00:00Bill Maher is joining CNN's Friday night lineup.
00:04The host of HBO's weekly late-night series, Real Time with Bill Maher,
00:07is bringing his overtime segments to the cable news channel beginning Friday, February 3rd.
00:13Overtime will air on CNN at 11.30 p.m. on Friday nights,
00:17after new episodes of Real Time debut on HBO Fridays at 10 p.m.
00:21Maher has been producing overtime segments for years.
00:24An offshoot of the HBO show, the segments feature Maher and his panel of guests
00:28continuing to discuss newsy topics.
00:31The segment previously only streamed online.
00:33With the CNN deal, it will now also get a linear basic cable home.
00:37The move is another example of Warner Brothers' discovery,
00:40looking for ways to share programming even as it continues to shave off costs.
00:44And while Maher is not a journalist, Overtime also gives CNN a foot in the door
00:48to a genre of programming that isn't quite news but isn't quite comedy,
00:52suggesting the cable news network is open to shows outside the standard news format.
