00:00Having suffered a mass exodus of Sabah leaders after the 2022 general election,

00:07Bersatu's fortunes in the state worsened as all of its 33 candidates in the state polls were defeated.

00:14This is a far cry from the 11 seats it won in the 2020 state election,

00:20and passes historic breakthrough by winning the Karambunai seat would undoubtedly add insult to injury for Bersatu.

00:26Both parties contested under the Perikatan Nasional banner.

00:32Sabah PN chief Ronald Kiandi was one of the big names fielded by Bersatu,

00:37but he was defeated by Gabongan Rakyat Sabah's James Ratip who was elected to a fourth term as Suguid Assemblyman.

00:45GRS chairman Haji J. Noor had led a mass exit of Sabah Bersatu leaders in December 2022,

00:52following the 15th general election, as they backed the unity government,

00:57leaving their former party with zero representatives in the then-state assembly.

01:02Bersatu's poor performance would naturally add to party president Muhyiddin Yassin's concerns,

01:08with the former prime minister battling discontent within the party,

01:12as well as calls for him to step down ahead of the 16th general election.

01:16The calls for him to relinquish the Bersatu presidency to his deputy,

01:22opposition leader Hamzat Zainuddin,

01:24are expected to grow with the Sabah election results.
