00:01Over the last few months, we've travelled to some of the most beautiful parts of the country
00:10and met some truly remarkable Aussie battlers.
00:20We've heard their stories.
00:23Our parents worked very hard for this house.
00:27The floods are the most surreal things you've ever dealt with.
00:33You know, the water just comes up and all of a sudden you've got nowhere to get out.
00:38Laughed with them.
00:42We haven't renovated anyone's house that is an arsehole.
00:48Cried with them.
00:51Sorry.
00:54I wouldn't know what it was like.
00:58I brought them home.
01:00Hey!
01:03Feel like I'm in the fucking empire.
01:10Oh, wow.
01:14Oh, my God.
01:17Oh, my God.
01:21Oh, my God.
01:22Week by week, our budget battler team has grown.
01:23And so hit our hearts.
01:24It's got to make me so comfortable for the rest of my life.
01:28We've done some incredible makeovers.
01:29Oh, my God.
01:30Oh, my God.
01:34Week by week, our budget battler team has grown.
01:39And so hit our hearts.
01:40It's got to make me so comfortable for the rest of my life.
01:50We've done some incredible makeovers.
01:52And made some amazing friends along the way.
02:05It's just beautiful.
02:07I love it.
02:08I'm very so lucky.
02:10God, I'd recommend you to anyone.
02:13They are genuine people.
02:18And they're caring people.
02:19I just think they're lovely.
02:26Warm hugs.
02:28That's how I feel.
02:30Very warm hugs.
02:32This is Budget Battlers.
02:38This week on Budget Battlers, we show every battler in Australia exactly what to do to make a six-figure return on a 10k investment.
02:46We're in Mervo North to support one of the kindest blokes we know and battler volunteer, Munga.
02:53And we meet his sister, Tina.
02:55I'm Tina.
02:57Tim's big sister.
02:58Big sister.
03:00When Munga was out helping others come home, he and Tina lost one of their best mates of 35 years.
03:05Richo.
03:07Richo.
03:09He's definitely an Aussie battler.
03:11Yeah, he was.
03:12He'd worked hard all his life.
03:14Yeah.
03:16Richo wasn't just Tina's best mate.
03:18He was also the father of her daughter, Danny, and her two siblings, who now face a life without their dad.
03:24He was...
03:26The best.
03:28Yeah.
03:30I feel like part of me is kind of gone.
03:34Also, like I feel like I've lost a bit of me.
03:41I just wanted to help the three children.
03:43We've always been very, very close.
03:48I love them all the same.
03:53Yeah.
03:55I don't know.
03:56He's just like the ultimate dad and role model.
03:59Yeah.
04:00If I end up being anywhere close to being what he was, I'd be real happy.
04:06This is where Richo lived.
04:08A modest home, nothing flash, always with the kids' wellbeing in mind.
04:13I think he knew that he wasn't going to be around for the long run.
04:17He bought it with the intention of living cheaply and not, you know, leaving us with a great big mortgage to pay off or anything like that.
04:26I don't know.
04:28I think he tried to make his passing as easy as possible.
04:33I was checking in and I said, what are you doing with the house?
04:39He said, we're going to sell it.
04:40And I went, mmm.
04:42I thought, you know, maybe we could change three kids' lives here and if we could make them an extra $30,000, $40,000 each, it could just change their whole life.
04:52Their dad was only 62.
04:54We needed a hand.
04:55And as a mum, when you see anyone's kid hurting, your heart knows we just have to be there.
05:02Hello.
05:03Hello, Dan.
05:04Hey guys, how are you?
05:05Hi.
05:06How are you, mate?
05:07Good.
05:08Good.
05:09How are you, Danny?
05:10Tim.
05:11How are you?
05:12Norm.
05:13How are you?
05:14Good.
05:15With Munkano and the family, it's pretty special for us to be able to go and help.
05:17When he rang through and said that this is what the deal was down here, you don't even question it.
05:21You don't think about it.
05:22You just go, right, let's go.
05:23Let's work out what we've got to get done down there and make it all happen.
05:27We couldn't get here quick enough to offer our assistance in just getting the last bit organised for you if you needed it.
05:34Because sometimes that's the hardest.
05:36Yeah, it's a bit hard because obviously it's always going to be Dad's house and Dad's stuff.
05:41And yeah, it feels weird to be throwing out Dad's stuff.
05:46I could only imagine.
05:47Munker is part of our family.
05:50So we would like to, with your blessing, pop in.
05:54Try and add as much value as we can and give you guys a bit of a head start on behalf of your Dad.
06:01We'll clean the rest out.
06:03Yeah.
06:04I think we can do amazing things really.
06:06Do you think your Dad would mind?
06:08No.
06:09I think if it was to benefit, like, the kids.
06:11Yeah.
06:12Oh, heavy.
06:13Over the moon.
06:14Yeah.
06:15Um, yeah, seeing the house sale, I think, is going to be bittersweet.
06:20Um, obviously there's a lot of memories there.
06:23Um, but also it's something that we need to do to be able to move on.
06:28I don't want you to think that there's strings attached, but I really would like to give you a cuddle if that's okay.
06:33True bugs.
06:34True bugs.
06:35True bugs.
06:36Not so old.
06:37Munker doesn't have one friend that's a dickhead.
06:41Except for not, bless him, but you know, he's a lovable one.
06:45Anyone that the Munkers love, we love.
06:48Munkers are part of our family, we're a bunch of ballers.
06:50And when someone in the family needs a hand, it doesn't matter who they are around Australia.
06:55We got them.
06:57It's sad.
06:58There's a bit.
06:59Hmm.
07:00You walk into the house and you can already feel the presence of who was there.
07:14There's still belongings and there's photos and there's a wheelchair.
07:18I can only imagine what the kids would have been like, just trying to work out what to do.
07:22Yeah.
07:23You almost feel bad for taking it away.
07:28But it is the children's wishes that that is to be done.
07:32But you can kind of feel the grief that was left behind.
07:35So out of all the rooms, this is the one that he really wanted to do because when he bought the house and he was going to do it up for the kids.
07:42Yeah.
07:43This is where he started.
07:44And then his health deteriorated and he never got pretty much much further.
07:49All right.
07:50We've got some work to do in here.
07:52It's not a bad sized toilet, to be fair.
07:55It's a good sized toilet, but it needs a dunny door though.
07:57You'd get your step count up just by walking and there'd be at least three steps to that toilet.
08:02Six return trip.
08:03Wow.
08:04This is a full strippy up this is.
08:09You love tiling.
08:10No, I don't.
08:11You do.
08:12I don't.
08:13Oh, it's a nice sized room.
08:14It is.
08:15Yeah.
08:16Second bedroom.
08:17Paint, carpet, go.
08:20Why don't you become a real specialist?
08:37If you think about those people in your small town, Richo was that guy.
08:41He loved big.
08:42He gave even bigger and he loved his children the most.
08:46Just a beautiful man.
08:47And it is an honour to be able to do this for him because I know that he very rarely
08:52asks for help.
08:53Ah, for dream number three.
08:55You'll kill me.
08:58That's a blast from the past, isn't it?
09:01Yep.
09:08This week on Budget Battlers, we're in Mirboo North.
09:12We've got just five days and a budget of $10,000 to help finish off Richo's house and get
09:17it ready to sell after he recently passed away.
09:21Every bit of value we add here means a little bit extra for his kids.
09:25A little bit more to help build their futures.
09:28That's all he wanted.
09:30We're ready for five days.
09:34Yep, only five days.
09:36Let's do this.
09:37Pause.
09:39We couldn't do it without our mates at Storage King.
09:41They've sorted us out once again with a safe spot to stash everything the family wants
09:45to keep while we crack on with the makeover.
09:48All right, here's the plan.
09:50We're getting this place market ready with a fresh new bathroom, new floors and a full
09:55style up.
09:56We'll finish off the back of the house, clean up the yard and get that old shed looking
10:00sharp so it's ready for the next family to move straight in.
10:03Here's what we're chatting.
10:05The bathroom's getting a full makeover, fancy tiles, a bath and new lighting.
10:10In the kitchen and living room, we'll freshen things up with new floors, a coat of paint
10:15and some new furniture to really make the real estate photos look flash.
10:19Out the back, we'll tidy up the yard, put in a fire pit area and sort out the shed with
10:24a new roof and some paint.
10:27The budget so far is focusing on the three big value adds.
10:30We've allocated $2,500 for flooring to tie the whole house together and make it flow.
10:35$2,700 for tiles, fixtures and fittings for the bathrooms.
10:39And $2,300 for paint.
10:41When you're renovating to sell, everyone says neutral and good news is sometimes white paint's
10:46cheaper than coloured paint.
10:47New beauty!
10:48This renovation is a little bit different because we are preparing this house for sale
10:54and so everything we do in this renovation needs to have a return on investment.
10:58Everything needs to value add.
10:59Everything needs to look good in real estate photos.
11:01So this is for a buyer, not necessarily for a person specifically.
11:09That's what I love about Mervynor.
11:13It's like a lucky dip.
11:14You put your hand in and you're not sure who you're going to get and today we've got
11:17a guy called Dave who's a real estate agent.
11:19This is why I know he's a good real estate agent.
11:26Most real estate agents rock up in Beamers and all these slash cars.
11:31They've obviously got something to hide.
11:33Dave's just good at his job.
11:34So he can just rock up in a half-stroke moped with a finisher because you know he's going
11:38to get the deal done.
11:39And if that doesn't talk for himself then what's a car going to do?
11:43He was gorgeous.
11:44When I saw him, I thought to myself, I'll take it.
11:49I don't even have a house deposit.
11:52Dave!
11:53Lachie!
11:54How are you big guy?
11:55I'm good mate.
11:56How you doing?
11:57Not too bad matey.
11:58I'm here on Budget Battle as their investment expert from Atlas Property Group and I hear
12:02you're the local real estate agent.
12:03There goes my credibility.
12:05Well I'm not going to hold that against you but mate, I am so excited to hear what you
12:08have to say about this house.
12:09Yeah.
12:10Now look, it's got the look.
12:11Yeah.
12:12Yeah.
12:13It needs a bit of a spruce.
12:14Yeah.
12:15A little bit of love.
12:16Yeah, I can see that.
12:17But it's just, it's a great cute little cottage.
12:19Yeah.
12:20Alright mate, should we head in?
12:21Let's have a look.
12:24Mate.
12:25Wow.
12:26I see so much value add opportunity here.
12:28Absolutely.
12:29What, for you, and I'm sure you're thinking the same things as me, what are the first things
12:33that come to mind for you?
12:34Yeah, look, paint.
12:35Yeah.
12:36Start with the low cost effective things.
12:38Yeah.
12:39Paint's a reflection of someone's personality.
12:41Yeah.
12:42If you just come in and it's bright and it's clean and it just looks good.
12:46So that's one of the first things I'd start with.
12:48I agree with you.
12:49I think the paint's an easy one and then the next thing I'm thinking of is flooring.
12:53Flooring.
12:54I think there's a bit of room for some flooring.
12:55I think those, maybe some of those bedrooms look a little bit bare.
12:59Kitchens and bathrooms, they can really sell a house.
13:02They're the big ticketed items.
13:03Yeah.
13:04Yeah.
13:05We've got a ton of value that we can add to that bathroom.
13:06And then I think we can make a home out of the rest of the property.
13:09Absolutely.
13:10The house is the living component and then the outdoor is the recreational retreat.
13:14Yeah.
13:15That's where you want people to build the memories, you know, around the barbecue, the
13:19little, the little fire pit, you know, that's what does it.
13:22Yeah.
13:23Let's face it, outdoor entertaining is a big thing in Australia.
13:26Yeah.
13:27You know, that's one thing that we do really well.
13:28Absolutely.
13:29Thank you so much for coming down.
13:30My pleasure.
13:31Mate, we've got to get to work.
13:32There's a lot to be done.
13:33Absolutely.
13:34You've got to push a bit of value into this, into this house.
13:35Don't let me get in your way, mate.
13:37If you're at home and you want to have a little crack at a flip of a house or if you
13:45want to add value to your own, this is the one to copy and paste it to.
13:50Because we have all the experts that are telling us what to do.
13:53Don't get me wrong.
13:54It's driving Glen the painter mad because he can't really do any flash feature walls.
13:58He's just going to do white on white on white because you know, that's what sells.
14:01But it is a really good episode to know that it's not that hard to have a crack.
14:07And if you use materials that are less than $10,000 and you re-put that house on the market,
14:12it's very hard for you to lose.
14:14Well, I'm not a financial advisor, but that's what I reckon.
14:17So I want to get solar on this place, right?
14:37So I'll go to solarquotes.com.au, put in your postcode, and then get your three quotes.
14:42I've got no cowboy policy, which is good because it means they're not going to fall off.
14:45A new solar installer, an existing building, wouldn't mind 20 kilowatts.
14:51I need finance options.
14:54As you go through the steps, they even give you an option.
14:57Top quality, a good mix of quality and price, or a good budget system.
15:01Which I like because normally they'll just give you back and you think,
15:05Oh God, you know, is it a thing?
15:07But no, they give you the option of all budgets.
15:10Contact me by phone, please.
15:13Immediately.
15:14Full is an immediately option.
15:16I've only got five days.
15:17It really works for us.
15:18Immediately.
15:19Wish there was an immediately button on norm.
15:21Might work a little bit better.
15:23That's how you do it.
15:25Three quotes.
15:27Choose your favourite and get them on.
15:30G'day Steve, how you going mate?
15:42That's all right.
15:43You've got a delivery for us from Apex.
15:45Unreal.
15:46It'll look great.
15:47I'm Heidi.
15:48I'm Roxy's sister and also grew up with Andrew and Danny.
15:56Richo, he was my stepdad.
15:58I'm from Mackay and I flew down, took the week off just to get involved.
16:02Yeah.
16:03I think this is really good.
16:04When Richo bought this house, he always wanted to fix it up.
16:07But I think he just never really ended up getting the time.
16:10This renovation that Budget Battlers is doing is going to be amazing just for the guys to have light in this situation.
16:18And it's going to be beautiful.
16:22It's going to be amazing to the kids as well for the future.
16:25Aww.
16:26I love you, darling.
16:31Measurements are all done, so it's off to Beaumont tiles.
16:35This one's actually quite big.
16:37We've got bathroom, laundry, toilet.
16:39We've got a tile.
16:40Plus, we're going to floor the whole house out in their hardwood hybrid flooring.
16:45So, we've got a big job and I need to get the right stuff.
16:50Oh!
16:51How are you, mate?
16:52What's happening?
16:53Oh, well, you know, busy cleaning, tidying up.
16:55Good to see you again.
16:56Like I was, mate.
16:57Can we help?
16:58Mate, this one, we need some tiles.
17:00Right.
17:01But this one, we want to floor the whole house out in the timber flooring.
17:03OK, right.
17:04Our hard flooring range is just there.
17:06Beautiful.
17:08This house is a bit dark.
17:10OK.
17:11We want to really brighten it up and we're trying to use paint colours to brighten it up.
17:14But I also think with the flooring, we need to go something bright, nothing too dark.
17:18OK.
17:19All right.
17:20I think I've got just the colour we can go for.
17:22Yep.
17:23OK.
17:24This is the one I'm thinking, Norm.
17:25Ava Blonde Oak Hybrid.
17:27Yep.
17:28I think it's going to really lift the space and look beautiful.
17:31Yeah, it's a nice colour.
17:32I really like that.
17:33Good to see you.
17:34Oh!
17:35Yeah.
17:36Tiles.
17:37You forgot tiles.
17:38I forgot tiles.
17:39Let's go over this one and have a look, Norm.
17:40I know.
17:41Beautiful, mate.
17:42Tile.
17:43It gives a warm tone.
17:44In the bathroom, we'll use a white gloss tile on the walls.
17:46Beautiful.
17:47And big.
17:48Yes.
17:49That's what we want.
17:50All right, yeah.
17:51So I think the combination is giving you a nice consistency across the space and then
17:54some brightness in the bathroom with a white gloss wall tile.
17:57Beautiful.
17:58Perfect.
17:59I love it.
18:00All righty.
18:01We'll lock it in.
18:02Lock it in for us, buddy.
18:03I'm wondering the fact that we're actually getting this property up ready to sell because
18:07we want these three kids to get real, real kick ahead in life.
18:12We have to come out with something that's going to go bang.
18:15So when the punner comes through to buy this house, they walk in that door and first thing
18:20is bang, floors.
18:21Walk into the bathroom, bang, tiles.
18:23Great colour selection, great palette.
18:25So that's the big one for us.
18:32Boys, I have something for you.
18:38Come down.
18:39All right.
18:40Come here.
18:41Righto.
18:42Gabby from Healthy Life has summoned all us blokes out in the backyard to do Pilates.
18:49Pilates.
18:50You love Pilates.
18:52I've never done Pilates in my life.
18:54I didn't even know what Pilates was.
18:56I can't spell it.
18:57We're going to lift up that back leg.
18:59Reach long.
19:00We're going to balance here.
19:02Look, some of the moves that we had to do in the Pilates session were probably none
19:08that I've ever done before.
19:10Walk your hands out.
19:11You can do it.
19:12Get the hands dirty into the grass.
19:14You probably should have.
19:15Things might have gone differently.
19:17Well, I'll be honest with you.
19:19I don't know whether I felt better or worse after the Pilates session.
19:24Look, we did have a couple of show offs.
19:27Who?
19:28Who do you reckon?
19:30Lee and Lortz.
19:31Lee's going downward to upward.
19:34Then we'd done the big handstand thing at the end and Lortz was just carrying on.
19:40Hey!
19:41Where is everyone?
19:43Hey, you guys, the Pilates not finished!
19:45The Bodger Battler team are in Mirboo North for our final renovation of the year.
19:53This week, it's not about creating a family home.
19:56It's about helping a family close to our hearts get their dad's house ready to sell so they
20:01can set themselves up for the future.
20:03We're here to finish what their dad started.
20:06Hi, beauties.
20:07Hi.
20:08Oh, this is beautiful.
20:09It is.
20:10It's the front door of the house.
20:11The original one.
20:12The original one.
20:13Yeah.
20:14Andrew, one of the kids, has actually reglazed the door and put all new glass all the way
20:18through it.
20:19He wanted to be a part of this, too, and he put a lot of care into it.
20:22So, quick clang up.
20:23Code of paint.
20:24Yeah.
20:25Good on you, fresh tomorrow.
20:26Hang it back on there.
20:27I think the personal element it brings is that Andrew's worked on it, and that's the
20:31door that Richo walked through all the time.
20:33So, still got that.
20:35Still got that.
20:36I suppose an emotional touch to it.
20:39White?
20:40I think it was, yeah.
20:42Yeah.
20:43We could go white again.
20:44Yeah.
20:45Let's see.
20:49Tonight, is a special episode where we can show you how to make six figures plus with
20:52a 10K investment.
20:53Josh.
20:54Thanks.
20:55Daddy.
20:56That is nice.
20:58In 1991, our mate Mel won the aria for higher selling Australian single.
21:06She beat the horses by Darrell Braithwaite.
21:08But, you should see a fluffy cushion.
21:11I don't want to over clatter it too much.
21:13much. I want a, you know, potential home buyer to come in and think, wow, yeah, I can see what we
21:17could do with this room and things like that. So we want it to look neat, nice, presentable and
21:22gorgeous, of course. I hadn't realised that I actually needed this more than you guys probably
21:31needed me. I've just loved being here so much. And just to be creative also in a different form
21:39with not acting or singing, but to be creative, doing creative stuff has been amazing.
21:46Oh, look, I wanted to come down. What Budget Battlers did for us in our house was just amazing.
22:14This is beautiful. And it's about giving back, right? So I've decided to come down to Mirboo
22:29North and help the guys out. It's really important. It's about spreading the love,
22:34the joy, the happiness, the kindness. That's why I'm here today.
22:44I've already done the house for Luana and it was just a great surprise. And she pops through
22:51the front door. That's the thing with the Budget Battler family. We go and do someone's house
22:57and then either that person comes to the next one or they come to one further down the track
23:02and that's how the whole train's been built.
23:05What are you doing here? Come to help out. Got my boots.
23:08No way!
23:10I mean, it was like a family reunion, really, because the bonds were so tight from our show
23:17to today. So it was great.
23:20Oh, babe!
23:22I'll tell you what, you've come at a bloody good time.
23:24What can I do?
23:25I love her.
23:26Yeah, she's an absolute ripper.
23:27Well, it wasn't easy for her to get here. She's from Brisbane.
23:29The fact that she cared enough for us to rock her, like, you can't fake that. She's a legend.
23:35She's a legend.
23:36She is a legend.
23:37Yeah.
23:38Oh, no. Straight into it.
23:39Someone.
23:42I love you.
23:49Adding sand to a backyard is a really cheap and easy way to freshen it up and keep it neutral
23:54for a resale.
23:59You've been wanting to do this all season, haven't you?
24:03All season.
24:03Can you put some boobs on me?
24:07That's nice.
24:07Oh, there you go.
24:08I'm waiting here to help.
24:09Yeah, then.
24:10Awesome.
24:11They look like my real ones.
24:19Oh!
24:20You okay, Lee?
24:21Oh, Gab, I don't know if it was your Pilates this morning or I'm a bit stiff because I didn't
24:25take my medication.
24:26Lee, I don't think it would have been the Pilates.
24:28I feel like it would have been your medication.
24:30Ah.
24:30But do you know what?
24:32Sarah's come today and she's our pharmacist at Healthy Life.
24:35G'day, Sarah.
24:35So she might have some good tips for you on how to remember to take your medication.
24:39Oh, right.
24:40Yeah.
24:40That would be awesome.
24:41A bit of pain there.
24:42Yeah.
24:43It is.
24:43It's just something I've got to deal with every day.
24:46Yep.
24:46So I've got some tips for you.
24:48Things like your work boots that you put on every day or when you brush your teeth.
24:52Take your medicines at the same time.
24:53That's a good idea.
24:54That way you can't forget.
24:56Yeah.
24:56And maybe just keep up the Pilates as well.
24:58Really, really good for your joints and mobility.
25:00So with all of that, you'll be in top shape in no time.
25:03Oh, that's great.
25:04Thanks.
25:05I'll do that.
25:06Awesome.
25:06Ah, Lee, can you take this?
25:07I'm struggling.
25:08Thanks, Gab.
25:09I do need it, actually.
25:10All right.
25:11See ya.
25:12One thing we've noticed this week is life is short.
25:17And it's houses and situations and families like these that make you realise that no one
25:22knows how much longer that they've got left.
25:26There's a definite theme that's going around the site this week, and that is fun connection
25:31and just have a good time.
25:34Because at the end of the day, we're just painting a couple of walls.
25:36There's one thing we will never get back, and that is hanging out with your mates and time.
25:47So I think that's the theme of the week, just remembering them.
25:49The Budget Battler team are in Mirboo North.
26:00I do want to set you up with someone in Mirboo this week.
26:03Well, I wouldn't get on Tinder if I was down here, because it's too cold.
26:06Have you been on Tinder?
26:07No.
26:08Oh, I did once.
26:08Did you get any bites?
26:10Nah.
26:11I was in Bircham.
26:12You're related to everyone in Bircham.
26:14You're actually right.
26:15That's why I didn't get any bites.
26:16Why would you go on Tinder way off all your family lives?
26:19I thought someone might have been travelling through.
26:21God.
26:22Well, we'll do it.
26:23Anyway, I just think that everyone I've met in Mirboo is beautiful.
26:28And normally we must meet the love of his low leg.
26:30I just, I'm on the prowl.
26:46Origin have once again jumped on board for this great cause.
26:49They're here to electrify the whole house.
26:52With the cost of living these days, that sure makes a big difference come sale time.
26:57G'day Norm.
26:57G'day Darren.
26:58How are you?
26:58Yeah, good mate.
26:59Very good.
27:00What's happening?
27:01Back at it again, mate.
27:02Back at it again.
27:03The last one.
27:04So give us a rundown of what you guys are doing on this one.
27:07When we came in on site, we had a bit of a look at the roof and we could see that when
27:11we wanted to install solar, it wasn't perfect.
27:13But the guys at Res Inc, really creative.
27:15They've gone out on the shed and they've put solar on there.
27:18So 6.6 kilowatts of longy panels on the roof and as well as backed up by a SunGrow battery.
27:23And that's amazing because you've got the sun in the day generating plenty of power,
27:27store it in the battery and you can use it later on in the evening when you need the power.
27:31So Darren, this is a massive value add to the house.
27:34This house is going up for sale and we're trying to make as much money as we can for these kids.
27:39Yep.
27:39So it's going to add a huge amount to the resale of this house.
27:43It's one of the things that people look for in a house.
27:45Like if you know that this house already has solar and it's got batteries, that's got to
27:50make it more attractive to punters.
27:52I think about yourself, Norm.
27:53If you knew that you could buy a house with really low bills, what do you think about
27:57paying a little bit more for that knowing that you've got ongoing low bills?
27:59Yeah, I would pay a little bit extra.
28:01Yeah, exactly.
28:02Like why wouldn't you?
28:02I mean this is what Australians are looking for.
28:04Lower cost going in, protective.
28:05So they can spend their money on things like holidays, the other things that they really
28:09want to spend their money on.
28:10Oh, I'm liking this.
28:12Rock on origin, eh?
28:13Be in the tube.
28:15Love your work, mate.
28:15See you, mate.
28:16Good on you.
28:16Bye.
28:17Keep up the good work.
28:19Sounds good, mate.
28:20We've got three more to go.
28:23What I love most about doing Renaults on the cheap are the little tricks and hacks that
28:28make everything look top-notch without blowing the budget.
28:31Even those little frame things that you see in the hallway.
28:35If you've got some MDF, a measuring tape, a drop saw and a guy called Lee, you too can
28:42do Winscottings.
28:43Wayne Scotting.
28:44Wayne Scottings.
28:45Winscottings.
28:46Why you would not just call them frames on a wall?
28:49I don't know.
28:50Because...
28:50But some person decided to give them a fancy flash name.
28:54Anyway, Winscottings.
28:55Wayne Scottings.
28:56Wayne Scottings.
28:57Yeah.
29:02Why?
29:03Where's your Scottings?
29:04Anyway, it turns out they're in the hallway.
29:10This week has really brought everyone together.
29:13And it's a real reminder how kind people can be.
29:15So it's time to bring in humankind to see who's taking out the kindest person on Sight Award.
29:21Beautiful friends and family of the Budget Battler community.
29:23You would have noticed that there was these glorious creatures in amongst us called humankind.
29:28And they have a mission in which I think embodies all of us here on Sight.
29:34And that is that they love, appreciate and value kindness.
29:38From the bottom of our hearts, I just want to say thank you for joining us this year.
29:42And thank you for reminding us what humanity is all about.
29:46We hear it for human.
29:50Jess, honestly, it's been our privilege to be part of what you and Norm have started.
29:54You're really restoring faith in the kindness of humanity by, you know, just helping our Aussie
29:59battlers around the country.
30:00And to be part of that has been completely inspiring.
30:03As per usual, we've been on a little secret mission to try and find someone, the kindest
30:08person here on the Budget Battler's side.
30:10That's been quite difficult, to be honest.
30:12In fact, it's always difficult for us.
30:15And so, we've decided that on this one, our final time, that we are going to give the honour
30:23of giving $5,000 away to the kindest person on set, which has got to be you, Jess.
30:31No.
30:33So, you get to decide.
30:35I get to decide.
30:36Oh, good.
30:36You get to decide.
30:37Hang on, wait a minute.
30:38Let me get some clarity around this.
30:40Hang on.
30:40Yeah, I know.
30:40She's giving it to Jess to decide who's the kindest person.
30:44I know.
30:45We thought we were going to the pub.
30:46Yeah.
30:48I thought I'd won it.
30:50So did all of us.
30:51Did everyone get that vibe?
30:52Everyone had the vibe that you won it.
30:54Yeah.
30:54And we all sort of were cheering and happy, but I could hear a few, this is bullshit going
31:00on in the pub.
31:00Well, I thought that, yeah, I was like, what are you guys doing?
31:02This looks incredibly ringed.
31:04Like, I was just like, well, I was grateful.
31:06I would take it.
31:07But, I mean, guys hate to offend him.
31:09But, so you get to decide.
31:12This one, our final one.
31:15There's one person that I think is just so incredibly kind.
31:22And she is here purely just because she wants to make sure that her family is okay.
31:30And there's another woman standing next to her that is there for the exact same thing.
31:34And both of them never expect anything back.
31:36From myself personally and everyone here, you two are some of the most selfless people I've ever met.
31:54Hell yeah, you are.
31:55Yes.
31:56Yeah.
31:57Yeah.
31:58Congratulations.
31:59Thanks, Jess.
32:00Thanks, Jess.
32:01This is beautiful.
32:02You're beautiful.
32:05All I wanted to do was help the kids.
32:09I love them all the same.
32:13I think Mum deserves it, though.
32:18She's always been the rock of the family and reaches out to everyone.
32:23You, too, are the epitome of what humankind represents.
32:27You've come down and worked tirelessly for something you're not really even going to benefit from.
32:32So, it's our honour to give you this award today.
32:36And we're so glad that Jess chose you guys.
32:38Yeah.
32:39Yeah.
32:40He, too.
32:41Almost went to Norm.
32:42Thank you, Megan.
32:48Well done, ladies.
32:49Look at that.
33:08Okay.
33:09We on schedule?
33:10I have got your schedule here.
33:11You have.
33:12We are.
33:13We're on schedule.
33:14Okay.
33:15Friday is finish off everything that needs to be done inside.
33:17Mm-hmm.
33:18Mm-hmm.
33:19Shower screen.
33:20Mm-hmm.
33:21Freestanding bath.
33:22Mm-hmm.
33:23Cut down or refresh the vanity.
33:24Mm-hmm.
33:25Base wards to be painted.
33:27Done.
33:28Done.
33:29Done.
33:30So, are we on track or not on track?
33:31Yeah.
33:32We've got a grout and then shower screen.
33:35Fit the bath in.
33:36Fit the vanity.
33:37Fit the vanity in.
33:38How long?
33:39Bathroom's done.
33:40I find that if you go anywhere with a clipboard, people think that it's time to, you know,
33:45be on schedule.
33:46So, I would recommend that if you are on a work site or just walking around the house
33:52with your family, get a clipboard and just see how they treat you differently.
33:56Okay.
33:57And I just want to ask, in all honesty, if you were to give Norm a score out of 10 this
34:02build, what would you give him?
34:04Actually, he's done a bit, this one.
34:07Oh, God.
34:08Oh, and it hurts me to say it.
34:11Once again, mate, you're just here.
34:14I know.
34:15I'm very proud of us all.
34:17All come down to a schedule.
34:19And I think I'll work to the schedule pretty well.
34:22You guys have done an entire house in, like, we're up to day four.
34:25Yeah.
34:26Like, completely redone a house.
34:28And life's short, you know, we're here because a mate of ours, three friends, lost his life.
34:35And this is what he started.
34:36Yeah.
34:37And you just never know how long you've got left.
34:39And I know that this week I've just been a bit exhausted more because of the emotion
34:44of just loving you blokes, having a good time with each other.
34:48Yeah.
34:49And just, good on you for being here.
34:51Don't get emotional.
34:52You don't want us.
34:53I don't want to know.
34:54Like, I'm just even thinking about it.
34:55No, no, don't.
34:56I know.
34:57You all right?
34:58You all right?
34:59You all right?
35:00I just love you.
35:01Stop it.
35:02Love you, mate.
35:03Don't.
35:04No, no.
35:05Right, get out of here.
35:06We don't want cries in here.
35:07You go too, Lee.
35:08Please.
35:09Go.
35:10Go.
35:11You're doing a real good job, you boys.
35:12No, no, you are too.
35:13I just want to say how proud I am of her.
35:19Wasn't going to get...
35:20No I'm not. The effort that she's put into this whole show is, it's just non-stop.
35:30Like you guys see what we do when we rock up to a house, but no one sees, no one sees
35:39the amount of work that she does behind the scenes all the time, we're just...
35:44It's so nice.
35:46It's really nice. Do you want to make out?
35:51Nah.
35:52I can't believe we have it in a moment.
35:58Welcome back backers. Tonight is a special episode where we can show you how to make
36:02six figures plus with a 10k investment. It's our final day here in Mervy North.
36:07Thanks storage king for helping us get everything back safe.
36:10That's why you're the king.
36:11And the team along with this incredible community have been working around the clock
36:15to get the place ready. Five days, 10 grand and a team of hard working volunteers backed
36:22by generous donations from people and businesses who just wanted to help. Proof that when good
36:27people come together, amazing things can happen.
36:31It's just a reminder that good exists. And I feel like that I have benefited more than any
36:38homeowner or anyone in the world. I'm just the luckiest person in the world. I'm bloody broke.
36:44But I feel like I'm pretty rich when it comes to me so I'll say thank you for reminding me what life's about.
36:51In my wildest dreams, I never thought this would come off.
37:02It could just change their whole life if we could make them an extra $30,000, $40,000 each.
37:08We just wanted to say thank you so much for inviting us into your life. We know sometimes when things are tough,
37:28inviting strangers into your world is incredibly scary. And we hope that what you're about to see
37:35is a representation of a whole bunch of people coming together. Not because we had a job to do,
37:41but because they heard a story about three kids that needed a hand.
37:47And it is our absolute honor to step in, to finish off what your dad wanted us to do.
37:55We felt like everything that we did this week was on behalf of him, didn't we?
38:00100%. 100%.
38:02And if he was with us today, I think he'd say, I'm bloody proud of the three of you.
38:09And seeing the way that Andrew, the way that you look after your sisters, you're a beautiful man.
38:15And you two are beautiful girls.
38:18And of course you are, because you're part of the Munker family.
38:22And I haven't met a bad Munker yet.
38:24There's one.
38:26So on behalf of the entire Budget Battler team that made these projects happen,
38:32would you mind if we showed you through the home that hopefully reflected your dad's vision
38:38of what he wanted to do all those years ago?
38:40Would you like to join us and have a look?
38:42Yeah.
38:43Thank God, because that would have been awkward.
38:45Let's have a look.
38:48Come on.
38:50Andrew, when we got this floor last night, you have done such an incredible job
38:53putting the windows in as a glazier.
38:55Let's go have a look inside.
38:57Oh my God.
38:58Wow.
38:59Wow.
39:00I can't believe how bright it is in here.
39:01Yeah, it is.
39:02I didn't know the room got this bright.
39:03Yeah.
39:04Yeah.
39:05I can't believe how bright it is in here.
39:06Yeah, it is.
39:07I didn't know the room got this bright.
39:08Yeah.
39:09I can't believe how bright it is in here.
39:10I didn't know the room got this bright.
39:11Yeah.
39:12It's amazing.
39:31I think the living room, like it just looks bigger and brighter and just small life to
39:48it.
39:49Yeah.
39:50Yeah.
39:51Huge difference.
39:52Yeah.
39:53They reckon kitchens sell houses and according to Lachlan Vidler, they absolutely do.
40:00Not a huge amount has been done here, but there's a significant change.
40:11Oh.
40:12Glenn painted the bench top.
40:13We did the flooring and it's incredible the difference that just doing those two things
40:17can make.
40:18The team from Healthy Life wanted to stock his up with a bit of healthy food, some hemp
40:36seeds, some Canbo's King Street, whatever those things are.
40:40Do you mind if I ask, when you do sell the house, what's your future plans with it?
40:45I'd like to purchase my own house, personally.
40:49Yeah, I think me and my partner want to get a house of our own.
40:53Yeah.
40:54Me and my partner would like to get a house as well.
40:56I love that.
40:57Yeah.
40:58One house equals three.
40:59Yeah.
41:00That's a budget battle away.
41:01Yeah.
41:02I love this.
41:03Okay.
41:04Well, let's keep looking through because I think that the next rooms are really going
41:07to set you up for at least, you know, I think if you do more than 20%, you don't have
41:10to pay mortgage lenders insurance or something.
41:12I don't know, I'm not a financial thing, but.
41:19We're in Mervu North for our final renovation and this one means a lot.
41:23Oh my God.
41:24Wow.
41:25Wow.
41:26It's amazing.
41:29It's been an absolute honour being able to finish it for Richo and we're only halfway
41:34through having a look.
41:37Wow.
41:38Oh, the bed.
41:39Look at it.
41:40Looks bigger than you too.
41:41I know.
41:42That looks great.
41:43Yeah, that does.
41:44Are they the same bedside tables?
41:59Yes.
42:00Oh, they look really good.
42:01You see it all the time online.
42:03People go, okay, we're going to recycle furniture.
42:05So they just do the whole thing.
42:06But if you do it in little sections, I think it actually looks even cuter.
42:10Yeah.
42:11And it's less work.
42:12Righto.
42:13Come around here and just stick your head in here and see what you reckon.
42:17Oh.
42:18Oh, well.
42:20Well, ain't it good.
42:23Well.
42:24It's only a little bit different.
42:26There's not a major, major change.
42:28Well, there's tiles on the wall.
42:31These are the Beaumont Max range tiles and they are absolutely stunning.
42:36You're also non-slip.
42:37So if you do want to have a little wash in here, feel free to dance at the same time and
42:42you know you're not going to hurt your hips.
42:44Well, you got the bath from Benson's and they were great.
42:49They donated so much stuff.
42:51I know that you're selling the joint, but you've got to at least have one wash in here.
42:54It's so nice.
42:55I reckon I want to have a bath.
42:56I don't have a bath.
42:57I don't have a bath.
42:58Lovely.
42:59You light a candle.
43:00Yeah.
43:01Put some music on.
43:02There's a heat lamp.
43:03Ain't it good?
43:04Ooh.
43:05Ain't it good?
43:06Ooh.
43:07Ain't it good?
43:08Ooh.
43:09You're not going to believe it.
43:12Something really exciting has happened.
43:14We put a door on the toilet.
43:16Oh, wow.
43:17I might just give it a go.
43:19Yeah.
43:20Do you need to give you some running water sounds?
43:22How is it feeling there with all the privacy?
43:26I'm going to test the lock.
43:27Okay.
43:28Do you want me to try and get in?
43:29Go.
43:30Oh.
43:31Sorry.
43:32That was life.
43:33Kind of a lot to take in.
43:38Honestly, like I'm kind of speechless and I don't know what to say.
43:56Yeah, it's a beautiful home and it's even better now.
43:59Yeah.
44:00It's all functional.
44:01Yeah.
44:02Functional for a family to move into now.
44:03So, yeah.
44:10Wow.
44:15How cool does it look?
44:16It looks awesome.
44:17Do you love it?
44:18Yeah.
44:19Yeah.
44:20Yeah.
44:21Yeah.
44:22Yeah.
44:23We're so lucky because Apex Steel came to the party and they donated the whole shed refurb.
44:27Oh.
44:28Yeah.
44:29And a great mate of Lee's, Nick Shaw and his main man Floater came around and they re-roofed and re-cluttered the whole shed.
44:36And it just looks absolutely fantastic.
44:38Yeah.
44:39It's brand new.
44:40It does.
44:41Yeah.
44:42It's a brand new shed.
44:44Let's meet up our ourselves.
44:45Yeah.
44:46Dad would love it.
44:47Yeah.
44:48Dad would love it.
44:49Yeah.
44:50Dad would probably be with bed out here.
44:51Yeah, yeah.
44:52Yeah, probably.
44:53Yeah.
44:54Yeah.
44:55Yeah.
44:56So, this is his happy place, right?
44:57Yeah.
44:58Yeah.
44:59I kind of wish he was here so he could enjoy it.
45:01Me too.
45:02Yeah.
45:03Yeah.
45:04He'd be so proud of everyone.
45:05Yeah, it's great.
45:07So shocked how everyone's helped and this has happened at all.
45:11It's really, yeah, very grateful.
45:13Yeah.
45:14I know this just looks like a bit of sand, but I'm that excited.
45:19Fire pit.
45:20The other value add that I think is going to give you a really distinct advantage when you put this to market is Origin are family friends of ours.
45:29If you have a look up there, there's some solar panels.
45:32They also installed a battery, which means that during the day it's going to recharge and at night it's going to be able to use the power that it's been stored.
45:43They believe the gift that keeps on giving is one that's going to reduce your power bill significantly.
45:48Dad, I think, would be very, very shocked and amazed that you guys came and helped us and what you've been able to do.
45:56Yeah.
45:56Yeah.
45:57I think you'd be blown away with the amount of work that's happened in such a short time.
46:02Yeah.
46:02Yeah.
46:04This is going to allow us to do what we want to do with our lives and I think that's what he wanted ultimately.
46:11Yeah.
46:14Biggest gift.
46:15Yeah.
46:15With a budget of less than $10,000, it just proves that with some help from your mates and some creative ideas, you don't have to spend a fortune to have nice things and be reminded that you loved.
46:28Local real estate agent David Tree is back.
46:30Let's see if our 10 grand reno has added any value to the place.
46:33What do you think?
46:34Have I got the right house and the right address?
46:40Mate, it's pretty insane, the transformation, hey?
46:44Mate, budget battlers.
46:45Is there no end to your creativity?
46:49Unbelievable.
46:51Seriously, it's so jaw-dropping.
46:53It is.
46:54It is not the same house.
46:55Full credit to you and the team.
46:58Do you like the new flooring?
47:00Yeah.
47:02Really transforms the house, lightens it up.
47:05Everything that you've done has just made it super appealing to the buyer.
47:12All right, David, when you first walked through the house with me a few days ago, I think the number that we were talking about in terms of value for the house was in that sort of mid-300s range, right?
47:22Yep.
47:23And then now, you've seen the works.
47:26What's your feeling on what this house would now be worth?
47:30It's got to be around a mid-four.
47:32A mid-four?
47:33$100,000 worth of value created in the last five days.
47:36I reckon, absolutely.
47:37With what you've done and the stamp that you've put on it, because it's move-in ready.
47:41Yep.
47:42You know, and that's what people want.
47:43Not everybody wants to renovate.
47:45You're giving it to someone on a plate to say, here it is, move in, relax and enjoy.
47:50Yep.
47:50It's full credit to you guys, you know?
47:53It's not always, yeah, you've just done an amazing job.
47:57And I think everything you've done will contribute to hopefully getting a successful sale for the kids.
48:03Let's check out the final cash spend.
48:09We added sand for the outside areas and firepits.
48:12Only $450.
48:14$1,100 for timber to line the back of the house.
48:17And $500 for styling.
48:19But seeing a real estate agent in a gorgeous pink shirt on a motorbike happy?
48:23Priceless.
48:24Total cash spend, $9,550.
48:28But as always, we have some incredible donations, including trades donating their time and some
48:32beautiful sponsors.
48:34My best budget battler bargain?
48:36The sand.
48:37For under $500, we covered that whole backyard and it looks brand new.
48:40How good's living?
48:42My best budget battler bargain has to be the hallway.
48:45Grab a bit of MDF.
48:46Cut it to size, throw on some paint and boom, you've got yourself a grand entrance.
48:52And I'm just so grateful for all you guys because as a family unit, we had no idea what to do.
49:07And we really couldn't have done what you guys have done.
