09:12You can turn on your internet.
09:14There's none.
09:14Maybe your internet is not on.
09:17Internet is on.
09:18It's not in a new message.
09:20The scammers need to make sure the WhatsApp message reaches Mr Silas so they can steal his cash.
09:27I will repeat it.
09:29It's plus two, five, six.
09:31That was, that was, that was.
09:36Luckily, the delay is buying us time to find out more about him.
09:41I don't know for sure, but I think Silas might be his first name.
09:45Yeah.
09:46Now using Silas as a first name, the team restart their search for an address for him in the hope we can dispatch the ground interceptors.
09:56We have forwarded a message on your number, plus two, five, six, okay?
10:01But there's no other message from you guys.
10:04No hits on the information we have said.
10:06Nothing at all.
10:06Nothing at all.
10:07There is a message that's gone.
10:09I don't know what's going on.
10:13I mean, he's looking at his phone.
10:14Should we just text him?
10:15What's that?
10:15Nick sends a scam warning text to Silas' Ugandan mobile.
10:21I've sent him scam warning, hang up and contact your bank immediately.
10:24The same mobile number the scammers are still trying to message.
10:29What is the profile picture of the number?
10:32The profile picture is in red.
10:34In red and white.
10:37Yeah, exactly.
10:38They have texted on the same number.
10:40The WhatsApp account's profile picture on Silas' Ugandan mobile could be a friend or family member.
10:47So the team start looking to see if that could give us any leads.
10:50They have texted the message, hi there.
10:53Can you check the latest message?
10:55But the team are still drawing blanks.
10:59No idea where he is.
11:00We have a mobile number and a first name.
11:02I think it's harder if we only have a first name as opposed to a surname.
11:05Absolutely.
11:07Nick sends Silas another text.
11:09They could be our only chance of saving him.
11:24Don't tell them the number.
11:25Just don't read the message.
11:26Just hang up.
11:28Hang on.
11:29The message that says...
11:33Scamming a warning, hang up and contact your bank immediately.
11:39Yeah, come on.
11:40Read that.
11:41That's a message.
11:42Message should be hi.
11:43Yes, but the other one, the other one is talking about there.
11:48Silas has both our text messages and the WhatsApp message from the scammers.
11:53We can only hope he believes our scam warnings.
11:57Hang on, mate.
11:58Come on.
11:58Message should be hi.
12:00Yes.
12:01Can you read out the message?
12:02There are ABR protocol with Inspector Freda Corp.
12:10That is my...
12:10I will do number 7747 regarding National Crime Agency.
12:16They've still got him.
12:17Come on.
12:18The clever criminal has kept Silas' focus on the scammers' message so that he ignores Nick's scam warnings.
12:26Can you reply them, the message that you...
12:28Okay, so I should have text back and I say what?
12:30Text them back.
12:31I am connected with the officer.
12:33Okay, right.
12:35We're almost had them there.
12:37This is hard.
12:38Nick sends more messages.
12:41Connected.
12:44Connected.
12:45But Silas is replying to the so-called National Crime Agency.
12:49In danger of losing his money, Nick decides it's time to risk blowing our cover and calling Silas.
12:57Try WhatsApp calling.
12:59With officer.
13:01Yeah, I've sent it.
13:03You have sent it?
13:04Okay.
13:07Silas isn't answering Nick's call.
13:11And the team keep trying to find any more information on Silas for an alternative way to help him.
13:17We need to intercept fast before the scammer gets hold of his cash.
13:45I'm texting him.
13:46I've texted him three times and I've tried to call him and I've sent him a WhatsApp message.
13:50Okay, so you have an Alifax Bank account in which it is having £300 in the current one.
13:55And in savings it is having £5,000, right?
13:58That's right.
13:59Oh my goodness.
13:59Yeah.
14:00What you have to do...
14:00There's a lot of money on me right here.
14:02...transfer £3,000 from your savings to your current one, okay?
14:05The scammer wants Silas' £3,000 of savings moved into his current account as it has a debit card they want him to use to buy the gift cards the fraudster wants to steal.
14:18And Silas still isn't answering Nick's call.
14:23So I have to transfer?
14:25Yeah, transfer from your own savings to your own current account.
14:28Literally getting him to move money right now.
14:31Oh my goodness.
14:31It's a turning one.
14:32Silas' money is now in imminent danger.
14:37I have no idea where he is as well.
14:39It's really, really tricky.
14:39Transfer from savings to current, £3,000.
14:42Okay.
14:44Why, why, why should I do that?
14:46Good question.
14:47Okay, the reason is because we want you to secure your funds that you have in your health account.
14:53First of all...
14:53You are right, you are right, yeah.
14:55Okay?
14:56What I'm going to do, I'm going to transfer all the money.
14:58Yeah, yeah, transfer all of the funds from your savings to current one, first of all.
15:02The scammer is trying to ease Silas' concerns about transferring £3,000 from the safety of his savings account.
15:10We have to stop the scam before he does.
15:14Nick sends him more warning texts.
15:17Let's just try and say, don't transfer any money.
15:19Are you 100%?
15:22I don't know.
15:23You are speaking to an officer, Fred Ricohle...
15:26He said, I'm not 100%.
15:27No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
15:29You guys...
15:31Silas seems to be having doubts.
15:33Quite rightly so.
15:34When somebody's asking you to transfer money, yeah, you should question it.
15:37You have got my details on WhatsApp.
15:40Yes, I got your details back.
15:42But now when you start telling me to transfer the money from my account,
15:46to the saving account, I'm going to lose all the money.
15:50Where are you calling from anyway?
15:51Where are you calling from?
15:52I am calling you from the Walworth Police Station.
15:56For the first time, we've heard which police station this scammer is pretending to be from.
16:02So, Walworth Police Station is South East London.
16:05As the scammers claim to be from their victim's local police station,
16:10we now know the rough area that Silas lives,
16:14helping us concentrate our search for an address
16:16in case we need to dispatch the ground team.
16:20What's your name? What's your name?
16:22No, no, no, what's your name?
16:23My name is Officer Fred Ricohle.
16:25But it sounds like Silas isn't sold on the scammers' story.
16:29Listen, listen, first you gave me Michael, then now we're getting down your Frederick.
16:36No, no, no, Officer Michael Tiazzo was from National Crime Agency
16:40and my name is Inspector Fred Ricohle from Walworth Police Station.
16:45I think I'm speaking to the scammers.
16:47Yes.
16:48He thinks they're scammers.
16:50Silas is on to the scammer.
16:52Because when you say to me,
16:54transfer the money from serving to current account,
16:58sometimes you want to take out the money from the account.
17:01Are you?
17:02How can I get your funds from your account?
17:07I don't have your...
17:07Why are you saying to me,
17:10you have to be alone in the house?
17:13No, no, no.
17:13Why are you saying that?
17:14Very valid questions.
17:15Good man, Silas.
17:16I'm saying not share this information to any other person.
17:20Can I speak to another officer around there, please?
17:24Yes, yes, you can speak to another officer.
17:26Be on call.
17:27Yeah, yeah, give me another officer.
17:30Oh, he's frustrated.
17:31And he wants to speak to somebody else.
17:34It seems the scammer has gone to get another so-called police officer on the line.
17:39Likely a more experienced fraudster.
17:42You guys are a scammer.
17:45He's his sister.
17:45He's saying they're scammers.
17:47But he still won't hang up the call.
17:49While Silas is on hold with the scammers...
17:52Give him a call just now, Nick, yeah.
17:54..this is our chance to get in touch with Silas,
17:58as he isn't out of danger until he ends his call.
18:04Come on, Nick.
18:07Come on.
18:10Come on, Silas, answer me.
18:11Silas isn't answering our call.
18:18Hello?
18:19Hello?
18:20This is Chief Counsel Brown in this side.
18:23Chief who?
18:26My name is Daniel Brown.
18:28I'm the Chief Counsel here.
18:31Chief Counsel?
18:32Yes.
18:33Another fraudster claiming to be a senior police officer is now on the line.
18:39I came to know that you're not cooperating with the officer.
18:43Yes, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not.
18:46You mean I'm calling the police right now?
18:48Do it.
18:48Yes.
18:49Who are we?
18:49I'm not 100%.
18:51He keeps on changing the names.
18:53He said to me, Michael.
18:54Then he said to me, Frederick.
18:56What's going on?
18:57Are you still...
18:58Then he said to me, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen.
19:01Listen, listen.
19:02Then he said to me,
19:04how's the money from my account to this account?
19:07Why is he saying that?
19:08I'm starting to get scared.
19:10As soon as the scammers brought up the idea of him moving money
19:13from his savings account to his current account,
19:15it completely sent him for a spin,
19:17and he started to suss,
19:18I think in combination with our message saying,
19:20scam warning,
19:20that these guys aren't who they say they are at all,
19:22and he's now fully questioning them.
19:24They've obviously got answers to this question.
19:26Listen to me.
19:27The first officer that was from the crime agency,
19:30of National Crime Agency here.
19:32Yes, I understand that.
19:34And the second officer was here from my police station, that is...
19:38So, okay,
19:39what's the number for the police station in New Orleans?
19:41It's good to hear someone being quite assertive.
19:44It is really good to see her.
19:46I'm hoping he's getting out of here.
19:46No, you need to do one thing.
19:47You need to come straight away, come to the police.
19:50There is an arrest warrant.
19:51We're going to arrest you there.
19:53Because it seems...
19:54Yes, yes, come on, arrest me.
19:57Come on, arrest me.
19:57Come here.
19:58You look like a scumman.
20:01End the coma.
20:02You look like a criminal.
20:04No, no, no, no, you look like a scumman.
20:07You're a scumman.
20:09You're a...
20:09Yes!
20:10Go on, Silas.
20:11He's gone.
20:12Good man.
20:13At last, Silas is off his call, but we can still hear the scammers.
20:19Criminal.
20:20You're a criminal.
20:21C***.
20:22Hopefully now, Silas will answer our call.
20:28BELL RINGS
20:29Hello.
20:33Hi.
20:34Hi, is that Silas?
20:35Yes, good to you.
20:36Hi there, Silas.
20:37My name is Nick Stapleton.
20:39I work for the BBC on a programme called Scam Interceptors.
20:44We monitor the activity of Scam Call Centres, and we can see some of the numbers that they're
20:49calling, and Silas, I just wanted to tell you that that person who you were just speaking
20:53to is nothing to do with the police or anything like that.
20:57He's just a scammer.
20:58Yes, I knew that.
21:00I knew that.
21:01Once he said to me, can you transfer the money, £3,000, from the saving account to current
21:08account?
21:08I said, why should I do that?
21:11My brain said, they look like scammers.
21:14Yeah, you're quite right.
21:15I've been swung with you guys on the TV.
21:18Yes.
21:19You've seen our show?
21:20Yes.
21:20100%.
21:21I'm very glad to hear it, Silas.
21:26I'm very glad that you managed to spot it when you did, Silas.
21:34I'm inclined to agree with you, Silas, I have to say.
21:38Have you given those guys any of your personal information?
21:41Yes.
21:42So, I would call your bank and speak to the fraud department, and just tell them this
21:46has happened, just so that you're super safe, OK?
21:47OK, then.
21:50Silas, we've got a couple of people on the ground in London who are BBC journalists.
21:54They're called Harriet and Mia.
21:55They can come and have a chat with you if you're interested.
21:57Yes, I'm interested.
21:59All right, mate.
21:59OK.
22:00Well done for spotting the scam.
22:01Good work.
22:01All right, then.
22:02Bye.
22:03Bye-bye.
22:04Good work, Silas.
22:05But also good that we've kind of got a level of notoriety now that people have seen the
22:08show, and they know who we are when we call.
22:10And it also means that people like Silas know what is a scam and what is not.
22:14That's why we're here.
22:15We give Silas time to contact his bank, and now that we have his address, we can send
22:21the ground team to offer him some support after his long and stressful scam call.
22:27Hello, both.
22:28Hello.
22:29We've got a job for you.
22:30Hi.
22:30We've just been on the phone with a man called Silas, and he was close there to going for
22:38a scam, basically pretending that people's national insurance numbers have been compromised
22:43by criminals.
22:43And as soon as these scammers proposed the idea of sending money, thankfully this man,
22:49Silas, had seen the show, and he's calling them out.
22:52So I've had a chat with him.
22:54He knows it was a scam, but he's keen for a visit from you guys.
22:56OK.
22:57Great.
22:57No problem.
22:58We'll head there.
22:59All right.
22:59Thanks, mate.
23:00Good luck.
23:01Harriot and Mia only have a short journey to south-east London to check that Silas has
23:08all possible precautions in place.
23:11Impersonating the National Crime Agency, I mean, that's going to scare you, isn't it?
23:16Hopefully we can give him a bit of reassurance, because even though he figured out that this
23:19was a scam, he's probably still quite shaken up, because he was obviously initially taken
23:23in by it.
23:24Yeah.
23:25The ground team soon arrive at Silas' home.
23:29Hi.
23:30Hi.
23:30I'm Mia.
23:31This is Harriot.
23:32Hi.
23:33Nice to meet you.
23:34Welcome here.
23:34Yeah.
23:36Silas lives here with his wife and children.
23:40So, to tell us what happened.
23:42I sent this call this morning, yeah?
23:45He said to me, someone was using your bank account in Colombia.
23:50They said, and they're going to give you a new A9 number.
23:52And what were you kind of sort of feeling at that point?
23:56I was, I was confused, to be honest.
24:00I said, what are you talking about?
24:02I don't know.
24:03Were you scared?
24:04Yes, I was.
24:06Mm.
24:07Involving police, scandal, Colombia.
24:13When we got them, I said, what's going on?
24:16How quickly did you sort of cotton on to know that these people weren't genuine?
24:21When they told me, do a transfer for $3,000 from kids' account to current account, that's
24:29my life saving.
24:30I'm saving for the kids.
24:32That's why my brain goes, mm-mm, this is, there's something dodgy.
24:38There's something dodgy here.
24:39I said, no, don't think I've just came from Africa, like, two days ago.
24:46I've been here for long.
24:48I don't know how the system works.
24:49Yeah, lots of red flags kind of just built up, didn't they?
24:53I said, are you scabbers?
24:55I'm asking you.
24:57I said, you are the fraudest.
25:00You are safe.
25:03Then he said to me, we are coming to your address to arrest you.
25:07I said, okay, all right, then, come, come and arrest me.
25:10You called their bluff?
25:11Yes.
25:12So, after that, you guys, you called me.
25:15How relieved were you when you got the call from Nick?
25:18Very.
25:19Then straight away, I called my bank.
25:21The bank said to me, nothing going wrong on your account.
25:24I said, that's good.
25:26I said, we are keeping an eye on your account.
25:29That's it.
25:29So, they're going to monitor it, so that's good.
25:31Oh, yeah.
25:31How does it feel that you didn't fall for their scam?
25:36I feel happy.
25:37Very, very happy.
25:38Before, I was, like, someone who doesn't know anything.
25:42By now, the money's gone.
25:43Totally gone.
25:44Did they try and call you back?
25:46Yes.
25:47They think I'm stupid.
25:48I'm not.
25:49I broke them, and I deleted the number.
25:51Yeah, good.
25:52Now Silas has calmed down after his ordeal with the scammers,
25:57he's keen to catch up with Nick in the hub.
26:01Silas, very nice to put a face to the name.
26:03You saved my day, you know.
26:04I'm so happy that we were able to talk when we did,
26:06but to be honest, you saved yourself, Silas.
26:07You knew what was going on.
26:09How are you feeling now?
26:11Um, I'm sitting down because the first, when you called me,
26:14I was shaking, and I was getting scared.
26:17But now, everything's fine.
26:19I'm not surprised.
26:19It's such a scary scam, isn't it?
26:21Yeah, scary.
26:23Do you think, Silas, that watching our show
26:25made you a bit more ready for that scam?
26:27Definitely.
26:28I learned from you.
26:30Oh, I'm so glad to hear it, Silas.
26:32That's so good.
26:32You did a good job, you know.
26:34Thank you so much.
26:34Keep watching the show, Silas.
26:36Definitely.
26:36I can't miss it.
26:37You have a good day, mate.
26:39Okay, then.
26:40Bye-bye.
26:41Silas, what a legend.
26:43So, uh, what would you say to anybody
26:45that receives one of these calls?
26:47Hand out the phone.
26:49That's the only thing I can say to them.
26:52Hand out.
26:52Hand out.
26:54Sound advice from Silas.
26:56I feel your help.
26:57Okay, well, thanks very much.
26:58All right, then, yeah?
26:59Okay.
26:59Okay.
27:00Good to meet you.
27:01Well, we've left the leaflet with Silas
27:03about what to do if he ever receives a call like that again,
27:06and he said he's going to distribute it to all his neighbours.
27:11Nearly two hours after we tuned in to Silas's scam call,
27:14we are happy he is now safe,
27:17having lost no money to those criminals.
27:21There must be so many people out there
27:23who, from watching the show,
27:25apply that information to their real life
27:27and who we intercept without ever calling.
27:29Well done, all.
27:31We have reported the entire Srinagar scam call centre
27:35to the relevant authorities.
27:39We also contacted the National Crime Agency
27:42about the scammers impersonating it,
27:44and it told us it would never contact individuals
27:48requesting money, gift cards or bank details.
27:53If you think you have been the victim of a gift card scam,
27:56call your bank immediately.
27:58Contact the gift card company directly
28:00to see if they can stop the transaction.
28:03Report to Action Fraud,
28:05the UK's central point for reporting fraud to the police.
28:08If you're in Scotland, report directly to the police on 101.
